Gaelcoin development started in early 2014 to provide an alternative electronic currency for Ireland. How is Gaelcoin different to, for example, Spaincoin or Greececoin? First of all, we only pre-mined 1% of the Gaelcoins leaving the remaining 99% of Gaelcoins available to be mined. This gives the ownership of the Gaelcoin currency to the early adopters and the miners and not the developers. Many other currencies pre-mine 50% of the total avaiable coins which creates an enourmous risk as the the majority of the currency will remain in the hands of a few developers. Secondly, Gaelcoin is not an easy coin to mine. Compared to 99% of all the other cryptocurrencies that have been launched, Gaelcoin has a much higher mining difficulty. This is to create a more stable Crypto-currency as many “pump & dump” miners looking to make a quick buck would stay away from mining the coin. What is pre-mining? Pre-mining is a process of awarding the initial miners a bonus, which can then be used for further development of the currency. Gaelcoin is 1% pre-mined, which is a very small percentage compared to many of the other alternative currencies out there The first 100.000? There are a lot more people living in Ireland... Correct, many of the other crytocurrencies go for the 50% pre-mine approach with the promise that they will give an amount of their currency free to each citizen of the country they are mining for. However, we strongly believe that this approach will create a highly unstable currency as the majority of the currency will always stay in the hands of a select few people. It is impossible and impractical to give each and every citizen their share of the 50% pre-mined coins leaving a large number of coins unclaimed. This large amount can then be used to heavily influence the market price of the currency by the currency developers leading to market crashes or artificial inflation. Resident of Ireland? Here's the actual code: Code: static const int64 nTargetTimespan = 6 * 8 * 60; // Gaelcoin: 2 days Although the OP (and the code comment) claim 2 days, the code itself actually dictates a retarget every 6*8*60 seconds = 48 minutes on average, or every 24 blocks. Who announces a coin after mining has started ? Good Luck with your coin SELL SELL SELL Mining started for a short period for testing as we wanted to make sure the wallets are functioning properly including testing a pool as i've witnessed many altcoins releasing buggy and non functional coins based on the 0.6 bitcoin frame work. However the difficulty is still very reasonable and any coins that where pre-mined during the testing period will be given back to those who help make this Ireland's first successful coin. Looks like a lot of people are wasting their hashrate here....getting on a exchange will be difficult too as all exchange are now putting voting systems in place so pre-mine will be use for exchange and then dump there coin. High max coins + low reward + premine = SCAM It will take 180 days to equal the premine that the dev is taking. Quote 2min blocks = 720 blocks/day Think about that. After half a year, the entire mining community will have only as much COMBINED as this one person holds in his wallet.720 blocks/day = 36,000 coins/day 6,500,000 ÷ 36,000 = 180.55 days Not to mention this coin is "irelands currency" but there is no premine to give to the people. So its a coin for the irish people but not owned by the irish people. You fucking people need to call this bullshit when you see it instead of supporting and propagating this crap. Paddy has an idea - he takes the cash to the butchers and buys a sausage. They enter the first bar and order 2 pints of Guiness and down them in one gulp. When the barman asks for payment, Paddy puts the sausage into his fly and Murphy sucks it. The barman goes mental and kicks them both out.
By the tenth pub the pair are pretty drunk and Murphy says "I cant do this anymore my knees have gone". Paddy replies "your knees? I lost the fucking sausage in the second pub!" It will happen through an ID verification process, even though that restricts the anonymity for the first wallet deposits it will allow for a fair exchange. Secondly we are not force feeding this coin to anyone, and believe it or not there are still a large number of people that see Ireland as one nation including the North. The "operators" are available in their troll box for questions or help. Ran a few (maybe 3 or 4) bitcoins worth of purchases through them this last month without a hitch, and feel much better using them than some of the others. Title: Re: [ANN] Gaelcoin - Ireland's first Cryptocurrency - Launch 07 March 2014 Post by: eindbaasje on March 11, 2014, 01:01:00 AM The coin seems a little too ambitious.
For starters, you need an Irish politician or newspaper to write about this coin, a personal blog or independant newspaper/website press attention will do it some good. the Irish Indpendant already ran the Satoshi Nakamoto story a few days ago, but they "Unfortunately do not accept unsolicited articles at Independent Digital." Sinn Féin seems to be anti-Euro, maybe there's a friendly handshake to be found there somewhere. In all honesty if people are here to make lots of money by buying and dropping the Gaelcoin like what is happening to Aurora and Spain coin than this isn't the coin for them. Unlike what a bunch of people think within this topic I do want this coin to succeed as a digital payment option in Ireland with it's own value as that's what Bitcoin is about and so is Gaelcoin a way of purchasing & selling products (not euro's or dollars) Title: Re: [ANN] Gaelcoin - Scrypt - 0.8.6 Wallet - Fun - Fair - Minable Post by: vindyne8 on March 17, 2014, 11:41:00 PM It seems to be coming along nicely. After AuroraCoin, SpainCoin, GreeceCoin surely there should be more interest in this coin and it be at difficulty around 20 or higher but no.
I think there is a good chance this coin can be relaunched but we need to get some interest from the Irish side of things - for instance Ireland just won the Six Nations Rugby and maybe the dev can send the Ireland rugby team their 50 coins each in a personalised paper wallet sent by email (not that they need them that much). With a small bit of press coverage like that this coin could explode. Now I look again at this coin and I can solo mine it easily. With a small bit of press coverage like that this coin could explode. agree on everything. dev how's it going? That's a great idea actually , we got mentioned as well in the guardian today ! http://www.theguardian.com/technology/2014/mar/25/bitcoin-goes-national-with-scotcoin-auroracoin That is so awesome - shame the headline itself doesn't mention GaelCoin. I wonder if we could get them to change it - I'll try. And the developer has been on radio and in the newspapers talking about it. What makes IrishCoin unique? I believe it was also significantly premined for a very uncertain purpose - 'the tourism sector". Who controls these coins and what exactly are they going to be used for? Gaelcoin was premined also but for the purpose of paying out airdrop funds to Irish citizens who want to claim them. I have very little trust in coin developers who feel the need to premine a coin. Especially a 7% premine. Everyone should obtain their share fairly. Developers, businesses and individuals alike.
