Title: I have an idea to an even better merit change
Post by: lolland on September 17, 2018, 08:09:53 PM
Today the we got a new merit system for newbie’s, without one merit, newbie’s will never level up to Jr. Member. This system change will help getting more high quality post in the forum. So far so good.
But why was this merit system change only enforces on newbie’s, why didn’t all account on Bitcointalk, not lose one merit, if a Hero member who has been here for years still only have 500 merit, then he is most likely also doing low quality post, just like the merit less newbie’s, and he should be forces to make some quality post also, to earn one merit to keep his rank.

The reason behind the change was mentioned at the very first line of the announcement thread from theymos.
Due to excessive garbage-posting

It's true that there are lots of ranked people who are posting garbage too.
But if we compare with the Jr member, it's very much low. For your info, as far as I can remember, there were only 1.2 million member back in August 2017 while it has been increased hugely right now. So, most of them are still Jr member, not a higher ranked member.
Therefore, it's logical to put restriction on Newbies/previous Jr member.

It is, while most bounty participant's ranks are jr. members so the changes in the forum rank requirements for junior member must be taken an action to prevent more spam in the forum.

Agreed but spammers and bounty hunters may be the problem to decide this thing from our admin.

Finally all decisions only with the hands of the admins only what we can do here bro. We need to contribute the posts like you said in the quality side. Ignore the spams and report to it.

You are not wrong, that there are shitposters of all rank. They are easy to see because they post the same garbage you find in the newbie accounts.

The problem with using this de-ranking system for members of higher ranks is that they may have become lurkers, or not be as active as they once were. There a lot of older members who have been here years and don't frequent areas where merit was heavily handed out, or use say only the marketplace. So to implement this system in that way would need to be done on a case by case basis, and that would require more effort than it is worth.

This way the forum can at least deter to some extent the account farming for spam bots or bounty signatures. This is mostly done with low ranking fresh accounts.

The rate at which spam is been posted by those highly rank members is at its minimum. I can't even imagine any rank above FULL MEMBER posting thrash, (although we have Judas). But the newbie and junior members post thrash on a daily base. I tried going through some account after their complains of demotion to see if I could help by giving them 1 merit but the 5 account I went through were just filled with garbage so I gave up and merited others.

You will not compare the quality of post been made last to the quality of post been seen these day, these days you see all kinds of post that doesn't make any sense, and whether you like it or not, you cannot compare someone who has been here since last year with someone who join recently, experience really matter, those old members really have great experience, remember there are people who have been in this forum even before ICOs which gives rise to bounties and signature campaigns even started, those people deserves some great respect, and trust me, remove bounty from these forum, majority of people will never be here.

Maybe it's not a bad idea. There is quite many high ranked users who are just spamming on Bitcointalk and not deserved their rank. But let's be straight - biggest spamming problem was caused mainly by Newbies and Juniors. Just look at any spammy thread on Bitcointalk and compare number of shitposts made by Newbies/Juniors and higher ranked users.
But I wouldn't be against if 1 Merit would be required to enable signatures for all ranks. I just think that from Hero to Zeeo would be to strict :D
