Title: Ask me any questions about Bitcoin Talk and posting
Post by: JetAid on September 13, 2018, 07:45:48 PM
I'm going to be populating the knowledgebase in the new Jet Cash helpdesk. Ask me any questions about Bitcoin Talk or posting in the forum, and we will answer them in this thread, and add them to the knowlegebase. Other members are welcome to comment or clarify any points raised in this thread.

The thread is self-moderated, so please - no bounty or TwitBook spamming. This is a help thread, and not an advertising hoarding.

You have received a negative trust from a DT user.

The reason? "Advertising scam ICO after warning" as shown in this archive of your post (http://archive.is/sVDEp#selection-4137.0-4137.9) where you help advertise a scam ICO by spreading them on Twitter and Facebook.

marlboroza (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=787736) (the one who gave you the negative trust) is the only one who can remove the negative feedback. He has some guidelines (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4598987.0) to get it removed but looks like he won't be doing it anymore for users who advertised cointrooper (your case?).

1) In how many ways can one earn merits.
2) Can merits be bought ?

My questions go thus :
1) In how many ways can one earn merits.
2) Can merits be bought ?

1) You can earn Merit by helping other members, contributing quality posts or giving useful opinions.
Merit will be given by other members. Therefore, they have to review your posts before deciding to give them.
With each 2 merits that other members give you, you I'll earn 1 smerit, ít is useless for you, the only thing you can do with smerits is give it to others who you feel that their posts are high quality.

2)Begging, exchanging or buying/selling merit are violated the forum rules.
If detected, you will receive red trust. As you know losing prestige is very easy, but regaining ít is much harder. In addition, most signature bounties refuse red trust members.

How many posts per day count towards activity and rank up? Is there a limit?
What is the difference between activity and posts?

I am noticing my posts do not match my activity numbers.

When you make your knowledge-base, be sure to let people know that your rank does not raise over time. I joined over three years ago. I lurked instead of posting for the most part. I recently got tired of being marked Newbie and started posting.

Also, can newbies get merit at all?

You can only get 14 activity per period of 2 weeks. A more detailed explanation is available in this thread: FAQ: Everything you need to know about forum 'activity, account ranks and merit (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2766177.0)

Also, can newbies get merit at all?
Anyone can get merit.

I have one important question. How to earn trust? What do I write posts or guides that people really need this forum, I want to take advantage and get merit honestly.

How to earn trust?
Well, people earn 'trust' points simply by having successful transactions with people; though some are earning trust ratings simply by helping out people.

What do I write posts or guides that people really need this forum, I want to take advantage and get merit honestly.
Pretty much just write anything related to cryptocurrencies that people can find useful. But honestly though? If you have decent knowledge on bitcoin or cryptocurrencies in general, you could earn merit just by casually replying to topics while not trying too hard at all. It becomes organic.

You're a jr. member that's why you can't find it in your settings. You should be atleast a full member before you can add an avatar (the profile picture you're saying) to your account.

I've seen someone that giving Merit to his friend, but the post that have been Merited are not supposed/deserve to be Merited (seems like it's just giving away Merit to his friend freely)
My question : is it againts the rules or no? Because as far as i know, Merit is given to the useful/informative/helpful post.

If you got banned, you can't have a new account. That would be ban evasion.

If you never got banned, you can have as many accounts as you want - just don't try to cheat bounties/campaigns or spam (people who have multiple accounts are usually trying to earn as many money as possible by spamming the forum, so... don't) - otherwise you will get neg trusted in all of them.

But keep in mind that if any of them get banned in the future and you keep using your second or third account, you will also be ban evading.

Not against the rules, but he can easily get neg trusted by a DT member. If you think there is any kind of merit abuse, create a thread in the Meta board.

Sorry I have been off the forum for a couple of days. I decided to scrap one of my vans that was full of rubbish, and everything that could go wrong, did go wrong.

I'll go through this thread, and make reply to posts if neccessary. It looks as if some other members have done this for me, and I'm grateful for this - thanks guys, and I'll sort out some merits.

Please continue to ask questions if you have any.

There are no clear rules on how sMerit should be sent, but abuse of sMerit can be reported to DT members, and DT members may give them a negative trust.
You can report it here:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2896910.0

This is also the biggest flaw of Merits. Usually people tend to give merits to their friends or altcounts, but when sMerit is sent, it will decay by half.Over time, sMerit will not be regenerated once all sMerit have sent, unless it is a Merit source. So we can see that the abuse of the merits is gradually decreasing. I believe that after the merits abusers repeat several times, they will no longer have sMerits to send.

I was going to delete your post, but there is so much wrong with it, that I thought it was better to comment. This is an information and training thread after all. So here are my comment.

- Your post is on the first index page, and yet you quoted the opening post in full, and there was no real reference to the content. This is really annoying and bulks up the thread for no purpose.

- Despite the quote, you don't seem to have read the opening post and understood it. Had you done so, you would have realised that this account is a training alternative account for Jet Cash, and he is a legendary member.

- Rank is not a restriction on starting discussion posts, but if you are a new member in the Bitcoin Talk forum, you should encure that it is a good and informative discussion, and that you have a reasonable knowledge of the topic.

- Number of posts, and hours spent in the forum are no indication of a quality poster. There are many members who have made hundreds of posts, and they are low value spam writings, and they really ought to stop and do a bit of reading.

- The original purpose of the trust system was to help establish the honesty of traders, however account selling has meant that you need to verify a good trust rating before risking any asserts. Recently it has been used to indicate reputation and the moral fibre of a member. The theory is that a merit cheat or abuser, or an account dealer is prepared to work agianst the spirit of the forum, and therefor he may be preoared to chet members in trading. It can also affect bounty earnings, and the bounty manager may consider negative trust as a possible indication of bounty programme fraud.

- A low post count, and a long time spent on the board can indicate one of two things. An intelligent member with a thirst for knowledge, who has spent his time reading threads rather than posting spm and uninformed comments. Or it could indicte a surfer who leaves the forum open in a background browser window, and spends his time gambling or playing games. Neither of these activities is likely to help him to make constructive posts.

New rule being implemented that demotes jr member to newbie if they don't acquire at least one merit and i am affected by this new rule because i don't have merit but i don't whine because i am pretty aware that there are so many bots spamming and polluting this forum. I will make this new rule as an inspiration to improve my skill in speaking in English to achieve that single and golden merit  :).

My question is, is there any plan also to demote those accounts that ranked up years ago who does not earn a single merit even though they are here for a long time? I have observed that even though they ranked high but they are not contributing to the forum and even spamming here. I know they were here ahead of me but the purpose of merit system does not affect them.

That would pose a lot of problems. Especially if some of the founding members returned to the forum, and that is something that I hope swe can encourage.

I believe that Theymos is aware of the problem, and he has some changes under consideration. One is a rank above legendary, and that would require earned merits. Another is the removal of merits from deleted posts and sold accounts. That would effectively de-rank a sold account, and could reduce merit abuse.

Another consideration is that some bounty managers are requiring earned merits from applicants to their better programmes.

It depends on what happens in the future. If the "garbage-posting" continues, more restrictions will be imposed.
In general, the purpose of these restrictions is to increase the quality of posts. Once this achieved, rank-up will return to activity.
check
I'll think about tying some of those to activity instead of rank in the future.

This should have been considered since the implementation of the merit system to minimize spammers that earned huge amount of money to the envy of the lower ranked members that triggers them to use multiple accounts which in return multiply also the numbers of spammers/cheaters.

I noticed that ^^word got some red underline which tell that it was misspelled but i think it is the right spelling. Do this domain used American English to checked spellings and grammars rather than British Standard? You might find this question silly but i just want to know.

Actually you can add now an avatar or images in your profile forum for theymos made it availabe after paying a small fee as toll to get rank in an upgraded jr. member account that can wear images or avatar. Refer to these thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5030366.0) why theymos made this decision and if you are interested to get the opportunity to wear images visit this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=credit;promote. Buy the copper membership and enjoy wearing your favorite avatar!

The Copper upgrade gives you the same privileges as a "Member" account, which does not have an option for an avatar.  You must to rank up to Full Member before you are permitted to wear an avatar.

When am I able to post images ?

Once you have ranked up to Jr. Member.

The forum is America, JetCash must be British, and therefore possibly Satoshi Nakimoto.

When am I able to post images ?

I've set up an image hosting site - https://mobileimg.com/mypictures/ , but it's only for Bitcoin Talk members who have joined the Fit to Talk English posting improvement project. The idea is that you take pictures of Bitcoin use in your local country, or other local customs or topics of interest. I'm providing it to help improve the quality and content of threads in this forum, please don't abuse it.

Sometimes i like it better when the forum is sorted by newest topics first instead of the standard newest reactions first, as far as i know you can not adjust this through the forum settings.

To solve this you can add a ";sort=first_post;desc" (or ;asc) after board=x.x.
For example https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=39.0;sort=first_post;desc (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=39.0;sort=first_post;desc)

Perhaps there are other tricks like this you know of?

You can post as many time as you wish until you maintain the rules of the forum. That's how all the forum work, FYI. But, in bitcointalk, posts are not counted for your ranking. You need to have activity.
you can have 14 activities per 2 weeks of period. So, no matter how much you post daily, you can only get 14 activities per 14 days.

How do I get merit point?
Put 0% effort for merit.
Put 100% effort for quality.

If you never got banned, you can have as many accounts as you want

Okay. But I don't understand is why the multiple account is not banned here.what is the purpuse of having multiple account for one person?. Can't they post valuable post with one account.? for long term I think new members will earn their first merit and will create new account and try to earn another one merit rather increasing membership jr.member to member.so I think need a rule for this .

Hi, Can you tell me how to receive merit? What should I do?

this forum is to learn and share valuable ideas and knowledge about bitcoin and cryptocurrency among all the users.so you can learn here and post valuable post it is helpful for forum members, merit system is developed to help members to rank up and give respect/value/motivate for important/knowledgeable post. If you create a post with really valuable for forum users someone will reward you a merit.it is not guarantee which post and howmany merits. it is depend on the thought of senior members who have smerit (sendable merit). If someone think your post deserve merit he will add merit to your post.

People can use multiple accounts for different reasons, the main being entering different bounty campaigns with different accounts. Or a member might not want to join bounties with an account for whatever reason, and opens another for that purpose.
It is not encouraged, but it's not a violation of forum rules.

for long term I think new members will earn their first merit and will create new account and try to earn another one merit rather increasing membership jr.member to member.so I think need a rule for this .

If they can earn merit on one account, they can on another, and merit gifting to alt accounts is unethical and can earn one a red trust, so it's a risk most are not willing to take.

I am confused with trust system. I see my trust setting, I understand who is in DT1 and DT2 but I did not understand the post in which people talk like X included Y, so Y become DT or X excluded Y , so Y dropped from DT. How we can able to see this trust list? Actually how many people in Theymos trust list?

That's a dificult one to answer without seeing some samples of deleted posts. You need to look through the rules, and you should be able to get an ideas of the reasons - for example - off topic, incorrect information, self-moderated thread, etc,

One example of incorrect information is this post of yours
Quote
Just my opinion, I think that is because Bitcoin is used for criminal and money laundering

Due to the traceability of Bitcoin transactions, criminal use has reduced recently, and fiat banking, cash, gold and other methods are more common in association with illegal activities.

I have a very mobile lifestyle, and use a wide variety of connections, including public WiFi. library ethernet, and mobile tethering. Also I use a variety of computers and smartphones. I have never had any problems with my BT account as a result of this. Of course I have had some difficulties with connecting via a few ISPs, and I understand that other members can have problems if they are using privacy services.
