Title: HOW do I get merit?
Post by: stoat on January 01, 2019, 08:18:12 PM
I have been a memeber here for many years. And have made innumerable high quality posts educating and helping my fellow bitcointalk members but I have yet to ever be noticed and recognised for my efforts. I only noticed the merit system TODAY and I can’t believe I don’t have any!

Never mind,
settled since about a year to reward high quality posts. You won't need merits when using the forum unless you want to rank-up.

Do never ask for merit or try to buy/sell.

I can't understand how you qualify yourself as a good forum user when you didn't see an implemented running system since a year.

May be you should do some simple searches before asking in Meta, you can just read pinned threads about the forum rules and conditions.

this account woke up in june after zero posts in about 1 1/2 years during which time he learned chinese judging by the post history ;)

All English up until nov 2016.

Posting gap until June 2018

chinese posts appear in August 2018

Now back to English.

Stinks of hacked / purchased account.  Probably needs red flagging

The 1000 that I got was just from being a Legendary member, like the 250 that you got. The 226 additional was just people being nice to me.  ;D

Yeah, judging from posts like this, I'm very surprised you haven't earned merits:

Aw, crap you beat me to it before I fully read the thread.  Yeah, that was the one that stuck out the most to me.

I also have my suspicions about this account having a huge posting gap, and looks like someone else did as well:

this account woke up in june after zero posts in about 1 1/2 years during which time he learned chinese judging by the post history ;)

Stinks of hacked / purchased account.  Probably needs red flagging

對我會講中文。 I speak chinese fluently due to having lived there a long time. People can be bilingual without being a scammer. If you delve REALLY far back into my post history you will see I post in Chinese years ago too. Talking about ETH back before it was $2

But he did post this in 2015 and at least one more in the Chinese section (I stopped looking at the oldest posts after about 6 pages), in his defense:
最強的應該是《以太》以經快賣完了! 快點買!

That said, you JUST heard about the merit system?  I'm very skeptical of that claim, since you haven't exactly been inactive throughout 2018.  In any case, your posts in 2018 pretty much sucked just from a quick glance, and it's not likely anyone is going to go back to search for good ones you may have made long ago.  And tone down the font size, dude.

I think the original stoat (perhaps this guy) will likely be worth millions and millions of dollars by now.
I expect the real stoat did make some big bucks for some people here.
I guess posts that make people fortunes could be worthy of merit for sure but I don't think people look back in time to give merit unless you're satoshi really.

Pick another huge winner and then perhaps ...

Merits are directly proportional to font size so you have to make it at least 72 to get noticed.

Just FYI, I have doubts about it which is why I didn't give you a neg.

How is it you've been here this long and just discovered the merit system?  Do you have Meta on ignore?

And even if you did, there's been so much talk about it all over the forum that it would be extremely hard to remain ignorant about it for almost a year now.  Do you have an explanation for how you missed one of the biggest changes on bitcointalk ever?  I mean seriously, what you wrote in the OP sounds exactly like what someone who just bought an older account would say.

I have checked almost 20 pages but didn't get an address. OP was mostly active in altcoin discussion.

True. Anyway, OP was promoting ETH from the beginning while now I can see a lot of posts in Lending which is also a good sign of hacked/sold account. I have checked some posts of OP from past and compare with now. I barely got any changes though.

Even if you post a quality one , when a user do not want you give a merit it is only a normal one because giving merits to someone depends in the users of this forum if they will give you or not. There are post that are that quality but some users give them the merits its because there is no definite users to give merits. And even the post you made is helpful but they do not want to give merits in your posts you cannot do anything about it.

One of the things that is important in creating quality posts, mods, admin, and other members is always effective in assessing whether to choose proper or not, in giving merit. merit system is a policy, for other members based on the qualifications of posts very useful and high insight, and quality, which is fair and reasonable. Fair and reasonable means regardless of political background, race, color, religion, origin, gender, etc. if you feel confident to do the best you can for other members and the Bitcointalk Forum.

I think the time has come to demote users with zero earned merits  :P so that we don't feel bad when we see a post like this being posted by a Sr. member who claims to have been a member for many years in the forum but doesn't even know what's going on around.

We already have that and it started to Juniors. And as I think of it having those other Ranks to get demoted then I guess we will be flooded again by numerous and countless of posts whining about being demoted. And some will surely cheat on their Merits again just like what happened before when Theymos implemeted that 1 Merit requirement for Jr. Members.

Though its still a good thing to let us see those high ranking spammers across the whole forum.

It's really very funny that a person with such a high rank cries that he can't get merit. I also do not understand why the author uses such a stupid signature.  ???

Let it be. Those whines would start to disappear as soon as they realize it is not really helpful and they won't get their rank back for free but they will have to work hard to get it back. If they can't reach their respective ranks after the demotion, then they never really deserved it.

And some will surely cheat on their Merits again just like what happened before when Theymos implemeted that 1 Merit requirement for Jr. Members.

They can't. They can get 1 Merit by cheating and rank up to Jr. member, but what's next? Such cheaters would never even make it to Member rank-- Full member and above would only become a dream for them.

At least not if you speak the truth and tell people they’re Wrong.

I should get a few merits for saving anons from being FUDDED out of buying ETH back in the day. I think I managed to make hundreds of people rich.

To all the 1 year old accounts accusing me of buying his account. Fuck off lol. I was on this forum since you were a twinkle in your daddies eye. No I don’t pay attention to the merit system, I don’t come here a lot recently because the altcoins section got flooded with INDIAN SPAMMERS rendering this forum useless.

I salute your bitchery, sir.  I didn't think most of the spammers came from India, but you might know better since I don't visit the sections you seem to.  I don't think they're bots, either.  I think there are live, drooling idiots with limbs that move but have only brainstem activity behind the keyboards through which those shitposts were written.  It's as if The Walking Dead got fused to bitcointalk somehow.

That second part of your quoted post above made me chuckle.  That's one way to get merit from me.

I’m sick of reading posts which are 3-4 lines of utter drivel.

It’s obvious who they are.

Just get a mod to flag and ban every single one of those motherfuckers. Delete their threads. This forum is unreadable.

It’s not rocket surgery. You can spot them a mile away.

That's kinda racist... I'm pretty sure there are spammers from all over.

Now gimme all of your merit so I can pile it up with my Beans. lol

By the way, i'm agreed with you, merits aren't something to force, they come with the good quality posts. Begging them will not help, but sadly a lot of users want to grow their accounts but they just can't get merits. Was a smart move to finish with the spam but a pain in the ass for the newbies. No one say it would be easy to grow in this forum.

<…>Was a smart move to finish with the spam but a pain in the ass for the newbies. No one say it would be easy to grow in this forum.
It really should not be that much of an issue for Newbies to get a couple of merits is a short time span, if they set their mind to it (and have a decent amount of active grey matter). For those who want to rank-up, the bottleneck created by the Merit System resides in the mid-to-high ranks, where getting merit at a fairly even rate to a 1 per day ratio is extremely complicated (see re: Isn't this merit thing getting more monopolistic politics? (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5093115.msg49060742#msg49060742)).

You post "test" three times on January 1 before posting this thread. It seems like you bought this account that time knowing the last post was made last December 15. Its intriguing you have many merits with that kind of post. Now i know why i didnt get any merit. I guess i should copy your comments of wisdom.

New Year, New Life,New Account, Merit me or you will die.

Agree, but when i say that words i was thinking about the Activity, Merits are an important fact but to get 1000 activity mean 1000 days, that's close to 3 years to grow an account from newbie to legend. Get merits is much easier than getting Activity. In one day we can get those 1,000 merits, but there is no way to speed up the activity.

Should thos thread be titled, hi I bought this account how do I rank up?
Yeah, I guess it's more like a bought account than any other thing explainable. How could he have not known about the Merit system institutionalized about a year now? I wonder how he even got the few merits he has to start with. As for his post history, there isn't anything remarkable there.

Shoot for the stars and if you miss you might land on the moon.
Well the best is to always ignore merit chase and aim for more. Aim to be a better forume user aim to give solution to problems of others find a field you are comfortable with and just be yourself
OP has some good point also. This merit is for those really good users and for the average users that were not able to post good qualities thinking that their best is not the best of others will relatively will not going to receive merits. We have different knowledge and capabilities that probably may not apply in this forum. Just take example from a fish. Do the fish climb trees? No, but they are good in swimming. So others may be good in some areas but not here. Sad merits are not for them. LOL

I have been a memeber here for many years. And have made innumerable high quality posts educating and helping my fellow bitcointalk members but I have yet to ever be noticed and recognised for my efforts. I only noticed the merit system TODAY and I can’t believe I don’t have any!
OP you have to make your best of the best shots and get merits. YOu have been here in the section and this is where you can have the chance to get merit. LOL

Merit isn't about having an outstanding knowledge in a particular subject. In your opinion, those who are not too good at bitcoin technical aspect or blockchain, will not get merit.
It's not like that, in fact. I barely have a lot of knowledge on bitcoin. I can only know how to send or receive, lol. But I got 100 merits till now.

Oh! Coming from you. I can't believe it :-\.  I look into your post history but I can't find the "innumerable high quality posts" you are pertaining about. Are you even aware that you are guilty on what you are accusing to others — that you are also a spammer? Nevermind.

Anyway, much better if you will be just patient instead of complaing because if you are really deserving for a merit then it will come naturally. Good luck.

Just note this the way life is not fair, is the way you might not get the pay as you feel!! Just keep on doing what you do am sure at some point someone will see your stuff and decide to reward you!! I don't think it can be a forceful request because it is a personal decision and anyone can decide how to spend the merit!!

Also, note what is quality to another might not just be to another, so hope your post get in front of one interested in the topic you write about

Let's see how the end of 2019 will have been

Tip no.1 to get merit: use default font size .

Welcome.

Very true, reading the post I could hardly focus on what he was asking in this post. All my attention was on the font size only.

OP, you can get merits here by making quality posts. You can also go through the merits stats page and see the frequntly merited posts. Then you will get an idea of what tyoe of posts are being liked and merited.

I'm pretty sure OP already knows that. But as expected, the reason why OP isn't gaining merits is.. *drum roll please*

OP's posts suck. What a surprise.

Nice signature LOL :D
but WTF is it?

This rather long paragraph consists of exactly 4,000 characters. Spaces, punctuation marks and carriage returns do count. With regard to those spaces, note that if you typically type a double-space at the end of a sentence as I do before beginning a new sentence in the same paragraph, the second space will be deleted automatically, i.e., all but the first space will be ignored. The total number of words in this paragraph is 733 and the average word length is 4.4 characters. The average number of words per sentence is 22. At the end of this paragraph is simply the alphabet starting with the letter A and ending with the letter H, in bold, to make it come out to exactly 4,000 characters and so you'll know when to stop scrolling down in order to see how big 4,000 character is if you want to add a message to the guestbook. Whew. This paragraph begins to repeat at this point, so you can stop reading now if you want to, which I would suggest, or you can choose to read it all again. You’ve got lots of merit how did you get it?

The 1000 that I got was just from being a Legendary member, like the 250 that you got. The 226 additional was just people being nice to me.  ;D

People are nice to people on here? xD
