Facebook and Libra are focusing on Financial area. Is there any other area that blockchain can be used?? It's hard for me to imagine anything else.

Don't compare Blockchain and cryptocurrencies, these are absolutely different areas! While blockchain is a technology, bitcoin is just one of its use cases.

blockchain will focus on areas that require fast payments and low fees. It is possible that businesses in different countries want to cooperate and exchange products, they will use blockchaind technology to make money transfer faster with a much cheaper fee than bank deposit or visa .
That's the maximum use of blockchain and in the future, most large businesses have to use the blockchain.

There are lots, almost of the financial institutions can be a means for blockchain use, all industries that requires trading, storing value and securities. I am thinking of dividend for farmlands, if I ever made a coin, It would be used in link with crops and other edible plants, I am a nature lover and the people with in so I want to give them the best technology as possible as I could, but sad to say don;t have the funds and team to do so.

Although this area have been touched by block chain, but in my opinion, further explorations and improvements particularly in the way it is advertised-- HEALTHCARE. Yes this is true. Blockchain can be applied for almost every industry that's operating. It's not just for the financial industry/institutions but it can also be used for the transparency of data for industries that wants to make their process visible.

i haven't seen many compelling use cases outside of using cryptocurrencies as programmable money, especially censorship-resistant money. bitcoin is obviously the prime example of that.

blockchains could also be useful for decentralized digital asset trading, but that isn't exactly a new use case. it's just trustlessly transferring value back and forth, essentially what bitcoin does.

A potential use for Blockchain technology, is that it can be used for storing intellectual property. Authors can store an encrypted document on a distributed blockchain registry, representing a digital certificate of authenticity. Access to the encrypted data only being available to its authors & other authorised parties. This ensures an immutable evidence of ownership and a chronological recording of transactions performed on the object.

Smart contracts can be used in the sale & licensing of intellectual property automating associated regulatory & business operation. Users can make payments for the use of inventions directly to the owner, without the use of third party institutions.

Smart databases can be used for all that too, yet people are so tangled up in the blockchain hype that they believe it will change industries and potentially even the whole world. The most ironic part is that databases exist for decades, but now blockchain has become a thing people start worrying about efficiency and whatnot.... It was never really a problem to begin with.  :D

Better IT management is what most industries lack. Cost saving is the main reason IT isn't paid much attention to while it has been one of the most important aspects to focus on in the last decade or two.

Where most of these 'blockchain' companies are going to screw up is by believing they, or mysteriously altruistic strangers, can run a properly useful and secure chain without a financial incentive. Why would you bother unless there's something in it for the person providing the actual platform you're hammering?

If it's between interlinked and likeminded entities then there are and always have been shared databases for that. 

It's exactly the same as intranet vs internet. Masses of companies reckoned they could create their own internet that was 'better' then reality dawned on them as they were roundly ignored by people running towards the real deal.

but a company can create a private blockchain for its internal use without financial incentive

Blockchain can be used in almost every field of our lives because we are in an era where information is very important, hence its management, security, dissemination and storage must be a topmost priority. Blockchain technology is the best way to store information and data under good protection yet transparent. This feature is made possible by the digital ledger of the Blockchain technology.

As others mentioned, blockchain doesn't equal cryptocurrency, and the former can be implemented in various ways (and some of them are already our reality). The article avikz linked in the post has a great list of various applications. A lot of them are in the area of finances one way or another. I'd just like to add some use cases that the article doesn't mention. Blockchain voting is one of them, and there have already been experiments with people voting for things this way. Another thing is the weather forecasting, but I don't know much about it and whether it's been already implemented. But the list is limited by our imagination, not by blockchain technology.

It can be used but will it be? We don't know. Blockchain in itself is the evolved form of data if you ask me, you can use it for other stuff as well but as a database that is p2p and will never be deleted even if thousands of servers get burnt in a fire is the epitome of the level we have come in technology.

A whole nations citizens information regarding their work, their taxes, their medical info, their personal family numbers (married, single, children, no children etc etc), and many more things can be stored in just one blockchain forever and can be shared to hundreds of different locations and even allowed citizens to have limited access to just carry it would mean nobody could ever hack it and change anything since its blockchain and decentralized but also keeps it alive no matter what happens for centuries.

I don’t think blockchain as a whole is even for financial purpose alone, blockchain has been used for so many purposes aside the financial aspect of it, and I think the aspect of it enabling a decentralized system is not limited to fiancés alone but other parts of a project too.

we could also see how people have used it to create gambling applications, Sites and other wide ranges of application, and Bitcoin is just an application burn out of it too called cryptocurrency which is being used for digital payments, so blockchain technology can be used by large firms to record transactions and for any other purpose such developer thinks it could be useful for.

It's only decentralized if assets themselves are decentralized, otherwise it just like stablecoins - a company holds the actual assets and releases tokens, but everyone is at complete mercy of said company.
This is the problem with all these "putting X on blockchain" ideas - they always end up with intermediaries, and what's the point of blockchain if there are intermediaries?

Other ideas that people generally parrot are also questionable - no one has shown any detailed proof how exactly blockchains are better than traditional databses and data sharing schemes, people somehow think that blockchain magically makes everything secure and decentralized.

I've seen some companies testing it out in supply chains and registration information like titles and contracts.  None of them seem to be taking off though and the biggest use case remains to be censorship resistant money that can't be manipulated big a single party.

The challenge I have with some of the ICO that are proposing solutions to the problems that blockchain would have ordinarily solved, are themselves not fully acquainted with the whole blockchain technology itself, they only implement certain percentage of the total package and that is all, they release it and does not get the full response from its product.

Most ICO now only see blockchain technology from the aspect of cryptocurrency and then avenue to raise fund, there are so many projects that I have seen in this industry with very solid blockchain concept, but they don’t get to see the light of the day as a result of mismanagement and lack of passion from the side of the project developers. Blockchain is really much more than what some of these ICO’s are using it for or call it to be.

Some People are really so dumb… what does Blockchain has to do with HEALTH?? Even if Blockchain was going to be used in hospitals, it's still going to be for the purpose of carrying out transactions. But according to the op, he is asking if there is any other use for Blockchain technology apart from the finance section. So why do I see some people mentioning health then? As for those mentioning that it can be used for voting… what makes you think that the Blockchain technology will be a better option for casting votes?? If users are going to be anonymous, then anyone can cast as much votes as they want. Doesn't make any sense.

The blockchain system could be used very well in sports if you ask me. I know it sounds far fetched but we all know who Messi is or Lebron James is or Nadal is, yet we don't know the small time local people at all.

If you use blockchain to give these people voices too you can have a scouting system in all over the world for any sport you want, there will be difficulties like who will put the data in and how legit it will be but if you have agreements with the sports officials to put them in instead of teams itself then you can find someone from 7th league of English soccer league from all the way in Nigeria or vice versa to find people that are way above their leagues and plays much better than others comparatively. That is why in sports blockchain could make a huge change in scouting and bring all sports into football manager level of scouting as well.

Agreed! It is not just in a form of cryptocurrency but blockchain can help in finance area. You can use it in auditing and giving the tranparency among your clients. In fact, blockchain may helps also democratic country to vote candidates during election. It can count votes with a transparent result for the citizen. A lot of things we can make using blockchain. Picking just one important use, I'd say smart contract platforms such as ETH will be huge. It's not just an ICO platform, ETH can be used to automate many things in society. Any interaction that is rule-based and can be codified is a candidate for automation using ETH.

It seems to me that Blokchain will be used by highly developed countries in the field of public administration.  Some governments have already said that using the blockchain technology, it will be possible to create a smart digital country system where citizens can access all the necessary state resources using their smartphones and at the same time do not need to visit any offices in person.  Using the blockchain, you can vote or receive various data, as well as send requests for documents from different ministries or structures.  The field of activity is very large.

Blockchain can be used in many other forms and fields. In my country, some authorities are working to develop a blockchain based land revenue based system which will store all the land data in the blockchain which will make it secure and no one can modify the records from a blockchain based system.
Projects based on blockchain cannot be tempered and hence are secure.

Actually blockchain is not only used in financial areas, many people in this forum are discussing the future of the blockchain, such as adopting blocks in elections, industry, hospitals, etc. Maybe now many people know blockhain in financial terms only and that's natural because they know blockchain from bitcoin.

That only applies to distributed ledgers such as Bitcoin and Ethereum. Most projects we see nowadays don't aim to be decentralized, but offer scalability and extremely fast settling transactions.

People need to understand that you don't need an inconvenient and very expensive immutable ledger for every application. At one point they will also understand that they don't need a blockchain at all.

Databases are more efficient and allow for more scalability. Another thing is that it can be semi tamper proof by having a log-system in place. Not as secure as Bitcoin of course, but secure enough to do the job.

I often participate in Bounty companies of various projects that have developed certain ideas for different spheres of human activity.  This is not only trade or gambling, but also in education, cargo transportation and in many other industries.  I think the blockchain has already found its niche world to use it.

In my country, the government has also always stated that it will use the blockchain for the electoral system and in medicine, as well as in other areas of government, but nevertheless these conversations have remained only at the conversation level.

In China, they launched a very interesting blockchain program based on the giant Ali Baba, where they will detect counterfeit food.  First of all, they are now trying to control the supply of medicines from New Zealand, as well as some food products from other countries.  This is a very interesting project, and unusual, considering all areas where the blockchain was used before.

Whenever this question is being asked, you see people saying even the rubbish they know nothing about. I have even seen some people that will come out and say that Blockchain can be used in hospitals apart from finance, lolzzz… sick people. An international organization called Black Book conducted research among various organizations and companies that are somehow related to health care, then according to a survey it turned out that blockchain is already used quite often in health care.  We are not talking about treatment, but with the help of blockchain, completely different problems are solved that are very important for health care.

LOL, very funny man. Now you tell us what blockchain is really useful for since you have a better understanding of it. We have lots of people that are so confused about the whole blockchain technology of a thing, and that is why it is a forum created for us to have understanding of this new system that has been created, anyone you see digressing out of the purview of what blockchain is, you could just call the person’s attention to it and let the person understand.

This is one of the reason why we have so many shitcoins in the market, most of them apply blockchain for things that are not even necessary, once they just hear cryptocurrency, they assume that is the blockchain itself, and everyone wants to generate money through it and create a cryptocurrency, and you see many investors who lacks the understanding also investing.

I was watching Saving Private Ryan (great movie by the way) and I realized I know there are no more wars like that and everyone is actually just fighting with planes vs terrorists etc etc but if there were to happen another IRAQ war type deal where people actually are involved in the fight blockchain could be used for database of soldiers as well.

Like finding an internet connection is the hardest thing but if you give each soldier some sort of address or a code and assign them to a platoon or whatever and they go off fighting than you can just use it as database to keep track of everyone automatically, maybe even include gps and all information required like name/birth place/ birthday/ blood type etc etc so basically with just click of a button you get all information of a soldier but that would also be very dangerous considering enemy could use it too.

Blockchain has been studied in many different areas from agriculture, production management, human management, currency exchange management, medical record management, voting permission etc...
Blockchain brings democracy and transparency.  That's what we really want.

Blockchain technology has a vast area of usability. Apparently, it can be used in almost every field or sector where information and data storage is important. This is possible due to the digital ledger feature of the Blockchain technology which allows information and data to be safely stored and easily accessed.

I guess we already have everything for blockchain purposes, though of course the rearch and development keeps on looking for something new and unique in the market. Blockchain might be use for taxation as well, honestly its hard to think for any new updates if you are just focus on the price movements, well traders problem.

you can use blockchain technology in any field that you like as long as you have some form of data and want to store it somewhere blockchain can come in. but the real problem that people should be focusing on is whether it is a good idea to use blockchain in any of those fields?

so far i have seen the technology be mentioned (not so much used) in a lot of industries such as health care, energy industry, food delivery,... but i have never seen any of them discuss about why they are even talking about it in their business apart from trying to hype it up and make some quick money.

   Just recently I came across this news, and it`s interesting. It`s connected with this topic, for what Blockchain be used. As you can see Blockhcain can
be used for almost everything. Possibilities are endless, and that`s what most people don`t understand yet, when they start to, they will start to believe in

First off, Libra is or will be from Facebook. And Blockchain technology is not same with cryptocurrencies (That is if i can call Libra a cryptocurrency). As for whether their are any other use of blockchain apart from financial area. Yes their are. Healthcare, supply chain and Internet of things are just some of the few areas it can be used. And their are more to come.

When people speak of the blockchain technology, some feel it can solve every problem found across the industries in the whole world, but it cannot solve all problems, and where blockchain really functions more is this area you have just mentioned, which is that of information and data storage, and its ability to provide immutable record.

Another area where I personally enjoy the use of blockchain technology is the aspect of it removing middle man directly from a transaction, and when I talk of transaction, not only financial transaction, and even project by creating contracts directly through individuals and organizations which may totally eliminate any fraudulence practices that usually occur when applying for these contracts, and some of these features are why some corrupt governments are not happy with, that makes them go against it.

Let's start by defining blockchain: it's a computer algorithm that allows data exchange, analysis and automatic confirmation through decentralized servers. Of course, its very nature puts its application close to the financial world, but its full potential is by far a much diverse one, ranging from inventory and shipping management to software vulnerability data analysis. However, its adoption course will be closely linked to FinTech for a while. Through it, whether the current economic environment likes it or not, its validation will surely grow and other business range will massify its adoption.

There are already a few visionaries embracing this technology and bringing forth projects with the capacity to disrupt current market landscapes.
