Not until we start seeing crypto scammers get arrested for real many new investors won't join,I have friends that won't join crypto because of scammers running away with ICO funds forever ,no way to arrest them and get the funds out of them,the few news I read about getting some scammers is not enough ,the more there is an effective way the less scammers will harm crypto

this is one of the major reason why many people want regulation to enforced so that investors will stop losing money to scammers. this is one of the reasons why SEC has come out to try and regulate crypto activities and we have seen the effect of this on the market and also some project owners and left the project and ran away while some have been apprehended, others will soon be caught. this things have changed because of the fear of SEC.

You don't have to invest in an ICO to join the crypto market. You can also invest in solid / well known coins. so the ico debacle shouldn't be the reason to gain more crypto investors. but you are right, ico scammers should be followed harder and get a fair punishment.

It's about legal actions, most of investors let scammers running away for free maybe because they have just invested couple hundred or they think "ah no problem, just a small money". Maybe regulations from each country is needed to prevent scam project getting funded. However, there are still many countries that blinded by fiat and see that cryptocurrency is a garbage or a useless product and end up banning cryptocurrency.

It is like imagining there would be no murders because of cops. The regulation will calm the situation, but the scammers will continue again. Anyway, if you want to walk around places that are not scam, trading money pairs will be better. Because it is normal to encounter scammers in the decentralized system.

I think Cryptocurrency decentralized nature doesn't really allow relevant authorities to actions on these scammers as much as we would like. Recently, I read in the news that Bitconnect CEO is still facing legal battles after being indicted in ICO scam

I don't think that we could really do anything about it besides we don't even know if the name that they put on their informations is real.
What if the name or picture on their informations are fake and the cops made some move to arrest them,They could arrest some innocent people because of this fake informations.

Yes, and i believe that was the real reason for the big scamming situation in 2018. Think about that, you steal money from the public and no one can stop you or punish you. ı believe that after the first Scam in the blockchain history started this because there was no penaalty for that. After the bad people learn that, they all started to produce scam projects or when they collect money from the people they just ran away with those money.

Your friends are doing it correctly, they shouldn't invest to something that they doubt and aware of what's the current situation. It is no longer a hidden situation that the ICO market is full of crap projects that are likely to be scam.

Few are probably legitimate projects but they are rare to find because of the vast projects that keep on coming to the crypto market. There are gov't agencies that are following some project developers and would probably sue them.

The only way for them is to die because we don't have any choice they are very harmful to the crypto since last few years ago and until now. I'm not sure what you really said. Scammers will always be there, no matter what rule/law is applied. You must have done proper analysis before investing your money, it's your money, your responsibility. If people do enough research, they will barely lose or be scammed.

i believe scamming activities has reduced now in cryptocurrency because people are now wiser and things have changed so it will be difficult to perform any type of scamming. SEC will hunt them down.

That's none reason to not to invest. Scammers to some extent are being sought after depending on the jurisdiction they belong to. But as we realize the crypto nature, it's largely the investors who should research enough before investing in any project. Crypto was a get rich quick scheme in the past but is not as now.

It is so sad that many people are trying to earn in a legal way and then this scammers just do fraudulent things and make scam thingy and just get some other people's money for free. I think there is no law for scammers online, yet they are continuing what they do to make easy money from what they scammed. But i hope they would come such time that scammers can get rid off and be banned forever here.

That's one of the risk in joining crypto specially if you are joining ICOs wherein it is not regulated by law so that means it is hard for us to prosecute those scammers with bags of money. I've been there, cryptassist had a great project but suddenly the devs are gone even the CEO but I am still here trying my luck and using some of my knowledge to earn more in crypto. If only we have a governing body that will prosecute these ICO scammers, ICO will be ok and many investors will not shift to IEO or STO all investors wants a safe environment when investing, and they are more than willing to support and pour money in ICO.

Then try to encourage your friends to invest with bitcoin and other altcoins than to introduce him to fake projects and scam ICO's, he might be missing something if he will only focus on the scam projects. We know that those scammers are there with shitcoins so if you are a wise investors you will put your money on those sure coins that is already in the market. In as much that there are a lot scammers in the crypto space, both old and new investors should understand that this world we live in is made up different kind of people with different mind set on how to earnn money. we are all in charge of our own safety and we should understand risks in the crypto space and also make it possible to avoid investing into projects we have little knowledge about.  If you allow yourself, you will get scammed off your money.

From what i know CEO of Zenminer and Paycoin (XPY) Josh Garza was arrested in past. I think for now, scammers or maybe bad developers, not means to say all developers is bad. But some of them can run free because their disclaimer in Whitepaper that said if investor take responsibility of their investment by themself.

Scammers can run freely and easily after they make to scam people because there are no consequences on what they do, or there are no offense put unto them so they can get right away on doing fraudulent act. I hope there are moderators out here that investigates the personal information of people who are scammers and blocked them in all of projects, blocked all their accounts and also ban them from joining in any projects.

I agree. This is one drawback of crypto being (pseudo) anonymous is that people behind can just run off with investors money. So that's why we need to DYOR and investigate first before we invest our hard earn money here. There could be crypto regulations that can help at least minimised those scammers, however, this is a on-going debate in the community. So just be careful out there.

I believe we can still convince our friends to invest in crypto, but this time not in ICO, buying bitcoin and solid projects in the altcoins market now is a good decision because the timing is correct, market is a little bit bullish son it has a good momentum and price could rise.

Now I strongly believe on crypto regulations for crypto currency long run . I have seen lots of ico in 2017 and 2018 they rais d huge money now they now disappeared one of the project I sen is hero or paw hero project raised more than 50 million now they disappeared with investors money net even lots of projects.

Whatever they do makes many people suffer. We must take concrete actions more carefully and not be easy to trust others. The online world has big profits but there are also risks. Crypto has been going on for a long time and scammers have been around for a long time. We have to do research and if you are in doubt it is better to choose another project.

I have been saying this for long...the whole industry has to do concrete steps to contain these scammers otherwise the bright future we are looking for can be compromised as many victims are scared to get back into investing again and the reputation of cryptocurrency is being damaged. The problem starts with the fact that it is easy to start a project and proceed to crowdsale without getting vetted or getting the necessary permits to show that the people behind the project are real and not hiding anything. There must be a way a KYC for these project proponents instead of just requiring us to submit documents I think we should also require these people to do the same.

ICO causes people a lot of negative emotions. Most of them do not even enter the market and simply go nowhere with the money of investors. Those ICOs that enter the market cost many times less than what was stated in ICO.

That is not the real investors for me. Because the real investors will do a research for him to not get scam by those ICO. Where there is money, there is a crime. Scammers are everywhere and that's the reason why we have to be alert and smart all the time.
Investing is a risk because even scammers are entering it at times. We have to be observant and alert all the time.
Having enough knowledge about crypto is our advantage.

According to the articles that I've read online a few months back and according to my experience, ICO is a very dangerous kind of investment since you're not either sure if after the ICO the project will be successful or not, many will use the project/coin or not, etc. also there are some professional scammers who are making a promising project and have a professional whitepaper as well as fake team but in the end it will end up a scam.

If the project is successful and listed on exchange, I've experienced a 95% loss from my original investment... So I may say that if you're going to invest just invest into trading and to a coins that has a large volume such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, EOS, etc.

This is why some want to government need to be involved here so police can take actions whenever there are scammers. Some projects are being ended up to being scam once they are not able to reach their target some are just planning to skip regardless if they reach the target or not.

tell me one thing why these Scams are still going on? well, its because these are profitable to them. imagine running a signature camp and not actually paying anything. you will get users info, their documents(because of KYC) and their other useful recourses and time. people are actually working for free advertisement. if you hate this then get some skills and try a hard way like job4btc.

ROFL... do you really think that the SEC will be worried about bounty hunters not getting their rewards? That's not the case. Unless some Wall street whale losses at least a few million USD in one of those scam ICOs, the SEC is not going to do anything. And regarding the sig campaigns, they can always say that no monetary losses resulted from the scam.

That is why we need to research more about the project or groups so we can prevent from getting scam. The scammers will always try to steal people's money in many ways, and it is our job to be careful to decide. As long as we can be careful, I am sure that the scammers cannot get our money and they will hide for a while until they find a new way to scam people again.

I think there have been few that got arrested as well but it all depends on the country and the laws.

For example, if I am not wrong there was this cloud mining operation something like zenhash or something, I am not entirely sure about the name but they scammed their customers via cloud mining operation far exceeding what they had and built like a ponzi scheme on that and when they couldn't pay people and suddenly crashed all prices they were sued and authorities were given the information and they got literal jail sentence for it and in jail because of it.

Now that is not common but mt.gox was sued as well and I guess karpeles has some jail time too (not sure about this) but definitely got sued and went to court, so there are examples of trouble for scammers but that is not stopping them at all in third world countries for example.

Unfortunately, this is what the industry has become as a result of no genuine presence of regulations. Yes, scammers are getting more creative. Many of them don't stint on the quality content of documents and presentable design of web sites. Since they already know that their costs will still pay off.

I don’t see this stopping soon as long as we are running on a blockchain technology, you know that the main purpose of a blockchain technology already for peer to peer interaction, and how it is able to fully create an anonymous identity for its usage, but since we user has personally found a way through it ourselves to make money, we just have to deal with it, because that was not the original purpose of it development.

It is left to us to use every means that is within our power to put an end to this ICO scam, which the only way we can do so is just to continue to deeply make a research on the projects first, if we make a research and we are sure of the project, then we can assist our friends by introducing such certified project to them, which would also encourage them to do so after seeing the positive effect.

Well it is sad to say that scammers are really running freely, scammers has really a great effect on the crypto feild and there are really so many scammers that is really earn a lot by victimizing people inside the crypto feild. So i think we need to do more research on how to avoid scam for good.

Of course they are getting arrested if their identity is a known one, we have responsible judicial system that would not ignore that despite the fact they are yet to support cryptocurrency, but fraud is fraud, I have seen one or 2 cases of people that has been arrested and still in jail, but that was easy for government to do because o their identity that was deeply know.

The whole game plan is still in the hands of we investors, there is need for us to do more work in this regards by making sure that a project team is well known and can be identified with a project, any project that we cannot get a clear or direct interaction with the team and also confirm their identity, should not be taken into consideration for investment.

To tell you frankly, the cryptocurrency's condition in our prestigious country is in really bad reputation. They used some ICOs as a networking business and that being said will no longer trusted by many individuals here. Today, a lot of information on how not to become a victim of a scam. In order to become an investor of a project, today you need to have knowledge of how to analyze the project itself. The organizers should be ready for any questions, and not hide anything about the project. If you have even the slightest suspicion of deception, then most likely you will be right.
Therefore, until everything is organized at the legislative level, it is worth relying only on your knowledge. Do not jump into the project without solid confidence, but carefully re-check everything.

Everyone must do a little researched before she/he join in any project involving cryptocurrencies. Since the cryptocurrency is promoting decentralization and also include anonymity, it means  that everyone can used crypto-currencies for their purpose wethere its good or bad without revealing their true identities. thats why if anybody has not sure what they are doing in terms on investing in ICO's IEO,s STO think twice just invest only with those platform that comply regulation, invest in IEO on reputable exchange like, Binance,Bittrex,Kucoin and other trusted platforms are least chances of being scam in the end.

Yes, I think the first line of defense of us not being scammed is to become more  aware and vigilant on those projects that shows signs of irregularity and we should try to inform and warn other people in the community. But then again, there should be a way to apply the full force of the law and bring the perpetrators to justice so that it will not be replicated with others who have malicious mindsets.

My question is why would you be careless to the extent of giving your money to scammers .since you already know that the crypto community is filled with scammers that are looking for money to make away with, it is left for you to do your best in avoiding them as much as possible. Cause if you keep on waiting for when they will start getting them arrested ,you will just be wasting your time for nothing. I think the big enemy of Crypto is scammers. All trust will be lost if it has been hit by scammers. I think Scammers must be destroyed immediately, at least we should be able to know, if we already know, I suggest giving information on social media or here so friends know.

One of my concerns is that can crypto be outrightly scam free? The reason for this is that, we might not see regulation any time soon. The government is also waiting for more adoptions first before regulating. The problem now is, investors might not want to adopt considering the rate of scam.

Get connected to their most active community channel like Telegram or Discord. (See their updates and monitor for somedays)

There's nothing you can do about it except if you know who it is and where they are living, then you can decide to go after them since you have their identity and you can easily trace. This was the main problem why the image of the ICO became bad in the sight of many community here in the forum.
And why IEO became better than ICO according to what I had observed about it. That's why even I'm not in favor of regulations
on crypto, despite our coins will get steal by the scammer, I think it will be fine for me to implement that things.

If government regulate ICOs, i am believe scam ICOs can be eliminated. People would scam others because they know that law can not touch them as long there is no regulation about ICOs.

It feels very much sad when we see scammers walking free without any worry of being arrested or a shame. For example, many victims are complaining that BiteBTC is a scam and has scammed many traders and investors out of millions of rupees. But it is openly operating and looting traders. Most interestingly it has not been arrested despite several complains.

ICO projects have had a bad reputation on this issue and this problem has become big in this industry, if we no longer believe in investing in ICO then finalizing the choice to only invest in bitcoin and other coins with high trust is the solution. Even though we need more time but at least our money will not be taken away by scammers.

I do not think that 85 percent of ICOs are initially thought of as a scam. I think that this happens in the process of project development. it all starts when people get a lot of money and then they are starting to want to steal it

but everyone has to face there result for their doing at the end so it will not been possible in all the time to make a scam and fraud the people to get their funds definitely changes will make everything to be better field.

Even if ICOs would still be trustworthy enough I don't think there is much profit to be made there since the chances of some ICO becoming successful have dramatically lowered because there are some many coins available on the market right now. We already have dozens of successful projects on the market and hundreds of altcoins available so I don't really think we need more than that.

Things do really need some risk to earn something and that's just usual with investment with ICO's.
You do need to take a risk to make some profits but it wont really be that easy yet ico's become shitty nowadays

The legit team now are already eyeing for an IEO, they will not gonna have their crowdfunding in ICO as they know it will not sell anymore.
IEO is the trend now where people also give their trust, and we will know that the team really want to make their project succeed as they also need to finance the necessary expenses for listing.

ICO could be in safe hands only if we get the system regulated. I think it's a misleading thought, an IEO can just mean that some scammers have enough money (from previous scams for example) to do a sell on an exchange.

Scamming is the easiest and the best way out there among the scammers to make quick easy money. The unbridled coin launches is the sole reason behind why so many people lost their money to fake projects. With law and regulation, it prevent scammers running free. The problem with scammers right now is they can not touch by law because a lot government not regulating ICO or cryptocurrency. People who scammed must be already make research but in the end, its depend on developers team.

SEC regulation can regulate on ICOs. If SEC involve in cryptocurrency market, i think its good decision and good for cryptocurrency market because investor will trust more to invest. SEC hands can reach all around the world and its good to reducing scam ICOs

Fraud in crypto currencies is increasingly rampant. A lot of fraud in crypto currencies because the perpetrator has no sanctions that are bound. If the offender commits fraud then they do not get a real punishment. They remain free without bearing any punishment. They cheat and they take all the funds that should be used to run the ICO. Indeed there are no strict sanctions in crypto currency but I only hope that crypto currency players have a knight spirit and play healthy without harming others.

Well thats true and thats the risk you have to take when you are dealing with ICOs. I also agree that scammers should get arrested but I know its very hard to do since you are dealing with crypto which is very discreet. My advice is not to invest in ICOs if you are too worried about scammers. You can still try crypto market if you invest in trusted coins like bitcoin and ethereum.

Most of those ICOs remain completely anonymous. So there is no way (extremely hard) to take catch those culprits.

At the time of registration of the project, they certainly had an address with the country where they founded the company. And in that country, of course there is legal legality about crypto or refers to public fraud. So you can report to the authorities in that country.

depending on the country the scammer is located and how the country treats such people or how the country react to such crime. You know in US they take scammers as a very serious crime and will not waste time to prosecute them. So if some countries take this very likely,  then you would see a different approach.

But most of the projects in ICO are not in the US, there are only few projects like CENTRA that was considered as they violated the law in the US, and they got jailed IIRC, so other projects are now smarter, they learn from the big mistake of CENTRA and they run their project in different country where crypto regulation is still lax.

Well i think there are still so many scammer that are running freely after they do scam to others, specially in crypto, in crypto there are so many ways for scammer to earn by doing a lot of scam things. I guess the scam rate now is getting lower, AFAIK, most scams are from ICO but since investors have found IEO a better way to invest than ICO, so those random teams who will just create to scam will not be able to attract investors again.

I really don't think they are, some countries deal with scammers and give them the punishment they deserve. So I would say that it depends on what country the scammer is, as I know very well that the United States don't tolerate scammers
