Over the last few days Ripple (XRP) has shown steady increase. With a huge rise of about 40% earlier today, taking its growth to over 100%, and earning it the number 2 spot (top altcoin) and usurping Ethereum.
But it's reign didn't last long, as Ethereum quickly Flippened it, with a growth of 17% and it's back as the top altcoin.
The start of a bull run?

I don't think that eth ever left its number two spot even when the price was fallen. Don't get me wrong, ripple is a good coin and is going to keep being a good coin but that does not mean that the coin can surpass eth, eth remains the better of the two and will always be ahead of ripple. Ethereum is obviously the best altcoin in the market.

Just as bitcoin has always remain at the top, ethereum tries as much as possible to mimic bitcoin by maintaining its #2 spot. Ethereum quickly assuming its #2 spot after it was overthrown can be a possibility that, the bull run period is due. I hope this is the bull run time and should continue till the year ends.

It was worth expecting. ETH has good positions and huge potential. And yes perhaps the current situation on the market is the beginning of global growth. So far, everything converges on this.

I think Ripple will dump to its original price soon. The pump last days is because of some good news of XRP and it often occurs when some coin has good news, i don't like the pump -dump game so i'm outside of it. At least Ethereum has some value with ICO market, I don'tsee XRP has any value.

centralization remains centralized and will not be better than decentralization. even third place is not enough to be ripple, just look at ripple just holding the second position in a matter of hours and then thrown back to third place. this is not a matter of position, but about trust. if this upward movement continues and the ETF gives a good decision, then the bull run will begin.

ethereum has never been number two ever to want to take that position back or give it to something else. it just had a huge market capitalization because of its huge supply and the fact that 72 million out of 101 million coins were premined so it stayed as the second coin with highest market cap which is a meaningless list to begin with. and so far multiple altcoins have shown us how meaningless market cap is and how easy it is to produce enough supply to take the high ranks in that list. XRP with its 100 billion supply is one obvious proof :)

Bull? I want to assume that this is the bull run but it's not yet confirmed.

If the market is just always like this - green then we will eventually get into the bull run very soon.

Many are expecting already that the price would go up to $1 and they are very excited to it. But that's expected that XRP will be dumped soon.

I am very sceptical about Ripple, because I am very glad that Etherum has returned to the second place. It absolutely deserves it, I have no doubt. It is very good that there was a rebound on the Ethereum chart, which positively affects the prospect of further growth.

Yeah, i also see the great move of the Ethereum especially and the crypto market generally today. They are all increasing. The rate of the Ethereum is $240.75 . That's good news, I'm glad to hear it because I still hold some Eth. Aside from Bitcoin, Eth is an Altkoin that I made a hope for profit. Ethereum is one of the most powerful altcoins. Much stronger than all the rest. In my opinion, there are two groups of cryptocurrency:
bitcoin and ether;

Ripple has tried this several times and failed but ethereum need to do more in other to remain this strong for long-term.  I think we need the kind of pump we have last year in other for us to see a steady grow in both ethereum and ripple.

Hope that Ethereum again return his position and expect that it will cost at least 1000$ till end of this year. Many of analitics say about that and i am also think so. Thats why, i am feeling safety with ethereum in portfolio.

This is could be a preposition for bull run. If I'm not mistaken, same thing happens on other alternate coins last bull run but not on the top tier coins. If the market remain aggressive, I think it could start an excitement on the crypto world. I think recently Ripple has an strongly increasement  about price because it has gone out of its old cycle and start the new cycle. I don't understand why do you see who is at what place. If a project has prospects like Ethereum, it is possible not to pay attention to what place in terms of capitalization it is. Eth took back its position as second on market cap but it's only ahead by $1M in XRP's market cap. This two coins will continue to swap rankings as 2nd and 3rd imo and there's nothing surprising about it. Bull run? no, not yet.

No I do not think that this is the beginning of the bull market. Probably just people again began to invest in Etherium, for such a cheap price, understand that the Eth can not so little cost for a long time. Don't think much, if the developer ethereum announced officially the called with consensus mechanism from PoW to PoS. XRP can only temporarily take over ethereum's position at number 2, with a short time Ethereum takes over again. The competition of Ethereum and Ripple on the chart of coinmarketcap has been for the long time ago. the volume, rate, value, and also supply are competing. They are my favorite coins. But I think, ETH is still my first favorite altcoin. If it is in the second list, I'm sure that this is actually very hopeful because it is a very good news.

XRP is a cantralized coin. There are tons of projects that are based on Ethereum blockchain and Ethereum also stands for the values of crypto currencies. XRP does not even has a limited supply. Ethereum is the number 2 crypto. Number 3 should be the BCH and not Ripple.

As I can see at CoinMarketCap, the current situation with ETH and XRP is quite shaky. Ethereum's capitalization is 23.2 billions USD, Ripple's capitalization is 22.3 billions USD, so XRP might again overthrow ETH in the near future.

Although some crypto exchange markets do not want to list and trade Ripple, rich bankers appreciate fast XRP transactions, and I guess they will pump their crypto currency in order to dethrone even Bitcoin.

Ethereum will be better suited to always 2nd place, while Ripple (XRP) is in 3rd position. Like chasing after cryptocurrency. And I think it's natural, because they have each way to attract investors out there.

I knew it would happen. It's hard to find a coin that would be able to overtake Ethereum and still sustain that position. Ripple though might be a good coin, although not a cryptocurrency that many are ready to hold for so long. Most of those who have are only looking for quick profit. Also Ethereum is been used more than Ripple, which invariable might mean more volume and which translates to its continuous existence in second place.

Ethereum still on the number two in the coinmarketcap because ripple reduced the price and the volume. But I think soon, the ripple will increase the volume, and I am sure that the price will rise again and I hope that the price can break more than 15k satoshi and even it can reach more than 20k satoshi. But still, this is too difficult to ripple to compete with the ethereum since the ethereum still too strong in the market although the price does not increase higher.

That's what it's supposed to be. The most used and most trusted altcoin is ethereum after bitcoin in the crypto market. Almost all ico's are ethereum based.

Ethereum will bounce back, there was price down pressure from ICO's that were selling their stack of coins in fear of loosing their value in fiat. That process has already almost finished and will only happen with new ICO's.

I agree with you yes ethereum is better than ripple because ripple is a centralised coin and bank is backing them on the other hand ETH is the king of altcoins. Ups and downs are part of the game well this what it happened to ETH now they are slowly trending.

Well, nevertheless it has a value. We all know about manipulations, but we can't deny that a big part of the daily trading volume is real, especially on higher levels, when it's about hundreds of millions USD. And Ripple's daily trading volume is $736,023,922 USD as of today.

Well, it's easy for the positive ripple trend to be followed by other altcoins, hopefully this is a good sign, hope in ending 2018 the altcoin price will experience a positive trend again.

IMO, Ethereum should always be having a bigger marketcap compare to ripple because look at the use case

Ripple are mainly focus in banks, financial institutions. I mean as a user you can sent/receive Ripple but look at most of the partnership, are bank related or remitance
Ethereum are more of a community usage coin like ICO, DAPP where most people will interact with it

Ethereum has the potential so buyers for this currency is high and it is always after bitcoin but if we look at its usage buying and selling of Ethereum is more than bitcoin and this is the reason that value of Ethereum is high among other altcoins.

Actually Ripple demonstrated some stubbornness to over throne Ethereum but could not maintain the lead. Factors that warrant that was the announcement made by XRP CEO that, [3]Three Companies now accept XRP as a method of payment in the real world, but, Ethereum been a superman quickly over throne XRP within a very short period of time.

I think, in the Crypto market, ETH has strong technology, which is trusted by new projects as the basis for development. In addition, and investors always appreciate and trust ETH. ETH may get to second number in terms of its market cap but lets understand that future of the ETH is far better than the XRP. Many people think that XRP is overtaking the ETH in market cap, true, but not true in terms of its utility. The fact that XRP is centralised as well as its emission is unlimited will always drag it down to nothing in the future. This is the very much fact of XRP which wont let it cross the ETH. Though it did once in the past then also it came down because that was just temporary rise in the crypto coin and nothin else.

It's true that XRP rising up rather a lot that day, and able to replace ETH for some moments, but it doesn't take long before it's turn back again and the place were returned to ETH that already taking the 2nd place for a long time.

It's not a surprise actually because the position on cryptocurrency market cap is not a permanent position. The cap of individual coin could rise as a result of many factor. And when this happen, there will definitely be some repositioning.

This is not a start for a bull run, it was just Ripple pumping due to the new partnerships and development news.
When it correct back in range $0.35-$0.40 it will be time for me to invest in XRP again.

Nowadays, the market is exposed to different reactions, which I think will change for a while. The fact that a significant transaction volume has emerged due to the increase in the investments made to XRP in recent years indicates that it will change its place in the ranking. I think this is just the start of aggreasive market. We all know that the demand for crypto was at its highest every last quarter of the year. The high price is just like a preview of what can happen next. Prices will keep on increasing soon.

The market had shown a lot of sign of another bull-run recently, but each time it is about to break, it fails. So, I think it is difficult to tell if it will start another bull market or not. As of today, no altcoins are bigger than ethereum. Even XRP surpassed ETH this September for the second time, I knew that was only for a short time. I believe that the market is gearing up for a huge bull run, if not this year, maybe next year.

And if ethereum can make their volume increase, then they will stay the number two position in the coinmarketcap, but if somehow, ripple can increase the volume, then ethereum will get the third places. This two coins still compete for each other and still try to get a strong position in the list and let the time will give the answer which coins that can get the second position after bitcoin. The price for the two coins still on the progress to increase and still to wait for what bitcoin wants to do and ethereum and ripple needs a good moment to increase again.

No doubt that eth will be back to top 2 again and top 3 the xrp because I believe that the demand of the ethereum is much higher than xrp and also eth is one of the most trusted coin so I believe that it will be back again to the top 2.

Ripple Altcoins is very strong too. To overtake ethereum at top 2, but ethereum is already recovers and back to number 2 again.

I don't exclude that within the time cryptocurrency top ratings will be led up by Ethereum. This currency has all it need technically to become a crypto leader. And for me it would be a nice experience to continue work with ETH.

The number two spot is symbolic thing, it actually has no meaning except to show what the marketcap is and how big it is. Ethereum is a big coin considering it can create other coins from its blockchain and all of the ICO's have been thru eth and people keep buying ETH. However that was when the prices were big, people kept buying bitcoin which increased the prices a lot but the owners of those ICO's did not spend all of it at once, which means the price didn't fall.

Now that people are not investing the owners are selling their ETH. However some other coin can go up while eth goes up which doesn't make ETH any worse. If eth increases 500% but ripple increases 1000%, ripple would be second but eth would be still alright.

I do not understand why the general capitalization of Ethereum is so important? It is more important to me how much one coin costs. The rise or fall of my investment in tokens relative to the dollar depends on the price of ETH.

Yes Etherium is very strong bacly to its second position. When Ripple came in 2nd position I was very surprised and thought that Ripple would hold 2nd place. But later I saw the eth back again on 2nd position very strongly.

ETH has restored and its price is getting stable that could not be worrying. I believe that ETH will beat BTC one day and its dominance will be killed.

So far it does look like ethereum has managed to regulate itself and claim back its spot next to bitcoin but the only problem that I currenctly have with it is that th price ended up correcting at a lower price and staying there. I just want to see some kind of recovery with the coin. I never doubted that the coin would come back to claim its position as the second best.

I think that the beginning of the bull should not be expected before the next spring. I'm sure the ethereum coin will leave the second place, but not this year and maybe not even next, but it will definitely go away.

I am not surprised that every time that  coin takes over, this coin keeps going back to collect its rightful seat. It goes to show how much of a great coin it is, and how much it is most likely to succeed in the market. It just has to do more than that though, stop making it so easy for these other little coins to snatch its seat from it.
