Title: Proudhon...can you please send me 1 BTC as you promised? [Paid!]
Post by: Amitabh S on January 14, 2014, 10:59:31 PM
Hey proudhon, guess you forgot.. so pointing you to the original thread:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=157693.0

In case others are wondering, I speculated in March that 1 BTC will hit 1000 USD before 2013 end. Proudhon said that he'll give me one BTC if it does (and it won't happen)/
Well it did cross 1000 USD in 2013, so I am owed 1 BTC.. would most people agree?

With the recent screwps.. Cyprus, Chase bank, etc. and so many new adopters, it looks like we will cross 1000 this year, a couple of years too soon in my opinion.. And im not complaining :D

I'll give OP a bitcoin if it hits $1000/BTC this year.  Will not happen.

Proudhon, hope you will be as good as your word.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Proudhon was true to his word. (Proudhon, hope you didn't mind my gentle remainder)

Lol.  I'm sure he'll weasel his way out of it.  In any event, it would be amusing to leverage a tax on the bear and bull trolls here (proudhon used to be a bearish troll, now he is a bullish troll).  It would work like the upvote/downvote system on reddit.  Too many downvotes and you have to start paying BTC to continue posting.  The proceeds go to those who get upvoted routinely.   ;D

I'm pretty sure Proudhon has enough coins to do what he promised and he seems like a guy who'll do it without too much hassle.

Sent OP a PM.  Genuinely forgot about this.  He sent me an address a few months ago, but I need him to confirm that I can still use that one, or give me a new one, before I ship my last bitcoin off.  Once this one is gone I won't have anymore, plus I'm short on margin since it's clear bitcoin is done.

That's pretty big of you proudhon. I honestly thought you'd try to weasel out of this.

Of course he's not stupid. 1 BTC to Proudhon is going to be but one drop in a vast ocean awash with BTC.

I lost few bets  this  way some times ago. I paid  but  there are times when I regret. I suspect that if it would be other way around some of those people would only laugh at me,at that time they thought probably  that I am kind of easy mark, I saw this but I paid. Your situation reminded my this feeling, now I would probably not fulfill such obligation because of sour taste of memories.

and there is one other thing now we can trace your transaction back don't we?

I don't have time to watch the price all the time.  Sure, it's at ~$800 right now, but that's just an erratic blip on the way down.  I'm just getting out ahead of these things.

Speaking of bets, there is another one (http://bitbet.us/bet/716/btc-worth-over-5000-before-2015/) with better odds than the last (http://bitbet.us/bet/635/1btc-10-000-usd/). Odd termination policy tho.

Which means the guy is right. Keeping your word should be the default. Good to see he did of course, but it says more about most of the rest of humanity that it is taken as unusual.

Remember about half a year ago proudhon trollingly begged for donations, but when he actually got some from amused readers he sent those to the bitcoin foundation...

I have very low regard for the humanity in general, but some people you just know aren't cheap, so it's reassuring to have him prove it yet again.

Now we need to mistakenly send him 1000 BTC to test exactly how far his integrity goes ;)

Anyone who thinks Proudhon is stupid for keeping his word is a man not trust... or make bets with.

Then, be honest and send it back to him, the price didn't yet cross the 1000$ on bitstamp/btc-e.

In 2013? Of course it did!

Yes, it definitely did a month or so ago. And, I meant to pay him back then but I just forgot in the shuffle of the holidays and a busy work schedule.

Seriously guys, please lay off of him about sending it back. He hasn't hassled me about it, he's been patient about it, and I just want him to have it.

And besides, it's only a matter of time before we get confirmed news from sources that the governments of the world will imprison anyone who holds bitcoin. Really, I'm just looking out for myself.

Indeed. It's a good thing you got rid of that hot potato before you had to actually pay someone to take it from you! We all know that is coming sooner rather than later!

It's not the first time proudhon bets against bitcoin. I hope he has learned a lesson.

Thankfully, Adam generously let me off the hook for that one. There was another one, if I recall, that I ended up paying out on, But I'm a little afraid to go digging around.

Yeah, there's this strange habit of people who are known to have lots of bitcoins, suddenly claiming they donated a bunch and lost a bunch and gave away a bunch and now have far less than they originally had.

Very convenient! Almost as if they worry the IRS is reading their forum posts ;-)

Just say "boating accident."

Holy shit. I don't want to go to jail! What should I do?

Is it plausible to say that although blockchain and bitstamp could prove that I have had bitcoins I currently don't have any because I accidentally lost the private keys?

Hmm, let me talk to Satoshi and Matonis and I'll get back to you on that.

Actually interesting how that would go in court. While with physical cash there always is some recepient (nobody would buy the "I burned it"), but "I lost the PK in hd crash" is quite a possible scenario now. Just present a broken notebook.
