Title: Funniest Bitcoin story ever!
Post by: Vinz1992 on January 29, 2018, 06:48:52 AM
Okay...so I have a funny Bitcoin story for you which I heard from a friend.

A middle-aged couple bought 1 BTC for a 1000 USD recently. They were happy beyond what can be described in words at the good deal they had got. So they got in touch with my friend to ask him about how they could sell it. He sent them the links to various medium articles and blogposts on how to buy and sell bitcoin. The couple got in touch with him again and told him that they had failed to sell the bitcoin. So my friend went and met them. They then "showed" him their bitcoin. It was a plastic coin with the Bitcoin symbol on it!

To invest in bitcoins, understand bitcoin!

These fraudsters can use these trickery to cheat, and use people's psychology of high return on BTC investment!

To invest in digital currency, we should learn about digital money first.

Blind investment is a big risk!

funniest story or crazy story is about hungry developer who bought two pizzas with 10,000 coins (back then it was little known digital currency) now you guess right it was 10,000 bitcoins. all this happened in 2010. those 10,000 coins were worth 40$ at that time. You can just imagine his feelings and thoughts when he saw 19,800$ value by the end of 2017.

Yeah! I guess that's the first time that Bitcoin was used for purchasing something. I wonder what those pizza guys are doing now and if they have any bitcoins or not! And the hungry developer! He must be feeling so shitty today.  :P

Meaning that middle-aged man is wrong in buying bitcoin, and happiness that leads to sadness, and it's a lesson for us to be more careful in purchasing crypto.

Well, in Russia there was a case when a man at the train station for the big money bought a beautiful coin with the symbols of Bitcoin. It's even discussed in the news.

hmm. there are physical bitcoins out there, I don't know if there are any plastic ones, but it is practically a simple object with bitcoin logo on it which also actually contains bitcoin with the public key and private key and everything.

is your friend sure that it was not just an ugly collectible?

Have you ever asked me if it should start with Bitcoin? I said that if you can afford to join it, it's fun to say this, everyone has to have a personal experience for themselves to get into a new life, of course, that Bitcoin will change. Life is better for the followers of Bitcoin

Well, I get your point there. But it's funny to me because so many people around me are so blinded by the prospects of making money from Bitcoin that they are jumping into it without any research at all. They could have asked someone who knew about Bitcoin before deciding to buy the plastic coin. And it's not that they aren't literate or something. They probably just bought it because they had heard about it from their friends without doing any prior research about it.

This is the reason why emphasis should be laid on learning about bitcoin and the blockchain technology before we decide on investing or engage in ways of earning some for free but what we see today is the constant propagation of ways one can grow post counts in order to enroll in a signature campaign without knowing the very basics of this technology. It's sad they got cheated but i guess they've learned about bitcoin the hard way and will be pointed in the right direction hereafter.

I haven't really paid much attention to physical coins and there are different types of them each doing something different. for example there was one guy who produced physical coins like a capsule with a shining red thing in the middle, you had to create a private key yourself, then encrypt it and send him the encrypted private key so he could etch it at the bottom of the capsule and then seal it for shipping.

Casascius  is another type of it: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Casascius_physical_bitcoins
you can also find out more about physical coins which are basically collectibles in their respective board on bitcointalk: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=217.0

I see nothing funny in this story. Elderly people find it very difficult to keep up with the changes in the modern world. They are like children. Scammers took advantage of this and tricked them. What's so funny? If their place were your parents or grandparents you laughed too ? Maybe it was all of their savings. Never laugh at someone else's grief.

I'm sorry but I'm not feeling sorry for laughing at them. The couple's not elderly first of all. They are well-versed with computers, at least they know Facebook and Snapchat. They socialize in circles where people have a lot of money and have invested in Bitcoin. My point is, that before jumping into anything at all, and especially something as complex as Bitcoin, blockchain and other cryptocurrencies, you must do your research thoroughly.

Maybe it had a QR code on it that will let you transact your bitcoin, Because yes there are physical bitcoin hovering the market place that lets us store amount of bitcoin that has a QR code so you can scan and transfer your digital bitcoin, And I don't really think that the story is funny, scammers often used uneducated people that don't have any idea about bitcoin and use it to their advantage, Even if the story is untrue it is still not funny to use your knowledge about bitcoin in taking advantage to someone that are not.

I have not seen their coin, but my friend has, and he tells me it is a collectible. The thing is, that the couple only got in touch with my friend after they "faced trouble selling the Bitcoin". They're the kind of rich, snooty couple who would've bragged about their "achievement" at some party had they managed to sell it off successfully.

Your friend is cheating on the other couple with a huge amount of money, I do not think it's a joke but it is a serious scam as he is taking advantage of those who do not have bitcoin knowledge to cheating on them. I know quite a few of these cases when investors are unaware of bitcoin and they only invest in referrals, which is very dangerous, so learn it thoroughly before making a decision.

LOL, it is funny. This is why we need to have a wide research on what we are investing to. We have an acronym saying DYOR, meaning Do Your Own Research. They should've researched first about bitcoin in order for them to not be tricked or not got dwell by their own emotions.

These kind of stories are funny to hear but, my suggestion is that. If we heard something like this or a friend is asking for help in crypto, don't lead them to a way for them to fall. Teach them the way to got up.

Maybe the private key is engraved on that coin. If not, then its a total scam. They are the victim of their own ignorance. If you want to invest on anything you must know what are you going to invest.

The funny bitcoin story, many funny bitcoins like you are just like this in scams because when you're a scam you can laugh at it instead of the problem. because when your prinoblema is still inactive and never lose your lost money. and it's also funny when you're posting and thought you'll earn it by posting just (lol).

Sadly, Laszlo himself claims that he spent all of his btc on pizzas and that he never managed to accumulate any significant holding after that. See his latest posts from 2014 in his profile: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=143;sa=showPosts;start=0

The funniest thing that happened to me is the first time I have my own local exchange wallet where in there is a buy and sell option and they have difference, I thought that there was just an error with my wallet so I kept refreshing it and when it is not yet equal I told my godfather why there is an error with my wallet and he just laugh at me.

Those "collectibles" are not really safe for trade, anyway, are they?

I mean, even if the seller can show the physical coin's address has a balance, if they are engraved with a private key, then the seller could sweep the wallet after the sale, right?  Not to mention the creator may have kept records of the private keys engraved and waiting for a balance to sweep, as well.

What am I missing?

thank you Kronos21 for making that comment. I was reading through the thread and I was horrified to see everybody saw it as a funny story.

Well let me tell to everybody who considers it funny, that I do not wish you that, but every time you transfer your crypto funds to a wrong address, you forget your PIN or account password or you are robbed because your 2FA phone was hacked, it shows the level of your foolishness or that there are the same scammers in action as the scammers who took advantage of that poor elderly couple. You don't even have the excuse of being old and uneducated in the matters related to crypto.

And then you come to this forum with your tail between your legs and beg other members for help. Well, maybe you should consider your actions as funny too, don't you agree?

Just to be very clear: I can see nothing even remotely funny in that story of those scam victims.

All those who are scorning at me and other people who found the story are completely missing the point here. Because we know that there are scammers out there, we ought to be extra careful while doing our research before investing in anything about which we know so little. Isn't it? The couple probably has a lot of money and did not care much about that 1000 USD and that's why they threw it away like that without bothering to check with the internet or someone else before their purchase.

I don't find it very funny though I agree that knowledge is important in the process of adapting and coping with new things especially when it comes to technological development.

Also, people may be rich or poor trying to be IN is just the same. I think you have judge them way to early because at some point, we brag a bit and nothing wrong with that.
People are happy that is why we act like we are braging about it.

People invest their money but they don't know what is Bitcoin. We have to spread the knowledge and let people understand what Bitcoin means.
They invested 1000$ a long time ago, it is the equivalent of 11000$ at today's price!!!

I likewise felt sad after hearing about this story because the couple must have thought that they actually bought real bitcoin, and it's there's nothing funny about people getting scammed.

I have never heard about physical coins myself and I've always wondered where did bitcoin get it's logo or physique. Some people imagine bitcoin to be physical because they're used to something tangible and can't imagine something to be of value which does not have a physical appearance - which may have been the cause why the couple got scammed.

So conclusion, educated yourself before investment  ;D ;D ;D

Well, its funny story that your friend have but this story gives us explaination that still many people outside dont know what bitcoin is.
We need to educate them if they are your friend or family because if they really invest in bitcoin they would give us benefit indirectly.

s-u-id  :D that's the only word I can tell them, why they can not know that bitcoin is intangible ,, it seems they lack knowledge about technology so they are easy to deceive and for now I can only laugh at this story  :D :D :D

It doesn't mean a funniest thing, but it gives me pride when I think of those incidents. When I was new to the cryptocurrency network I don't know much about it. Still I used to explain what I know to my friends. By those time, they used to make fun of me indicating the virtual presence and not having the physical state as that of our real money. Now they realized the value of the same.

I find this a little sad because it's slightly symbolic of what we live in today. Some people are buying bitcoin from the word of mouth, but they aren't informed enough to make a purchase. People who pumped in a lot of their savings at the 19,000 mark are currently kicking themselves because they didn't know enough about the market and weren't ready to face whatever volatility was coming their way. Small things like these are what can cause bitcoin to be hated by uninformed people; hopefully more people look into the coins they put their money in before they jump in.

there is nothing funny in this, this fraud is happening all over the world all the time, because of the lack of education of people, on the general excitement people stupidly believe scammers, without suspecting deceit.

After this story happen in all over the world because the lack of information anf education, do you think its good idea to government or merchant has group of expert which can spread education about bitcoin?
Its good idea if someone or any merchant can teach them.

OMG, it is not so funny. This is a sad story about people’s ignorance. That is why we need to share our knowledge about Bitcoin with other guys. I am glad to meet messages from newbies on this forum. It means more persons are interested in BTC and many of them are ready to learn much about it.

Perhaps the influence of bitcoin is quite large, even its value is gradually more popular with people who don't know it. An interesting and funny story.

So, the couple bought bitcoin and gets only a plastic card with a bitcoin symbol in it and they didn't get any other information related to the real value of their bitcoin, like a private key for example? They were fooled then. This isn't  funny tho, but pathetic.

Fraudsters always take advantage of our ignorance to cheat. Perhaps the couple thought that they could buy a big profit, but the biggest profit was the money seller who printed the word BTC on it. Think about it, maybe he just bought the coins printed in BTC to celebrate LOL

Hahaha, what a sad tale, they should have just made some researches online before jumping into the river. Reason I am starting a paid class next week  in shop on how to buy and sell bitcoin and other basic security features. people must first learn to go for knowledge before the reward.

You know I actually believe this story because I once had a guy tell me he found a bitcoin at the casino, I was like uhhhh? he also showed me a plastic bitcoin with no address on it lol. I kind of feel bad, I actually ended up rofling for like 30 mins before explaining to the guy that was fuck all. It was something like these https://www.amazon.com/slp/bitcoin-coins/6qqms8myr43y5h9 He 100% thought it was a real bitcoin.

There are really physical bitcoin coins or commemorative coins that is for sale out there and costs only $30. I think its made out of cheap metal and meant only for display. I dont know how much the real coins are but i kmow it exists. This story isnt funny at all and we should feel sorry for them for their lack of information. They should even checked the coin first because if it is plastic then its easy to distinguished. Its all their fault though.

Poor people, but besides joke we have to understand that it can happen with our loved one as well, therefore, knowledge transformation of Bitcoin is very much important for all to make people aware about Bitcoin and altcoins to buy, sell, and trade it on various exchanges.

Poor couple this thread was already a year ago I hope they already know how to make money from the real crypto .
It sure is funny but if this was real they lost $1,000 because of they didn't have a proper guidance and didn't bother to know what they are buying.
But I guess we all know some people who got careless because of crypto and made some funny memories.

Ok, I fail to see how it can be funny to laugh at some gullible people being scammed out of $1000. It is sad incidents like this, that are causing people to turn against Bitcoin. It also has a domino affect, because these people have friends and family and when they hear about this, they instantly label Bitcoin as a scam, without doing proper research and before you open your eyes, Bitcoin is seen as a scam by millions of people around the world.  >:(

People giving Bitcoin a bad name should be hunted down and shamed in public <by the media and social media> and they should serve some jail time for these crimes.  >:( >:( >:(

This is one of the mistakes investors must learn. Before they will invest in an investment, they must do some research first before throwing their money. Poor couple they bought a plastic coin for 1000$. I laughed a bit on it but on the other side, I felt pity on them because of what happened to them.

thats indeed funny but whats funny is that your friends have also fooled you to believe on that joke  . i think the joke is a hoax . if those couple are into bitcoin and they want to buy bitcoin , they already done thier research and knew if what it is bitcoin  plus the bitcoin that is describe on the story is also plastic , if ever there will be a physical version of bitcoin , that will not be plastic but it will be the same as what we have on our local currencies  , it should be metal or paper based material   .

I still like the story about Bitcoin, which bypassed the world already, when in 2009 the user offered his friends to buy him 2 pizzas for 10.000 Bitcoin.  I do not remember the end of this story, whether someone brought him a pizza or not, but it really was a very smart offer.
