As far as I heard, the ICO Scam raised over $ 1 billion. Why did people invest in these ICO? Do you think this situation has changed now?

No one knows the fate of any ICO on this forum. They come promising almost heaven to us and we have no other option than to join. One thing you have to know no one knows fraudulent ICOs. They invest into it and later realise that they have been scammed.

What ICO are you talking about?
Most of the people who joined scam icos are either wanting a quick profit or just an uninformed investor/beginner in ico world.

People are now prone to any opportunities, because people hope that they will some day become very rich, but you need to understand that this obviously will not happen to all people. Just can not be all rich.

Nothing has changed and the system do still exist even up to this day or even possible on next years to come depending if such strict regulation would be impose then it would somehow stop but for now scammers and fraud projects do really exist and most of them are on current sale :D
Its not actually people do believe into fraudulent ICO but they do blindly out investing into projects without any basis and as long they do invest they do already believe that they can able to get good returns but later on they would realize that they had been scammed already.

This year many peoples aware in fraudulent ICO so I do not here these kind of issues in crypto platform. But how do you think people believe in fraudulent ICO investment so scam projects are not survive in long term. May be every project has expecting good reputation so all the projects are run successfully in future.

Because most people don't have enough knowledge about that in what they were investing and the scammers are getting more perfect while creating the ICO's.But it needs to be realized by the ICO investors or it can affect the future of crypto currencies.

It's simple. Many people want easy and fast money. They are ready to invest in any projects that promise great profitability. Do not believe the promises before investing in ico, look at the development team and various ratings. So you can choose a good and promising ico and not lose your investment.

People are all very greedy and when the ICO projects were very popular and very profitable, many people made good money, but now the situation has changed and now there are no good projects, and most fraudsters, but people continue to invest and lose them

People play in online casino. People play in ponzi scheme. People invest in ICO based on same reasons.

People are losing their money to fraudulent ico projects. And then they begin to say that all cryptocurrency scammers is wrong.

I think no one predicts an ico will be a scam, we must be ready to bear all the risks, must be more careful again in investing in ico see the concept of ico and read the white paper of their project, do not go wrong invest in the scam ico

actually, with the many scam ico doesn't mean that there is nothing a legit ico. so many the legit ico that can be followed. it's a risk for investors and bounty hunters in following an ico. we should be able to choose a good ico to follow in order to avoid from scam ico.

Yes,  I believe that there are many scam ICO's joining in the crypto community and that people should be keen and observant when selecting to invest a legitimate ICO. Just to remind for those who would wish to invest to be sure they should invest only they can afford to loose. Consider also that there is always a risk involved when invessting cryptocurrencies.

majority of ICO investors are gamblers. this type of people don't research about what they are investing in, they just make the investment like a gambling game in hopes that they can "win" and make a lot of money. and since sometimes their luck is there and they win, they continue doing it although they get scammed by many of them and lost most of time.

People don’t invest in such ICO scams willingly, dude. That’s quite obvious if they knew it before that the ICO is a scam they will never invest their money in it. But yes, people can also be blamed for their loss. Some investors don’t search about the team or read the project carefully before investing in it, due to which they are unable to know that the team is fraud. Some even give into the offer of earning unusually very high profits.

It's because the scammers are getting more sophisticated and so it's easier to trick the investors into thinking it's a real project. ICOs are still very profitable so if a good one can be found then there is a lot of coin to made from these investments

The majority of scam icos have been using the photo that has been taken from the internet. that's really important to do a research about the photo of the team rather than try do focus on the their whitepaper.
So many scam hunter has been doing this way to reveal the true identity of the scam ico itself.

This ICO fever has taken over the world and now if somebody invest into one ICO they will tell to all his friends to invest because that project it will be huge and like this an ICO Train is form and a lot of guys are investing in something they don't even know about.

They get very wrong trust in the wrong ICO, therefore the lack of basic knowledge about ICO and other projects, such as the ICO goes on, there is fraud everywhere, laziness in analyzing is someone's fault, no one can be blamed in this case every people must find fault with themselves, regretted that the more fraud is everywhere, then be careful in investing.

With this free market they are very free to enter and enter the scope of the market, there needs to be a law on the arrival of new ICOs for better filters which are frauds and which are good for the community.

Because you still try to identify fraudulent or not,even the project originally was not fraudulent and was trying to implement a good idea,well then the market went into decline,and mass-correction,and you say the norms were collected,but see that it is impossible to implement the project as she wanted,that people and collects money and runs away

We can't remove the scammers from the crypto market until the people need to have enough knowledge about the crypto currencies and its technology,but now most of the people investing on the ICOs based on their promotion and offers and they are investing here to make money in short term but in future we need to invest on the technologies.

I doubt anyone would willingly invest in a TGE that they are aware is a scam.
Not everyone has the tools to discern which ICO is legitimate, and even with the tools, one can still fall victim.

My dear do you no that inability not to take a risk is also a risk itself? some persons have become rich by investing on ICOs while some have been robed to poverty so it is a win or loose game

I've seen a bunch of complete idiots who literally don't do any research into a project before investing. Typically the ICOs that are most successful are the ones that have a real understanding of how to market and acquire investment. Unfortunately some of these projects are also scam ICOs that end up generating a lot of investment and eventually leading to an exit scam.

Just remember the age old proverb, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. If they are promising more than 50% returns in a year, be extremely skeptical.

If these people know that these are scam project, they will not invest on these scams Ico, but these scammer are now very good on imitating a good project, even as old timer I am still at lost on finding a legit project, I'm just watching daily updates for any hint if the ICO is legit or a scam one.

Yes, I think that the situation has changed already. People no longer believe in that thing called ICO, at least not en masse. If first ICO's were highly successful, these days it is no longer the case. There's a saying, something like  "once bitten twice shy", so those who have lost their money in fraudulent schemes now know better than in ivest in shady enterprises.

On the other hand, there will always be gullible people or just excessively greedy ones as it has been for hundreds of years already since time immemorial.

That’s not right. No one would purposely invest their money in anything that can lead to loss in the future. And by the way, these Scam ICOs show themselves to the public as being legit and people get deceived and thereby leading to them to invest their money in it and at the end, these fake ICOs will show their real self and make away with their money. So none of us gives money to them on purpose, we are all not stupid…. It’s a scam.

This is not the only option. About a decade or so ago, when the Internet had become widespread but there were no cryptocurrencies yet, the Web was infested with HYIP programs (just another name for an online scam and Internet fraud). And what d'ya think, people were bringing money there too. Were they not aware that those weren't real businesses and couldn't possibly pay so high returns? In the first stages it is impossible to understand about ISO - it is fraudulent or not fraudulent. Therefore, investors make mistakes. But if you invest a lot of ICO, the risk of errors decreases.

I don't think that there is anyone who would purpose choose to believe and invest in a fraudulent ICO. People mostly do do because they are of the opinion that the ICO is a good one, and then go ahead to invest in it, only to get scammed at the end of the day, and that's a really sad thing. Anyone who willingly invest in a fraudulent ICO, is probably in on it, from the get go.

The thing is that people do not always know that they are dealing with fraudulent ICOs there are people that think that everything in the market is still legit, so they put a lot of money into them. I think some of the crypto investor know the risk in investing in ICO and they are betting that they will gain big profit from this. While the new investor dont know that it is a scam or fraud they are just a victim.

Many people are actually blindly choosing to join the market after hearing the myth of the rich in the crypto market. So these people actually don't know what crypto is, and they don't know how big the risk is in this market. They all expect to get rich overnight, so there will be so many fraudulent ICOs released.

hi mate! ofcourse people who invested in these ICO's are not aware that the project they thought are legit was a SCAM. who would have thought that they might be scammed, no one. they'd just chose the wrong project to invest with. these unfortunate people were definitely hammering themselves because of this wicked act of scammers. i feel sorry for them. cheers!

A lot of people usually fails to check on the legitimacy of an ICO, basing their decisions on mere support they are seeing for an ICO. I think most time, it is not the fault of the victims , they are newbie who doesn't know much yet about how blockchain technology work. This criminals made them to believe they will deliver with a lot of deceptive advertisements and roadmap.

Because people who trust such projects have only two options or they will try to test their fate with the help of similar investments or they simply will not do anything. Because they do not have a third option, it's their problem.

Greed, that's why. Most people rush when they got blinded by greed, they ignore potential issues, scam warning, etc. Yeah, I think the situation is slowly getting better. I've read somewhere that the money raised by ICO is currently dropping starting from 2018 and hit a new low in this quarter. That's a good news. I just hope that the entire ICO hype would just die eventually. All those money poured into ICO could be a good use in some other project that bring real benefit instead of the pocket of the ICO team.

Some scams are looking really good and some is offering amazing things and people want to believe.

Most of the times, those who have been scammed wanted to get rich overnight hence grabbing the opportunity which they think can give them just that. Investing in cryptocurrency does not work that way. Yes, it can probably make you rich. I've seen people who have made their way in becoming rich thru investing in cryptos but not overnight. It takes a lot of patience and waiting so no rush to avoid being scammed.

Its like when you bitcoin first introduced to you. People would say they become financially free by investing in it and even they explain it to you how, you still get curioused and want to experience it. Even though you are experimenting on it, you still put some time, money and effort into it. People who wants to earn more tries everything and i guess thats better than not trying at all.

You never know at the beginning if this or that project fails. Just a year ago this market was extrimely profitable, many many İCO projects were created.  Unfortunately lots of scam coins poped out too. At the beginning it is difficult to understand if the products worth buyin or no. Researching, reading lots of information helps a bit but still it is risky.  To my mind important thing is you must do deep research of  development team and product before investing.

The ongoing projects behind the ICO look promising that's why more investors are attracted to it and make others believe to invest in it. In the earlier stage, you can't really tell if the ICO is legitimate or scam. Therefore, it's not anyone's fault. It is just that the people who invested are just victims of this scam ICO's.

I think no one wants to invest or join in an ICO that is obvious scammy or fraudulent. Maybe because the dev's team is expert in concealing their identity and their project seemed very promising somehow but unknowingly it's a trap and before they know it, they had been scammed.

Alway check their website, their communities, are they active on social media etc. Also, do you believe in their project etc. For example, I follow closely SciDex. They are creating a new type of smart contract generator for complex transactions. So that even regular businesses that need legally binding contracts can be on the blockchain.

I do not believe that all ICO companies are scammers. Not a large proportion of good, promising projects still exist. And the fact that people are rushing and investing without considering the company fully. The business and problems of the most investors.

It is hard to detect a very promising cryptocurrency. It could be very promising and the sharing is very high that is why many investors are fooled.

I know cases when people who are not one year in the crypto currency and even they fell for the tricks of scammers, because there is information that makes you believe and hope but in the end it's just a Scam trick.

well orchestrated story is much more interesting compare true and sincere technology that improve life. people are loss minded sheep they like to follow charismatic story teller, regardless what story it is, true or scam. remember during high school every one like to follow popular kid instead of nerds?? the real people who actually build the world are the nerds. not those popular kids. so make choice wisely.

Most of the time most of the people do not know that they are investing in some thing fraudulent. They are just trying to make money and trying to get into projects early enough that they have the most advantage to make money from the market. Then there are the people who know they are investing in something fraudulent but are just trying to make money before they pull out

We can not say ICOs are scam on the whole but most of ICOs are definitely scam and many of them comes with less than $0.01 even their coin value is $0.5 during ICO sales.
These investors are mostly newbies who don't research before opting a coin and then they lose their money, we should always give priority to bitcoin first

That doesn't determine you will get profit even though the altcoin has been listed on the market. Many shitcoins who doesn't has a good projects so that only a few times in exchange and then doesn't has value cause there are no investors who contribute to make it worth. Bitcoin is one of the crypto currencies that will continue to survive, many investors in it and pump and dumps rarely occur even though has never happened. Someone who has long been in the crypto currency industry they will choose bitcoin compared to altcoin.

Newbies are the ones that fall victim for this and they will invest there hard earned money in this fraudulent projects, something have to be done about this ,I'd advice newbies to becareful and only invest in serious projects only ,scamy projects will only hurt you

In my opinion, the reason people believe and invest in fraudulent ICOs is that they are eager to make a quick profit. They have overlooked the principle of careful research and selection of potential ICOs for investment.

Guys, let's not forget that each of the investors has its own risk management. I think that some people understand that the risk (when investing in a suspicious project) is great, but also see a profit that they can get at the same time, having to sell the coins first.

The claim that ICO have raised One Billion dollars is still subject to different interpretations and arguement. However, many people have lost money to scam be it in ICO or some other form of scam. People loss money generally because of lack of knowledge of where they are putting their money into!

It is actually difficult to spot scam ICOs, they behave like real and they invest a lot of money to promote the project, that's why people don't spot them. You have to do a lot of research to know about them.

Not everyone has the ability or has learnt how to identify scam ICOs. Some just invest because they see others do the same or that they were deceived into investing. This is one of the reasons we need to take our time, in order to learn some things before investing.

Because most of the investors right now especially newbies are attracted immediately by its features and its growth return of investment. Without looking further on the whitepaper or even making verification of the team members that is involved in the ICO.

at the beginning of the project they always presented a lot of positive things from whitepaper, road map and development team. big expectations are in the minds of everyone, including investors. but at the end of the period, sometimes ico is not on target and is considered a scam. but not all of them, maybe only a few who did not succeed in achieving their soft cap or hard cap.

Maybe they think that investing in ico cheat can get more results, even though I don't think so, they lack understanding about ico, I think it would be better if we study with experienced people about ico and cryptocurrency

I thought at first I didn't know that the ICO was a scam, so they invested there, but half of the ICO trip was considered a scam, so nobody knew and all of this was made a lesson to be more rigorous and not find a scam anymore. This ignorance should not be considered to believe in a scam ICO.

What ICO did you mean that rised $1 billion? I don't think that people choose that scam project because they wanted to. That would be because they got scammed from the information that the project gave. So there is a lesson for us to learn better about new project with ICO, before we decide to put our money in it.

The very problem is that no one knows that an ICO is a scam ICO. The managers and owners wont tell the crypto community that their project is a scam I mean why would they?

I suppose those people are just plain lazy without checking out that ICO but just throw money into it. Maybe that ICO offer an irresistible deals like big discount to their tokens and pay money for good reviews by ICO bench mark sides and many fall into the trap. 

too much marketing and they were able to attract those investors. may be they gave big discounts for early buyers. but i cant understand that why those investors didnt do any good research about them before investing money. there are lot of good projects too. may be they tried to get huge profits. sad to see this type of news

I think those who have less experience with ico or new investors are the easy targets of scammers. Some people believe in outrageous promises of icos because of their greed and wants to get rich fast. Scam icos are often too good to be true with unbelievable targets and goals and people always falls for that.

And because there are a lot of newbies who act standardly. They check the white paper, the team and the project covers, and the scammers have already learned everything and it is difficult to identify them among such a multitude. I will not say that the experienced do not fall, this is the case.

I dont think its change the more ICO's implementing day by day i think its getting worse. Its all up to us to be aware in every project we've joining. In crypto were are prone of scam thats why we must be careful when investing in ICO.

people hear about crypto and go crazy, rushing in, looking for a quick way to get rich... I honnestly think that a lot of people make blind investments, without even reading the WP...

Agreed, I don't see any other reasons. Many clear scam ICO's get funds. Little, I saw new idea on the hype/ponzi market - exchange with one coin  ;D Clear ponzi on the smartcontract. But it offers as exchange or as ICO. Be smart, don't participate

They do it simply because of absence of knowledges.
They don't know what to do and that's why they follow fraudulent projects. They need more experience

Many investors still fall for those fraudulent ICOs out there because of their inability to research into the project they choose to invest with. I think that now people are more careful about the analysis of the ICO, before investing in it. But scammers have become more inventive and it is not always possible to understand until the last, whether it is a good ICO or not.

Basically, not all ICO's are intended to scam people. There's still a percentage of successful ICO that contributed too much in the market and the world. Still, investing in ICO is profitable but to avoid scam is difficult. I guess people believe in an ICO if they studied it well, and they are familiar with its project plan.

Investors do not normally know that the ICO they are investing are scams. If they do they would not have invested in those ICOs. In fairness, scam ICOs are getting sophisticated in presenting their project so people will believe in them. I think it is important that investors will become wiser this year so that people will go back in believing in cryptos.

From a few ico, people earned big money, x5-x10 is normal for good project after ico so many people started to invest them and they thought they will get good profit everytime but in 2018 this didn't happen and people lost much money in icos.

Many people are not aware that an ico is scam until after they have invested although some ICo's spell scam, even as a novice you will know that a particular project is scam looking at the website, whitepaper if at all there is and some other factors, but some people still invest.... I guess some like taking risk while there are ICo's that looks very genuine but ends up being scam. Most ICo's nowadays are fake and a waste of time and money. Nobody can't know that this is fraudulent project and still invest in such project. Most people that fall victims of the fraudulent are newbies, I could also remember when I started crypto I also fall victim of the fraudulent project.
