A sell-off sent the ethereum price plunging below $300 on Monday, forcing the second-largest cryptocurrency to its lowest mark in more than nine months.
Ethereum had traded as high as $323 earlier in the day, but a flurry of sell orders began to pummel the market at approximately 15:00 UTC, driving ETH closer and closer to $300, a level it had not touched since 2017.
 Notably, this decline has not just occurred against the dollar, as the ethereum price has also cratered against bitcoin. Just six months ago, ETH was valued at just under 0.1 BTC. Now, it’s priced at less than half that mark and shows no signs of finding its footing as bitcoin continues to gobble up market share. At a present value of 0.047, ETH/BTC is now trading at levels not seen since mid-December, when the bitcoin price went parabolic and briefly peaked at $19,891 on Bitfinex. It’s not entirely clear what drove the sell-off, which is disproportionately large compared to the minor declines exhibited throughout the majority of the rest of the cryptocurrency market.

This is sad to see. Given how well ETH was doing and was at the top for such a long time, this is sad. But let's hope that this will recover soon.

The sell off could be because of lowered trust of people over the ETH recently as it is behaving very unusual these days. Look at the market and see how it is not progressing since many month now even when rest of the crypto grows it remains the same in value or either drops even further down. I guess this is not the best approach and thus people are dropping out and leaving ETH to die. However this situation will surely change back to normal once the ETH scalability is done and new updates are released for which everyone is waiting for.

This is the lowest ETH has fallen in terms of price. But we still need to be optimistic and HODL. The price level will recover.

it’s not just ETH but many other coins in the market has been falling like crazy. Some are expecting that ethereum is going to be dead soon. Besides, many worthless ICOs and projects have been working based on ethereum’s blockchain system which might have affected it negatively. The whales are also manipulating the market. Yes, lowest price of 9 months. I did not think ETH can go under 300 USD, but i am seeing ETH have the chance to go under 150 USD ! This year keep making us surprise with the down trend! Its really a coincidence, since the market is in the bear trend and not just ETH. Maybe people are selling of their ETH because of many investors are panicking at the current market. Now we hit the lowest price but maybe we can see a little dump price don’t worry because ETH will bounce back after that big fall.

That happened because mostly of the altcoins goes down but I'm still hoping everything is gonna be fine we still have four more months to wait and I hope it will recover it especially this BER months be patience members just hold on.

Not only ETH is facing bad days, even whole market falls down and lowest price in last 9 months. But Bitcoin and ETH are the main altcoins of this industry and it's bad see these coins has losing their stablity. But i have full faith on both of these, they will recover soon. I mean to say ETH and bitcoin will recover at end of this month.

I believe that we can attribute this disproportionate dip to several actions, such as the irrational sale of those who let themselves be carried away by the FUD and clearly the manipulation of the market by whales, the latter is very serious and that is why we have to support ourselves as a community and sustain the hodl to avoid falling into the game of pump and dump, many whales are purposely lowering the market price and then buy it at a much cheaper price, do not be fooled not fall into the FUD and hold on.

Yeah ETH continues to fall until now, actually not only ETH is falling down its value but almost all alts are not in good situation right now. We need more patience now or we will lose money because of dumping. Let us wait for the 4th quarter if there is a miracle will happen again.

Icos are selling etherium so much lately that the price is dropping rapidly. I believe that we will soon hit the bottom around 260 but lets wait for btc ETF approval next month because again it can drive the price further down if rejected

I have started selling off all my loose coins and getting into Ethereum.  Do you guys really think it's going to go away?  It may not be the biggest gainer in this next run up but its a very safe way to double and triple your $$.

I think someone has huge amount of ETH had dumps that makes the price fall below $300 and to add those weak hands investor who get in panic to sell their ETH. I think the situation Eth had right right now is pretty normal in crypto. Prices going up and down but we should not take it as a negative. This beyond my prediction,  i think the level support area of ETH is around $380 but the price was keep down. But not only the price of ETH dumped but all altcoins is the same. This is because whales sell off by the same times, and i think they will be buy back when any good news in crypto market.  Crypto still have good future so the price have possibility to going up.
