Title: Is there any reason to day trade anything other than bitcoin?
Post by: Bardman on August 01, 2018, 11:19:36 PM
Serious discussion please.

Obviously some alts can have significantly bigger gains than bitcoin when it comes to long term and bull runs, the last bull run from 6k to 10k for example, sure bitcoin was strong, almost a 2x but some of the top alt coins did more than a 2x even 3x. However that's only long term.

Short term I don't see any reason to trade anything other than bitcoin, especially knowing how little volume some of the other coins have, even top 10 alt coins, for example stellar only has 33m volume. So my question is, what's the point of trading stellar, for example, instead of bitcoin? You know that even if you are a whale and trade a lot, you wont be moving the market as much, if you have 1m and you trade stellar, that's already huge and we all know the 33m volume is probably not even real, a lot of it from bots trading.

It's also much easier to follow bitcoin because, well, the whole market follows bitcoin. Bitcoin dictates where the market goes.

First. It is necessary to consider what size of deposit. After all, if a person starts trading for example with $ 1000 and he buys bitcoin for all money, he initially puts himself in a bad position. Since we all understand that having bitcoin is good, but it doesn't always make us happy with him price. Therefore, a person will be a hostage to his decision to buy only one coin.
The second. Yes, the price of altcoins depends on the price of bitcoin. But if bitcoin increases by an average of 5% of the cost, at the same time, a lot of altcoins gain 20-30% of the cost. Accordingly, the altcoins have the opportunity to earn much higher. Of course, if the price falls, this pattern plays against the altcoins, so it's important to be on the alert.
In any case, everyone chooses what is more convenient for him to trade with. Personally, I prefer almost always trade with altcoins. But I also remember to accumulate bitcoin.

I think a good rule of thumb is to have at least 1 full BTC before playing with alts... Also, this way you can impress nocoiners telling them "hey I have 1 bitcoin!!!" ;D

Depends on the volume in my opinion. The higher the volume is the more a coin is suitable for day trading. But you are right, only a handful of coins in the top 10 are worth considering. Back in my day trading days I mostly traded BTC and ETH, but to be honest without any success. I simply didnt have enough time to watch the charts 24/7 ;-)

Day trading is much easier when we do it with bitcoins because as you said there is lot of price swings happens in a day and it also happens with altcoins as well but it is hard to predict the price of altcoins than the bitcoin. If you ask me never do day trade with any coins because in long term you will end up with earned nothing.

Bitcoin and Etherum are indeed coins that have a very high level of popularity.
Therefore, the level of risk in investing in Bitcoin and Etherum will not be too large.
I also believe that coinmarketcap can be our benchmark in investing.
The higher level of popularity will be closer to us in the opportunity to success.
I will always choose Bitcoin as the main coin in day trading.

Not that good of a trader but here's my opinion:

Other coins and tokens has lower trade volumes and liquidity. So theoretically, they should be significantly more volatile than bitcoin.
Higher volatility = higher chances of price swings = higher chances of making(or losing) bigger amounts of money.

Thing is this though, if you do better trading bitcoin than other coins, then stick with trading bitcoin. You don't have to trade other coins/tokens because people are. At the end of the day probably no same person trades with exactly the same strategies. You do you. Just my 2 sats.

if you have 1m and you trade stellar, that's already huge and we all know the 33m volume is probably not even real, a lot of it from bots trading.
Volume is still volume whether it's traded manually by people or via bots.

Its not just BTC that us paired with USDT, this itself is a good reason already. If you can trade your ETH to USDT while the price spikes up then that's the same thing we did with BTC/USDT. ETH however don't burst up so much these day which is why its somehow risky. But there were months that spikes can reach up to 3-5%. There are more besides ETH.

There are no reasons, only aims. But answer on your question is yes, your best friend is coinmarketcap and some altcoin chart websites. It's hard to suggest you coins directly because such moments when daily trade worths are needed to catch on different coins. But on long term, for example take Ripple, last three years ripple rise more than 830x, from 0.004 to 3.32 and more.

Of course, it is more better to trade altcoins rather than Bitcoin because of the more high gains you could get from it. But for more secure trading then Bitcoin is the idea.

I have seen various professional traders state that it doesn't matter what asset or stock you day trade, the only thing that matters are the fluctuations, which is something I do agree with.

Overall, bots don't care what altcoin you are trading, so why would manual traders care? It's clear that when it comes to altcoins the worst coins without any idea behind them perform the best in terms of profitability.

One moment people are focusing on Litecoin for example, then directly hop over to Dash because there is more action happening, and more action means more potential profits.

Altcoins are preferred for day trading purposes because of how you can still bank on them with a small balance. If you lose a few % then so be it because you'll move to another coin to try your luck there.

Well it's true that its more secure and more predictable when we trade bitcoin, but trading alt coin for short term is better, the price swing of alt coin is bigger than bitcoin, and usually people trade alt coin because its cheaper, and sometimes alt coin rising percentage can be bigger than bitcoin, if you have small capital you wont get much in trading bitcoin for short term

That's just the rule of the past. Now things have changed. As bitcoin increases, the altcoins are not likely to increase with it. because when the bitcoin is pumped from $ 6k8 to $ 8k3, the altcoins did not rise under it. That was a bad thing, the traders were expecting this but it did not happen. So I think we can now invest in altcoins to make a profit instead of just investing in Bitcoin.

Bitcoin's phenomenal strengthening made many people interested in using Bitcoin some time ago bitcoin reached a fantastic figure, but quickly also slumped down, this also causes some people are still reluctant to collect Bitcoin

I was much loss in crypto trading and decide to hold my all coins in 2 or 3 months, and now i want to move to stock trading.  Since crypto market on bearish trend,  its hard for me to make profit.  And i thinking i have to try other asset to trade,  so i will have more experience in different kind of investment.

When you only buy Bitcoin and keep it in wallet, it's a waste of time and money. When Bitcoin is used to invest in Altcoin, it is reasonable and you will have more money to buy Bitcoin and increase Bitcoin value than original.

Obviously altcoins are never going to be as big as bitcoin. Although you can hold the top ten altcoins of coinmarketcap except bitcoin cash (which is a shitcoin) and then sell them in a year or two when they are affected by bull run. In other words, trading on the altcoins will have more risk but often the reward of that risk is not adequate. Hence you must sell them for bitcoin in the midst of the green market.

I just buy and sell a particular volume of btc - buy at low and sell at high. Simple way to recycle your money to make more money.

About Stellar, I cant give you any expert advice, but the basic altcoin strategy is same.

Probably higher risk and higher reward deal. If you invest into bitcoin than yeah you can make some money off it and it swings a lot however if you find some obscure coin that you really don't know what crazy stuff think it will do than you have yourself either a way to burst all your coins and lose a lot or you have yourself something that can go like x100 in couple weeks from the trades you do from the swings.

I really like bitcoin and prefer investing rather than trading however if I wanted to make a lot of money myself than I would have selected the second option to make more money from risky coins with the money I am willing to lose (or basically can afford to lose) so I have a chance at getting that into thousands instead of just couple bucks profit.

It is bitcoin that is good for long term trading, and altcoins, for the daily. Altcoins are more volatile than bitcoin, they can drop -10%, and then make + 30% (in a relatively short period of time). Accordingly, with the same investment, you will definitely get a much higher profit. I started trading with bitcoin, and I traded altcoins in parallel, and within a month I realized that trading with altcoins was much more profitable.

Day trading is more risky than every other form of trading and because of this I will prefer bitcoin to other coins because of the fluctuations in pricing.  Bitcoin is a bit more stable and highly predictable compared to other coins. Many of those coins can be manipulated by pump and dump group.

Stop day trading with bitcoin which is the thing causes too much price fluctuations and disturb the long term investors.Day trading can be quite profitable with crypto currencies in short term but you keep buying and selling the coins for a while you will have nothing substantial profits in long term so be a investor and let live the bitcoin longer by holding it.You still have lot of other crypto currencies go and day trade with it and make some money.

Bitcoin being more stable is the one that you can take advantage of being less risky on a short term. You can simply set sell orders in the bull market and then buyback coins at lower prices in the bear market - like at the time of writing this post bitcoin is around 6.5k USD and this is good time to buy. THough I have a feeling that price might drop to 5k USD ish soon if panic selling/dumping continues.

If you follow any such group you can actually take advantage of the opposite side trade. But its risky and not recommended.

Well if people are making money with bitcoin's fluctuations then you basically can't tell them to stop. Fluctiations can be taken advantage of when you day trade that even bear markets can produce decent profit.

yes maybe holding is a waste of time but converting into altcoin as well for me is not really safe. Wherin in my opinion even bitcoin always suffering because of the volatility i believe there's still a huge gain after .than altcoin.  And indeed there is a huge difference between alt and btc when it comes gaining profits.  , which is  altcoin  so stagnant than bitcoin.  And bitcoin always showing potential after.
So i think much better to invest or trade and etc in bitcoin.

I dont see anything other than holding or buying the dip when you enter a bearish trend. Its the time to stock up and get ready for a bull market as people keep on making FUD comments in every social media. You can try placing order to test the resistance of the market and the market movement trend but in my opinion thats not necessary for those who are not trading professionally but as a hobby.

Thats not totally true. If you enter altcoin trading you need to do extensive work on its history market and also the current price trend. If you can make money off trading it then its worth the risk though.

I believe there is a way like what's going on now that some people are chasing to make profits for a marginal trading or some switch in forex trading temporarily. The other way around is to keep on your strategy buy in dips and hold for a long term.

They would need experience in forex market for that. That said some people here other than investing and trading crypto are also interested in precious metals sector and the stock market and commodity market. However that is not the topic of discussion here but altcoin trading. Alts can be bought at low price to sell at high price.

People may not need to hold for long term at this time. I suspect a bull run later this year so mid term hodling is needed.

Ys that is right that there are so many other crypto currencies, which are to much good and having good potential, although they are currently trading undervalue and therefore we can expect that if we will put our money there, we can get a very good profit from there.

If we have purpose to increase amount of BTC we should trade that BTC with others altcoins, this way is risky so we should be carefull and make better prediction when time to buy and how many percentace of profit that we should be take it. We can see every day some altcoin become the biggest gainer. So trade BTC with others altcoin is way to increase BTC, and do not forget use stop loss to avoid big loss from altcoin crash.

Its important to identify those undervalued coins and take your share of them while they are still at dirt cheap price or those which you missed during ICO and want to enter into now. The bearish trend is still continuing and though the 24hour market price is green there is still dumping going on in between the green waves of bitcoin ethereum and other altcoins. This is still the best time to enter the market before the bull run this year end.

We can see every day some altcoin become the biggest gainer. So trade BTC with others altcoin is way to increase BTC, and do not forget use stop loss to avoid big loss from altcoin crash.
The daily gainers and looser list is baised and pumped everyday. The organic growth occurs through the demand and supply not the whales pumping shitcoins. Hence you should be careful of sudden pumps of any never-heard-of coin.

I would say it depends upon the volume of the coin.
Also, few coins follow some progressions that you can look for and execute decent trades.

Agree, basically you can't trade most altcoins, they are just pump and dump, don't fit into technical analyses. Bitcoin is also less susceptible to human factors as it is not backed by anyone.

I've definitely learned some lessons with failed trading. I think it's the hardest trading within one crypto, but a lot 'easier' if you trade from crypto to crypto. Recently I have had more success than not by doing this.

People day trade for different reasons and some simply do not really look much into daytrading btc-fiat pair but would rather prefer to take advantage of the fluctuation with the altcoin market to increase their number of bitcoins. However, I understand what the OP is saying about day trading btc-fiat since the entire markets move accordingly with the way bitcoin moves, which is actually true, but that is in a downtrend, but we also have to understand that altcoins can move up faster sometimes to a great value compared to bitcoin.

I have seen a lot of coins that you can easily keep increasing your btc stash with without stress and for what it is worth, I have seen that when I used to day trade altcoins, I tend to see more potential in gaining much more than just daytrading bitcoin. The only difference here is that you still need to use bitcoin as an indicator most especially when it comes to it making a move downward or whatever condition it is that results to an unfavorable one for the alts, and that makes it a lot of additional work to do.

Also, few coins follow some progressions that you can look for and execute decent trades.
The difficult thing is to identify those movement and take the risk to place orders. You may see a downtrend but even when you buy it might drop even more. There is also possibility that while the uptrend is ongoing, you may sell but the price keeps on rising. The key point which I am trying to highlight is that one should not become greedy during such movements. Whatever price you buy at or sell at be happy with that. Otherwise you will panic buy or panic sell.

I don't see any reasons why not to daytrade ETH or LTC (margin trading) or even some altcoins on Binance. Price actions is the same
If you have some important news that may have a good impact on the market and you already have some altcoins in holdings that you want to cash out of then its the reason. If you dont have any other coin then why bother.

Everyday I checked biggest gainer and biggest loser in Coimarket cap and everyday all that listed is always Altcoin ,  that mean fluctuation of altcoin is more high than Bitcoin,  and this is chance to make more profit.  With higher potential  profit also will be higher risk and we should be already have risk management.

Agree because the bigger the marketcaps, the faster your order will be filled on the market and it will benefit you more faster,
thats why I always trade on coins in the top marketcap, profits are faster and certainly much safer..

For me personally the reason I day trade coins other than bitcoin is because of the profits, even though you say the entire market follows bitcoin here only the bitcoin movement is not always jumping and also sometimes has to wait long to jump, so altcoins are another alternative for me to look for jumping and profit . Although indeed are a big volume it is very decisive when day trade even though there are many trading bots, but I am not too concerned about this.

Care to elaborate on how this works?

As far as my experience of trading goes, there is no guarantee of predictions of market unless you are doing the long term hodl game. If you are going for the top marketcap coins then the advantage is that trades will be quickly executed because their demand and supply is coming in much faster compared to other coins. But how does that make profits come fast? Profits would be individualistic depending upon what a certain trader has bought at and what they are selling at. ???

Trading bitcoin alone is safer but less profitable for low capital traders, the most bitcoin can do in a day sometimes is 5% and it takes a long period to get such jumps, but altcoins though riskier have the higher tendency of making more profit over time, however at all time like this when their is still some level of uncertainty in the market, it is safer to stay in Btc or fiat.

The main logic is that if you trade altcoins then you can make much more money. The chances of something that is already 200+ billion dollars reaching 20 trillion dollars in marketcap is very low however something that has 100 million dollars in marketcap reaching 20 billion in marketcap seems more doable. It is still quite difficult to achieve but don't forget ethereum was once 9 dollars (just 2 years ago) and today it is 200 dollars and saw 1500 dollars at one point. Something reaching from 9 dollars to 1500 dollars is the thing everyone is trying to achieve while trading smaller stuff.

Also altcoins believe it or not are more volatile than bitcoin, right now bitcoin seems more logical to trade but there was a point when people stopped dealing in bitcoins and not only moved to other altcoins but also started investing into ICO's to make x100 in profit.

When Bitcoin uptrend others altcoin also will going up with bigger gainer, so we have to trade altcoin as well to make more profit, in 2017 alot of coin was going up to 10 times just in amonth and this gainer bigger than Bitcoin.  And when Bitcoin overbought and will change to bearish we should be exit from the crypto market because all altcoin wll follow it and trade in others asset like stocks market. So as expert trader , we should be not only trade on crypto market but also in stocks market.

Trade altcoin will be promising higher profit, we can see alot of altcoin already going up to 100% -400% from the bottom but Bitcoin still stay in the bottom, in 2017 alot of altcoin the price was increase up to 50X to 100x in that year and this return is bigger than profit from BTC.

I believe the best thing as a trader is to trade that which you understand its movement, not its NAME. Everybody must not be an expert trading Bitcoin. For real, Bitcoin isn't even a best coin to give a great ROI. There are a lot of altcoins with great ROI. It's just that a lot of people trade Bitcoin because they feel it's a coin with a proven record of not being abandoned or disappearing. That's all.

First of all, short term or long term doesn't make a difference. If the coin is potential then it will rise no matter what the duration is. It might fall down but at the end it will surely rise.
According to me altcoins are good for short term trading while bitcoin is good for long term since it's volatility sometimes breaks bitcoins volatility.
I have seen coins going down in price in short term as well as long term and this proves that crypto market is really unpredictable.
The best thing to do would be to diversify your investment into potential coins so that if bitcoin doesn't rise but the altcoin does, then you at least get some profit rather than nothing.

Low volume coins can pay off if they have an active community with future updates.  I prefer to mostly stick with bitcoin but don't mind throwing a little bit at new projects.

Whale traders like to mess with these low cap coins because they are much easier to manipulate.  At this point it takes a lot of money to move the bitcoin price.  Why put all that effort in when they can make bigger profits with less capital?

Bitcoin is really gopd for holding in lomgterm because if that's other do last few years and now they are rich. But for now only few years only the life span of the bitcoin so I will choose more altcoins now compared to the bitcoin.  Ethereum is the best altcoins and better than bitcoin and good for longterm and we can make us rich too in the future when it become king of all cryptocoins.

I prefer to trade with Bitcoin both in the long term and in the short term. Of course, I also trade in other options from time to time on a daily basis, but in a possible situation, I certainly do not neglect to convert these alternatives to Bitcoin at all costs. On the other hand, staying at Bitcoin, which I have determined as my main currency at the end of the day, is an advantage for me. Although I am on the basis of the minus the amount of the main currency in USD, I have already doubled my main money on Bitcoin basis.

I think it will depend on you. If you think that it's too difficult to make a profit from bitcoin, then you can choose altcoin to trade. We have many chances to earn more bitcoin from trading, and gladly, we have altcoin which can help us to earn more bitcoin. That is what I did so far if I get stuck in trading bitcoin, I move to the altcoin, and I see that the altcoin still promising for me to make a profit.

Although, the gain is small, bitcoin day trading is a safe option out there compared to other altcoins. But, you have to take chance with the amount of funds you can afford to lose, if you want to earn big profits.

You will not find the profit generated from bitcoin in the short term if the funds owned are few, the fluctuations in bitcoin in these months are only 0% - 3%, that fee has not been taken from the platform. Some of my understanding is in contrast to what you are trying to ask, especially bitcoin for the short term. The market is very difficult to guess the results, especially the information that people get may be different, so the altcoin for the long term might be good for others not for you, stellar used to be the main view of traders but now slowly dimmed.

I don't want to say that day trading with bitcoin is a safe option because if we cannot analyze where is the trend of bitcoin in the next hours or days, we could not make a profit, and it's happening with altcoins too. I think the reason is that we want to make a big profit from many coins and if we can get it from altcoin, then why we trade in bitcoin only?

We need to check every possibility in the trading, whether it's bitcoin trade or altcoin trade so we can use it to make a profit again and again. And if we can get a chance to day trade with various coins and we are making a big profit, then it will give satisfaction to us because we are making a lot of money from trading.

But maybe, some person still feels comfortable to day trade with bitcoin only because they can make a big profit in one-time trade. But for the other people, they will try with altcoin and bitcoin because they know that they can make those profit too and even it will bigger than the previous people.

I think the clearest answer is the bigger risk and reward calculation. Bitcoin is something we all trust and it has a very reliable support behind it so when it goes up it goes up. However the smaller coins do not have that type of support and not known as much as bitcoin so when you consider investing into them you are taking a bigger risk than investing into bitcoin.

Yet, when you invest into bitcoin for example the ATH is about 6.5 away from today, whereas if you invest into ETH which is not even that small you have x10 increase from here to ATH (even more) if you take smaller coins there are ones that has x50 for all time high. Basically, the lower you get the higher risk you take but higher reward you could earn as well. So it all depends on how much risk and reward are you willing to test your money with.

to be able to make the price movement of bitcoin and can make the price of bitcoin again skyrocket again it is not as easy and not as simple as you think, bitcoin must have good news and there must be a good development so that the whales can be affected by rising bitcoin prices.

More investors will just be focusing into bitcoin cause they'll know that Bitcoin will only give assurance for them compared into altcoins. But of course, some altcoins will considered to be a good coins to trade also, only we need to be selective and choose the right coins cause mostly commonly the reason of losing are due to the wrong choose of coin.

In applying day trade we need to consider something, and the major things we need to look or check for is the volume of course. Its very hard to  make trade in the coins we have if they have a small volume in the actual trade. Then, the coins must be potential and has a good plan in the future too. Also, to buy coin that belongs to the top coins at the market is an advantage.

Excatly dude. You get a difference of just around a few hundred at best with btc's daily movement so profit would be scarce if you have less than 1 btc to trade with. Compared to other alts that could swing 10 to 20 percent in 24 hours. So if you're day trading, btc wouldn't really be one of your strategic choices.

The low price top cryptocurrencies are more profitable to trade with. If you are worried about low volume coins you could choose those with solid projects and with the potential to grow. Bitcoin is safer to trade with and also great for longterm trading.

I am not sure what you mean by "difficult" here because buying and selling can be done very easily through any exchange. If you are trying to say that the price of bitcoin is so high that its beyond your reach and I can understand and I do sympathize for you. Still you should know that you can buy in smaller fractions of bitcoin and prepare your funds that you are willing to risk in that fashion.

However if you are feeling good trading an altcoin because they are lower priced and easier to get into and then easily trad-able and profitable by daily swings in price then more power to you. :)

Most altcoins even profit traders this period more than Bitcoin because they market must fluctuate several times a day and that is where many altcoins traders get there profit from either true single trade or scalping and hardly will you see bitcoin fluctuate that much in a day.

All the above, one funny thing about trading that a lot of good traders even makes money more on these shitcoins, so like you said, altcoins are great to trade.

I think that you can make some money in the coin whose market price fluctuates regularly and Altcoins look like are the coins having that property. Bitcoin tale time to gain value and when it comes to quick money, better choose altcoin.

Most preferably ETH or Litecoin. But short term profits are short and one should also focus on the long term benefits which always tend to be bigger.

Just because an altcoin looks interesting does not mean its worth putting your money in. Where does the interest come from? Take every whitepaper and roadmap prepared with a large punch of salt (LOL).

Not only are they always misleading into investors trusting them but they will change them from time to time for their own benefit or delay releases just for the sake of it. If interest is coming from the price pump be very careful what coin you are jumping into because transient pump and dump are normally happening in every coin and they might wash you down during the dump.

Pumps and getting 100x-1000x possible profits is the main thing why most people do put money into these projects.Only a few do trust up on them when
it comes to longer prospects.

As an investor if you can able to risk your money to diversify out by either investing on ICO or directly trading them when it is already on exchangers. Its worthy but be careful on what you are dealing

I have traded many altcoins so far and I can tell you it is easier to manipulate and control the altcoins with little amount of capital. I have made over a thousand dollars in the past 3 weeks just from a single coin because I knew what the range for that coin was and I just bought from bottom I can and sold from highest I can and it moved between those numbers 4 or 5 times already.

You can't really do that with bitcoin, I mean you can try and there are certainly people who have done it already but I do not think that is easy, it requires a lot of capital and a lot of power to pull off, however on altcoins it is quite easy to achieve. That's why people trade altcoins daily, because they can, everyone finds a corner of the market they feel comfortable with and play there.

I really depend on what you are looking for. If you are looking for profit purely in cryptocurrency, you could also think about ethereum in this regard. Bitcoin is often slow and day trading in Bitcoin could not be very profitable.

I think that Bitcoin is more profitable in long term hodl and which in other words mean long term trading in Bitcoin is more profitable than day trading in bitcoins and since you are looking for profits, better keep an eye on the traditional market opportunities that are often very profitable.

The challenge I usually have with altcoins is that it is very difficult to tell when it has bottom,  especially when it is a coin you didn’t follow up on from the ICO, if it is one that you bumped into while deciding on which altcoins to invest in, it is quite very difficult, what I just do now that has been working for me is to look out for new ICOS and invest in them when they are just entering an exchange,  though I still do study the project carefully before doing that, at least I know most of ICO that enters exchanges newly will eventually get a pump in price before crashing.

Yes, we need to stay out of  trading during bear market, but when it comes to long-term investment, bear market is the best for any investor to stay in the market and for trading, we have lots of trader that are also taking advantage of the bear market because it is this period that a lot of shitcoins  gets pumped and dumped, and some pumping can go as high as giving 1500% profit within a very short time than long-term holding would do, but I am still not against the opinion of those who does not have the mind to do so to stay out of the market completely.

Playing with shitcoins in a bear market is like gambling and a trade of luck.

Pumps and getting 100x-1000x possible profits is the main thing why most people do put money into these projects.Only a few do trust up on them when
it comes to longer prospects.
Again the problem with majority of crypto-enthusiasts is that they look for the easy profit and not the long term effects of a certain token in the crypto ecosystem or is that token actually having an effect in the system or it is just a money grab? Being less experienced about investing they tend to mistake these things quite largely.

Quote
As an investor if you can able to risk your money to diversify out by either investing on ICO or directly trading them when it is already on exchangers. Its worthy but be careful on what you are dealing
because not all tokens do pump.
Hate to say this but several coins end up being pumps and dumps if not continuously but transiently they are like that. We have tried to keep away from such coins and I hope the new players entering the market will do so in future too.

When comes to day trade it will need a cute investment and huge profit in quick period of time so it can be given from the Bitcoin only because The Other investment will not be probably a good investment in the day trading option.

If you are a beginner, then you do not need to trade anything except bitcoin. Experienced traders can determine the perspective of some coins and make trades with them because some altcoins look quite interesting in the long or medium term.
There are good markets which have huge volume such as usdt and ETH which have a lot of pair in altcoins. I think it's good not to just stay in the market specially during bear market.
iit's true that besides trading Bitcoin I also trade ethereum and other atcoins because it's good enough to get results other than bitcoin and the results also promise if in my opinion

What do you mean by "Cute" investment? ;D

I can make out what you mean by huge profit in a quick period of time - but honestly this does not happen in reality much frequently. Trading is not that simple that you just come in make some quick huge cash and get out safely. It has a lot of hurdles and seems like you are not aware of those yet. You concept of dividing money into long term trading and day trading is good but most people perfer to do one of the two although its not uncommon to get both.

Bitcoin dictates where the market goes.
my opinion is if a person doing a trading he will need the money every day on the profit also was important for him so he need to day trade every time and get the profit again and again then only the income is convenient at the end in a month so I think it depends on every person who are in different situation.

All depends on the needs and what is needed, I do two trading options and what I do by trading bitcoin for the long term and trading weekly with altcoins like Ethereum or other coins depending on the market situation.
but it doesn't depend on what is planned and what I do is when I think it's profitable I will sell it because I need a short income to meet my needs from weekly trading and bitcoin trading just to get big profits and everything returns to the market situation, strategy people vary depending on their expertise and needs.

There's a whole lot of reasons as why you shouldn't day trade btc. Bigger volume but less movement compared to other alts.  Before btc moved up by almost 1k yesterday, it was moving sleepily sideways. Not really the perfect situation if you're going to day trade since your entry point would almost be the same as your selling point. It would be such a waste of time.

Trading with bitcoins means shorting bitcoins, you sell your BTC into fiat or a stable coin, and then you buy back your Bitcoins when the price of bitcoins has fallen!
I did make a few small trades like that in 2018, but generally, I'm too afraid of losing a large portion of my bitcoins into a sudden overnight bull run, so I try only to trade with altcoins.

Based from my experience, I only limit my trading to Bitcoin and ETH as they are both included at the top 5 cryptocurrencies for investing/trading. You should base your decision depending on the volume of each coin. The higher the volume, the higher the liquidity and exchange.

Like what most people mentioned, the higher the risks the better the reward. But never forget the number essential rules in trading:
Set a limit on your maximum allowable money for trading; never be greedy; have self-discipline before engaging; and never go all-out UNLESS you are confident enough (backed with technical analysis and research) that the price will increase.

When comes to day trade it will need a cute investment and huge profit in quick period of time so it can be given from the Bitcoin only because The Other investment will not be probably a good investment in the day trading option.

There are altcoins that have potential to be profitable but they are mostly focused for long-term trading. Day trading is only suitable for highly volatile coins like bitcoin since its price may skyrocket without any given notice, unlike most alternate coins.

There is no better pair to trade than BTC/USD, and this is the best time right now while the market is in uptrend. ETH is possible paired with USD but only because the market is also in the good condition other than that you can't just trust any other coins. And I would jsut add do it binance too.

That's the key process with gambling, but this won't happen throughout. At times the market fluctuation completely differs and go away from the prediction. When this happens in the day trade the loss is big and users find it hard to overcome. Even it is hard with altcoins as well, because we don't know which coin is gonna grow within specific time frame. In long term observation with long term holding can get the best out of the same.

Neither with Bitcoin or some top altcoins would really be capable when it comes to day trade. It would really just matter on how you deal with it.Shorting and
Swing trades can really be done.Risk is high though compared on longer orders but chances on making profits is high yet these are indeed volatile since they are mostly
being traded. If you are afraid to lose money then day trade wont really be for you.

Alts are more volatile than BTC which can work both to your advantage and to your disadvantage. I typically do not trade with very low-volume coins or very new coins as trading such coins and tokens is more risky than trading older and higher-volume coins IMO, but there's also more profit to potentially be had in them. BTC also does not seem to be completely leading the way out of the $3000s doldrums, with alts like LTC seeing signfiicantly more percentage gains in the last month and week.

Bitcoin is essentially the most interesting crypto, so many people trade Bitcoin.
With so many platforms that support Bitcoin, it is also a plus and Bitcoin is also used as a pair of trades that exist on each exchange.
so in my opinion that Bitcoin has a lot of facilities so Bitcoin is much easier to trade than other coins.

Maybe my only reason is day trading with bitcoin usually take longer time because bitcoin price move slowly, even it is fast but not much spread. If in alt, if that altcoin have a lot of volume trading, it can mov with spread that can we used to take profit from it. So it is fit for daily trading.

Yes, because there's  like Eth or eos that  has a lot of user that isi very actively traded in the market. Eth is always the go to when investors want to participate in ICo so if there's a huge oppotunity in an ICO, there's a lot of ETh that is going to be bought. And like Eos and tron, they are very popular in gambling.

imo bitcoin is actually a bad medium for doing day trade or  trading  due to its higher value   . you can only buy smaller amounts because its expensive and you can only earn small amounts of profit because you buy them at a high price and whats worst is that you can loose big when the value dumps  . imo bitcoin is only good for a currency use ( ex. for buying , paying )   . while altcoins on the other hand are the one that is suitable for  trading purposes because they are smaller/lighter  . they are inexpensive  , you can buy them anytime of day   . you wont regret if you loose because you will only loose small .

I mostly depend on Bitcoin because that is the only coin that you can use your technical analysis to predict its price accurately and any trade you go into without basing it on technical analysis will just be a guess work.

Don’t get me wrong, ETH and LTC are okay and they are performing well in their own space and also meeting up to the reason why they were establish but it is not so easy to really analyze them and also, the volatility of a coin is what can make one to have a huge profit on one’s investment which these two coins are not as volatile as much as BTC is, but all still depends on the one that makes the trader more comfortable.

You may not have reasons to trade other altcoins but some of us have reasons not to trade only bitcoin , reasons such as paucity of funds etc.
If I don't have $4k+ to buy bitcoin ,then the only alternative is trading other altcoins.
Again , it will not make logical sense for one who has the money for bitcoin to buy only one ....the more quantity the better the profit.

Day traders only take the advantage of little changes in pricing to make money from the market and it can be done every minute or hour.  Since other coins such as ripple, litecoin and ethereum provide this trading opportunity often I think we can trade them in the place of bitcoin.

Of course there is. Rising crypto prices are times that are fun for everyone, including you. You will feel happy when you see the crypto price that you hold increases in value. Or maybe, you will smile with satisfaction when the crypto value you are holding printed in an amazing nominal on the market cap.

Obviously some alts can have significantly bigger gains than bitcoin when it comes to long term and bull runs, the last bull run from 6k to 10k for example, sure bitcoin was strong, almost a 2x but some of the top alt coins did more than a 2x even 3x. However that's only long term.

However, wait a minute. Don't be complacent with that value because everything is just pseudo and ultimately it must re-take root in the main crypto, which is bitcoin.

It's also much easier to follow bitcoin because, well, the whole market follows bitcoin. Bitcoin dictates where the market goes.

Because, bitcoin's an indicator and a major pioneer for the growth and existence of all scattered cryptocurrency. Therefore, most crypto analysts use bitcoin more as a comparison material in discussing various forms of investment that exist today, and the topic of bitcoin, coincidence's one of the investments chosen by investors.

That is why as a pro trader, it is every paramount for them always make sure that their TA is very close to them for them to quickly read and see the direction of BTC price. Bitcoin is still the easiest coin to predict its price movement using technical analysis than other altcoins, provided the entry point is very good.

On the other hand, trading altcoins is not much of a good choice, an altcoins is only good to be traded at its early stage when it’s still new and fresh, buyers tend to lose interest in them the moment another altcoins comes out to compete against them and you know you need lots of price fluctuation to be able to trade successfully, which I think BTC is still the most volatile.

That is the only thing those coins are good for and that is why they get dumped easily, other than that, they are very useless project that are not even good for utility purpose. It is even difficult to use analysis to trade those coins except bitcoin.

It is better to focus on BTC trading and become perfect on it to make cool cash on a daily basis, than have a diverted attention over coins that are good for nothing and will not stand the test of time, the ration of the good ones among them are very little compared to the bad ones, since they are mixed and will be difficult to sample them out, the best is to stick with BTC alone which even gives better profits.

Short term trades is not bad at all.. You can still gain on it as long as you know the trading rules basic indicators reading charts and candlesticks... Follow the price actions and so on... Coz sometimes when bitcoin dump some alts really pump where you can scalp and trade for short time frame.. Atleast, even if the bitcoin is dump you can still gain profits from scalping.. Then just wait for bitcoin to pump again for bigger. Value..

But, bear in mind that Bitcoin has revived and it is high time to be part of it.

There are lots of potential altcoins that are good for day but I would still stick with bitcoin. As for me, the value of bitcoin is still reliable and is increasing each day where it simply means that we could gain better through it. However, we could do a simple study on what is better for day trading.

Finding those altcoins are not going to be easy so most of the people stick with btc and stable coin pair for day trading and they feels more secured when they doing with bitcoin.

It is true that Bitcoin is the mover of the crypto currency market no doubt but there are some altcoins that you will hold for a long time and you will end gain huge sum if money from your investment if the market move in your favor.

The only thing you will need to do is just to analyze the top 10 altcoins and spread your investment capital in all the one you think has a potential growth in the near future for is better to take risk than not take risk at all.

Those coins are good in day trading because they move faster than bitcoin. If you know how to do day trading you will know that bigger coins are not good coins to trade for so you have to look for other altcoins that can give you a day profit. I sugget not to do day trading with bitcoin at all, because it is good for long term trading.
Can you guys just an examples of the alternative crypto currency you guys are referring to that is good for day trade please? I think your point is contrary the opinion of the author of this thread which am very much in support of his submission and I have taken a stand in my submission above.

There are some shitcoins as well in the top 10 based on market value like XRP so would you suggest people to invest on that coin?

Top ranked marketcap valued coins are not going to give much profits in the day trading if you want to make huge then it might be hidden under 100.

When you only buy Bitcoin and keep it in wallet, it's a waste of time and money. When Bitcoin is used to invest in Altcoin, it is reasonable and you will have more money to buy Bitcoin and increase Bitcoin value than original.
Yeah trading is much better than just holding coins. Cause by this we can increase the amount of our coins that we are holding. But for this we must need to be careful.

I would not have second though in bitcoin even if it becomes more difficult to trade with, because we will surely get to that stage where the price movement will become very less, that is when we are completely operating the coin with less volatility, then it will be very good for store of value and payments of goods and services which it will be widely known for more then, it will later become a stable coin and will not give chance for more trades, just little trade the way Forex does not.

Less we forget, Bitcoin was created as a utility coin, the profit we get are just path of the starting benefit, same as altcoins, the only difference is that altcoins might fade away in the long-term, while btc will always remain.

Not exactly correct. If you are accepting some bullshit propaganda of some shitcoin then you will also think in the same manner. But the truth is that only bitcoin is what people need to hodl. Rest all are shitcoins. If you want to make money then bitcoin itself is worth selling and buying back. But this needs trading skills and for newbies it might seen tough and they may have the opinion that trading bitcoin wont give them anything much so they should trade altcoins - absolutely wrong concept.

Not certainly, it's still depends on a trader and the market situation. For example if the market is bullish, then the best thing to do is to do nothing but to hold until it reaches its resistance. There's no guarantee to increase the amount of someone's coins in trading; it's somehoe difficult to deal with because many aspects are affecting it.

Beside a lot of aspect, there is a lot of thing to research when someone want to do trading. But it is fun when we analyze especially when we trade in high volume coin that still pumped. Our adrenaline can pumped too and it is what make any reason why we should do trade any altcoin other than bitcoin like in title of thread.

because if we trade in coins other than bitcoin we can earn two times more than trading bitcoin and other coins. so my reason besides trading bitcoin is that is my reason

that.
higher risk / higher reward

check even the big caps like ETH on 2017 bull run, the movements were bigger.
with low caps it's even bigger, you're not making 10-20x with bitcoin in a year anymore... I mean, maybe you will, but it can be even more with alts.

ETH and Bitcoin both are very famous and popular coin, big investors always choose these type of coins, and in 2017 ETH break the record, but now we have come in this stage where all coins are down, including ETH and bitcoin. So what coins do you trade? Trading coins other than bitcoin might give us good results once or twice but the question is, can trading with such coins give us repeated opportunities to get good profits? From my own view, there are some coins which are pumped once or twice and then the price drops deeply and never rises significantly again. While with bitcoin where fluctuations have been tested, the opportunity to collect profits, although not so large, does exist. Bitcoin prices can fluctuate in a good range almost every day.

Day trading is an optional choice to do if we had a holdings which is a good asset. Although btc and eth was a trusted coins for a long time, we still have more chance to earn higher profit from other crypto coins. Seeking a good alternative for day trading is a very wise idea these days, but we have to be careful in doing it because not all coin platforms is good to trade. Sometimes you're going to fall after buying thus you thought nice, and in the long run frustrates you when price goes down drastically in the market exchanges.

Exactly,,, remember, this is after all a market for big speculation. People still will not forget that while Bitcoin x20, altcoins made people x100 or even x1000 in the same period of time. Alts are easier to pump, far, far easier,,, and people liked that a lot about them. Alts were also easier to buy (with Bitcoin) unlike BTC which you have to buy with fiat. So if you already have BTC, you can make all kinds of alt trades without putting in more money of your own.

It all channels down to the volume at a specific time. Some of the alt coins at some point in time have considerable volume and factors moving the market which mskes them an option to consider when day trading.

As long as we are not making a mistake, we could make a bigger profit from the altcoin because we know that altcoin has a big chance to get increase first and then Bitcoin. But when bitcoin increase, then you can sell your bitcoin from selling altcoin before so you will have a lot of money in the end.

The reason to make day trade is various for each people but one thing that we should know that we want to collect more and more bitcoin so we could sell the bitcoin at the highest price.

I think the answer to your question is rather subjective. Day trading might work for savvy traders who really take time to do their research before investing; investing in alts which do not have the same a secured platform compared to bitcoin is definitely much riskier due to its volatility. For some or possibly most people, however, they always find ways to mitigate the risks by investing long term with the more stable bitcoin. The minute they feel the market gets shaky, they can always pull out their investments with a relatively smaller loss and invest again during a significant dip.

The main intention of day trading is to make money so in traders will accept the profits from trading any cryptos not just only with bitcoin but it is highly risky as well so who are ready to take any kind of risk has the options to go with altcoins.

Yes, there are hundreds of altcoins but more than a half of them were just nothing to gain.
For the safe trade, Bitcoin will be the best option but we will not need to decline some leading coins that is potentially profitable also. Belong to the top 10 coins in the market will be considered for another option aside from Bitcoin.

You are absolutely right, the bitcoin is what dictates the market. All Altcoins depend on Bitcoin, either directly or indirectly, this is due to the number of operations that are generated every day.

Stellar represents an altcoin that also depends a lot on the Bitcoin market, and it is logical, because whenever there is a price fall, Stellar goes down, like all altcoins, so it is very difficult for an altcoin to have a life of its own without relying on bitcoin . For this reason Bitcoin will always be the number 1, the only way that any currency can compete is that it has some kind of support and liquidity, while the market continues as it goes, can hardly dethrone Bitcoin.

Well this is your own choice and that you are trading with so many coins and some of them are bitcoin but for me it is not good and actually there is no reason for me to trade with any other coin, bitcoin is the best choice for now, we can gain huge profit from it, I feel safe while trading with bitcoin is never think about changing my coin.

Why don't you try ETh or  BNB? There's a lot of coins spiking up everwhere and you just need to take a closer look at every each of them. They are not just recovering but the team behind these projects are also releasing good progress of their product at the same time to increase the price a bit more.

Always better to trade with high volumes since its more active, though most of those coins are just a fake volume so try to trade with a good coins. I also do long term trading because day trade is not good for me, bitcoin is not a reason to do day trading since its not moving much. Do your day trading because you can, not just you want to.

Well this also depends on how long have you been holding your Bitcoin. I think that Bitcoin is not something that will give you some 10x profits in a month or so. The market had been very slow these days and you need to be patient for some good profits. There are other coins which grow faster that Bitcoin but since the marketcap of Bitcoin is quite high, a surge or two would be enough to double the value of your investment.

Day trading is suicidal as per many trader's experiences. Still, we are seeing many people are trying to learn and practice it through various topics here in this forum itself. I am not at all interested in day trading but I am trading bitcoins and that too long term holding basis not even short term basis.

You should try day trading the altcoins from top 10 below because they are more flexible and more vulnerable to high fluctuations of price and that means a more room for you to make profit from day to day basis. Day trading is a very risky way to make money but if you are a master of technical analysis then i don't think that you need to worry about losing a lot of money.

Whales will have huge problems getting in and out of their positions if they tried to trade coins with low volume, so they do not really have any option but to stick with coins like bitcoin and ethereum, but for those like us with a small amount of money we can safely trade those alts, as long a we know what we are doing, but when you see that bitcoin can easily get you huge profits in just a few weeks like what we are seeing now I really wonder why should I bother with most altcoins anyway?

I do agree with you and to me this all depends on the type of traders we are.  It will be very difficult for us to trade bitcoin and making consistently profits talk more of other coins but if you have understanding on how the market work you can actually makes money from any of the coins listed in exchange platforms.  You just need to have the strategies and experience on how day trade work in other to take advantage of the up and down of the market.  It is good we understand all the altcoins and there market behavior as this is the only way we can know when to take little profits as there get dump and pump of those coins daily.

I think day trading is good but long term trading is more than this, for day trading we will have to gain enough knowledge and information, those who can make good analization of the market can get good profit from day trading as for day trading we will have to remain active day and night in the market so we can check current market price graph.

trading is looking for profit, and analyzing potential coins is better than losing a moment or getting stuck.

It's also much easier to follow bitcoin because, well, the whole market follows bitcoin. Bitcoin dictates where the market goes.
Not all the time, just like now, did alts followed Bitcoin? Alts just dump hard when BTC pumped.
It's really different for me to trade bitcoin and alts (especially when bull season). I do believe that when the price of bitcoin will become stable again, probably that the alts will follow also.
As you can see now, after how many hours/days when BTC pumps and alts dump and BTC still dumping, suddenly the alts are pumping (This kind of scenario I noticed on since last year)

Pwrsonally I don't see any other coins that are worth daily trading besides Bitcoin. Also, day trading is very demanding, it requests a lot of experiences and knowledge and your full attention to the market so it would be very hard to follow this for multiple coins. But maybe there are some successful traders who could manage that also.

If you are day trading then it is a good idea to try to monitor more coins than just bitcoin since the more markets you watch the more opportunities you are going to have to make money, but you are right, the more markets you are watching the harder day trading becomes, but you do not need to watch hundreds of coins at the same time, as long as you can watch 3 or 4 coins at the same time then you will have plenty of opportunities to multiply your capital.

This is where a smart trader takes advantage age, from what you said, you will see that both always go opposite direction which I agree with you, so Bitcoin and altcoins both have different season, we just need to learn how to adapt and take advantage of both seasons.

Probably we trade bitcoin during its own run and once BTC start its own bull run, we enter trades because that is when the market becomes much volatile and when Bitcoin is about to stop the bull run, then we should automatically know that it is time to trade altcoins. We have to study how to control the market and not the market always controlling us.

I think the same, I like to trade with bitcoin and ETH because for me both of them are really good coins to trade for day, as price rises faster in day trading, it has more potential and it is first crypto currency, we will see progress even more with passage of time, trading is the beneficial only with bitcoin not any other coin.

Is it not strange that after the altcoins bled out the general concept changed from being alt enthusiast to bitcoin maximalists? Its nice to see people change like this and it also brings out the level of hypocrisy that some people have.

Obviously some day traders will be able to make money from trading alts. But know this as well, majority of day traders actually make money by selling their memberships to personal pump and dump groups rather than actually trade. They give their own picks which are again pumped up coins where they are going to dump on their members when they go after that pick and buy it to a huge price.

Personally I'm doing day trade for who has high volume transaction and great news about it.
But both of trading like stock and crypto has high risk on them so you should done it with extra careful.

I'm better trade crypto for long term rather than short term because I've experience it myself
It gives a smaller risk right? trading is not just about bitcoin and fiat. You have many other options too, like Altcoin with bitcoin, the risk might be much bigger but the benefits might be much bigger too, there are times when you have to get out of your comfort zone

I'm sure that there are lots of alts better suited for intra day trade as well. So not only bitcoin but most altcoins are really prime for day trading. That is if you are able to ride the waves early.

I saw one coin being pump 2 consecutive days, ICO price was $.5 then it went as high as $5. But now its hovering around $1.5-$2.0. Still not bad though specially for investors, x4 of your investments in this bear market? I will take it anytime of the day.

I do not think there is just Bitcoin out there in the market that can make or generate value in the market. ETH and Litecoin are good as well. There is a long list of good coins but if you do the relative analysis, you would realize that Bitcoin on the average gives more profit than others do so yeah Bitcoin is relatively good. But investing in a wide range of coins really makes you able to cash the profits due to diversification.

Day trading is a time-eating activity. Only those fellows, who take trading as their main job, can do it. besides, you can work here mostly with the tokens that have a lower rating as their prices change more often.

Many traders want contradictory things, they want to obtain great profits in a short amount of time and they want to do it by avoiding risk as much as possible and that is not going to happen, the more volatile a market the better profits you can get, this is a known fact but you can also lose a lot of money if you invest in those markets, so the only ones that should invest in them are experimented traders with a strategy they have tested and that they know it works.

Yes. Bitcoin and ethereum are still my good choices for trading cryptos because these two have good start already that we can really make huge profits especially if we hold them for long years. There may be a lot of altcoins out there but only few of then will sure to pump and the rest of them have only become shitcoins.

These have high liquidity market as well the increased trading volume which is a must with the day trading. Bitcoin is all about the independence, We cannot predict the growth upon any of the factors. The market will move sideways, uptrend, down trend or move gradually in no time. Having a scheduled observation will get good return with day trading.

Bitcoin is a more reliable investment and has a higher capitalization, but compared to many other cryptocurrencies, it is less likely to grow 10-20 times in the next few years

But do not you think that that the money by playing like that would be too little as compared to what you could make with Bitcoin in this volatile market? This is very important to do your cost and benefit analysis. There would be no doubt instant gain of value if you sell TRX to gain quick profits but I think that holding your Bitcoin in a market condition like this will pay off a lot because you could make far more in Bitcoin than in TRX.

Bitcoin is undoubtedly the king of the market. And absolutely the entire crypto market at the moment depends only on him. But this is not an argument in favor of trading only it. On altcoins, you can occasionally earn very well. Only long-term trading is not the only profitable. You can successfully trade altcoins daily or middle term. Just watch the market situation. For the entire long bear market, altcoins trading mainly brought me a steady profit.

My reason because i only have a small capital, then better to trade an Altenative Currency. Bitcoin and other major coin already make a high roi from their ICO. so using Alt for trading was the best option for me.
Well I absolutely second this statement. Those who have got low money and they can’t manage to get big capital, better for them to reach out to altcoins. They are low and very cheap in prices for this specific time period. These people can earn extraordinary from this low budget as well. But again, bitcoin always have a high edge over others. If you can even arrange something so do make it to bitcoin. Bitcoin is low as well, this would be a better opportunity.

Depending on your capital and style I guess .. if you can give advice you can check XBX in coinmarketcap. Where there will be the latest updates that will affect price increases and trading activities which are quite profitable if you want to take a 5% profit for the short term but all depends on your beliefs.

Yaah, even I would agree with the fact that for small capital traders, alts are the best to trade. BTC is good, but the amount of profit will be less and the loss will be more. Whereas if we can crack a good trade with alts, the profit can be quite high.

Though I prefer both the alts and BTC, because Bitcoin has more traders and even if the earning is slow or less, there is a chance of earning. But in case of alts, the new incoming alts have disappointed many a time.

I've seen some of the altcoins going above 100x which is going much profitable then bitcoins but the matter of risk is always high in such altcoins. There are a thousands of coins in the markets and at least some of them might be having high potential to hit the markets and go to the moon but such altcoins might be difficult to identify.

We can find some coin with a backed running product which has an rising demand as we can be satisfied over there that the price for that coin will go in a ascending manner as the demand for their backed product will keep on rising. Investing into lower volume coins can also give bigger profits once they have higher price because the amount of peoples invested into that coin would be much limited.

Such kind of short term profits are not usually guaranteed. There always remains the risk factor constant where the big whales holding that coins may sell of their coins which will lead to a downer price. These kind of risks are been tried by me and the amount of loss was higher than my profits. There really needs to be a lot of things to learn before starting day trading.

Day trading also requires a lot of time so that we can speculate each single minute graph and find a suitable peak to sell our coins. Day trading may even give good profits but if the price does not increase in short term then rather than selling those coins, you should continue holding that coin until the price hits the high peak.

This is the main reason why traders look for other markets, the market of bitcoin offers huge volatility compared to more traditional markets, it has significant volume and it is the best cryptocurrency in the market, so I can understand why many feel there is no need to trade anything else, but when you consider there are coins that can give 100% profits in a single day then it becomes easier to understand why many traders choose to trade an alt that is relatively unknown to the world.

I am not sure if trading everyday you can get profits just like that. You must be having some sort of a delusion or you are just bluffing. Unless you are leverage trading like on Shitmex you wont be getting profits that are worth amassing for a decent amount. Still margin trading is time consuming and takes a lot of attention from the trader, so I doubt that you are into it because you have time to visit this forum as well and post everyday.

Bitcoin as a reliable investment - most traders dont take that perspective. They prefer it as a more volatile asset worth speculating on. Reliability is not the term to be used there.

I think you are right in terms of reliability of Bitcoin as a good asset to invest in for traders. In a market, where speculators could make big money with Bitcoin because it is volatile, traders could also trade it for big gains but yeah, the risk factor is again there. So if a trader is too curious about his investment in Bitcoin, he got reason to look for other coins as well.

Anyway, altcoin is just another option we have and giving trust to them might be a big risk we face.

I agree with you other altcoins are following bitcoin but it is much better if you trade with bitcoin because it has no limit price it rises and makes us even more than milliner if we trade it well in a knowledgeable manner, it makes 100 percent profit if we buy at low price and sell at high price, trading is all about profit with bitcoin so I am not interested in any other altcoins.

So if a trader is too curious about his investment in Bitcoin, he got reason to look for other coins as well.
Maybe they have a reason but that reason only stays for a short period of time. I am yet to see some shitcoin about to do something that changes the financial system something that bitcoin was capable of doing. None of them have done any such things and most just piggyback on bitcoin's bull runs to start their own bull trends - this is only visible when the bear market starts and leads to altcoins bleeding out.

Most of the altcoins are just money making schemes for the developers of that coins and not the investors. Get that fact in your head now. But greed on part of the investor will make them invest in these shitcoins so these words make little sense to them.

I do daily trading of several altcoins at a cheaper price, the reason is, because they experience rapid volatility compared to bitcoin, then with the difference in the purchase and sale prices of small ones I can get more profit because the number of tokens that I have is more many.

that is some reason I choose other coins in trading daily compared to choosing bitcoin.
it would be better if bitcoin is rewarded for long-term investment. because usually if bullish happens then the bitcoin price will be fantastic.

Really fantastic as of today but altcoins seems to be at slow and only known coins are kicking right now.
It will be preferred to have Bitcoins for me in trading than of altcoins cause of its price fluctuations, the more it goes like that, the more chances we got good profit from it.
Anyway, altcoin is just another option we have and giving trust to them might be a big risk we face.
bitcoin is very appropriate if used as a form of long-term investment, but if market price movements increase, there is no harm if we can sell it to get a little profit rather than having to wait long but not have the target to be obtained. all types of investment in cryptocurrency certainly have a very big risk, investment in bitcoin and altcoin both have risks that we have to face, but from a large risk it can certainly provide greater benefits for its users.

Crypto trading does not have to be bitcoin, because there are many opportunities in altcoins where the level of stability is better and the price is cheaper. Even for professionals who trade every day prefer altcoin.
Unlike long-term investors who are more static in managing their money, they naturally prefer bitcoin HODL because the increase can be double the capital. This type of investor is of course very large in capital.

This is what I have notice also therefore instead of trading or holding bitcoin for a long term, I invest in other currencies that has the potential to x10 in the end of the bull run.

One of the currencies that I choose aside from bitcoin is Ethereum, the bottom of Eth last time is 80$ and bitcoin is 3k$. If you are going to compare the two base on the current price right now. Eth is already 245$ and bitcoin is 7877$, if you will compare the two then you can notice that eth has x3 already while bitcoin haven't reach the x3 price yet. But still, any of them will give you a good amount of profit especially in bull run season.

Bitcoin of course in the portfolio should be more, but you need to distribute your capital on other promising projects, for example, within two days only such a cryptocurrency as WPR gave 100% growth, the products of other startups are beginning to be used, the developers are serious about their business

Long term as you say, nothing wins against Bitcoin,,, but yeah if you are a speculator than there is only alts. Bitcoin is still for speculators too in fact, but perhaps 10% and 15% gains in a week are not enough for some. Alts on the other hand do like ETH, 3x in a few months.

But not all alts have liquidity. Some have great prices but the minute you sell them on the market price crashes. Not enough listings. So apart from big alts, very little reason to speculate on below top 20.

When bitcoin has already stable at one range of the price, the altcoin will replace the moment, and many of the altcoins will increase. That will be the best time to do day trading with the altcoin, and I am sure that we can make a nice profit. But still, be careful to choose the coins because not all altcoin will have a good move in the market because they need more support to increase the price.

Maybe altcoins could be more profitable but it's very hard to find an altcoin that is worth trading. Also you have to spend a lot of time and efforts to make proper analysis of altcoin market and watch this market all the time to make the right decision. To my opinion too much exhausting time for not so great result so it's better to choose Bitcoin.

In my own perspective, it is good to have diverse investment. You can easily run if there is a trouble with your investment or you can go with the flow. Select only 3 cryptocurrencies so that you can observe its entire data. Bitcoin is good but other altcoins have also better plans and development. So, try to divide your portfolio.

Only bitcoin is what I would suggest. The startups that you think are going to be big in future are actually going to be worthless. Thats how crypto market is these days once the ICO buzz ended down last year. Now people are looking for alternatives to make money. But truely these ICO teams ripped off money from many investors and they delivered nothing but fake promises. Even Patreon is better than this.

People need to realize that this market is full of this type of "legal scams". Nobody is going to be responsible for your money. Stop feeding koolaid crew coins and focus on bitcoin only.

And I agreed that day trade will give profit to anyone here in the forum and altcoins is the main reason for us to gain here a lot most of the time.

Bitcoin always lead the way but there are other coins that also profitable like the top coin in trading. When it come to long term holding, bitcoin and some strong altcoins like ethereum and xrp are good choices because they are already proven in the past. But many of the altcoins has already their ability to go up and create their own all-time high.  So I believe that there are valid reasons to trade in altcoins because some of them are also profifable like bitcoin.

It seems to me that under the current conditions in the foreign exchange market it is very difficult to trade in other cryptocurrency assets, except ethereum and Bitcoin.  Perhaps there are still some coins, but according to the degree of their volatility, the risk also increases.  Most likely today only professionals work in this field of activity.

Only bitcoin is what is important. Rest are all having flaws that can make your money disappear like dust or locked up in such conditions that you will be unable to get them back or fall in trouble trying to get them back. XRP is a pure shitcoin at its best. Centralized coin that is controlled by banks. Use it at your own risk.

I wont say they are as profitable as bitcoin. If you are someone who can handle the pressure of having to hold something when it is at 200% loss till it goes back up crossing the break even line then you are should be my guest investing in it.

I've (unfortunately) spent my time in 2016/17 looking at AI solutions/deep learning/NLP/machine algorithms etc trying to flip money doing alt trades or even Bitcoin, for that matter.

Problem with all these was their timing, running up to the great bull of 2017. Any fool and AI could make money day trading, the volatility was incredible then.

I don't know a single one that consistently made profits once the entire market started flailing. And then, when Bitcoin entered its sideways mode, alts did even worse. And if you're looking for swings the way day traders do, you'll appreciate that btc/usd has far more opportunities even today than btc/alts.

The fastest loss is also in altcoin. Its a higher risk zone investment if you ask me. While that may seem exciting for you but it is not so for the rest of the members of this forum who dont have a huge stashes of money to spend. What they prefer is to invest in something that can give you a decent profit in the long term and wont go down in a few months. For them bitcoin is obviously the better choice.

-snip-
Stop shilling your altcoins. Having a 200% gain in a short time is a sign of a pump and incoming dump. So take caution before buying those coins.

Honestly we are seeing a good price pump in the market this month. Bitcoin touched 11k USD once more and the bulls seemed to have gained the upper hand for now. I am sure many people are happy that they got their sell orders at these levels seen through so they have some money at hand ready to put back in the market. The bears are obviously not happy and are going around shilling their own shitcoins which piggyback the rise of bitcoin.

Next up we should be going up to 15k soon, so hold on to your belts folks! I am personally hoping a small dump before that as well. So that should be a good time to buy some bitcoin as well unless it continues upward.

Bitcoin is a more reliable investment and has a higher capitalization, but compared to many other cryptocurrencies, it is less likely to grow 10-20 times in the next few years

Yes, sure, but the question was about day trading. There is a lot of conflicting information about these strategies with cryptocurrencies. People can also use different of them, some of which are meaningless. You will meet “experts” who advise you to choose altcoins with minimal volatility. However, since volatility is a friend of the day trader, such advice is contrary to common sense.

Day traders usually use at least 5-7 pairs, and Bitcoin is not always the best choice for this business. Everything depends on the chosen strategy. The first step to do here is to create a portfolio, filling it with the "right" tokens that can be good pairs potentially. Further, the exchanges should be chosen (and not one as some guys offer here). Pick at least 3 exchanges to deal with.

It is like how to survive, people usually have their own strategy. As long we can manage profit and can manage our trading activity, day trading, or long term trading is not a serious problem. But it is true if day trading with bitcoin sometime not good thing to do because bitcoin price move slower and sometime it is only a little percent. So for day trading will need big capital of money.

No. Bitcoin traders are those understand the risks associated with bitcoin and the possible sources of price reduction or gain. They are more veteran of the traders and most of the time have been those disgruntled by the problems with different altcoins which have promised something but failed to deliver it. Most altcoins are more attractive to the newbie traders trying to get lucky. Trading altcoins, you need to be a very vigilant trader and time aware.

You never know when the pump or dump is going to end and when the project owners are going to sell out their tokens. This is also the reason why altcoin projects fail to deliver anything at all useful and is the source of dissent among the community.

That's why in my opinion altcoins are the most interesting coins to trade. The industry (altcoin industry) is so unpredictable that if you're at the right place at the right time and make the right decision you can profit massively than trading bitcoin. Trading bitcoin isn't that profitable with small capital like altcoins although you have to pick the correct period to engaging in trading them.

The current market period doesn't encourage Altcoin trading neither does it encourage investing in any random project out there. We're in the season of bitcoin trading, while holding your altcoins with hopes of future price increase. Very soon the bitcoin market will experience mostly uptrend as we build toward the halving of block reward incident then trading will become less profitable compared to holding.

Most altcoins are more attractive to the newbie traders trying to get lucky. Trading altcoins, you need to be a very vigilant trader and time aware.

You never know when the pump or dump is going to end and when the project owners are going to sell out their tokens.

Generally, altcoins were in major downtrend since 2017. It will be very difficult to predict its time to move up again. It is possible to gain 100% in several days but it it doesn't mean you are in profit because most altcoins dropped not just 100% but 1000% or even higher.

Trading bitcoin with a minimum capital can still profit big my margin trading. There are multipliers even reaching x100 in Bitmex. While this leverage trading is risky, I cannot see any big difference when trading with altcoins.

Those are lot of ifs don't you think? It is true your profits can be many times better than what you can get by trading bitcoin but you are basically relying on your luck by trying to trade the right coin at the right time, but the issue with such a strategy is that you will never know when it is the right time and if the market takes too long to become favourable then there is a serious chance you will lose your money before you can see the growth that you were expecting.

Well, I prefer to trade ethereum swap contract. I trade both bitcoin and ethereum daily. But you know, I understand ethereum more than bitcoin and there is enough volatility and liquidity for me.
I've tried to trade xrp and it is ok for day trading. There are different patterns and when BTC is fluctuating eth and xrp can show positive trend

I think it depends on your capital mostly, for small capital traders it is better to trade altcoins. Just choose those alts that have high volume and those exchanges that do not manipulate volume, for example binance. Of course btc and eth is the best choice to trade, it can make you a huge profit, but you should be able to wait patiently for weeks, months, or even years.

I believe that bitcoin is the best coin in the crypto world. but I suggest trading with altcoin too and not holding just one coin.
I have several reasons to trade other than bitcoin. because in my opinion, when we do daily trading, the up and down movements of coin prices in the market are not dependent on just one coin. for example when bitcoin prices go down, some altcoins are experiencing an increase. so that when we can not sell sell coins when the coin has decreased in price, we can still sell other coins that we hold when experiencing price increases. with a strategy like that, in my opinion can turn a profit. so in my opinion as a trader, it doesn't hurt if we hold and trade with other than bitcoin.

in my opinion, when we are able to make a profit from crypto, it's better we don't just trade with just one type of coin. indeed in trading altcoin has more risk, than the top 10 coins. but my reason for trading with other than bitcoin is because I feel that when the price of bitcoin is quite stable in some time and I cannot benefit from bitcoin, I can make a profit by buying altcoin and doing short-term trading. I feel that trading altcoin can also benefit, and my advice is if trading altcoin, try to trade daily, we must always look at market volume. and I prefer to trade more than one coin rather than just holding one coin.

Yes, we all know that Bitcoin is not as volatile as altcoins,  Altcoin tends to give more profit in a short term than bitcoin.  But one must make sure that the altcoin in question should  have enough volume so as to accommodate any dump and reduce chance of much loss. Another important thing to note is to make sure that if you must trade altcoin on day trade is to make sure that you trade altcoin that have good credibility score of which the team wont dump on you at the slightest chance

It is simple, if you want to make big profits then go trade altcoins that has smaller market capitalization because they have a bigger room to grow compare to the top cryptocurrencies in the market where their potential market capitalization is almost maximized. Trading bitcoin and other big cryptocurrencies is hard because you need higher skills and it will require more time since the big whales are also playing with you.
OP only looking for a day trade  , we know that you can earn much higher profit in altcoin but for day trade i will not concidered this one. the better way to say is to choose wisely what coin will you trade daily.

Yes, you are right. I have a friend who invests in altcoins way back year 2017 and that's even not a long term investment. It only takes around 2 weeks then he trades it and earns a big profit. His $5 turns into $1000 and it's a really big earning the reason why I do believe that you can earn more in altcoins rather than in bitcoin. But choosing potential coins is better to have, every decision you have made in trading is a very risky part. You should always do research when you are in trading and bitcoin is the best for long term holding.

I do trade altcoins. Yes we have number of best altcoins like Matic, One, BNB, ERD, COS and Ont. These are the altcoins i do have in my portforlio including BTC and ETH. I target 5 to 10% of profits and i get it in one or two days. Analyse and choose the best potential altcoin.

in my opinion there are several reasons to hold other than bitcoin. because I myself prefer to trade and hold more than one coin. but I disagree with your statement that says altcoind can have far greater benefits than bitcoin in the long run. I think holding Altcoin with a long-term strategy is actually more risky than holding Bitcoin. I would suggest to trade altcoin by trading daily. because I myself have experienced losses when I have altcoin and have a strategy to hold for a long time. I hope with altcoin that I hold can rise to the first price of the coin appears, it turns out that expectations do not match reality.
for me trading altcoin is faster to get profits, because in my opinion the tide of the altcoin market price tends to be greater, and such conditions can be utilized to trade. and in the case of trading do not just rely on one coin if indeed we can still take advantage with other coins.

Short term gains if make you happy then you should go for them. But having a huge portfolio it becomes tough to manage everything in one place. When you start adding on millions of shitcoins you are bound to get in a mess.

Volume becomes secondary once the pump and dump beings. Bagholders pump their shills and make them buy while they dump on them. At that time you would be confused as to whether buy or sell and before you know it, all selling opportunities will run out.

Every and everyone of the altcoin devs will dump on your head when they want. Advisors and devs are in it for the money. They are least bothered about the project. That was their main motif before starting and will remain so. This is the reason why the development of many projects is slow and questionable.

In terms on day trading I do leverage trading but with bitcoin not with alts. Yes, those coin are good! But when you do leverage trading you will just wait for minutes-hours to get the profit that you want. I trade at the bitmex in terms of leverage trading I am only doing 20% leverage when I am sure about something and mostly I will stay at the 5-10% leverage. I will say no for other coins in day trading, but yes to leverage trading with bitcoin!

Altcoins are much better for day trade indeed especially the coins that have a high volatility rate and on the other hand, bitcoin is much better used for long term investment. Way back 2017 daily trade is really the deal, you can definitely obtain a big profit but for now, it seems daily trade is not an option probaly there are still some altcoins who manage to fluctuate in a small amount of time which is perfect for this kind of trading strategy.

The fundamental principle of day trading is to make money with those coins that fluctuate easily and that too on daily basis so that you can make money quickly. As far as bitcoin is concerned, it is the most expensive coin and has never been observed fluctuating significantly on daily basis. Therefore it is suggested to do trading with altcoins.

It is the opposite, if you have a very small capital it is better to trade the markets that are the most liquid, the markets that have the most volume, and this is because the spread in those markets will be smaller and your chances to make profits will be higher, it is also not true that you need to wait for weeks or months to make profits when you're day trading, that is the whole reason why those that prefer that style of trading engage in it instead of long term trading.

Since Bitcoin is stable enough, what we can do is to hold it for long term and find some other altcoins that we can do for short trading, yes this is fine as we all know it will make you a lot of profit, but before you do that, you should know how to trade well, learn strategies from a lot of experts our there and only start with small capital.

Yes, it's nice to trade your BTC for alts when Bitcoin is in a slump. For instance, Bitcoin is down to below $7500 today. But, TRX is up to over 200 satoshis. If you had bought Tron back when it was 180 and BTC was $8,000 you would have increased your position. Altcoins also have just as much volatility as Bitcoin does, so they're perfectly fine to day trade them just like you would Bitcoin. Just try to stick to more well known coins.

I think the best and profitable to day trade altcoins is XRP Ripple since it is going up even though the other altcoins and bitcoin are going down. I don't know the reason why it is going up and maybe a lot of traders much prefer to trade XRP when bitcoin's value is going down.

And doing day trading is like you want to earn more profit within the day and doesn't want to wait, but day trading is really good and can you a lot of profit and it will just depend on what coin you are trading.

A man can trade with anything he likes to. But I think it is important to choose some asset that has high value and can change value in short duration. Bitcoin fluctuates more than any other crypto coin. It is the most volatile coin that is known so far. People choose to day trade in it due to this reason only. You cannot make money if the rate remains constant or just increase or decreases by a dollar.
Bitcoin is very volatile that is undeniable but to say it is the coin with the most volatility that is a mistake, if you want volatility then you can pick altcoins that are outside the top 100 and see what volatility really means, I have seen coins making pumps as high as 700% in a single day, and movements like that are what feed the dreams of all of those that think they can get rich in the market since they think that if at least they participated in some of those movements they will get right very quickly.

I really like day trade with altcoins when bitcoin prices are more stable or side away. Unlike bitcoin, day trading with altcoins
in a day can play on several coins, because the price of average altcoins is very cheap. Altcoins my mainstay for day trade is
LTC, XRP, XLM and BNB. That Coins i trade for short-term, which I take a small profit but often.

I myself trade with more than one coin, and the majority of the altcoins that I hold I use for daily trading and I trade long-term with bitcoin. so I think, it is very feasible to trade in cryptocurrency, so that the opportunity to get greater results.

I think trading with more than one coin can be profitable, but you also have to look at the risks involved. if some of your altcoins experience a price drop, so the price is too difficult to recover, then the risk you experience is even greater. in my opinion, trading daily with altcoin should first do research on the coins that you will hold. You must always remember, that many new altcoins are deceptive at this time.

altcoins are meant to be used for day trading or short term trading since they increase  and decrease very little in values not making much difference to your money. But investors who want to earn something on daily basis, this is good for them. But always use popular altcoins for trading and trade when bitcoin increases in value because in such way, you can make some profit at least.

Yes, much of the fluctuations in the crypto sphere are linked to Bitcoin, but it's certainly not the only factor that influences the price of altcoins. Also, diversifying your portfolio is never a bad idea, and actually keeps you safer in many ways.

The difficulty of trading more than one coin is that now you not only need to consider which coin is going up or down but now you need to consider how the coins are moving compared to each other, and this is especially difficult when you are day trading and the price of everything moves so fast, if you try to do it by hand then most likely by the time you are done the price of everything has already moved, in that case you will probably need a bot to do it for you.

this might be a pretty good and reasonable answer. it's most likely just a matter of prediction and analysis. some people find it easier to do analysis for certain coins, for example like ethereum that your friend did.

in this case, I also chose bitcoin, because I felt that the pump would start from the crypto king. however, on the other hand, some people prepare for bitcoin cash and other potential altcoins. maybe they have a certain reason. besides, the price of bitcoin is currently so high, so they choose altcoin so that the amount they get can be more, and when the price goes up, it might be more profitable than holding bitcoin.

You have to consider that Bitcoin and Ethereum has such huge volumes because they are major trading pairs in almost a exchanges, so someone might decide to trade one shitcoin in an obscure exchange but it would still count in the volume of Bitcoin bacause the person traded it in the bitcoin pair, but when you see the volume of other alts like XLM, you know it's people who specifically traded XLM that the volume is showing so it would be a bad idea to judge by volume, short term trading is good for almost all major alts, not just Bitcoin because their prices are also flunctuating exactly like Bitcoin is.

I have not yet fully understood why the most rated cryptocurrencies are not very profitable for daily trading, but for some reason all my friends advise me to choose coins for scalping exactly from the top 2 of the top cryptocurrency market ratings.  They explained to me indistinctly why the top ten tops do not fit, only explaining that these are coins with a large volume of cash flows.  I believe that scalping is a very good and profitable strategy for daily trading, but I do not use Ethereum and Bitcoin at all.

Probably because of those hype coins will have potential in day trading and this is also a very risky strategy. Well, you must also consider altcoins even if it has only small amount compare to bitcoin because it depends on the volume of your investment as well because I have a friend who earns a big amount in trading altcoins so, it really depends on you if you are lucky enough to earn big profit from it because day trading for me is just a sort of gambling it needs a bit of luck including skills.
