Hobbits will check why browser thinks wallet is malware.  Code is in github, a fork of Litecoin 0.8.6.2.

Also. mining pool issue is fixed now with disconnects.  Hobbits are SORRY about that

you don't need nodes and you can use any RPC port you want..  4444 or whatever.. just use the same for miner as in conf file

as example for solomining

Code:
rpcuser=username
rpcpassword=x
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
rpcport=4444
server=1

in the .bat file instead of that stratum blabla.com:23423  url for pool you use   http://127.0.0.1:4444  and the same password and username that you use in the .conf file in your appdata

restart the client once you have saved the  hobbitcoin.conf  file

Meh, thanks but this still doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Like I said: solo noob. I don't know what exact code to put into conf file, or how to find user/pass, or how to use with the wallet/cgminer.

Doesnt matter as long as its the same in your .conf file as it is in your .bat file.

Just pick a port > 1024

There's a random chance to get up to 50000 extra Hobbitses (default value 1000 Hobbitses). See the GetBlockValue function (https://github.com/hobbitcoin-team/hobbitcoin/blob/master/src/main.cpp#L1077-L1114).

AdamT after you create the hobbitcoin.conf file, run the qt client from the command line like: hobbitcoin-qt.exe -server

To answer your question, yes the client needs to be running.

Is it not a little too early for selling? Those coins are worth nothing... if you wait a few days and difficulty rises then your coins will be much more expensive. Look at CASH coin, the first day i was able to mine 1000 CASH, now they are trading at 0.00070000 so that was 0.70BTC in one day with 3MH/s installation.

Why would you pool mine anyways right now?  Just found another 51k block soloing.  And I got 700 hash on one rig and 400 on the other.   Two cards.  Nothing serious at all.

Infact bad timing of the owner, when you release your coin then make sure that you're at least 8 hours or so available on the first day... but look, i'm not worried, when you check Cagecoin... it is even trading on coinedup...

Can someone make a promotion movie like this:

Planning to do the same. Infact a was at Klondike, then moved over to CASHcoin and now Hobbits and moved half of my hash back to CASH because the difficulty of Hobbits went a little too high. I really want to arrange somekind of conf call with the owner to discuss the steps to make this coin successful.

I've installed the wallet in a VM, but I like to have them portable so I can just copy them across machines when needed.

It's still to early to tell but, the potential is there we just need to promote it!

I'm HOLDING on to my HBC a couple more adopters and who knows where this coin can go.

Truth currency will gradually growing. Let it go. Soon we will see the stratosphere and perhaps even the end of the year we see the moon. Actually what would be a value to the moon? 1000 satoshis?

Always compare it to other coins... infact this one is a little special with the block rewards, but i would say look at BIL/LOT similar structure. So i believe a 50 satoshis per coin. Then i will be very happy. Mine something like 500K in less then one day, so that will give me nice amounth of BTCs :)

But in a few days the difficulty will increase and undermine this coin will be more difficult and the value tends to rise correct? Also will be the time that the block plus the bonus reward will halve then I think at least 150 satoshis reaches soon. I'm saving 1KK for 150 satoshis and 1KK for 300 satoshis.

Looking at the windows wallet it looks like a setup.exe. I think most people including myself would prefer a zip file.

exe's are just a another layer where a malicious person can do stuff which is why nobody uses them for wallets.

Hobbits!

Our dev team of Frodo and Gandalf have been busy making videos and reaching out to the exchanges to get us listed.  Many thanks to the folks at coin-swap and freshmarket for picking up HBC.  We have an amazing network of miners and it is taking off after just a couple of days in existence.

You can trade your coins on the following exchanges (although most people we have talked to are just holding right now):

https://coin-swap.net/

https://freshmarket.co.in

Also please show your support to cryptsy for getting us listed (https://cryptsy.freshdesk.com/support/discussions/topics/74977)

If you haven't seen our latest video, here is a link: http://youtu.be/uWuun8g5UJc

Let us know if there is anything else you think of to help drive this coin beyond all the others.  We've gotten some great feedback and ideas that we've been running with.

Say beyond the legal name, has a beautiful community that is besides the few still showing very quiet. We have a good network with 200mhs. For a coin with less than a week of existence I think is good. Join us and be happy over a Hobbit

Someone needs to design a decent coin avatar. I mean seriously it's hobbit coin and deserves a decent picture to represent itself. Maybe a small animated/web2.0 hobbit village or a adventuring hobbit.

Just needs a facelift and a bit of marketing IMO.

There are 2 options here:

a. this coin is dead from the start (in less than 2 weeks)
b. because the coin has no premine (or has it), developers are quietly mining it before a "relaunch".

Hobbitcoin is a good name for a coin, and may succeed with the fans of "Middle Earth", but I wouldn't invest more than 1 day of hashing power on it.

At the current 0.4  difficulty, if to rent 10 MHs of scrypt rigs you can get about 3-4 millions of it in a day (if not more), that would cost about 0.15 BTC for the rent.

But, Is it worth it?

Why is your friend not on bitcointalk for 2 weeks... this is not how you support your miners, how do he think to make a good coin when he is infact pre-mining in silence, and let everybody think that his coin is dead.

You have nothing to lose.... at the moment it is worthless... the question is:

1. Do you have time to spend every day 2 or 3 hours
2. Do you have technical knowhow?
3. Will you do this all by yourself? Start created a team around yourself, yeap that will cost $$$$ or Hobbitcoins :)
4. How good are you in marketing?

Ok, let me answer  you!

1. I have the will of a normal person to do what I can, I know and have to do! I have more than 2 or 3 hours daily, so number 1. is PASS by me!
2. Technical know how!?!? I started with computers at age of 15 ( I have 38 at this moment), Commodore 64, Amiga 500, PCs. I was working some programms in "basic", "symons basic",  (comodore 64)... All this about coins I understand how it works but I can't learn how to make my coin ( I don't know c, c+, c++, c+++...). Number 2 is FAILED by me but if there are someone in community with a knowledge he can help!!!!!
3. Yes, I can do it by myself with help of community. I don't know why do you need someone to do it alone, off course I will need a help! I have some Hobbitcoins and bitcoins to invest but not to much! 10% of all my coins I can invest!!
4. Good in communication, never d marketing but considering it very easy,  have some corespondents with BigVern so maybe I could have some help of him, I dont know!

So, that is me.,,

This is a great coin, unbelievable, mining it for a few hours and already have 5M coins, now if nothing happens, no pickup with the new developer/owner then i lost a few hours mining, if something will happen then i mine a lot of coins and it didn't cost me anything. Anyone else want to join?

Anyway, i already contacted a few exchange to get Hobbitcoin listed, maybe they need to rename the coin and call it Humancoin or something like that...

Mining pool http://pool.hobbit.co.in is not displaying the correct amount of coins that you can mine during a day, it looks like it is ignoring the +50000 coins blocks, we are mining a lot more... can someone have a look at it, as this will improve sentiment for new miners, as now it looks like you only mine a few coins, but in fact my mine x20 times more.

https://www.cryptorush.in/

Why cryptorush.in, at the moment we need to be realistic, we cannot go to cryptsy, coinedup or coinmarket.io, they will never accept Hobbitcoin at this stage. cryptorush.in is a site that allow smaller coins to have the possibility to grow. I've mine it for 12 hours or so, and i have 7M coins, so the estimate in the miningpool is not correct, maybe that is another reason why we should put some more effort in this coin. I was already very pleased to see that the guy that will now look after the community is also mining, so that is a good start. I don't expect a lot from Hobbitcoin in the first weeks, and most likely when it hit a exchange a few people will just sell their coins because they want money.

We don't need dev, we are all devs now! First we all have to contact cryptorush to ask him to put hobbit coin into it. Placebo and I did that yesterday, we need all of you to do that! We have to implement hobbit coin into cryptorush's owner in head!

Drdejanm needs to create a new post, we need to relaunch Hobbit (meaning promote it as a new launch, but don't change anything so that people keep their coins as some of them were here from the beginning) , i don't mine to pay 0.25BTC to get listed, but i first want to see some nice ideas, some promotion so that we can move this one.

Nope, no new launch, something similar like Stablecoin and Kitthehcoin. Both originele developers went away and another person took over the coin. People that have mine the coin put their hashrate on this coin, so a new launch will not be fair to a few miners that Hobbitcoin still have/had.

I'm not in for a pump & dump story, of course those will happen for sure. But not here to mine 500M Hobbit coins, put it on the market, make 5BTC and move away...

I really want to see a merchandise store (website :)) where you can buy, amazon gift cards, etc using Hobbit coins. As i said, add my skype, lets check with a few people that are interested, lets talk with the owner, lets see what he got to say. I notice that the friend of the owner is mining himself, so good start, putting your elelctricity on your own (or friend) coin is a sign of trust.

it's absolutely sad that a coin with such a good name is abandoned so soon.
I say we take over, design a new coin with Frodo on the front and get it to an exchange.

Like this:

Not with the blockchain intact, everyone keeps their coins.

It's not too mined. A dump will Always occur no matter what when you hit an exchange.
I think implementing KGW and forking it might the best thing to do when doing a relaunch.
Maybe Original creator want to give the coin to us?

Well yes, but it was a pump and dump scheme.
But i really like this coin, i hope it's more then just another pump and dump. It's what we make it.

Sure we could just relaunch a new coin with the same name on a new blockchain. But that is not really re-launching it when the Original just keep on existing. It's like the Pandacoin ... were there are 3 different versions all alive.

I would not change the structure... that would be like changing the gamerules during gameplay. It should stay intact.
But it is like Amph says , when people are sitting on a lot of HBC, you know it will be dumped.  But since there is no price at all right now i think it does not matter.

Well no reason to leave really.

First we have to make contact to the person who knows the dev, i already send him a PM.
It would be good to implement something like a gravity well so we know it will be one dump from the people owning the coin now, and after that it will not be abused by multipools.

The owner from Xivra is also dutch... really trying to achieve something nice with his coin, but as you all know when coins are moving lower the community is complaining :) With Klondike coin the same, we are now discussing a fork, is it needed? mmm, maybe, but because the coin price is moving lower (like a lot of the coins) community is not happy and want changes.

Multipools are killing all coins. That is why you need protection from them with fast diff retargets making it not possible for them to mine. That is why forking it and implementing KGW would be my first choice.  But if we cannot get our hands on the dev we could just leave things like they are. But you know it will be pumped and dumped all the time, never giving the coin time to mature. Or we could start a second coin on a new blockchain. But then there would be 2 Hobbitcoins. Not really a good thing.

On the other hand when a coin has momentum it can survive these pools. But you need big media exposure, and great community like Dogecoin.

Klondike coin implemented KGW but what happened, multipools stay away, and no interest anymore and coin price drop little by little. I believe it is best to create a retargeting based on time and not based on blocks, if that is possible, this allow multipools to do their thing and not destroy the coin as the retargeting will be in 6 hours or so.

Maybe we can ask the HoboNickel devs to adapt this coin. HobbitNickels!

hahaha... nah know all the people needed to do this.

Klondike is just a bad name.  They were better off naming it RushCoin or something.
HobbitCoin is a great name, there are millions of fans of the subject. That is why this coin might work. But you need commitment. I have plenty of ideas for this coin....

Interrest in a coin solely from multipools is no interrest at all.  But let's wait if we can get in touch with the dev.

I think we need to continue working on Hobbitcoin.

Donate 5% or even 10% to his family and try to make Hobbitcoin the coin that he thought Hobbit would have become. If we can create a nice group of people that want to work around this coin then a lot can be achieved.

What those the community think of it? We assign a group of promoters, someone taking over the coin and we donate 10% to his family. We create a donation address and from the moment it hits the market and the price look nice, the family can sell those coins.

that is a very easy way to go, but you would have all sell walls and zero buy walls.
with a passed dev and no community not a person alive will buy the coin.

also there are newer exchanges which are very easy to get on, some as easy as I just email or message them and bs for 5 min and as long as BE is online, it is listed.. that easy!

I would start with community first... I would collect small donations from community and use those coins to bounty a host for BE ...
than perhaps a dice and android game... than you have momentum
all can be done in a week btw!

According to wikipedia : "However the word "Hobbit" is a trademark owned by the Tolkien estate."
so unless there's a rebrand, it likely won't get listed - after what happened with Coinye, any whiff of copyright infringement will be enough to scare away exchanges.

It's a pity HobbitsesCoin doesn't roll off the tongue as easily, it's quite funny with a good Gollumesque twist. But considering it's a quote from the films, makes me think it's not completely safe from legal persecution (insert angry Peter Jackson meme here).

What about a deal with Tolkien ?!  :P Or having Peter Jackson involved ?!  ;D

...Is it that stupid ?

Dear Tolkien,

I know you're dead and you don't wanna be disturbed anymore. BTW do you mind if we put the face of a hobbit on a coin ?

Dear Peter,

It's true that hobbitcoin has no value. Anyway what if every single fan who buys theatre ticket or dvd gets a few hobbitcoins ?

1- Crypto-Rush

We need to collect .25 btc (adding fee). I'll sell 12 500 000 HBC (.00000002 BTC / HBC) instead of asking donations (quite different)

Here is my BTC address : 12jVVka784Qq73PMypHnxxjaDYeoJUUgSs
Please send me PM with transaction ID and HBC address so I can pay you back

2- coinmarketcap.com

I'll take care of having a block explorer set up

I do not see any problem.

There are
APPLEcoins
DELTAcoins
WIKIcoins

to name only a few - very likely there are more trademarks registered than there are altcoins with that name - and we have got a lot of altcoins by now.

But AFAIK none of them has a registered trademark for that names as 'altcoins'.

if you want any coin to work, you need 2 things
1) coin needs a dev to fix eventual technical issues
2) dev or investor needs to pay the right people to promote it. that's right. pay!
the community will just follow the hype, so pay the right people to promote the coin and you'll be in moneyland

Can't get the wallet to sync.  Anyone have nodes?

Try these nodes:

188.226.175.6
31.6.70.133
5.9.158.79
87.236.196.169
144.76.57.52

Thanks!  I kept my wallet but haven't updated the blockchain in months, and whatever nodes were included in the wallet seem to be dead now.  Anyone else going to try to swap for CCB [https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=667866 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=667866)]?  The coin-swap HBC-DOGE market is stagnant (are there any others anymore?).

I plan on exchanging HBC for CCB.

You can swap your HBC against CCB

Wallet doesn't sync and can't get old coins out of the exchange.

Hobbitmaster needs to die in a fire for defiling the hobbit name.

Yes this is a dead coin. I am surprised some exchanges are still listing it.

Don't worry, the dead won't mind.
