The amount of cryptocurrencies out there is nauseating. Up in the thousands now.

Do you see a future where we're using a wide variety, or will one come out on top?

Technically, if one of these ICO projects create a be-all-end-all decentralized platform where all products and services are bought and sold, I guess it isn't impossible to one day have just one.

What do you think?

Only one shall prevail at the end. Forget about these thousand choice of coins, though there will be some other coins that can be used as utility or dividends but most of those worthless coins are going to be eliminated.
Bitcoin without any doubt is going to be the best and most used coin not only today but in the future too.

One is too little but thousands are too much.

We need a balance. Or instead utility, securities. Because if they become securities that mean it can be a different market based on profit.

It's not a battle on who will stay, but having thousands of coins in the market is very confusing, some of these coins are just imitation of existing coins and majority are just pump and dump coin and will die in a matter of months, this cycle will continue as long as investors keep investing in these kinds of ICO it's a vicious cycle.

The future is in blockchain technology. We will have to see if all different cryptocurrencies will be needed.

There is nothing to worry about cryptcurrencies becoming too many in numbers after all you as an investor will just pick the ones you think is going to have future. They are not all shitcoins but they are just waiting for adoption, it just need people who would used their platform. If that happens, the prices of those coins are also going to rise up.

There are lots of cryptocurrencies out there with different solutions to the problems we are facing right now, some of them are just imitating the use of the old one, most of the newly born token pretends that they can solve a particular problem using their product or services to take advantage of the hype given by the ICO's.

Yes, it's ultimately in the public's hands whether or not these coins' value increases and ultimately, whether or not democracy through decentralization is realized. There needs to be widespread everyday use of crypto! The problem is that mainstream media does not promote cryptocurrency and refers to it as dangerous (when it's only "dangerous" to the entities paying the media outlets).

We have more power than we think and and can contribute to the cause by simply using such platforms. (especially the latest decentralized marketplaces).

That's right do not think beyond the limit like thousands we know about our capability, there need to be a strict rule like price should not go down in a single day like Bitcoin cash did. Short investors cannot afford such a big loss.

One is not enough, in fiat we have USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, RMB... so in crypto i think we need more than only one. There are thousands cryptocurrency, it's too much and obviously we don't need too much like that. Strong coins will stay with us.

For currency, only one or very few should remain and the rest should be destroyed, and as for coins/tokens build as projects and is not a mean for payments we can have as much as we can but the quality should be improved a lot more than what we have now, projects build on just ideas without even anything to prove the possibility of being developed should be taken down, ICO should not be started with MVP, and we can go from there.

No, not at all. All I see are just some bunch of useless coins that will be useless for any future use. And I think it is so bad for crypto tha way.

Well i see future in some coins but i think thousand of them is too huge but whether you like it or not there are some coins that are going to evolve and come out strong. But who knows these coins, there are a lot on  market and new ones evolving making it to difficult to make some choices.

This is a natural selection. I don’t worry about cryptocurrency becoming too much. Not everyone can survive the fall of the market. Some projects will disappear, but others will remain.
Crypto is now good with many cryptocurrencies. Because it is possible to trade. If only a few coins remain, the market will die. Only trade makes blockchain technology evolve.

I think there's probably going to be thousands, I don't see this craze stopping any time soon.
If you think about it, it could be the case that cryptocurrency-based businesses will start replacing a lot of existing businesses. All opting to develop their own blockchain + cryptocurrency

In my opinion lots of projects will stay, it will not be the onliest cryptocurrency in the whole world, because in this case it should be implemented in every country like the only digital means. But too many coins will not be as well because there are lots of scams and just weak coins that will not win the competition. So there will be only strong coins I think. What exactly we'll see.

The future of the cryptocurrency I think covers everything. Because with all that, the increasing altcoin means that the cryptocurrency is very good in the future. We cannot do the future of cryptocurrency, but one whole. How that increase occurs can you see for yourself the future of cryptocurrency.

We don't need thousands of crypto which we can see on Coinmarketcap now but I think some of them will survive and will have the mass adoption next years.

I agree with you, the number of coins out there is too much and I believe more are still coming. However, I see a future with some coins, not one and not thousands. A lot of the coins out there wont stay long, just a few.

I also think that later if the ICO project is only aimed at listing and trading so that they forget the product that should be developed then, it is not impossible if crypto will be full of rubbish. on the other hand, of course there are still people who are still interested in this so they are addicted

I agree that there is just too many. It is already hard for me to monitor fifty cryptocurrencies. One, however, is too little. Maybe a hundred is a fair number but I do not see that happening. If one coin/token dies, ten will appear.

i can suggest that it will be reducing little by little. it's logical, isn't it? why on earth we need all of that, especially when there are many unreliable ones. another 10 years will clear it out

I don't think those thousands of coins will last long. I think that in the end there will be a small handful of cryptocurrencies that will really mean something. But if you do not look at the long term, then you can earn from these thousands.

Well i think that the good coins will stay but the average and below average coins will be eliminated by the system itself. They just won't have enough users and because of that they will gradually fade away.

I think that in the future, many crypto-currencies will die out and only a few coins will remain necessary. It is possible that there will be projects based on the blockchain system whose tokens will have to be used, since it will be convenient, but 90 percent will die.

Most of them dead tokens and they should be removed from the CMC or any other coinmarketcap site. that calculation of how much coins still alive doesn't have a lot of accuracy. I'm still seeing the future of crypto consider it's about the competition which platform will created a fully utility token.

i believed that cryptocurrency is the future currency of the world. it will be accpeted all over the world in the next ten years

There are almost 10,000 different altcoins and tokens in circulation right now (majority of them are either dormant or defunct). In the future, only a very small fraction of them are going to survive. My rough guess is anywhere between 10 and 200. 

It is likely that the future is still going to include thousands of cryptocurrencies, but that doesn't mean that we are going to use all of those currencies, at this moment I only use bitcoin and ethereum and it is quite likely that I will keep using only those two coins for the foreseeable future regardless of the number of coins that exist in the market in the future.

I think those are really extremes you got there. Does it have to be either ONE or a THOUSAND. Isn't that a bit too much to ask ?

I think it is possible that we can have about 50-100 good crypto in the future. Maybe not all the ones we have right now and there will be some new ones that people will love and get higher in the ranks but the main point is I doubt we will ever have one coin that is important with useless other coins nor we will not have a thousand coins that worth anything ever.

The important coins are usually the top 10 coins, even top 5 coins to be more precise. Those are make up for the 90%+ of the marketcap. Rest are just there because someone invented it and they did not think what they should do afterwards. People like even the 500th coin but that won't make it worth anything. Hence I believe the max cap will be 50-100 and not one or thousand.

talking about far future, i agree. that would be more reasonable and practical. now we have some kind of race, and the most successfull coin will be chosen as the one that all the world will accept

In the next few months we will see some vapourcoins disappear as they won't have enough funds to survive the bear market. Strong coins will survive and investors will stick with the top 100 CMC coins, aside from occasional worthy ICOs

Thousands of cryptocurrencies are not needed, but competition among the coins is healthy and the best ideas, use cases and coins or platforms will win at the end. I think that 10-20 top coins will outperform others  in the future and they will prevail but there will always be a leader like BTC is today.

will not reach thousands but also not going a little bit. only quality crypto and decent can and will be able to survive. every time a new crypto emerged and many were dead. This is a balance that would be needed so there will be created a crypto dead and junk on the market.

People are really confused as market gives a lot of options like where to invest. People who research on their own and invest are mostly get benefit. Also there are few people's who give prior on the top 10 coins of CMC. Because of their popularity in the crypto market they believe it last long forever. Guys believe it or invest in any coin for long-term success will be on your way. Crypto has a bright future there is no doubt in that, those who Invested before few years are millionaires today.

i think only a handful of coins will survive and continue to be used as currency. most of the coins that currently represent a currency will certainly not survive. but i also believe that some tokens or coins will perform other tasks and not be regarded as a currency.

   The future of Crypto currency is dependent on the consumer's participation on the said coin, Yes, its only one coin on the top among all the listed coins after each ICO, the support system, market structure, the fundamentals, stability of such coin will be the determining factors at the end, We've seen some coins disappear after few month it was launch in the market, simply because they did not obtained the support system from the consumer's investors in the market.Be patient and monitor what will happen next month....

In the future there will be a lot of cryptocurrencies, perhaps. much more than now. This is explained by the fact that the formation of new types of cryptocurrency is decentralized and accessible to everyone. Therefore, many use and will continue to use this opportunity. Tokens are owned by so many people and no one can gather them in one hand. In addition, tokens perform various functions, not a single coin or token can perform all of these functions. Therefore, over time, the number of different types of coins and tokens will only increase.

I think the only cryptocurrency is bitcoin, because it's not completely controlled by whales/sharks, it's unique encryption, I think only bitcoin can replace gold!

I think there will never be only one cryptocurrency because people are ambitious.  Others mimic other people and tend to copy others way of success.  Aside from that, there are huge variety of stuff to be catered by only one platform or cryptocurrency so the idea of having one platform/cryptocurrency for all stuff is impossible.

Think about it, in crypto world, we have to solve a couple things: Volatility & Security of wallets.
So, if there is a project and only one can solve this, then it is here to stay for good.

Well, there will be a lot of cryptocurrencies but very few will still be somehow available in the long run based on the fact that they won't be utilized in real life since they do not have a product. The truth of the whole thing is that most of the coins in the market right now do not have products. Some projects came with an idea, but in the long run, the team did not end up fulfilling their end of the bargain.

As time goes on, the only coins and tokens that will likely be in the market are those ones with product and not just anyhow product, but something a lot usable in the long run that would drive in sustainable demand.

I'm done thinking that bitcoin replacing gold. Comparing these two aren't no longe reliable, they are different simple as that.

No, I don't agree with that, there are lots of altcoins and I don't think they will be useless in the future.
Bitcoin maybe the original because it was first to gain popularity but the future is really uncertain, in the end, it still depends on how people will accept things.

Only a few will survive as most are just shitcoins with the main intention to gain money. I hope they collab and just combine these projects to attain mass adoption faster.

why should Bitcoin even replace gold? Bitcoin is unique and it was created not to replace something, but to create something new

I think in the future there will be many leading cryptocurrencies as the cache now exists. in different countries different cryptocurrencies will be popular and I think they will be adopted at the state level

every day there are many projects that offer various innovations that are useful for everyone. each ICO project has its own coin or token. if we want to use their platform we must have the coins. so in the future there will be many more altcoins made and all have their own functions and uses

Bitcoin for sure will continue to lead the cryptocurrency game. But not only it alone, having only one crypto won't be so cool. The thing there is that alot of these thousands of cryptos will die off along the line and only the surviving few will join along bitcoin. We might even seen some new additions come in along the line and still survive after some of the already existing ones have died off.

More coins in the market is good cause it gives more choices and make each other better by improving themselves as a healthy competition. Choices are good but not this many choices. Just a few, 10 good coins maybe.

with the increasing number of crypto, I think it will worsen the situation and future of crypto, because I have seen a lot of crypto being killed and that is detrimental to many people. when the loss occurs it will cause a decrease in investor interest.

In the cryptocurrency market, there are indeed a large number of coins / projects, but we cannot stop the creation of new projects, so we need to be able to choose the best ones. I also believe that their number will not decrease in the future and most likely we will use a lot of coins for payment, rather than one.

I see the future of cryptocurrency with a lot of coins because you need to create value, different coins will be used in different areas because the technical parts of the coins are not similar and some are better for conducting transactions and some for another  ;)

With the growth of cryptocurrency I think it won't go only for one coin in the future, as I believed there are still much hidden gems lies in around these top coins but we have to research which is the real coins and the shitcoins.

That is because everyone wishing to have their own cryptocurrency when they tried to create a new project. And sometimes the project coin doesn't has a significant use, and it end up overflowing the cryptocurrency world with unnecessary coins.

If one then it would create an imbalance. the price hikes will occur and make it be very expensive. at least it is also not the thousands as it will not all be able to attract interest and also not all work well. at least of the many who is there then some judged strong or on the upper position will survive and be a good choice.

here are thousands of coins now all offering renewal of cryptocurrency technology, they also offer investors with profits in the future, but I think this is good and bad, it's good to have healthy competition between platform development teams so that new ideas arise in the world of cryptocurrency, the result bad number of coins that die because of losing competition so many investors who loss.

ico's/projects coming out every now and then, there are also existing ones with different vision and mission. Well for me most of new ones do not create solution but money wherein all of them have a great project but eventually will not continue. It is better to have plenty of choices but see it is up to the investors on which will benefit them. It is like you are on a street full of restaurants but the best one will grow and others will just get by.

You are right that every ICO issues a decentralized product with a different concept, and if blockchain (decentralized) technology can survive then we will have a lot of digital coins here, indeed there are often ICOs who have the same concept and the best that will survive. This happens if the decentralized cryptocurrency and technology can continue to grow and survive among the declining levels of user confidence.

I tend to agree with you mate, different coins will be used in different transaction so we can expect lot of tokens/coins out there but somehow tens of thousand will be too much though. Some of the projects out there is just a redundant to another, hope this would be eliminated in the future.

If we only have no more than 100 cryptocurrencies, I think this market will be very good. The reason why the market is so bad now is because there are too many altcoins, and most of them are worthless shitcoins, and every day there are new shitcoins being created. I see a few, I suppose it doesn't really matter if it is a dozen or a hundred thousand. In a sense, one currency only doesn't really seem logical. People all want to control themselves and want the right to choose. I choose Bitcoin but I also choose Monero and Litecoin, and other smaller coins. I don't choose all of them to pay, some I choose to use as a speculative coin. I can't and won't do that with Bitcoin, so alts are, hmm, oh yes, the alternative :)

well, of course there will be a lot of cryptocurrency later. of course it will be in the form of tokens. however, only 1 crypt will be made into currency, and most likely it is bitcoin.

The problem now is not about having just one coin,we can have more than one to give room for competition in order to get the best,but the problems is that we have too many coin out there and this is not helping crypto sphere so much confusions everywhere because of too many coin.I don't think there can be future for thousands of coin.

The number one in line for all solution is bitcoin as you can see. Their the only project that could advance to fully the best crypto in the world. Bitcoin etf is a way to open ot to public and once this become a reality, we can simply say that bitcoin can be the decentralized buddy in the area of centralized network such as bank, and other businesses.

Now, indeed many crypto coins have sprung up but not all have good potential, I think for the future there will be lots of coins that die, strong coins and have good potential that will be able to survive for the future

There's someone that said like this earlier this year. I forgot who that guy is but I remember that same words he said.

Many altcoins are going to die next year and the next coins that will be able to survive are those established and for the upcoming projects, those tokens that are backed up by a real company. A coin that will have its real use which will be in favor of the holders.

Indeed there are thousands of coins out there because crypto is an industry that is free for everyone to make new coins. So the fake coins also have a lot of potentials. I think having a variety of choice and equal entry for anyone that will like to create his / her own cryptocurrency is one of the important idea of cryptocurrency.  We have billions of people all around the world and few thousands of cryptocurrency is very tiny compare to people it could serve!

probably will give you a big profit if focusing on one of the coins in trade and investment. but it would be at risk if this fall. have a lot of coins will enlarge the opportunities to get results but of course with a note in the selection of the coins to be precise. of the thousands that exist will be only left a few that deserve to be recognized globally later.

100s of coins will survive, bitcoin will stay too but we all know that bitcoin sucks in some areas and some other coins just perform better than bitcoin ,many coins will die on the end and many more will be released too.

I see the future to have more than 1 crypto currency, but not thousands. The strong projects will stay and that is probably less than 100 projects that are delivering, IMO.

One cryptocurrency can give you a future that thousands can't. Another way, gathering much cryptocurrency with values and potentials, when put the profits together gets one to a desired future. It all depends on planning and investments.

It is always all about the demand for the product in the long run and there is no way a project will have a future without having a useful product in the end. Now, this is something that a lot of the coins and tokens in this market don't have which is why they are basically classified as shit coins. But, there will be very less chances for a future which is having only one or two coins. When there will be more people are ready to adopt then obviously there will be a need for more cryptos.

As long as it is a shit coin there is no future at all and there is no way of sugarcoating things. A lot of the projects out there today cannot have real life usage and the only reason they are existing in the market right now is because it is still a speculative market. As time goes on, this will change when the market gets a lot matured.

I believe the coins which are serving same purposes may not sustain but we can be sure about unique coins to survive with us and more new innovate coins to arrive in future. This way I am expecting a future with more than thousand coins too.

The market has created good conditions for the release of thousands of coins and tokens. Of course, not all of them are necessary and have at least minimal potential. ICO has spawned many fraudulent projects. The scammers took advantage of this to attract investment ... But in the near future this situation will change. Empty projects will die.

Bitcoin is already on top the list, so it is the number one cryptocurrency. But there is not going to be only one, there will be many of them. And whether there is a thousand of them or just one doesn’t matter and you shouldn’t mind, you should only focus on the one you have chose and not worry about whether there are many or jot cause it’s not your business to do so. Just stick to what works for you and that’s all.

Even though there are many new coins/tokens that are created, but at the end there will be only coin/tokens that really has a quality who will be able to survive in the market. especially at this kind of moment, where most of the crypto are declining on their price.

Bitcoin is the leader of this market but that doesn't mean there are not other coins that offer solutions to very specific problems that bitcoin can not solve, so I believe that there is space for several coins to be in the market, the only thing that I do not like is that there are hundreds of coins that do not really offer any kind of utility and that should disappear because their developers are only interested in the money.

There are already many fiat currencies, so why should crypto not be like that? I just can not imagine that the whole world can (will) agree on a few currencies. That is why more than one currency will certainly grow.

They only followers and of course they will exist with different concept, system and solutions to survive. See that as market not future but how you can reach your target with your own skill, money and fix problems is your future. Bounty hunter, trader and investor is also follower. Need follow market with disciplines but also wise money management.

I think that such quantity of new coins affects the price of the oldest ones. In fact the price of the BTC, I would dare to say that it has been affected by this reason, because at a particular level I invest in several currencies.

More or less a hundred will do. Competition is still important in order to improve and upgrade so if there's only one left, it's not healthy at all. It can be manipulated even harder I guess.

I don't really care about crypto numbers right now, but I will look for work products from these projects into the real world so they deserve more attention, the rest I think they are only used for dumps and no more than that pump.

If you compare momentum with 2017 this is a way better time to start investing into cryto. Comparing with early adopters (2012-2014) prices are still high.

A single coin ruling all is a myth. There would be not just thousands but millions of coins that would be used on a regular basis in the near future.
We'd be using different coins and tokens for every field and some as intermediates between them.

I think there will be a lot of crypto currencies on this market. But I agree with people that are saying that only coins that should survive are coins that are able to offer a working decentralised solution based on blockchain.

I see a future with at least 10 best cryptocurrency where cryptospace user will going to utilize in the near future. If there is too much, the market cap is way too spread out. Why not put all the force in the best coins?

I don't know, I don't know about this yet, because of course the suit will be predicted, of course there are many incidents for the next few years and crypto is full of surprises, of course we are waiting for what surprise this crypto will give

I think crypto currencies will more popular in the coming years as digital money dominates and because of so many ICO project with corresponding altcoin , so I've seen plenty of altcoins in the future .

not with one but also not much to thousands. of the many that there could be that would be recognized only some of the best of the thousands of existing coins. but that does not mean that others will be forgotten just space the movements will be narrower than the coin which indeed recognized well in the future.

I'm sure that not all of the altcoins that available today will all be survive.

There are thousands of coins out there. But most of them are just some shit/scam coins that will eventually die soon. In the cryptosphere, diversification is of utmost importance. In order to have a sate investment, i do not look at just one coin. My focus is always on 4 or more, depending on the good ones that are available at that moment. You cannot expect all coins to give you good yield at the same time, which is one of  the reasons for diversification. If there is loss on one, you will be able to recover it on another.

I do not quite understand how this amount of coins can be applied. Maybe when they will be looks like securities ... One coin is enough as a means of payment. And you know perfectly well whats the name of this coin 8)

I just need a money which will be encouraging may privacy along with faster transaction features. Other than this I do not have any big expectations with most of crypto coins. I'm just saying these from the perspective of using coins for payments and not for investments purposes.

 Diversity is what makes the world beautiful and resilient. I wish our world can be split into different territories based our Ideologies,so  that every group can go and practice whatever they believe in. I hate to be forced to be part of things developed through emotions

The future I see is in few. Jack the CEO of twitter is obviously gearing up for bitcoin revolution from his latest tweet. I think soon, bitcoin will be globally accepted as the best form of transaction on the Internet and a couple of other blockchain projects like ethereum

I am for a huge number of tokens and coins, because only in this way can we really achieve decentralization, but this is also a very controversial issue, which is now difficult to really call that way, the fact is, now there is a BTC that manipulates the entire market.

While the cryptocurrency is developing, there will always be thousands of types of cryptocurrency. I think this is quite normal. This is the main way of developing and improving cryptocurrency. What will happen in the future with the number of cryptocurrencies is difficult to say. I think that a large variety and a large number of cryptocurrencies will continue.

As governments of countries have been making their own cryptocurrency there will be more cryptocurrency into usage in the future. Even now there is more than 2000 cryptocurrencies into usage. Finally each and every cryptocurrency is somehow associated to the bitcoin, which makes bitcoin to be the universal cryptocurrency similar to USD that we've got common for fiat currencies.

Each crypto in the market is created to serve a purpose(even though most of them are not yet there) one crypto can't perfom multiple functions, that is why there will be a couple of crypto that will shape the future of cryptocurrency and blockchain as well, diversification is not a bad idea, the power of decentralization.

Probably not one, but not a thousand coins. For some reason, I think there will be 20-100 coins in the market.

I see in the future only a few cryptocurrencies that independently move the market forward, all the rest will be only for speculation or will become extinct.

There will be numerous cryptos for sure especially as we see more platforms implmenting interoperability functionalites. Cosmos, Moac, Polkadot.. am I missing any?

Same with me especially with btc and eth, i don’t see any future from the shitcoins. There are some coins right now who are doing good but it wont last longer since its just a manipulation. The future is with the top coins so better to invest more on that and waste no time for this.

There are hundreds and thousands of washing powder firms in the world. There are also thousands of different toothpaste firms. So it is normal for an idea to have many different projects. You should be familiar with that.

Should remain the most necessary and technically unique coins, fast and stable, all the rest of the garbage is obliged to disappear after some time, because sooner or later people will become more selective to use cryptocurrency

I think in the future there will still be hundreds of crypto coins because we cannot prevent crypto growth. but in the end the coins will not last long and die. and I think only one coin is strong and recognized by the global community, bitcoin. bitcoin will become the main currency in cryptocurrency. I am sure that in the future more people will invest and use bitcoin.

I think not only one crypto will shine in the near future, not also thousands because its too much, but at least about hundreds of altcoins including the coins on top. Some of the altcoins just go dump its price even after that bull run in the future. Some coins makes it to the list of top 100, but this is just my presumption of prediction.

It's not too much for bitcoin and crypto can worth hundreds thousands in the future especially for bitcoin because there are less than 21 millions supply to be used by billions people in the world and bitcoin has started from satoshi's imagination.

There are so many cryptocurrencies, every day the altcoin is on the way to zero, but the real valuable tokens are very few.

I cannot imagine we are going to use thousands of cryptocurrency because although we are in the heyday of creating new coins and making it easier for companies and individuals, some of them just die down because investors and trader cannot keep up with thousands of coins to deal with I think the most that we can probably have is 200.

immigration encryption, repair encryption, express encryption, shopping encryption. they are so much more. some of them are rubbish. we need to find some gems in them. we need good judgment and luck.

Well, bitcoin seems already an asset right now.

There are other cryptocurrency which have a future. On the other hand there are thousands crypto which has no future at all.

I know a lot of us hate that but I think these thousands of coins will come to a point where the elimination round will occur which is through mainstream adoption. I'm expecting 2-3 coins that will be patronized in each category when that time comes like in the payment platfrom or ai platform.

the more, it will be confusing. I prefer a little, but it's very useful. if more and more come and end up losing value, they will only become a pile of rubbish. in the future crypto must be even more effective, with fewer numbers too.
