Title: BTC China will be closed. All Bitcoin chinese exchangers will be closed.
Post by: mayax on December 17, 2013, 03:57:59 AM
China`s Central Bank reported that the institution has banned third-party payment companies from doing business with bitcoin exchanges

Well, today China banned exchangers to accept payments from clients who want to buy Bitcoin. BTC China(the biggest exchanger from China) is not accepting deposits anymore.Yes, the clients will still be able to sell in order to not create panic but it is a temporary solution until the end of January.

"For payment companies that have already done business with Bitcoin Exchanges, should end their business cooperation; withdrawals of balances should be completed before the Chinese Spring Festival (January 2014), and new payment services are not allowed."

IMO, the banks from worldwide will ban all the Bitcoin exchangers soon(in the following months). I recommend you to sell your Bitcoin now. The rate should go down fast.

Is this from a reputable source? I have concerns about reliability of the source.

The only aim of spreading such news seem as creating a dump in prices and buying cheap coins to make profit after the price is stabilized at a higher rate.

This sure sounds like the kind of thing which could cause a panic if true...

This sure sounds like the kind of thing which could cause a panic if true...

It's from China`s Central Bank. They did the announcement today.

Last week, they released other annoucement and they said that all the financial companies(banks, insurers, etc) must stop accepting any Bitcoin business(to open accounts and so on).

Today they came with same clarifications and they have banned third-party payment companies from doing business with bitcoin exchanges

"For payment companies that have already done business with Bitcoin Exchanges, should end their business cooperation; withdrawals of balances should be completed before the Chinese Spring Festival (January 2014), and new payment services are not allowed"

That means all the exchangers from China(BTC China is the biggest one) must close the business as soon as possible.

At this time, BTC China does not accept deposits anymore.

So, China banned Bitcoin for good. China transactions were more than 50% from all the Bitcoin transactions

The price will go down fast. It's already $650

Any sources that we can deem reliable?

1. What is the source? Coindesk used "Sources close to China’s Central Bank", but there is no formal announcement at all, unlike last week.
2. Even if China may ban bitcoin exchange, what do you suddenly make the conclusion that every other countries around the world will do it as well. Criticizing the gov't is illegal in China, OMG, will it be illegal as well next month in US or Germany?

I come with reliable sources:   http://forexmagnates.com/china-bans-payment-firms-from-working-with-bitcoin-exchanges/

You can find similar links all over the internet.

Also, try to deposit with BTC China. You will see that you can't do it.
Yes, THERE IS A FORMAL ANNOUNCENT:

Bitcoin is like illegal in USA as well. You need to be licensed in order to exchange and there is not licensed Bitcoin exchanger in USA

EU Central bank warned agaist Bitcoin 3 days ago; same Australia and New Zealand.
Thailand already banned bitcoin 5 months ago.
Swiss Central bank warned against Bitcoin last week too; same for France.

Coinbase will be closed and the bank account seized in the very near future; as it happened with MtGox bank accounts 6 months ago. Coinbase is not licensed.

Where exactly do you mean by "from China's Central Bank"?
If you mean PBOC, I could not find such announcement at the website http://www.pbc.gov.cn/
If you really find that announcement, why don't you share a link in the first place?

You claim BTCChina no longer accept deposits, right?
But, I just transfer 10K CNY from my bank account (BOC) an hour ago to BTCChina. Everything go smoothly.

It's interesting how it's no problem if you want to pay $1 million dollars for a digital picture or a digital music file... but if you want to buy letters in a text file you get the ban hammer...  :-\ And aren't ALL digital multimedia made up of similar letters and numbers at the core?

The decision was made today. BTC China wants to get ride of Bitcoin stock. They are doing illegal things if they are accepting deposits again.

This is the first annoucement(last week). Even so, it's clearly stated that the banks and financial companies cannot deal with Bitcoin.
BTC China was not licensed(out of law) and even they had a license, it's impossible to deal with Bitcoin because it's anonymous. You cannot do that once your licensed.

http://www.pbc.gov.cn/publish/goutongjiaoliu/524/2013/20131205153156832222251/20131205153156832222251_.html

The second announcement clarifies the whole story.

"For payment companies that have already done business with Bitcoin Exchanges, should end their business cooperation; withdrawals of balances should be completed before the Chinese Spring Festival (January 2014), and new payment services are not allowed."

They are doing illegal things if they are accepting deposits again.

So you are saying PBOC have made an announcement yet at the same time the very same PBOC are allowing you to transfer money in and out of btcchina.

Can you see the problem with your logic?

BTW if "tenpay" is taken out of the equation then it means little more than you have to pay more fees to the banks (same as Dwolla being taken out of the equation for Mt. Gox).

Now, you give us a link for the announcement published on Dec 5.
You must be kidding me.

Where is your so-called today announcement?

Yes, there are lots of "news" in English, but none in Chinese. Wow, that's interesting.

"For payment companies that have already done business with Bitcoin Exchanges, should end their business cooperation; withdrawals of balances should be completed before the Chinese Spring Festival (January 2014), and new payment services are not allowed."

Payment companies ≠ Banks.
Yes, you can no longer withdraw CNY from btcchina to tenpay, but you can deposit money to or withdraw money from bank account directly.

You buy letters are you buy letter in a ponzi scheme. Also, it's anonymous. That's all the banks are banning Bitcoin.

I am not against Bitcoin. These are the facts.

You can do whatever you want with your money, so you can even buy some digits in an "unregulated" system. :)

My post was about China.

China banned all the exchangers. You will see that all of them will close the business or they will try to cheat the banks in a way or others.

Anyway, it's not a joke. You can be executed for "Money Laundering" in China.
This it happens if you make exchanges without being licensed. :)

Because of a FUD campaign (read the article on CoinDesk for the details that came from some "unnamed source").

It does seem that "tenpay" will no longer be able to be used with BTC exchanges but direct bank deposits and withdrawals are working fine.

If the PBOC was really *banning* btcchina then how is it possible that they forgot to actually stop people from doing deposits and withdrawals?

Payment companies are not only banks;are all the financial licensed company. You can transmit money even you are not a bank. There are many categories of financial companies. The exchangers are one of them so they fall under this rule.
Anyway, the banks won't accept payments for Bitcoin exchanges anymore.

The second announcement is making the things more clearly.
Just wait for 1-2 days and you will see the Chinese announcement.

You will see the rates going down too.

The China gov has banned all the financial companies to deal with Bitcoin is a fact already(6 days ago). The banks will close all the accounts relatated with Bitcoin exchanges (the exception will be the personal ones)

Yes, it's a major hit as I said above. the China market was huge for Bitcoin. Now,it's gone. Again, these are not rumors ! :)

Why are you spending so much time trying to convince us?  What is your game?  Given what you know to be true you have already sold all your BTC by now, right?  So now just wait until the shit hits the fan and you can buy back in later.  If China has really banned Bitcoins (OMG!!!) then you are sitting pretty and all you have to do is wait for the bottom to fall out.

You don't need to go to all this trouble if what you say is true, right?

Don't tell me it is at the bottom of the link you provide, as that is just an attachment, and it is there since Dec 5.

The first annoucement is more than enough. BTC China should be licensed but it is not.

The China gov banned ALL the financial companies to deal with Bitcoin. That includes a licensed exchanger as well.

EVEN so, the banks will close any  business account related with Bitcoin.

You give the first announcement the interpretation you like and not the real one(and many others like you). That's why the second announcement will clarify the things.

BTC China will close the business in China in less than 30 days. Mark my words.

Also, please do not use "FUD" because Bitcoin has itself value, right? So, what fear, what doubt? You should have more trust in your "investment" :)

It only applies to 3rd party payment service. No policy saids exchanges cannot use bank services. Please stop spreading FUD.

In all honesty, I wouldn't want to be the guy who banned bitcoin in china. I'm sure that guy has tons of eyes on his back just in china alone, let alone those invested heavily into it across the globe. Just saying. I have a feeling something's gonna suddenly change his mind.

BTC China will close the business in China in less than 30 days. Mark my words.
This is a pretty specific claim here.  Care to bet on that?  How much would you bet on this?

The first annoucement is more than enough. BTC China should be licensed but it is not.

The China gov banned ALL the financial companies to deal with Bitcoin. That includes a licensed exchanger as well.

EVEN so, the banks will close any  business account related with Bitcoin.

You give the first announcement the interpretation you like and not the real one(and many others like you). That's why the second announcement will clarify the things.

BTC China will close the business in China in less than 30 days. Mark my words. :)

Where is the second announcement?
I am sure you can't provide anything other than the original announcement 12 days ago, and those rumour from "secret source". Mark my words. :)

The China gov has banned all the financial companies to deal with Bitcoin is a fact already(6 days ago).

That announcement was made on 05/12, how can you end up with "6 days ago"?
Maybe all the FUD materials were prepared on 11/12?

What is an exchanger than a 3rd party service? :)

Any service who receive money in exchange for an "investment"  must be licensed.
Any service who is operating means of payments must be licensed in China. BTC China avoided this thing because a license is useless for  them. Once you have one, you cannot deal with anonymous systems like Bitcoin. :)

Also, the exchangers are dealing with Bitcoin and the banks from China are not allowed to receive payments for Bitcoin anymore.

It's a matter of time until the banks will implement the new rule.

I really don't care what you do with your money but it's funny for me how you try to convince me about some fantasies. I understand that you want to speculate with Bitcoin. It's normal to want to earn more and more.... but let's cut the ***. :)  Leave it as it is.

Why are you so shock about this? How is that different from US?

Once you have one, you cannot deal with anonymous systems like Bitcoin. :)

What about Mtgox, Bitstamp and other exchanges outside China? They ask for verification as well.

Check the BTCChina latest announcement, all customers need to do a ID verification before make any orders, and 75% of the customers have already completed the verification process.

I assume you are honestly confused rather than spreading FUD.

1) BTC is a virtual commodity, not an asset according to the China government, buying/selling commodity is trading, not an investment.
2) BTCChina is not a payment service provider. Tenpay, Alipay are.
3) Exchangers never give BTC to any bank. Exchangers are using bank services for fiat like any other merchants.

If China government want to close BTCChina, they will provide much better excuses than any one you provided here. Please stop saying something you really have no idea here. Thanks.

Let me try to summarize what OP have said:

FUD 1: OP claimed that China banned exchanges.
Truth: Bank transfer to and from exchanges are working perfectly; BTCChina and OKCoin are still doing the business happily.

FUD 2: OP claimed that China's central bank has made an announcement today.
Truth: OP cannot provide anything about it but just the Dec 5 announcement, and later claims the announcement will come out in a few days.

FUD 3: OP claimed that all Chinese Bitcoin exchanges will close their business in a month.
Truth: OP just keep saying that without any evidence. Just a friendly reminder, I am a fortune teller, and I know OP will face a disaster in a month. Sorry, can't tell you the details, but you will see it very soon.

1 and 3 are FUD, but 2 is true. It is true that third-part payment services are no longer allowed to serve BTC exchanges. There's an internal meeting without public announcement, but it has been reported in multiple serious media already.

For the third-party payment services, it is no big deal.
BTC-China started the business on Jun2011, and employed Tenpay just a few months ago.
We cannot directly withdraw our money on Bitstamp or Coindesk to Paypal or Dwolla as well.

Edit: It seems OP is no longer online, and bitcoin price is starting to bounce back. No conclusion can be drawn and no accusation is intended.

I live in America and have a Coinbase account and want to offer my two cents on the topic of all banks banning Bitcoin...

When you initiate a purchase of Bitcoin with Coinbase you are actually doing an ACH withdrawal for a specific amount. You can set up ACH withdrawals for virtually anything that you want. It could be for a donation, virtual services (such as web hosting), a purchase of Bitcoin on ebay (through Paypal) or even payment for a magazine subscription. The bank never has any dealings with Coinbase other than the deposits or withdrawals of money and never touches the Bitcoins.

I guess the United States government could be heavy handed about the purchase or ownership of Bitcoin in the future,  but I assure you if they attempt a blanket ban it simply won't work. The government would have to defend hundreds of lawsuits in the coming years if it occurs and the chances are high that they will lose some of them.

The main thing to remember is that you must pay your taxes on Bitcoin capital gains or you could be in some trouble with the IRS.

~ 2 cents ~

None of this prevents banks from arbitrarily closing accounts and refusing service to anyone involved in ACH transfers to any Bitcoin business, unless banks start getting sued under competition laws / antitrust.

I guess that banks could do something similar to that in the future if guidance (or laws) were issued by state or federal government regulators but why would they even attempt something like that at this time? There isn't any reason for banks to close accounts in America at this time because nobody in authority has said that Bitcoin is illegal.

They would if they perceive Bitcoin as a threat to the profits of the very payment systems that they have a financial conflict of interest in running, or if guidance remains so vague as to continue the chilling effect in the US. It's a reality that Bitcoin businesses have significant difficulties getting banked in the US, and there are numerous anecdotal reports of individuals being dropped by banks because of purchases relating to buying Bitcoins or even mining equipment.

These entities are going out of their way ironically to prove why we need Bitcoin in the first place!

I agree with your last sentence and also agree that bank accounts can be closed for various reasons. The problem is that as Bitcoin becomes more popular banks that ban Bitcoin dealings of any kind will have something similar to a Scarlet Letter on them. The people who want to deal with Bitcoin will have no dealings with the banks who ban them. As the numbers of people using Bitcoin in the future grows, that could hurt bank profits.

I mean realistically, it could be 5 -10 years before major online businesses start to accept Bitcoin. The transactions will almost always be of a more limited nature until wider acceptance of the coin has taken hold.

I get the impression that Bitcoin is becoming another player in the US versus China economic war that is bubbling under the surface. A lot of US institutions and organistions are talking up bitcoin and its potential future. As free market economists they see the potential for profit and revenue. On the flip side the Chinese state see it as a threat to their control and security and are trying to tie it up.

Hard to predict where the worlds relationship with BTC will develop over the coming year.

Of course bitcoin will hold its use and intrinsic value to those that understand its core value and purpose but that may not be reflected in its exchange against fiat currency.

haha, this is such a great post. op is just trying to force the price down and get everyone to sell so he can cash in cheap.

even if all banks would bann the exchange from btc to fiat money, btc still has it's place.

Thailand already banned Bitcoin 6 months ago

This is a bold faced LIE.  Quit repeating it.  It NEVER HAPPENED.  It was just a huge steaming pile of "journalism" all traced back to one blog entry which was a LIE.

If you are so convinced you are right then you would be willing to bet me on it.  Since you are not taking the bet that proves all your posts are LIES.

Assuming on that, it means that all the positive stories about Bitcoin are lies. All the news about how great Bitcoin is , are coming from forums and blogs and then they are spread in "press".

http://www.cnbc.com/id/100923551

Do you really think that China did not ban the exchangers to buy and sell Bitcoin? Say it and then we will make a bet.

BTC China could close down in the new year when there won't be anymore funding/withdrawl options left:

http://www.coindesk.com/sources-confirm-chinas-payment-processor-ban-bitcoin-price-falls/

I was really hoping China wouldn't crack down this hard on bitcoin, but the facts are the facts. The PBOC doesn't want any threats to its plan of making the Yuan the world's reserve currency.

it will crash. the banks will close the accounts for all the exchangers in the following months.

I know others will come with a lot of "words"(bla bla bla) trying to say otherwise. It's funny that they know that I am right.

Today China clarifies the situation for everybody (they already did it 8 days ago but it was necessary to be bolded)

CoinBase will be closed in the next months by having its bank accounts seized. They are working without license in USA(they are based in USA).It's incredible the naivety of people. MT Gox lost over 6 mil by doing the same thing 6 months ago.

Interestingly BTChina, Stamp and BTC-E have all rallied but Gox has been totally indifferent to the clarification.

Which is annoying because I took a long position on BTC rising on a platform that bases its price index on Gox.

I wonder how this affects BTC - EUR charts? Would this mean EUR exchanges would rise because of this or fall?

I have my own theory on both possibilities, but i'd like to hear from you guys.

I just noticed EUR prices fall almost at the same time USD prices drop.
Is this just because the market is flooded with Bitcoins and thus the prices fall?
I know BTC/EUR exchanges are very small compared to Yuan and Dollars, but still.

BTC/EUR has to adjust as well otherwise you could do arbitrage if too different from USD/EUR rates

There are plenty of HYIPs already.
It is a speculative bubble. The people wants to earn money overnight. Otherwise, they will use other e-currencies. Why wouldn't you use a system who is backed of gold? There are a few regulated payment systems which are dealing in gold. You can sell, buy, send funds in gold and you won't face any delay, any problem with your bank when you want to send or to receive funds from a such company. :)

See the funding/withdrawal options for BTC China:
In both screenshots, all the 3rd party payment companies have disappeared from Funding Options with the exception of Yeepay.

For the Withdrawal Options, only 5 options remain. all of them banks.

Both screenshots are from today. also some guy attempted to fund an BTC China account via a Merchants Bank of China account, and was met with 'transaction errors'. i.e. it was not possible to deposit funds through this bank today, whereas it was possible a couple of days ago.

If china bans Btc china, Btc price will stabilise at some lower level, which would be a strong buy for me. China will then become like Argentina where btcs trade at a premium.

Anyway, how can the RMB be a global currency if it cannot be freely transacted and converted to whatever people want? If btcs cannot be purchased with RMB, that implies that the RMB is flawed, not the other way around.

I don't see the USD, POUND, EURO, YEN or AUD doing this sort of thing. I see Thailand, Argentina and china moving in that direction because these countries have weak and controlled currencies.

Therefore, China must be weak because they are fearful.

It is not likely that Btc china will be banned because it is located in the shanghai special economic zone.

Even if china bans Btc china in shanghai, they will simply setup two new offices: one in Hong Kong and the other in Macau. Good luck banning btcs there.

Also, the fact that yeepay continues to function tells me that there is a loophole somewhere in the system that will allow RMB to be converted to btcs going forward.

If btc china is shutdown then prepare to see the shanghai economic zone wither away.

China isn't going to be able to put this genie back in the bottle. I'm reminded of the scene from Jurassic Park where the scientists act as if they've accounted for every conceivable variable and are so absolutely certain that they've taken every measure necessary to prevent Dinosaurs from escaping and breeding. Jeff Goldblum's character Ian Malcolm responds with a great little speech about how life always finds a way. Despite whatever barriers the state puts in place, people will find ways to freely trade using Bitcoins if they want to. Chinese people will hopefully find ways to work around the criminals that claim to rule them.

I think China just slapped the genie and shoved her back into the bottle. Good move on their end, bitcoin is too dangerous to them right now. The USA will probably do the same, perhaps not so severely though (only because of wall st speculation). They might just dangle it around like they are now and if they can't figure out how to control it...see ya.  Yea, I know, it doesn't matter, bitcoin will survive. But if it's not accepted by retailers and you don't see bitcoin ATM machines at gas stations, it won't take off like the FB twins and some people on here think it will. Might take years and years and an economic collapse/crisis till it has a real chance in the US. Maybe it's for the best and bitcoin needs more time to be accepted and explored. Or maybe it will be $10k USD > 1btc in a few months what do I know haha. Whatever it is, I'm hanging on to my lil bitcoins till the end (because I wouldn't know where to spend them anyways)

I am trying to gauge the effect of the recent "ban" on the liquidity of Bitcoins in China...
May be Chinese forum members can help with some queries I have:

After PBOC bans chinese from depositing funds into BTCChina via bank transfers and 3rd party payment systems,
can you actually deposit cash in their office (if they have one)?
or deposit cash directly into BTC China's bank account at a physical bank?

How easy is it for chinese to open a bank account in Macau or Hong Kong?

Well at the time of writing the price has fallen to a mere $500 USD which is half of what it was at it's peak. Honestly, even if this isn't true (which seems to be rather unlikely now), the psychological effect and fear is leading to a severe drop in the valuation in BTC. If anything, it might be a good time to buy back if one is following a long term hoarding stratagem.

The only aim of spreading such news seem as creating a dump in prices and buying cheap coins to make profit after the price is stabilized at a higher rate.

This is just one of method to find a way to get more and more.

Still no official news but tons of "news" after a day  ???

IMO, Chinese government dislike giving out firmed official statement about stances, but would rather contact all related parties and talk to them individually to get things done..

But anyway, even xinhuanet is reporting this....even its content is just moreorless like others, but this is xinhua.. http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fbig5.xinhuanet.com%2Fgate%2Fbig5%2Fnews.xinhuanet.com%2Ffortune%2F2013-12%2F18%2Fc_118603718.htm

I agree, buying/selling/spending Bitcoins can work well only in countries with high degree of freedom. The China ride was fun, but Bitcoin had to end at some point in China.

Chinese has strict control of money movement, and you can't just wire your RMB to other countries.
I guess the gov't is feared that people would buy btc in chinese exchange, send to bitstamp or btc-e, and get back USD.

In most countries where you are a free person and not a brainwashed dumbass, so basically anywhere outside of china, russia and north korea (not counting the unimportant countrys now)
it doesnt matter if they give a warning about btc, ban it or even make it illegal...you can trade, buy and sell all day in another currency and country and just cash it out via bank transfer. Now i read you cant even recieve payments in china and was asking myself...When my country decides to control me, why am i still there?

Regardless of whether or not it has been confirmed via the Chinese Government, the effect is real.

fiatleak.com is showing no bitcoin entering China at the moment (granted, it is odd hours for them).

This means that the Chinese people believe the non-official sources are as good as any official source, probably through past experience.

If it turns out that these rumors are really false, then it just goes to show you how many people were simply in it as a get-rich quick scheme. To any true believer, 500$ is extremely under-priced. This doesn't mean that all of the people selling are not true believers (people do day trade bitcoin, look at the speculation section on this forum), but that the majority of them were just in it to make some quick cash.

What ways are there left for chinese to buy cryptocoins now?

1. private sellers
2. see if there are gateways to ripple which were not banned yet.
(anyone senses if ripple will have the status of "exchange" or perhaps different status in China)
3. wait until government owned crypto exchange is founded
4. open up foreign bank accounts and buy on foreign exchanges
5. (illegaly?) accept BTC payments from abroad

any feedback appreciated!

Why would they go with ripple when Litecoin can do exactly the same thing, while supporting a truer open sourced model? Just saying. China has explicitly discussed Bitcoin as a threat to the RMB (Chinese Yuan), not about LTC. LTC could potentially be an open portal to bitcoin.

China is not an early adopter.. unless you mean that it's still early enough that any country can become an early adopter still.. I suppose that could be true... but two years ago China (the state) had virtually nothing at all to do with Bitcoin. In fact, up until just a couple months ago the Chinese government had never mentioned the word Bitcoin publicly. Not only were they not early adopters, they are still not current adopters.

unless some well-connected youth used this pullback to jump in cheaply... still there will be ways around restrictions if enough high party ranks are privately diversifying into BTC.  8)

Also agree with the view, although China can't trigger rallys via exchanges for now, suddenly 30% of global BTC trading supply turned into long term holders. This should limit downswings going forward! Also interesting that when Western people saw 500$ prices, many were worried about not having chunks of fiat deposited with exchanges. only after 1-2 days transfer time the bids came back in and more reasonable levels ensued.

This really could start a panic if misinterpreted. I think the Chinese are still learning how to adopt BTC. Chinese TV is government run and they approved the whole Bitcoin / Baidu thing publicly, which caused the surge in Chinese buyers at BTC exchanges and large increase in BTC value the last few weeks. When the PBOC stated that BTC is too volatile to be currently accepted as a currency they were more or less stating that they would consider it if it was more stable. Stability comes with volume and time. The Chinese might also be looking for a way to regulate / tax it, and it's hard for them to take a percentage of a currency without officially accepting that currency or having a stable exchange rate so that their tax related percentage values make sense.

More integration will stabilize the system plain and simple, and the fact that both Canada and USA have USD/CAD -> BTC ATM markets developing, is sure to bring some stability and trust to the table. It's just a matter of time before China readopts the coin I think.

As I have said before in another topic, Chinese has foreign exchange controls. They limit the amount of CNY anyone can exchange in or out of the country. Bitcoins seems to be able to counteract that, and China doesn't like it. I believe they want to put an end to it, or at least be able to put a name on the bitcoins going in and out via logging direct transfers from bank to exchange, and vice versa. It seems assuring that they are not currently against owning and trading bitcoins on a local/regional level.

I explain what was going on:

most chinese exchanges were allowing withdrawals on ANY zhifubao account (chinese paypal copy), meaning that money laundering was never this easy.
Think this: I transfer 10 bitcoins to my account (that could be registered with a fake name, since no verification is done) and then I could convert to chinese yuan and withdraw to unlimited different zhifubao accounts (difficult to track). At that point, could withdraw to a real bank account.
There's a limit to every chinese on how many dollars can receive every year (I think $50000).
Suppose there's a guy that wants to get $1 million to china without paying taxes.
Step 1: buy 1000 bitcoins
Step 2: convert them to 5 millions yuan
Step 3: withdraw them to 100 different zhifubao accounts
Step 4: go to countryside and pick up 100 random people saying "hey i give you 100 yuan if you help me"
Step 5: deposit from zhifubao and withdraw in their name
Step 6: Congrats: you transfered 1 million dollars illegally avoiding taxes

That's why china government got angry, any government in the world won't like this, not just china
In fact, now btc china is requiring id verification and will only do bank transfers in the same registered name of the account.

And at its peak, btc=>yuan rates were so high that you could make a very nice arbitrage and easy money if you bought bitcoins in dollars, then convert to yuan, then dollars again (make $20 every $1000)
Now the game is broken, you lose $40 every $1000 converted

They just banned zhifubao and similars (caifutong) to receive BTC, they didn't ban BTC

But if the issue really was tax evasion, then they could have just banned Zhifubao / Caifutong transfers for larger amounts. Small scale users got up unnecessarily in this mess.

how is BTCChina based and hosted in US..?  Do you mean only the computer servers are hosted in the US..?

I'm member at BTCChina and have spoken with support and they told me that fiat can only be withdrawn into Chinese mainland banks.  Also I've heard that you can personally walk into BTCChina office in China to deposit fiat, as you know that fiat cannot be deposited into BTCChina from Chinese banks.

yes, that is what i mean. since it is hosted in the US it can't be seized by China. Sure there is issue of the office in China however that is on the road to being rectified and won't be very long at all before it is all sorted so can continue uninterupted :)

Where does it says that it's hosted in the US?
It targets mainland china, it has an official icp beian authorization

if you want an ICP record, then you MUST operate from inside mainland china (see google: doesn't have ICP record and most services are blocked)

Well I think part of your post is just to drive down the price (and I doubt you can convince enough people to do that), Anyway BTCChina market has decreased and though they made some re-charging cards through third-party that can be bought by bank. Still there is a possibility that even that method might be banned later.

Can someone please post a set of links helping people understand this china issue. Friends and myself all thought China would be dropping BTC and that volumes traded would decrease... and this would drop the prices but today they are still booming.

I have done some trading between Alt coins on BTCE but i mainly just put my wages into BTC in hope to help me pay off my mortgage that lil bit faster. I would hate to have all those months of savings lost due to my lack of knowledge regarding china.

Thats interesting...
You did get your post count up (to 2) with these two jewels...

BTC China's pre-paid card deposit option would eventually be banned by the chinese gov.

It seems inevitable that BTC China is doomed.
Is that you mayax?

I have no idea where the price is heading in the short term and anyone who is honest will tell you the same.  I believe in Bitcoin so I expect that over time the general trend will be up (with or without China and India) with lots of ups and downs along the way.

There is only one thing we know for sure:  mayax is full of shit.

New Year’s Greeting from BTC China

January 7, 2014

Dear Customers,

Happy New Year!

2014 is here, and on behalf of BTC China, I would like to take the opportunity to personally wish you a happy and prosperous new year. Looking back, 2013 was a huge year for Bitcoin, attracting worldwide attention. From our humble beginnings in the summer of 2011, BTC China has followed Bitcoin’s rise and has grown steadily with your support. We thank you for that.

On December 16, we made an extremely difficult decision to abruptly raise our trading commission fees, back to the standard 0.3% level before we eliminated fees in late September. I would like to sincerely apologize for the abrupt nature of that decision, where we were not able to adequately notify our users, and give a proper explanation. The actual circumstances were complicated, and I assure you it was a difficult but necessary decision at that time. Due to imminent regulatory threats at that time, we felt we had to proactively reintroduce trading commissions, in order to promote a more sustainable Bitcoin trading atmosphere, with lower volatility. We now strongly believe that a zero-commission fee structure creates a frictionless trading environment, which causes large price volatilities, and encourages market speculation. By re-introducing a trading commission, we hope to foster a healthier marketplace, aiming for better price stability, to benefit Bitcoin in the long term. I hope you can understand our decision.

Now, I am excited to share with you three exciting things that we have put in place:

Maker-Taker fee structure. This new innovative fee structure will maintain a small 0.3% commission for traders, while rewarding market makers with a rebate. (The reward is effectively a “negative” commission, for market makers.) In summary, our company will still not be making money in commission revenue, giving all the benefits to our customers. By having a trading commission, this will reduce market volatility and reduce wild price fluctuations, which we believe is good for the entire Bitcoin market and ecosystem.

BTCC Voucher for deposits. This is BTC China’s new CNY deposit method, with many unique advantages. You can buy it easily from our network of resellers; it can be instantly credited into your BTC China account for trading. Best of all, BTCC Vouchers have no CNY withdrawal fees. They can be traded freely, and do not have geographical restrictions. You can now purchase BTCC Vouchers from our large list of recommended resellers, with some even offering a discount off of the face value. You can now get instant savings by using these BTCC Vouchers.

Reduction of CNY Withdrawal Fee: From popular demand, and to benefit bitcoin sellers, we have reduced our CNY withdrawal fee from 1.0% down to 0.5%. We thank you for suggesting this.

BTC China is the first and longest running Bitcoin exchange in China. We are committed to being the best Bitcoin platform in China. We know that trading commissions alone is not the only criteria to measure the value and attractiveness of a Bitcoin exchange. Instead, we hope to bring our loyal customers the best combination of high quality customer service, new products and services, in a Bitcoin exchange that is fully in compliance with regulatory authorities.

In recent months, we have faced periods of extremely high traffic, where our servers and customer service teams were not able to meet our desired level of service to our customers. I apologize for that, and we will work extra hard this year, to improve our technology capabilities and grow our customer service team. We have recently expanded our dedicated customer service team to over one dozen full-time employees, and they are passionate and ready to serve you and handle all of your support needs, now on a true 24-by-7 basis.

We will continue to lead the market through innovative products and services. (Have you tried our newest hosted wallet product, Picasso?) As the market leader in China, we will continue to invest in R&D and operations, continue to recruit talented people, and continue our mission of bringing Bitcoin to China, in a sustainable manner.

2014 is already here. Despite the ups and downs that the Bitcoin industry has experienced in 2013, BTC China is committed to building the best Bitcoin platform, so we will never give up. We humbly ask for your continued support, as we go down this journey together. We will continue to grow this company, to offer you the best products and services, this year and for many years to come.

As always, we would love to hear your feedback. Please email us at business@btcchina.com.

Best Wishes,
Bobby Lee
