Title: Can Ethereum survive below 0.02 BTC per coin?
Post by: Vishnu.Reang on August 04, 2019, 05:48:28 AM
As we all know, the exchange rate of Ethereum has fallen during the past few months (vs BTC). From around 0.035 BTC per coin six months back, the prices have fallen to 0.0205 BTC as of now. The market share of Ethereum in the cryptocurrency market has fallen from 11.5% to 8.3% during the same period. Other alts have also fallen, but not by this much.

And this has happened despite the boost it received from the IEOs. Can ETH manage a comeback anytime soon? Will the investors stop selling their ETH holdings for BTC, and hold on to the coin?

BTC dominance right now over 66.5%

So Now Altcoin market is on the downtrend. I won't be surprised if ETH price gets below $100 which is very likely to happen in the coming months. If that happens ETH will fall very likely below .01BTC. Investing now on ETH is very high risk.

IEO's aren't welcomed by the community. if you check only Binance IEO's were profitable for the time. IEO's were misused by the exchanges that's why general investors lost their interest. IEO's didn't generate the hype ICO's did back in 2017. I think this is a major price correction.

try past 2 years!
the price has been constantly going lower and lower starting from 0.16BTC and has so far dropped down to 0.0205BTC which is a 87.5% drop so far...

Quote
And this has happened despite the boost it received from the IEOs. Can ETH manage a comeback anytime soon? Will the investors stop selling their ETH holdings for BTC, and hold on to the coin?
the rise in first place happened due to 2 factors: hype of ether token and hype of ICO that people had to buy ether to invest in it.
those 2 factors stopped being relevant so ETH slowly lost its value. as ICOs died, the price died with it. IEOs are also moving towards other tokens, mainly the exchange tokens so there is no more incentive for people to buy ether anymore! which is why the price still continues going down.
investors never meant to hold ETH in first place. anybody who invested their bitcoin in ethereum did that to increase their BTC wealth so they are bound to cash out.

another major reason for ETH decline is the huge supply of it which doesn't have any cap either. these issues may not seem serious in short term while the pumps are happening but they always show themselves in the long run which is why such huge decline has been happening over the past 2 years without any major recoveries.

ETH is industrial blockchain. There are so many projects. I dont think that price is a main point for it

That will not happen easily dude, remember the majority of exchange sites are more interested to use their own crypto as alternative crypto to raise the funds from investors. In 2017 ether has become the main crypto that being used to funding the ICO but the time has already changed everything and it looks like ether must try to do something good or a big change to able compete with it.

Why would Ethereum price go up after bitcoin halving? I think instead to increase, the btc halving will just make ethereum price down because Bitcoin itself will have its time to pump.

I used to think like you, only in prices, but you have to consider "low prices" in a coin like ETH, is good for some people to use the blockchain of ETH and launch their stuff
There is a thread here in BTCT but I can't find right now

We already have known that Ethereum has experienced worse condition and worse price than only 0.02BTC. We see that some months ago, ETH only reached around $150, it is only around 0.1BTC with the rate right now. It was so terrifying. But finally, this coin can survive and has increased its value and price in several months currently. And now, it reached around $219.43 per coin. ETH is a valuable altcoin, so we must be sure that this coin will always survive in every market condition and nightmare.

There is no reason why Ethereum should keep above this value.
They have plans, but for now nothing new happened to Ethereum, no new technology, no new investment funds (ETFs).

but ethereum's survival does not depend on its price! so your question doesn't make any sense.
it is a centralized platform for smart contracts and as long as there are tokens on this platform, it will continue to exist even if its price were 1 satoshi.

as for what investors would do, most of them have already pulled out most of their investments and now only bag holders and ICO scammers left which are slowly pulling out to prevent a big crash.

I think that Ethereum will be below 0.02 BTS. Bitcoin dominance can go up to 70%, this will hit the top coins. But I also think that this situation is temporary.
Everything in the market is always temporary. Important the dynamics. And for altcoins, including ethereum, the dynamics are negative. This is temporary, but it is not good for many altcoins who will not live to see the next rush.
Ether will survive, but to continue to grow vs BTC, developers need to plug in something new, since the main source of pumping (ICO) has dried up.

Are you doubtful of the power of ETH? ETH has been on its nightmare, mate. This is very common to feel worried. But, Ethereum is one of the most popular, trusted, and worthy to hold.
So, I personally believe that ETH will survive in every price condition. Moreover now, the price is dropping, but it keeps changing everytime and sometimes it can reach again at a better price. I'm sure about it.

Sorry what boost, ETH had no contribution to IEO instead the native tokens of those exchanges IEO were carried in  saw increase in price e.g Binance coin. Ethereum price increase had nothing to do with any news instead it was just a healthy market movement just like the spike in bitcoin price was.  I don't see any signs of a comeback anything soon especially as the catalyst behind ethereum success last bull ran aren't that needed anymore as better alternative in regards to crowdfunding are popping up e.g initial exchange offering (IEO).

its normal for me, BTC dominance has become stronger since March and today BTC.D reaches 69%, you can check it in tradingview.
ETH and other altcoin can survive because of that, but let's see at the end of the year I think altcoin will start to recover.

maybe for the time being the price of ETH has gone too far, and I think that is due to an update on the ETH itself. and it is likely that everything will improve again at the end of 2019 after the release of v 2.0. and for investors who hold ETH coins it would be nice if they kept their ETH coins first, because there will be a time when ETH returns to their prices. so that's my suggestion for ETH coin holders to keep believing in ETH alone, this altc will not disappoint us.

I think that the growth of ETH will not happen soon. they did not show any development and they have big technological problems
Big technological problems? You mean bugs or problems with scalability? Ethreum is one of the most bug-less protocol.
I do not know about any cryptocurrency that doesn´t have same problem.

Agree, surely the price of ETH and altcoin will continue to decrease when BTC halving. From now until 2020, I think that only the BTC will increase and everything will continue to collapse.

Keep calm bro, i guess he means about the scalability problem that faced by ethereum but it's not the correct reason based on the what movement that already made in the market. Ethereum pegged with a lot of ICOs that used it in 2017 and this time exchange sites have been grabbing a lot of ethereum's demand and this will not push the FOMO to buy etheruem again and there will be no a technical problem with ether.

me self as a ETH miner also hope the same thing. but we cant ignoring the reality, Eth popularity decrease day by day, also pumped up by ICO sales no longer exists.
IEO ? just forget it, it will not help for more.
comeback soon ?

ETH, just like others altcoin. Even bitcoin still born to be dumped and pumped,
So it's normal when some coin go up or down. Don't be too worried about that. Cause it's the way this market work
And yes, I believe ETH could survive after all of this dump. It's one of the best altcoin right now to invest.

I am waiting for below 0.02 BTC and i will grab a lot of ETHEREUM
This ETH price will probably go a bit more slide as BTC dominance will go early this 4th quarter.
But i am pretty sure that before the year ends 0.04 will be the lowest for ETH.

Though what ever the price down i am sure and confident that this Eth will go rise again like what it did before.

The entire alt market is pretty much in the same boat. I don't recall Dash prices this low (against btc) for like 3+ years... most alts are currently like half the value of 'normal' prices.

Now can ETH recover? Sure, who knows where the markets will go. But if BTC dominance keeps increasing, we'll be looking at BTC and that's about it, nobody will be putting money into other cryptos, including ETH.

And ETH can survive just fine regardless. You are thinking like an investor, but it's used in so many projects it'll keep chugging along. And remember some people think in fiat, not in BTC ratios, so ETH most likely will increase in fiat value even if BTC dominance goes up, just that against BTC the price may look really crummy.

When is 2.0/staking planned for ETH? That could potentially be a turning point, but I haven't followed things close enough to keep track.

Almost all alts had a really bad time. when bitcoin goes down again i expect alts going down much more, also ethereum. keep in mind that the latest news about ethereum regarding using bsv chain were not so good. (my personal opinion)

If btc crashes I expect alts to follow suit, but if btc does a normal-sized correction then slow fall, I strangely think that may benefit alts -- and in the longrun, probably better for btc as well. Now alts may not improve a lot against fiat in such a scenario, but against btc then there is a chance, as btc dominance may go down a bit.

BTC around 8-9K, then I can see a minor alt season breaking out. But if BTC keeps climbing like it has, then I think there won't be much relief for alts.

And I think it was the BCH chain they were considering? Not that it matters really, but yeah, that news wasn't generally taken very well.

ETH can still gain ground to ~ 0.035 BTC or more later, as we all for now that only Bitcoin's price is moving up significantly compared to other Alts, but If altcoins manage to have a bull run too, ETH prices will be back within reach.
IEOs are influencing both Bitcoin and ETH prices as tokens can be bought with either of the two crypto unlike during the ICO era when it was mostly in ETH.

Most of the IEO funding is still occuring in ETH and although BTC payments can also be made, the volumes are not significant enough to have an impact on the exchange rates. And one of the reason for the recent crash in ETH prices may be the influx of so many crap projects among the IEOs. There are some exchanges out there, where more than two dozen IEOs are ongoing at the same time. These guys care only about the revenue and not about the quality of the project. And in the end, they are having a negative impact on the ETH exchange rates.

Another thing to remember here is that IEO volumes are nowhere near the ICO volumes that we had back in 2017. Investors are more cautious now, after the failure of so many ICOs during 2018. The popular sentiment regarding ICO/IEO remains negative and it will take a long time to get the situation normalized.

BTW, ETH exchange rates have breached the 0.02 BTC per coin level, and are now trading at 0.0198 BTC per coin according to coinmarketcap.

So far Ethereum, went down into 0.02BTC in fact, it is actually 0.0198BTC at the moment according to market. But it doesn't mean it can't survive though its happened because of Bitcoin price was kicking now where most of the altcoins got dumped their price value in most of the exchange platform.

The most important thing to know is that only 20% of the ICO has sold ownership of ETH. Yet the other 80% still holds ETH and is very likely to be sold too, ETH's sales will make ETH's price drop again, and the investors are very pleased if the price ETH down because it can buy it again at the lowest price.

That's a big opportunity for all investors if eth price fluctuates, then drop at cheaper price. Good thing if there's a situation like that, price eventually going to bounce back after sudden falls. Similar situation which we noticed with bitcoin many times, fluctuating price made it more profitable to everybody.

I would better measure ETH price in dollars, not in BTC. ETH may fall even lower in BTC if bitcoin continues to grow fast. So, nothing surprising here, ETH may cost 200$ USD and live long and prosper.

I have a feeling that's how most will be looking at alts in the near future, not just ETH. Against BTC and pretty much the entire alt market looks terrible. Of course traders probably aren't looking at it that way, and understandably so, as most trade against BTC, not fiat.

ETH needs time to return to peak prices, maybe early next year. Many people are waiting for ETH 2.0, to be honest I am a little doubtful that the compilation of prices continues to fall by almost $ 200. But this time it's pretty good, I hope that next week is much better than now.

As you can see now the rate is below 0.02 , I have long sold Ethereum since now it is difficult to say that the coin will be , it really does nothing for development , and there is no news , I can say so the price is always where to fall , but the coin will definitely live.

price ethereum and other alts will come back when the bitcoin season has ended, I think ETH cannot make a comeback in the near future because the focus of traders and investors is now on BTC. Maybe only a few people understand that the alts season is coming, but unfortunately most of them now choose to gain profit from BTC. So, we cannot force their will to buy alts, actually for me it's the same, we just have to wait for the alts season to come and it will come back.

To prevent sales is difficult because every individual has different thoughts about the coins being hold, so the price per coin cannot be forever stable because the crypto market is always moving up and down. But despite that I'm not worried about the price of each existing coin, because to increase even higher there will be at least a long process to reach a new ATH.

Yeah right, actually we have to be wise at this time. Bitcoin is now rising so take advantage of that increase and why think of Alts? if alts go down don't need to worry, instead buy as much as possible and wait for the alts season to come. Most of us are impatient whereas we can still profit from other coins being pumped now.

The market is gradually recovering, the volume of cryptocurrency capitalization is growing. By the end of 2019, the Ethereum exchange rate may reach $ 500. At Ethereum is worth investing in the for the long term. He will show its capabilities in the future. From the current value, you can make x2 and x3 per year.

The combined cryptocurrency market capitalization may be growing. But the altcoin market capitalization is going down. During the past four months, the Bitcoin dominance has gone from less than 50% to 67.9%. THe altcoins are getting battered. The only altcoins that are staying strong happens to be the Bitcoin forks (such as Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin SV), and the stablecoins (such as Tether, USDC and TUSD). The market share of the "proper" altcoins (i.e those not including Bitcoin forks and stablecoins) have gone down from 45% to less than 27%.

The market has recovered. I would agree with you on that. But what does that mean for the altcoins such as Ethereum? I am not even sure about its long term prospects. The only advantage is that it enjoys an overwhelming monopoly with the ICO/IEO sector. But what is the use, as most of these offerings are repeatedly failing to attain the soft cap?

If you compare the price in regards to bitcoin then there is no way any coin will catch up with bitcoin, the main difference in the past six months is that the price of bitcoin has increased its valuation three folds and the price of ETH also doubled from those situation, just take the dollar valuation and ETH will survive if they are able to come up with solutions for their flaws.

More developers to continue using this chain for their projects the more potentials that the value will rise high again
Many projects used ETH for their initial collection and majority of the successful projects migrated to their own chain and all the scam projects died off leaving behind the coins in the blockchain :P.

Etherem is currently below 0.02 btc now due to some good uptrend of BTC and I don't think it will die at that point, what's important here is its fiat value which is still above ICO price and price is over $200 currently.

Ethereum never received any boost from IEOs, most IEOs that we have seen in the market are developed on Binance chain or the chain of the exchange that is coming up with such IEO, in fact ever since the creation of IEO platform, Ethereum smart contract of ICO has really suffered a setback because majority of very great projects that would have registered on ICO through Ethereum smart contract prefers to go through IEO for better chance of success.

Ethereum is really suffering now because the main thing that usually cause boost in its value which is ICO has also suffered a major setback too, so except they come up with new concept before the Ethereum that we use to know can come back to its right position. Except maybe bull run, then we can see that value again.

I think this will be stable for a long time. when I pay attention, Ethereum prices have been stable for quite a while. so, I think the next change is the pump, or a price higher than 0.02 btc. for now, it's only a prediction and there is no information to support it, but I really believe that will happen.

How can you say that Ethereum prices will be stable at 0.02 BTC, when the same has been going down almost the every other day? When the current bull run started in April, the exchange rate was 0.036 BTC per coin. The market was in a depressed state, and both the BTC and altcoin trade volumes were down. But once the bull run started, ETH went on a continuous decline against BTC. Now the exchange rate is hovering around the 0.0195 BTC level.

The last time I checked, Bitcoin dominance had increased to 68.2%, a level which was last witnessed several years back. Almost all the altcoins are down against Bitcoin. But in my opinion, the no.1 culprit is Ethereum. Everything started after the ICO market went on a bearish phase. IMO, the decline started with Ethereum, and then spread to the other altcoins.

that can be passed by ethereum, the potential of ethereum is very large and now this might be used as one of the things that might be easy for ethereum. it's just that ethereum needs to wait for a good moment and it will be easy to get
It has a lot of potential but ethereum needs a new field for that because the ICO demand has been taken by the majority of the exchange site and ethereum is looking for alternative solution to bring back the big demand like what happened in 2017. ethereum will stay at this level.

The price of the coin will stop falling and Ethereum will inspire confidence only after the Ethereum 2.0 update. I think that Ethereum will cope with this easy task and will please the community again.

Not so sure we can blame Ethereum directly for the decline in the altcoin market. More likely it was the decline of ICOs, the failure of so many new coin projects, scam icos and now regulatory issues that sort of stalled ETH progress. But even so, you'd then think one of the ETH competitors (EOS, ADA, NEO, etc) would have simply taken up the slack.

It's also possible a group of big whales are just manipulating the entire alt market, and none of the above really matters. Who knows...

I do agree that there is no saying where the ETH bottom is. Right now the entire alt market seems in freefall -- it makes it close to impossible to trade at all. Any coin that makes a movement up, seems to collapse a couple of days later.

I think that Ethereum will be below 0.02 BTS. Bitcoin dominance can go up to 70%, this will hit the top coins. But I also think that this situation is temporary.

Bitcoin dominance will affect most altcoins. Ethereum has started to work Ethereum 2.0, and it will be the way out. ETH will stay popular and the market capitalization of the token will not fall. On the contrary, it seems that Ethereum will add a lot together with BTC. As for the main cryptocurrency, its dominance may really reach 69-70% this year.

Bitcoin dominance continues to grow, so it is possible that the price of most altcoins in BTC will continue to fall and I won’t be surprised if the price of ETH drops below 0.02 BTC. But this will not kill Ethereum and other altcoins, they will continue to exist, just their price in relation to Bitcoin will be lower than today, so I see no reason to worry about the future existence of Ethereum.

An upgrade is expected to happen after New Year, ETH 2.0 can bring so many positive things for all Ethereum supporters! Now when the price is fluctuating the best thing we can do is to buy the dip whenever we can. People are waiting to buy, but that`s a mistake, stack some ETH in this dip, when it starts to rise it will be late for making a good profit.
Staking Ethereum will be very interesting, many people hold ETH and we are waiting for this moment to come. Mining is too expensive, with staking Ethereum will make huge progress, many people looking forward to that.

Bitcoin has the power to grow and big investors know it. They are slowly moving their capital from altcoins to Bitcoin. But after Bitcoin hits ATH, they will move back into altcoins to get more Bitcoins  ;).

Ethereum go under 0.02BTC and still a strong one to depend.
This is the right time to get more ETH in the market and wait for the rise.
BTC goes up while ETH went down, this is normal and we know what to do on this situation.

Maybe you are right. It may not be right to blame Ethereum for the recent altcoin freefall. Like you said, I would rather place the blame on the ICOs, as well as on some of the second tier altcoins, where development has taken a back seat. One thing is pretty clear by now. There is no going back and altcoins will continue to lose ground for quite some time.

Now coming back to Ethereum, let's not forget the fact that Ethereum continues to remain as the no.2 cryptocurrency and the top-ranking altcoin ever since 2015 (both in terms of acceptability and market capitalization). So if the altcoin market is bleeding, I don't think that we can confidently say that the role of ETH in this can be ignored.

Now all altcoins are getting cheaper and this is quite normal, given the growth of Bitcoin domination. But this is not a reason to worry about Ethereum, because it is a full-fledged project with its own history, team and community. Ethereum is too good to just die, especially in the next year after the transition of Ethereum to PoS, a big increase in its price can be expected.

Yes, as I bought ETH when it was 0.01 BTC (when the price was actually $10) and that time I had no hope of it ever increasing. Now it's still 0.0189 BTC which is approx $250 and it has been the same since months. IEOs promote the exchange rather than have any impact on ETH prices. EEA as well has appointed Ethereum's ED and this may also be beneficial for helping the price movements but I am happy that it's stable with USD rather than BTC.

ETH has several issues to address before it reaches BTC level like scalability issues which Ethereum 2.0 launching in 2020 will solve. I feel we still have time till then to see how ETH develops.

I don't see Eth moving up sooner, with the way Bitcoin keeps pumping, is likely eth market keeps coming down because there are alot willing to sell off their Eth and buy more btc. So with this it is only when the btc pump is over then Eth can start coming up.

Today, ethereum prices broke below 0.019 btc and may continue to decline. Price declines occur in almost all altcoins and this is due to the dominance and strengthening of prices in the market. I think the good price of altcoin will still recover because the market is impossible to depend only on bitcoin

I can't foresee any reason why ETH can't survive at these price valuations, or even quite a bit lower. It's not like a low price makes ETH unusable.

The real question is if the bank accounts of those invested in ETH can survive. That is to be determined.

The way the market has been going, logically you'd think ETH (and most alts) will simply decrease in price (against BTC) as BTC rises, at least until BTC hits its previous ATH (or halving). Of course since this is crypto, who knows, perhaps the complete opposite will occur.

Hard to predict, the upgrade event you'd think would be priced in already but it's not a certain thing, and even if achieved it's not certain how people will take to it. So I think it is quite possible to have a pretty big price effect either way when it is upgraded rather than for example LTC which has little price effect at the recent halvening because everyone had already priced it in their expectations.

There is need for new developmental plan, that will help increase the satoshi value of ethereum. Though it has plunged, I am optimistic that before this year ends, it will puck up again. There is no need to lose confidence in it yet. However, bitcoin might also continue to grow.

Doesn't seem to be priced in to me, as besides the low price of the coin, the upgrade isn't as well known as larger events (like the ltc halvening) and an exact date hasn't been determined yet. It could be mid or late 2020 for all we know, and in crypto-time, that's probably too far ahead to price it in.

If the upgrade does arrive early 2020, I think pricing in may start to occur Oct/Nov this year  -- if BTC remains stable. Problem is pricing in anything in a falling market where folks are scared BTC will go insane at a moment's notice. But who really knows, it's all guesswork at this point.

We can not just do the trade once it goes down, but we need to set a strategy and making a backup plan once the market shows an unpredictable action. Did you remember how low it's 3 years ago? compared to before, it's still too high.
as long as it does not go to 0, everything is fine.

If you closely look at price chart of Ethereum in the ETH/BTC pair, looking backwards to 2017, and early of 2018, you will see that Ethereum now has nearly repeated its history pattern. Fractal movements of Ethereum have come closely to end period, so the coin will rocket soon. I think if altcoin season comes, Ethereum might move closely to around 0.06 BTC for one Ethereum coin.

If it was just ETH crashing, then yeah, it could be done. If it's the entire market, either the market is done, or when it recovers, so should ETH.

True believers of Ethereum won't be so bothered about the price at this time, since there is hope for the future. Drop in price is only normal since crypto is highly volatile, this can happen to any other coin. Moreover, the drop in ETH price is not extremely bad, soon I believe there will be an uptrend. With the upcoming events for ETH, I'm optimistic that holders will smile in the long run.

Yes, I strongly believe ETH price will be up again with time. The major reason why it's this way is because Bitcoin dominance keeps increasing, that's why ETH market cap and price dropped considerably. We should be more concerned about the development aspect of ETH because definitely the price will bounce back in my own opinion. Being below 0.02 BTC doesn't mean it's never going to rise again, we've seen similar situations in the past, it's a repeated cycle.

I completely agree with your opinion, because I am confident in the ethereum and in the development team that are really working on improving their project.  What is happening on the cryptocurrency market today, it is quite possible that this is the beginning of something more, and for this to happen, correction should be made not only for the prices of the entire cryptocurrency, but also for ethereum in particular.  Perhaps it is precisely today that Ethereum occupies a special position in the cryptocurrency market, so that independently, without the influence of Bitcoin, it will continue to develop and it is possible to influence all erc20 coins.

It can survive under 0.0002 BTC per coin.  Why not? I dont see any reason why not. There will be less miners since they will switch to other coins.   Cryptocurrencies are super resilient. They can survive a lot. Yes there will be less development, but that is it. If Etehreum is useful for something then development will pick up again 5 years from now. It is simple.

The drop in Ethereum prices may be due to the ICOs dumping their ETH holdings. But no such justification exists there for the drop in other altcoin prices. Litecoin prices have crashed heavily during the past couple of weeks, despite the recent block reward halving. Bitcoin forked coins are not safe either. BCH lost as much as 45% of its USD value in two months.

I see a decrease in the price of ETH influenced by the supply of ETH itself, and besides that ETH is also unable to adapt to develop coins, they are stagnant in their own business, their platform is not experiencing significant development, if this continues to happen it will be very difficult for them to rise, I believe one of the ways that ETH arises by developing a special concept.

After it crashed below the support level of BTC0.02 per coin, the next important support for Ethereum was at BTC0.018. For a while it looked like the prices were stabilizing around that level. But now it has resumed the downward journey and the last time I checked this level was also breached. Now the exchange rate is going at BTC0.01788 per coin.

I would prefer stick to the long term fundamental about ethereum 2.0’s phase zero that take place on january next year... for that reason no matter the market gets dump today, breaking everyone's support levels, it won't go low as insane as 20%, 50% or so.

By the date close to the ethereum 2.0 launching , it's even a sure bullish. We have seen something like this occured often. Too good to be missed on what will happened to ethereum next after the ethereum 2.0 officially launched , now just HODL!

indeed we do not know that ethereum, which usually can move on its own and is not too dependent on bitcoin. now experiencing things that are not good, always can not survive with a long increase, always moving to the same decline as bitcoin. but believe ethereum is very good and experienced, ethereum will improve and can improve itself in the future.

Everything is possible in crypto. I guest ethereum can comeback around 0.03 btc until 0.04 but i don't know when exactly maybe in 2021. My assupmtion because of many developer use ethereum base for their token which mean many demand for ethereum. But this is not main factor, for me as long as ethereum can maintain their  community, deliver more features so it can come back again

It is very sure that ethereum will increase and move for improvement in a better direction. indeed ethereum these past few months cannot break away from the development of bitcoin. but we also know that etehereum can move without dependence on bitcoin ever soared. I still believe that ethereum will improve again.

The current situation of the ethereum is passing through is what we called demand and supply challenges, base on the current situation the number of supply is very high than demand, because many investors are selling and the price is keep falling at the range of 8.3%, which 0.0205 BTC. Hence the current prize of ETH is very good to invest in future time.

https://cointelegraph.com/news/vitalik-buterin-talks-scalability-ethereum-blockchain-is-almost-full

Read the article carefully. His approach is terribly wrong. In order to improve the scalability, he is willing to sacrifice security. This is what given in the article about the subject:

Quote
The improved scalability this would provide would bring costs down by a factor of over 100, he claimed. And while security is to some extent sacrificed by such a move, the compromise would be fairly modest, in his words.

The ERC-20 platform has a lot of issues with security. Some of the exchanges initially refused to allow ERC-20 tokens to their platform for the same reason. Cryptopia even blamed the security lapses in ERC-20 as one of the primary reasons why the hackers were able to steal coins and funds from the exchange earlier this year. All I can say is that sacrificing security for scalability is going to be a big blunder and Buterin will live to regret it.

Coins such as Ethereum and Ripple are not going to die out all of a sudden, as they have tens of billions of USD in market cap and millions of users. But if you check the historical exchange rates, acceptability and daily trade volumes, then you will reach the conclusion that these currencies are inching towards a slow death. They are losing market share to Bitcoin and the stablecoins.

Bitcoin dominance is still increasing today to 68%

Imbalance of dominance might make altcoin challenging to pump. The last few months, ETH only reached under $400 and back down to $200, a lot of opinions this year is not the season for altcoin but I am not sure of that, surely the moment of an altcoin to grow towards the end of this year.

We have already seen what happens to the smaller altcoins. Some of them have only a few thousands or even a few hundreds of users and if a dump occurs, it may never recover and die out within a few months.

An example is here:

https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/ethereum-gold/

Ethereum Gold was a shitcoin that had a peak market capitalization of more than $5 million. But once the promoters exited after creating a pump and dump cycle, the coin lost its value within two years. Now the coin is virtually dead and no longer actively traded in any of the exchanges.

Such a scenario will never happen to ETH, due to its huge user base. It may lose some value, but may not die out in a couple of years.

Sure it could drop below 0.02BTC so what ?

So let's just wait for the bounce back of it's price.

Maybe there will be a decrease in eth prices for the next few days, but this is one way for investors to get more eth, because I think eth prices will go up after bitcoin halving
Am not seeing only ethereum to gain price surge, but all Altcoins will definitely have a good price after the Bitcoin halving next year 2020. The possibility of ethereum to skyrocket with such price is actually feasible and can be realize if the team settle their inner differences.

Could you please tell me why do you think that the Bitcoin block reward halving in 2020 would boost the exchange rate of altcoins, including Ethereum? After next year's block reward halving,I am expecting a major upswing in the exchange rates of Bitcoin. But I can't understand how altcoins such as Ethereum will use this opportunity to push upward.

Altcoin price movements are very dependent on bitcoin. However strong eth if bitcoin falls then eth will also drop. It's just that compared to other altcoins the decrease in eth isn't very significant and still in reasonable stages. Currently the market is still not stable. The price of coins is still up a little but the decline is very much. So you have to be very careful not to get stuck.

what stability ? volatile coins like btc and eth wont ever become stable anymore because they are already built this way . only those who are built with stable nature like usdt  can become stable forever .

yes it does but it would take a long time to happen because eth is one of those strong coins that keeps on holding no matter how toxic the current market are .  but dont worry because even if its falling hard , i believe that eth can have the ability to recover in no time  .

IEOs didn't do much for Eth this period, ICOs pushed its price quite high and now they're no more. Eth will have to find a new price bearing from whence it's price will be determined.

IEO did not bring that much attraction to ETH because it does not have any relation with it at all, the meaning of IEO is Initial Exchange Offering. The exchange can list every single coin on their platform whether it is ERC20 token or a stand-alone blockchain.
ETH price will be determined after we are seeing a new development that solves the scalability.

If you would like to see which coins fell most here is the website for you: https://athcoinindex.com/
There are only few altcoins that are not in 90% loss compared to the highest price.

I stopped investing in Ethereum immediately with the sunset of ICO. I realized that the main driving force behind ETH was new projects that were created with the help of Ethereum smart contracts. The fewer successful new projects appear on the crypto market, the less popularity of ETH. And judging by how the popularity of Ethereum falls, we can say that the number of successful projects in its network is falling.
The price of ETH falls in relation to BTC because Bitcoin is growing in price, but Ethereum is not, these are the laws of the market.

That's an interesting site. I was well aware of the drops for the marketplace, but it's kind of striking when you see every coin like that with such huge losses.

My takeaway isn't to single out ETH like it's price is terrible, but simply the entire marketplace is down. The lack of successful ICOs definitely hurts ETH, but if the market recovers and if 2.0 spurs on a run, the price can recover somewhat.

And those are pretty big ifs, but still, it's not like ETH is the biggest loser, easily seen by some coins at 99%+ losses.

Now the prices have fallen much further, despite the prevalence of the IEOs. Even the support level of 0.018 was breached quite easily. And it didn't took much time to reach the current level of 0.0169. Outlook is tragic for Ethereum holders. I would expect the majority of the holders to convert most of their tokens to either BTC or Tether.

The challenges of the falling price face by ethereum maximalist is not how the team sees it, and most of the updates on the project does not show the concern either

The longer Ethereum drags in time until the introduction of the new POS consensus mechanism, the longer it will sink in price with respect to Bitcoin. Many investors are gradually losing patience and selling their Ethereum. I mentioned two main factors that affect the decline in the price of Ethereum.

since BTC dominates 70%, ETH prices continue to decline. as one of the people holding back ETH, I was quite frustrated to see this. I am one of those who believe that the price of ETH can again reach prices above 0.035 btc this year. but, in fact, the current price of ETH has decreased to 0.016btc / ETH. yeah, seeing this makes my spirits go down a little. but, I might hold it back, for now, I believe that the price will rise again above 0.02 btc / eth for this year.

Have you forgotten that there was a time that Ethereum reached a low price of $80, and I know that while it was still technically above 0.02 BTC because bitcoin was also falling in price, I just want to point out that at that period, people were speculating that the Cryptocurrency market is dying and that they would keep reducing in price until they Cruze to exist entirely, now look at where we are, I think that even if Ethereum goes below 0.02BTC, it would survive and bounce back, because that's what it does.

There is always a chance for a comeback especially if the market will start to recover, Ethereum is consistent now in the 2nd position base on coinmarketcap therefore the chance for a comeback is very high. The prices now is very low and many will surely use this chance to stock some eth and hold it for a long term.

Though we didn't really know the thinking of big whales but what I am sure of, Ethereum will grow once the market will start to grow again base on how the market is cycling for how many years.

While the last couple of weeks were not the happiest the cryptocurrencies have seen, many are experiencing a rise in their prices this week. Ethereum in particular is seeing a growth in its numbers, breaking through that USD 180, and it’s now  trading at c. USD 183, or 1% more than 24 hours ago. Majority of other top 10 coins are also showing similar gains today.

now the price of ETH / BTC has increased to 0.021 BTC, I think the bear market has run out and ended, maybe they will not last too long below 0.02 BTC, this will encourage the price of ETH to strengthen against BTC, some BTC holders still believe in ETH so they buy it and make the price of ETH to be increased, it looks like ETH is still given the trust to be the best Altcoin in the next few years and remains in 2nd place Coinmarketcap
It is becoming clearer that the altcoin season is approaching as bitcoin has been trying to go sideways for a long time now, and during this period, I have seen some project like vechain and some other project makes some uptrend move same as Ethereum is trying to also do the same thing, so it will not be very much surprising if any moment form now, we see the value of Ethereum increase along with some other altcoins too.

Also, bitcoin might also make some surge in the coming month of December which this will definitely make the value of Ethereum to increase by almost 1 quarter of the recent price in the market. Ethereum still has very great prospect when it comes to high surge in its value which we need to continue preparing for.

Ethereum is still an important altcoin and a top ICO platform so it will go up also when bitcoin starts the next rally that can start soon.

I believe it will be more hard to hold Ethereum price between 500-800 USD when Ethereum 2.0 will release. In December Bitcoin surge doesn't need for Ethereum. As news Ethereum 2.0 will arrive in Q1 2020, so sit tight to see Ethereum bullrun and forget about 0.02 BTC.

Eth is at 0.02157BTC at the moment and it's surviving just fine.  If it were to drop below 0.2BTC, I have no doubt that it would also survive, even if it were to lose its #2 place on coinmarketcap and I don't place a lot of stock on those rankings anyway.  As far as popularity and mainstream media coverage go, Eth is one of the biggies out there and I don't think that's going to change.  If smart contracts and tokens ever get used for something other than garbage projects and scams, they're probably all going to be on Eth's blockchain.  It's always had the biggest community and the first mover advantage.

So I wouldn't worry too much about ethereum's survival.  It would be quite rare to have the #2 coin just drop out of existence.

The price of the second coin by total market capitalization, ether (ETH), stepped over the USD 180 level. Meanwhile, the developers are discussing the transition from Ethereum 1.0 to Ethereum 2.0, facing both supporters and critics alike.
But OP is talkng about the ethereum price in bitcoin term which has already achieved consider ethereum was sitting above 0.02 rate. That doesn't need to predict how much the price movement of ethereum in the dollar term consider about what has already targetted by OP already achieved. You can see how it was still increasing.

if ethereum can increase demand from all over the world by legalizing ethereum usage and payments then it is certain that ethereum prices can be very expensive and can even reach more than what is said by the OP, because I believe ethereum can do like that, still hold ethereum as much as you can and do not sell until the price rises to become expensive.

Ethereum represents a good value buy below that range if you're viewing this from a long term perspective and its development team and infrastructure are growing daily and there still is nothing close to rivaling it so when something becomes oversold is always a great time to accumulate it

Will the investors stop selling their ETH holdings for BTC, and hold on to the coin?
not only etherum, bitcoin is still experiencing a decline this week. so in essence it is not only etherum that has decreased. The market is currently in a down period, because when there is an increase, it will definitely go down again soon. if the market is in an upward period, then the significant increase will continue and reach its peak. this is not something to worry about and etherum can certainly survive.

Given that (ETH) is the largest altcoin based on current market capitalization, it makes sense to see these assets as an indicator of how altcoin performance with other large marketcaps.

Last week Heath Tabert, chairman of the U.S. Commodity Trading Commission (CFTC) said that he believes ether is a commodity and Tabert calls that Ethereum futures trading will soon become a reality. BKCM CEO Brian Kelly also believes that the classification for Ethereum is very bullish.

When bitcoin have lower price ethereuem never can raise up to higher price because eth price depend with how bitcoin position, without any update from Vitalik owner of ethereum maybe difficult how to see ethereum have higher price at the future, waiting for ethereum back above $1k I think less chance with situation of crypto right now, just reality ethereum will back soon above $500.

Depending on the condition, if the market conditions are more profitable to hold BTC then the holders will remove it.
There may be some that still hold it, but for short-term holders it does not consider it.
I think if the ALT market gets better people will buy back ETH.

I also don't understand why eth values continue to decline. I think maybe this is due to the many ICO projects that are scam and some ICO projects use the ethereum platform. if this time the ICO project is no longer trusted, the demand for ethereum will decrease and make its value go down. and also added at this time the value of bitcoin is also down, then the value of ethereum will also go down. if at the end of this year bitcoin dumps again maybe eth values will fall to 0.01 btc.

Don't worry about this, mate. In my view, Ethereum will always be the main key of altcoins. Until now they continue to make developments that have a very significant impact on other projects, because the platforms they have created are very useful. At present more than 60% of projects use their platform, this indicates that the development they make will be very meaningful and potentially has a bright future.

Most of the current IEO does not work as expected by the project holders. and only large exchanges IEO have the trust of investors and users. and if things have improved, and people have started to love IEO, I hope that eth prices will also increase.

IMHO! Ethereum is already an established coin, and it has a in-demand use case and products (smart contracts) so why doubting in Ethereum's capability the price is just temporary as we all know, Trading dictates the daily price of a particular coin or token it may rise and fall, pump or dump so what's the difference after all, that's why stop doubting in Ethereum's future im sure it will survive as long as the cryptocurrency still exist.

2020 will be the year of BTC and ETH.
BTC will be pumped due to upcoming halving.
ETH will be pumped due to upcoming update ETH 2.0 + investors will be lured to staking.
And maybe, the world crisis will come and investors will look for alternatives.

So be positive in these hard days and cumulate more Bitcoins and Ethers  :).

Very difficult, a reason Ethereum ROI peaked significantly in 2017 because it was originally created as a smart contract, focusing on an industry that we usually call today (ICO) and in a time when supply needs continue to increase dramatically, quite the opposite today where inflation move just a little. It's not as easy as that liquidity in Ethereum, maybe if trends like ICO come and approach now make ETH as the beginning of the peak again, but unfortunately there are more competitors nowadays. I hope Ethereum 2.0 can fix this.

All other coins which have solid business or a strong community will definitely rise in value because when bitcoin market gets good health then all the investors start to invest even in other good coins because they think now the crypto market is better. They all correlate the bitcoin market with the whole crypto market.

In my opinion, ethereum can survive at any price, no matter how low it falls. However, I do not see yet the reasons why this coin can significantly fall in its price. On the contrary, we will soon see the results of introducing improvements to ethereum called Istanbul and Ethereum 2.0. I think that in the near future the price of ethereum, on the contrary, will increase.

Everyone who has been in the cryptocurrency industry for a long time knows that ETH cost so much for one simple reason and this reason is a bubble in the ICO market. Thanks to all this, the price of ETH has grown infinitely long and greatly. Now, to restore the previous maximum to BTC, big news is needed. And the fact that everyone thinks that after the "hardfork", which will be next year, the price will fly up, I don’t think so, it will just give the price a little increase, but in no case will not give such rapid growth as everyone expects.

I wouldn't really worry about the price of ETH unless it falls significantly in relation to the price of other alts. Such as ETH drops to number 5-10, while tons of other alts zoom ahead. And based on this market, that seems extremely unlikely to happen even in a pump/dump scenario.

I think it will will be very difficult for Ethereum to get high now, when there are too many other good projects presented at the market. Watch Minter for example. As for me it has much more chances to make x10 from the current price.

Whole digital coin market is going through a dump. Ethereum is facing same situation. However, you are true about how scam projects are hurting reputation of ethereum. People trust this coin and after experiencing a loss from a project which claims to be ethereum based, it is natural to lose trust in it. We just need to be a bit more patient at the moment. Everything will be fine after the halving takes place. bitcoin will rise and so will all the potential altcoins. Better is to increase the amount of holdings.

Since Ethereum is independent with different projects then it will be very hard for it nowadays for it to maintain its price too, Ethereum is indeed stable and worth investing too. But, when the price of Bitcoin is dropping it has negative effect too. Hope that the founder of Ethereum would have something that will make Eth more usable so that it can adopt more users.

This has not only happened to Ethereum, but lots of coins in the market have also been going down lately. Even bitcoin price rate has dropped from the rate of $9000 plus to $7000, I was even thinking it will start to bubble from that rate, but it is the opposite. Other coins that I have been holding have decreased as well, the price of Stellar and Bitcoin cash, and a few others that I've been holding.

Se crazy predictions I have seen claimed that the price of Ethereum this year would be huge, but it seems they were all wrong. Mr. Schuster predicted that Ethereum is going to reach $100,000 per ETH and the whole market cap would reach $10 trillion, that's some crazy shiii right there. But I haven't given up hope yet, I'm still holding my ETH and maybe there will be a change in 2020. Albeit I've been seeing some economists saying that the doom of BTC and ETH is near, lol. They are fond of saying stuff like that when the price is going down to discourage people.

I never got the point to compare any alt agains fiat. Who cares that it is 150 usd? Only those who would like to exchange it to FIAT. If you beleive in ETH (or any crypto) compare it to BTC.

From that point ETH corrected a lot, this is still promising.

The reason why ETH price hasn't really soared recently is because there are  competitors like you mentioned. Crypto enthusiasts now diversify and focus on other projects offering similar smart contract and DAPPs features. I remember when most ICOs will launch and ERC20 token since one can easily build tokens on Ethereum blockchain.  But today project like NEO, WAVES,  ICON, TRON, STELLAR LUMEN, just to mention a few can serve the same purpose. I think ETH 2.0 launch will draw more attention to Ethereum with time.

Ether can survive at any price since we will always need it for tokens and gas fees. As long as tokens are around so will it be.

Yes, eth seems to go up with bitcoin. In fact all tokens and coins seem to follow this tread so maybe we must buy now that bitcoin is down and when it goes up we sell the altcoins that we bought now.

Ethereum has fallen a few times in this bad market season. Whereas their project is often used by the developers of tokens to create an innovation and should make the benefits of Ethereum itself. Probably because the market now can not be in disturb and investors prefer to save their funds. Therefore the demand and the Supplynya different and make the price come down.

Actually no, ethereum in the past even in its initial coin offering values a lot less than it is nowadays. Even if Ethereum could go under 0.02 BTC per coin it will not significantly affect the whole user and community. It's just a really usual things that happen to almost all of the altcoins to face massive dump and the top 10 altcoins still survive anyways.
It's like this. When the price of Ethereum signifcantly reduced people will try to buy because it feels like the Ethereum is kinda cheap and therefore adds more demand to the market. It's just a matter of time until it gets back up again.

This pair ( BTC/ETH) wasn't good in the time 2013. But Ethereum covered the price to 0.114 in 2018. There is no doubt for Bitcoin limit supply, this could be more down. But when bullrun start again, Ethereum will cover lose. After Ethereum 2.0, this pair will rise from 0.0205 BTC per ETH.
