Really cool idea but is it practical? the satellites will be privately owned meaning centralised.
Also if you look at the rate we update our hardware as computer users in order to keep up with changing hash rates, imagine how hard this would be in a series of satellites, their computing power would become obsolete in 5 years of being put up.. think about how many computers and how powerful these computers are which drive crypto, they would never be able to produce this many satellites and even if one satellite was 10x more powerful than the top home computers, it's still not going to cut it.

Still though, something different and interesting, I won't get involved though :)

but its very expensive for just an idea, i will buy at 100sats not 3000.

i just researched this and they have been working hard on it for a while now with a team of 50. the first satellites go up in a few weeks and they will announce some partnerships plus more exchanges. tim draper will call cnn, nbc and it will be all over the media and blow up. this is a x10 short term and x100 long term.

So a top 20 coin instantly? perhaps, we have seen it before thats for sure.

i think spacechain is a different league, plus they are only at $370m now if all total supply will be available immediately which i dont think it is. So maybe its at $100m or $150m now.

so thats an easy x10 after tim draper announce the launch next month in press conference, the partnerships, and when it gets on more exchanges which will happen very soon according to AMA.

pretty sure there will be partnerships with jeff bezos, elon musk and richard branson since the spacechain spaceOS is open source. spacechain also got a team member who already coded apps that are being used in space stations right now.

this has been under the radar for quite a while and very few people know about it, but they have worked a lot on it for some time, and tim draper is in it. its probably all free because tim draper had such huge success with the free hotmail, the free skype. so now he thinks spaceOS must be free too and they will make money elsewhere?

And being decentralized or not does not mean much. Take a look at Ripple. It is Centralized af, and people are still going crazy about it.

And Spacechain, hmmm good luck to you. The idea is good, but not practical at the moment. You can hope to earn some good profit because it will likely be hyped, but not for the long run.

there has been at least a couple of hundred other EXACTLY similar topics like yours some of which even went as far as saying Satoshi himself is the developer of their coin.
long story short they got pumped and some fools became poorer thanks to this.

but why do all billionaires like jeff bezos, elon musk, richard branson invest in space? because they plan ahead for many years. they know space is only to become bigger. just like they found other trends and made billions. i saw an interview with jeff bezos he got congratulated on the recent amazon quarterly success. he said it was all planned already 3 years ago right now he is thinking about what will happen in the quarters in 2020. that he trained this as a habit to look around the corner and thats the reason for his success.

i dont know if there is a use for new, better satellites phones some day, or new better satellite internet, or other apps. and having a blockchain in space does surely sound like a novelty now, but who knows what is in 3 years? maybe satellites will do even more, like better navigation, control drones, aircrafts, or give something that is better than the internet now? i mean there sure will be a need for space apps, new space technology, even for the bigger missions.

also i think trump said they want to start a moonbase so this will also push space technology forward.

and thats only some of the things i come up with. i think visionaires like elon musk, richard branson already think of many more ways this can be used.

the only thing i wonder about is how are they ever going to make money if its all open source? just by printing coins like all the 99% other projects as eth?

all you have to do is consider how many raw materials actually exist in space, gold, platinum, iron ore, aluminium, paladium, helium, hydrogen, even just one asteriod could dwarf the entire supply of platinum currently present here on earth.  It is a solid business plan, the problem is getting to it and harvesting the riches space has to offer.  Tourism and the like is just an nice idea to sell to the masses the real money is in space mining and colonization, that is what they know.

Well, did they involve Tim Draper and Jeff? I dont think so. They are also not just investors but actually team members. I know its a very far fetch to say Elon Musk founded Bitcoin. He probably did not. But these rumours are in fact out there and its not that unlikely since Elon Musk did bring PAYPAL which was the first huge easy way to send money over the internet which people back then said is crazy too and nobody will ever need. And some people close to him said he is also EXTREMELY knowledgable on crypto. Tho I have no idea if the latter is true, but you can find these quotes out there.

It would make sense to me if Musk did Bitcoin kind of like a hobby/sideproject. I mean how else would he spend his time if not working on Tesla/SpaceX and so on? :D Haha but yeah, I give the chance less than 5%.

I just wanted to bring some attention on SpaceChain because it probably never will be cheaper than its now and I paid the same price for it that you would pay now if you went into it with a small amount. So its not like I am pushing some garbage. They have actually some pretty brilliant team members if you look at it.

At first I thought its crazy too but I did sign up to both asian exchanges just for it and bought more coins 2 times already. Because SpaceChain will allow people to dream, might bring new inventions that bring us all forward.

I am not sure what scenario you see that it would crash. Its not like Tim Draper and the other billionaires in it would pull out their money.

Really like to push my coins, but only if they are good and I see value for you guys too.. and usually I am right like when I pushed Tron, Verge, Raiblocks, WTC (when they were still CHEAP! I dont push overpriced garbage)... I dont know if this is a success too, nobody can predict the future. But it does check all the marks and more. This ICO seems to be a copy of Nexus which is very old (from 2015). Sending satellites into the space to secure the network.
A lot of ICO are just taking old ideas. But SpaceChain has his chance in the Crypto World.

Yes :) I believe there is 2 or 3 already who want to launch blockchain into space. However SpaceChain got a different approach and say they have 0 competition. I think its because they are focused on being the Android of space, and on dApps, and on Data Storage.

There is not enough info. No whitepaper, no medium and reddit. The website is buggy and the chinese website is also buggy. It is not very professional. I don't know if it is a scam, but it could be. But if they are a real company, they need to present it better.

when the whitepaper release i can see spacechain go to $2 or $2.50
when they announce partnerships i see it at $4-5
when spacechain launch the first satellite in summer and tim draper goes on cnn and msnbc i see it go to $15-20

i dont see any way people will ever be able to buy it this cheap again

This project have same characteristic like some other satellite project out there, almost similar form and plan probably funded by same group of people or maybe individual that want to achieve same goal

spacechain got no competition, its completely different and one of best teams in whole crypto world. spacechain is ETH of space. there will also be an open source spaceOS, space dApps and much more. huge partnerships get announced soon probably spacex, maybe nasa. you see tim draper went into the TEAM of spacechain. not just as an investor. he is in the TEAM. they really believe in it. because they know it will be amazing and change the world.

Drawing comparison straight away with Nexus may be unfair.... Nexus is not only about Cubesats, they have 3D Block Chain and TAO framework.... working relationships with Vector and SpaceX

I could not find much information in the website other than "Space" part.... Team will need to care explain about the planned features or at least a WP, in today's world WP is required to attract new money.

I highly doubt this is not real we have seen 0 news from elon and the others about this project, I am quite confident with all the big shot people involved in this project (as it claims) the website and the email subscription and fraud prevention would be much more focused on, then issuing a lousy website that is copied from nexus 2015 mostly and launch it!

there was no ico. its a nonprofit foundation like eth. a couple of billionaires funded the
team of 50 and the work they have been doing so far like for the spaceOS and the 3
satellites that launch already this year. they will lanch from china as the chinese
gov already gave them permission.

as for the total supply its at 1 billion coins, so based on the current price of $0.40 thats
400 million $ market cap. but they already said there will be staking rewards, and other rewards,
and its built on long term. so probably only like 200 or 300 million coins or less will be available...
making the real market cap about 100-150 million $ right now.

thats very cheap i think so there is a lot of room to grow, this will be valued at a few billions
in a short while. for such a project with such partners. tim draper also invested
in spacex and he knows elon musk and many other people from space industry. this will
blow up easily. i dont see any way this will fail the more i research it. if you see any risks,
or know of any other coins right now with this great potential please let me know asap.

they seem to have no billionaires and successful founders in their team. also their blog is very unfocused.
i tried to find some news about their business but they talk a lot about other stuff.

like they have a post "How To Become a Cryptocurrency Trader (Simple Tutorial)".... why is this on their website?
what does this have to do with their mission?

while for spacechain, they recently were at the spacetechsummit where lots of space CEOs were too.

nexus is valued at $320m right now, so spacechain is still cheaper despite its better team and connections,
and spacechain is a nonprofit foundation like eth. so i still would say its very different projects.

because one of the biggest factors for a companys success is not the idea. its the EXECUTION. and tim
draper knows how to get things done. he actually mentored the spacechain ceo. so they must be
very close.

They just updated their website and released the whitepaper. I am not a whitepaper expert so I hope some people can give some insight. I usually invest based on the team and execution. Because many have good ideas, few people can execute them well. I believe these people can and we are on to something here friends!

its very interesting. they have all this spaceos already developed, created these many partnerships. are investing in other space companies. yet they barely make all this info public. i think it might be because they care much more for the actual project than about collecting funds like so many other cryptos. really curious about circulating coin supply now. i think it might be even lower than we think.

and i can guarantee you its not a scam. i am very good with spotting scams..... i mean even jeff garzik talked about it in public (there is a video), the spacechain foundation tweeted to @timdraper ... they would be exposed fast if it was a scam... and they were at his space summit too , so.. :) if it was a scam they would have been escorted out lol....

the biggest risk i see is it not getting a lot of attention in the begin by media....... but since it got tim draper who is always on nbc, cnn, bloomberg... and since it got another team member who is often in the media.. this should not be an issue..... i hope....... :)

tim draper ALWAYS gets asked "whats the next big thing?" since he invested early in skype, hotmail, badu... so i can already picture him talking about spacechain.... plus as of now barely anyone knows about spacechain, so once bigger people who invest in space(billionaires even) find out about it... i can see very large amounts going into this.

the second challenge is probably finding good ways to use spaceOS and getting it used by nasa, richard branson, spacex, jeff bezos space projects... i think richard branson will start tourist flights to space this year already.. so if he uses something by spaceos that would be huge already. also its quite a novelty that suddenly everyone in the world can create apps to be used in space, like for research or just fun projects. there is still a lot to discover..

the new website came up really fast after people complained about the old, so probably the new one gets improved quick also.i wouldnt worry about it. they are all working on the project.

but already then and now you can click on team and read their bios. then research them. thats what i did. and it all checks out. that was my strategy with neo, tron, verge and raiblocks which i bought early when everyone said they are scam... and it was a huge success for me. i hope this is too.

I've been reading a lot about this project and so far everything checks out. I also went over to Allcoin and bought some SPC. A simple process overall. Jeff Garzik said in the Reddit Q and A that they hope to get on more exchanges soon but with exchanges inundated at the moment this process may take time.

As far as I can tell the launch for the first satellite is happening on February 2nd. Very interesting project.

they will have smart contracts too thru qtum and eth. so maybe they will partner with eth at some point

i also like how the spacechain satellites actually stay up 5 years. some other efficient satellites only stay up one year and that worried me a bit.

essentially, this will bring space exploration forward, and i can see many ways this will explode. like there never has been a standart
OS for space, so now everyone can basically work together and not work with ancient hardware/software anymore, or have to code
every solution on their own. students, univiersities, scientists, commercial space companies and even government space agencies
can use this to be more efficient, have more manpower available, new technologies available.....

and i will be happy to be one of the first to telnet or ftp into space and store data there, maybe use a chat app or even program some
little app to take pictures or record audio, possible one day be able to launch my own little "space drone" to fly out into space and

I vaguely recall seeing that the circulating supply was 51% of the total supply, in an AMA post.

If the launch is 2nd february what is trading now on Chinese exchanges? Who is selling the tokens and what was the original price?

The February 2nd date was from an old article. Reading the whitepaper it seems the first satellite launch is scheduled for October.

I'll check it out, but with phrases such as turn 1,000 dollars to 20 million. And guarantee to over take Bitcoin, just sounds as someone trying to get others to buy a coin that they have a high stake in.

Still a great project. I've followed it from the beginning and I'm loading up at these prices. Being on Bittrex as well is a bonus as the Chinese exchanges can be a bit glitchy.

I think you've mistaken what coin we're talking about. This is Spacechain. They have already launched 2 nodes into space and have made a ton of progress since the launch.

the circulating supply is 515,923,518 SPC. the market is open in different exchanges including bittrex and coinegg. i haven't learned this project from the start but base on its history the price from the start was 0.40USD. current price must be the cheapest so far.

I have no direct evidence, do not blame anyone. But there are so many inconsistencies. And when using big names, emotional statements, also a statement
turns out it's a scam ;D.

It's not the same. Spacechain has been active for nearly 2 years and they really are deploying their third satellite on board the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket in December.

It's definitely not a scam. Spacechain recently received a grant from the European Space Agency to develop a multi sig wallet. Jeff Garzik is the CTO. They already have a node in space. Spacechain trades on Bittrex as well as other exchanges.

So the launch will be on December 4th and will be streamed on the SpaceX website.

The Spacechain node will arrive at the ISS on December 7th.

This is a major development for blockchain, not just Spacechain.

In a recent AMA Zhee Zeng the Spacechain CEO hinted that a use case for the SPC token would be revealed. With a Spacechain blockchain node actually on the International Space Station running the Spacechain OS there are so many possibilities for Spacechain now.

The market cap on this is only around $1m!!  

Here's the thing, it would take more than the one or two satellites they have up there to make this worthwhile. Otherwise, transactions would take more than a day or two to confirm. These satellites would have to pass over your house to receive information and then they would have to pass over someone elses house on the network to transmit it to the network. I have a ham radio, an old satellite, and plenty of extra pc's. How do I talk to the ISS to see what information it has? I can't seem to find any information on this. There is already a similar project in Blockstream. If someone can tell me how I use my raspberry pi, my ham radio, and my old satellite only to send coins to someone, I will invest in this project.

Launch was successful. The Falcon 9 landed safely on the drone ship and the Spacechain node is on it's way to the Space Station.

This has taken a ton of work by the Spacechain team over the last two years. Can"t wait to see what the future holds.

that the Elon Musk prediction became true in a way already.
