Title: [ANN] CPU Coin List - CpuCoinList.com - Alt Coins For Your CPU
Post by: btc-mike on February 24, 2014, 01:51:26 AM
CPU COIN LIST (http://cpucoinlist.com)
Cryptocurrencies for Your Processor (http://cpucoinlist.com)

The CPU Coin List is a sortable page of Alternate Cryptocurrencies that can be mined on your CPU.

A new feature is the GPU Advantage calculation. Coins that are GPU mineable have the hash rate of current GPUs and CPUs compared to determine if the coin is still worth CPU mining. We have the calculations up for most coins.

Follow The CPU Coin List on Twitter (https://twitter.com/cpucoinlist)!

I have no idea why nobody thought of making this site before. It's nice to have a site with the CPU altcoin thread. Good job, site looks nice and clean.

I guess you know there is a QRK GPU miner, what means that currently there are only few CPU coins ...

XMP, pNut, DTC, RIC and MMC (CHC doesn't have yet the GPU miner because no one really cares about coding it, but it's basically same hashes as DRK in different order)

Anything else in your list should be consider a GPU coin, because it's more profitable with GPU (you could also mine scrypt with CPU, but the moment it's more profitable with GPU you consider it a GPU coin)

Pretty sure there's one tho its not yet released to the public. Just look at the hashrates on few of the pools, its pretty obvious. Probably modified from DRK gpuminer, started seeing those hashrates shortly after that was released.

Agreed!

So basically only XMP, pNut, DTC, RIC and MMC are CPU coins

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=481516.0

Technically INKcoin is CPU coin right now because there is no public GPU miner, but it's only shavite, almost any GPU miner has that in their kernel, and quite sure it's faster on GPU.

https://github.com/prettyhatemachine/sph-sgminer/blob/master/kernel/shavite.cl

I am aware that many of the CPU only coins may have private GPU miners. Even so, all can still be mined with a the CPU. I am working on profitability calculators which should help.

Sure: http://mmc.1gh.com/

I noticed that reward decreased and found out that there's a gpu miner released. I don't mine MMC with my cpu right now.

What about https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=483515 ?

It looks like it should be included here, specially if groestl hash is not GPU friendly this coin will be really minable by anyone.

I updated MMC as CPU and GPU mineable.

I was using the term "limited gpu" because I was using that term on the other list. From now on, I am just saying the coin can be CPU and GPU mined if the GPU miner is out in the wild.

What about https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=483515 ?

It looks like it should be included here, specially if groestl hash is not GPU friendly this coin will be really minable by anyone.

I will add shortly.

I tried mining with groestl hash and got nothing after 12 hours. Difficulty is too HIGH for CPU. Will try with quark algo.

Regarding Myriadcoin, I'm mining it with CPU, groestl and qubit, and I've got quite a few coins (I have many servers).

We know Qubit is minable with GPU, but according to the dev, the reason why they added groestl is because it's not GPU friendly.

How did you mine it? Solo or pool? Diff is too high for solo unless you have many servers

I solo mined. There is no groestl pool that i've seen.

They have GPU miners from the beginning. Is it profitable to mine either of these with CPU alone?

So do I, and I do not have many servers, but in my eyes it is one of the most profitable ones for CPU mining - groestl works ok for me, qubit I am not sure, only started mining it yesterday.

What is your mining rate? I used 8 cores for about 12 hours and got nothing.

Besides, groestl will have GPU miner soon. Groestl is one of the algos used on Darkcoin and that has a GPU miner (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=475795.0). The author says here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=422149.msg5345339#msg5345339) it would be easy to modify the miner for Chaincoin by moving algos around. Based on that, it could be done for a pure groestl implementation as well.

With 8 cores you won't get anything right now, you need pool, but there aren't yet for groestl, I believe.

It should be easy to do the CHC miner, and very easy to do the groestl one (just remove code from the current miner), the point is that the dev said the reason to use groestl is because it's GPU unfriendly, but will see once the miner is out.

I suppose I should add Myriadcoin-groestl for now since there are no public GPU miners.

I'm exactly there, CPUs without aes-ni support, so MMC is not an option, Quark clones aren't profitable anymore because of GPU miner, XPM hasn't been profitable for many months ... basically there is no coin left for us to mine. There is a huge demand for a real CPU only coin!

Also many comments about RIC GPU miner.

How is it CPU friendly if it's scrypt-jane? What's stopping GPUs to mine at CPU diff?

I would love to test it, but I haven't found a working pool.

1.For GPU mining the difficulty is random,
   0.00024414---0.24414
2.For CPU mining get the lowest difficulty :0.00024414,Difficulty is the same.

There isnīt any pool. FATE coin is pool-proof. Only solo  ;)

myriad coin although it's not exclusively cpu it is a cpu minable coin with a fair shot for cpu miners also we're considering replacing groestl or qubit with xpm with a more solid cpu algo.

I know groestl was CPU mineable after the Myriad launch because I was mining it. Once the GPU miner came out, it was hard to make profit.

If the algo changes, I will definitely add Myriad to the list again.

Please add Fatecoin to your list as CPU/GPU. It is very CPU friendly since the diff is much lower than if you tried to mine it with GPU.  Thank you.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=468889.0

How is it CPU friendly if it's scrypt-jane? What's stopping GPUs to mine at CPU diff?

I would love to test it, but I haven't found a working pool.

1.For GPU mining the difficulty is random,
   0.00024414---0.24414
2.For CPU mining get the lowest difficulty :0.00024414,Difficulty is the same.

There isnīt any pool. FATE coin is pool-proof. Only solo  ;)

I don't see how this is CPU friendly (I haven't mined it, the 1st post of the thread is a mess and not clear). If it works like MYR with 2 different difficulties, as long as both algos are scrypt-jane, what stops me from mining in the CPU difficulty using GPU? I'm willing to give it a try even it doesn't have exchange yet, but all I know about this coin is that the launch was a total fail and the miner had some virus or something.

Thanks!

I am a big fan of FATE.

This coin is not mass mineable to my knowledge. I would love this coin to hit exchanges and make it far. Most miners do not understand how it works at all. The Dev is Chinese and his English is not that great. He has handed support for the project on the board to another Dev. FATE seems to have a larger following in China and the Dev needed his focus there. This coin has potential as it is the only coin I know that cant be driven into the ground by mass mining.

If you are interested in this coin take some time to see how it works, many get confused and don't know what is going on. It is a coin that has multiple blockchains that your miner is randomly on one of. Every few hours you link to the correct chain. Once on the correct chain you have to be the first to finish the block to earn the payout. That is your FATE. As it was explained, it is like a race once on the correct chain. It is possible for a crappy dual core or even a Sempron single core to mine. Xeons,6 Cores, 8-cores, will be faster earners, but will not exclude the slower miners as the difficulty for CPU mining is always set low.

Currently the Wallet is version 111qt.

I will offer any decent Exchange 2000 FATE for listing and 1000 for giveaways.

PM me with interest and credentials. I will offer FATE for games and a better PAGE listing as the original needs an English Revival with good graphic art.

I am not a DEV. I am a supporter with some FATE trying to support a good coin.

I cannot comment on that but all I can say is I've mined 2 blocks worth 160 FATE in 1 hour with my lousy desktop PC.
So, either 160 FATE is absolutely worthless or there is in fact some profit to make even with marginally low horsepower.

I would like to hear come feedback from CPU miners on this thread, too.

What would you suggest new miners, which coins are better to mine for common desktops/servers/PC Farms, how much do you get per day, etc.

I'm trying many CPU coins right now as a totally new miner and can also share my limited experience so far.

I thought about that before asking, but because I just want to be sure this coin is really CPU friendly it's in-topic. So far I don't see how this is CPU friendly. In any case I will ask in the thread and let's see if someone can explain it properly, not sure if btc-mike gave it a try.

RIC is the way to go right now, with the new miners it's finally fair, dga made a chart showing that few people (looks like a00k, supercomputing, Firkraag and dga) had a super optimized miner for some time (those green dots on the middle an upper side), while most people were using jh00's miner (those dots on the lower side), but now optimized miner is out and most people are catching up (see how dots are moving to the upper side, which means the optimized miner). Dev is very active and it looks like new pools are ready.

Don't know how I read GPU Miner :P:P:P

In any case there is no GPU miner just because there is not enough interest in this coin, otherwise it's just 5 minutes to modify QRK GPU miner to mine ANIcoin, I personally don't think this means it's CPU coin, but well, that's up to btc-mike.

It can only be CPU mined. For now.

As soon as it hits a major exchange, someone will modify the quark miner.

It's not about being minable, it's about profitability, you could mine BTC with CPU, but it's not profitable. Primecoin is minable with GPU, but the most optimized GPU miner (that people know about, even it's not public) is slower than the CPU miner, so it's a "CPU coin".

I added support for animecoin in sph-sgminer (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=475795.0). Source code is here: https://github.com/prettyhatemachine/sph-sgminer (https://github.com/prettyhatemachine/sph-sgminer). Speed is about 1.8 MH/s for R9 290. Building:

Code:
./autogen.sh
./configure
make

Example usage (solo mining with sgminer connected to wallet running on rpc port 6666, username foo, password bar):

Code:
GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT=100 DISPLAY=:0 ./sgminer -k animecoin -o 127.0.0.1:6666 -u foo -p bar -I 15 -g 4 -w 128 --queue 0 --scan-time 0

As usual, no Windows binaries are provided. Expect problems when mining on pools.

ANI donations: AVCDtY6Mn5rnnCecLf7pgiXH76YxquJcPB

Obviously it didn't make sense to have this coin as a CPU coin, the difference with Quark is only the order of the first 2 hashing functions, bmw512 and then blake512 instead of blake512 and then bmw512.

You can add Hirocoin.
It is based on DRK, same algo, same miners. Was added to Poloniex today.
The difficulty is about 10 times lower than DRK, it is a good time for CPU miners to join the game.

I think you could add [GRS] GroestlCoin to the list, it has GPU miner but it's CPU friendly, an average GPU is only 2-4 times faster than an average CPU

Are the hashrates of GPU and CPU in same standard?
For example, my ATI7850 got 2.7m, and my E3-1230-V3 got 1.3m, so each 7850 is like two E3, is that correct?

It has 2 or 3 pools already, nice block explorer, optimized CPU miner, 2 exchange markets .... looking good.

I have been asked via PM to at Bytecoin. It was noted that I already have Monero, so I should list Bytecoin as well.

I will not be adding Bytecoin because it was 80% mined before being publicly released. It took 2 yrs to mine, but that was all private so it still amounts to a premine.

Hello All,

Following a disappointing result when btc-mike tested the latest YAM miner on an AMD FX-8320 hashing groestlcoin (1300Khs), and  being a firm believer that Grøstl is the ultimate PoW I forwarded these results to yvg1900, the YAM miner dev. yvg1900 said he'd take a closer look at the findings.

Earlier on today yvg1900 replied with some comments in a PM to me. Being very correct and diligent yvg1900 suggested I should confer with btc-mike before re-publishing the comments in a public forum. I agreed and notified btc-mike of our wish to make public these comments, seeking his approval in doing so.

Of course btc-mike being a sound chap was quite happy to continue the dialogue and requested I publish yvg1900's thoughts in this thread. I agreed and he agreed I'd re-pot this in the Groestlcoin thread:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=525926.0

So here follows yvg1900's comments after the results of btc-mike's test of an AMD FX-8320 hashing groestlcoin… Enjoy!

thanks btc-mike and yvg1900 - you both totally røck!

CH

I took at deeper look on cpucoinlist situation, and here are some conclusions:

1). Yet AMD FX-8320 is not the low end one, it is definitely not the latest and most efficient CPU. It has been released back in October, 2012, but CPU technology advanced a lot since that time with introduction of AVX2 instruction set and Intel Haswell microarchitecture. GPU used for comparison was released one year later, and this heriod is a huge leap in modern data processing technology.

2). In my optimizations I target latest CPUs with lates features, and clear lead at the moment is Intel with their Haswell microarchitecture. AMD FX-8320 is not primary target for optimization, it actually benefits from optimizations targeted to Intel Sandy/Ivy Bridge CPUs (they are limited to AVX as well). I would suggest comparing AMD r9 280X GPU against Intel Xeon E3-1270v3 or i7 4770k CPUs, which have similar (or even significantly lower) price [hash pre $ invested] (I don't mind power consumption) [hash per watt].

3) Newer Haswell Refresh CPUs are coming (or came) in $300 price range, that will bring even more performance boost to CPU mining.

4). When using yam miner it is very important to ensure that memory subsystem on the testing platform is configured correct way (i.e. if HugePages enabled and working). This may lead to nearly 2x performance difference on some coins (especially affected are MemoryCoin, ProtoShares and NoirShares; GroestlCoin is not affected so much).

5) CPU/GPU comparison table tinks to outdated version - makes sense to take a look at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hTOUdJZrKqrNDXTIbXgNvJtj_fnpECREcs-eHxaGrZc/edit#gid=256771159 instead (available in the OP at GRS ANN thread at botcointalk)

6) Now, just for comparison: from that table and other tests it is clear that Haswell CPUs do well over 2600 KH/s, and some single-CPU machines go over 2800 KH/s. There is a clear technical explanation for this: FX-8320 uses AVX, and Haswell CPUs use AVX2, which has 2x data width (256-bit registers) compared to AVX (128-bit registers).

Thanks,
yvg1900
Developer of yam miner

i am trying to make make the testing fair by using like equipment to compare different algorithms. The r9 280x is so common, that it is easy to find hash rate info. it is a lot harder to find cpu hashrates, especially when the gpu miner gets released so i used the cpu/system i have. i know my cpu (fx-8320) is not the latest but the cpu allowed me to compare the algorithms.

after emails with yvg1900 i found that my 8MB system does not take advantage of huge pages. any software that uses this will thus see no advantage.

yvg1900 offered to put me in touch with testers, so i may be able to get more cpu numbers.

having said all that, i still believe the current GPU Advantage numbers are a reasonable representation. my goal was to determine which algorithms/coins could still be effectively mined with a CPU and i feel i have done. BUT, there is certainly room for improvement.

Mike, maybe you can add second cpu coin table at your http://cpucoinlist.com?
It will be the list for coins that do not meet your requirements (at least for today) but are also 'cpu only'? :)
It will be useful knowledge for cpu miners but also motivation for the people behind this coins?
Best!

I think its actually a little of both.

It appears there is still no stand alone miner for it so you have to mine with simpleminer. Here (http://poolberry.org/#getting_started) is some straight forward instructions for mining.

Most CryptoNote coins use CryptoNight for the PoW hash algorithm.

Boolberry uses a unique PoW hash algorithm called Wild Keccak. The algorithm pulls data from the blockchain and hashes it.

You can get more information about each on my algorithms page (http://cpucoinlist.com/cryptocurrency-algorithms/).

I am going to write a how-to soon. For immediate help, ask in the Boolberry thread.

About NUD (if anyone is interested) - I did a test mining and in last 24 hours managed to get 2 blocks with solo mining on i5-3210M, total 100 coins.
Hash rate was about 1.2 KHash/sec.

Is their a PoW for Slimcoin? I looked at it and it didn't seem like there was any mining happening.
