I think bitcoin has been one of the biggest innovations of the human in the past years. Many altcoins have been created after bitcoin. But none of  them have been successful as bitcoin is. Why is that?
Why no altcoin can replace bticoin?
Every new thing and every technology is usually replaced by a newer one as the world is always developing.

The first television built was mechanical, then electronic television were invented, then colour televisions, digital, 3D, ....
The first automobiles invented were steam-powered wheeled vehicles, then electric automobiles appeared. Now we have autonomous cars. Now we have Tesla model S. Now we have Lamborghini.
All of us know about the developments made in mobile phones.

Every thing is being developed. Every device is finally replaced by a newer one. Why no altcoin has replaced bitcoin till now? Do you think it will happen in future?
I personally think people will trust what Satoshi has created more than altcoins till many years later.
Altcoins are created to make the developers rich. But bitcoin is different. Bitcoin was created in favor of us. So, no altcoin can be trusted as bitcoin.

The basic and most important thing we.have to note here is: when these equipment's where built these companies research into how to improve on the technology which is a different case here. Bitcoin was built on a testing ground and Altcoins are built to match with the government policies, then don't expect these Altcoins to take or measure up with Bitcoin. Most if these Altcoins are built for surveillance which we all know them while others where built basically to scam gullible investors. Bitcoin is the true digital currency.

No one knows on what bitcoin isn't still being replaced yet in spite on being outclassed by most updated or good featured altcoins in the market currently.

But we can already presume that Bitcoin is king of crypto that's why its being mainly supported by the masses in spite of its scability issues.

I never like to speak for sure, but it's not easy for any altcoin to pass Bitcoin. Bitcoin is not just a crypto currency. It's also a mission. Therefore, it should promise a greater future for an altcoin to cross the BTC.

I doubt that something can replace btc. BTC was made as an innovation, every new altcoin - as a way to earn money.

Altcoins can't replace bitcoin at the moment because they're not popular, even though altcoins could offer more better things than bitcoin the cons outweighs most of them. With Bitcoin you get the good things all around and only suffer small cons. Most altcoins are used for trading, they have little to no uses since not many knows every single altcoin. If there's some good altcoins out there it'll be difficult for them to sustain their value because they're competing against other cryptocurrencies.

With the market still being considered as a young market this isn't really about the battle to who is the better coin out there its a battle of who is the most popular cryptocurrency available in the market and right now Bitcoin is the one who sits at the top. For all the people I know they will always be familiar with the word "Bitcoin" first but they really don't know anything about "altcoins" this just suggest that even for normal people Bitcoin still reaches out to them. You won't hear them anything about Ethereum, Litecoin, or Monero but only Bitcoin. The demand for the market isn't really focus on a lot of cryptocurrencies since a lot of the traders are just getting ready to enter now that is why they will always settle for what is the most popular.

Because many pioneering altcoins thought if killing Bitcoin (which of course they couldn't) and forgot about the fact that their lives were dependent on bitcoin survival. Bitcoin is the king nd has since the beginning been. Interestingly, new projects have rather shifted attention towards building better blockchain platforms and not to focus on killing the king.

Bitcoin is not set in stone, it changed a lot since it was created - bugs were fixed, SegWit and other softforks were activated, LN is being worked on. So, instead of showing how technologies evolve and looking at Bitcoin as an early iteration of some technology, you should view Bitcoin itself as the technology, and its versions as iterations.

Altcoins are generally not some brave attempts to revolutionize the field of cryptocurrency, most of them are just scams that lie to people that they are better than Bitcoin. In this light it's absolutely not surprising that Bitcoin is the king. The best developers in the world are working on Bitcoin, how can altcoins realy compete with that, especially if they just hire someone who might not be a passionate cypherpunk, and is simply interested to earn money for their work.

I think that only good from all this altcoins is that they can serve as some kind of testing ground,
so we can see what are bad and good sides in changing things in Bitcoin code.
We now see that there is no need for so many coins, and none of them is better than Bitcoin.

If they try to improve one thing...big whole opens on other side, and then we have big issues.
(example is Craig Wrong creation monster BSV with gigantic block size, where we saw split in 3 parts)

We also see Ethereum blockchain is almost full now, and they still cant find solution for PoS transition

We saw numerous bugs and flaws in PoS coins

We saw many scams and failed projects in all masternodes coins circus

And many many more reasons why Bitcoin BTC is number 1

Unfortunately, the concept on which bitcoin was built is different from the many technological innovations like television sets and other mechanical equipments. Bitcoin as a digital currency would only get better with time just as how popular innovations like PayPal and debit cards began.

Bitcoin is very unique and we can't see any coin that could bring greatness more than enough that Bitcoin can do. That is why new coins are called altcoins cause that is only their place to be.  If we look at its price, we will see a huge gap between them and making them totally separated.
This is just like in a certain community, there is a leader and that is Bitcoin a leader among cryptocurrencies.

Here are a couple of reasons why.

1. No altcoin that wanted to replace bitcoin, has been around for as long as BTC has.
2. No altcoin has received so much media attention, mainstream adoption, and has almost become mainstream.
3. No altcoin has BTC's market dominance or as much institutional and retail investments BTC has.
4. There is nothing wrong with BTC currently, so there is no need to change.
5. Altcoins have very little use compared to BTC.

And the most important one: BTC started the wave of decentralization that we know, and no other coin has been able to replicate the BTC blockchain and rally support from BTC users.

Although there are a lot of altcoin arising even with more updated features than bitcoin, bitcoin still remain the strongest because bitcoin already has the trust of people who strongly believe what bitcoin can do and I think that's the reason why bitcoin survived a decade.

There are a bunch of reasons why no other cryptocurrency has yet replaced bitcoin, and probably one of the main ones is the price, most of the people who have invested in bitcoin have done it for the price , as bitcoin has proven times and times to be a great investment and a way to make some huge profit due to its fast rising value, and there has not been any coin that was able to come close to it rates, another reason is none of the any new coins had any ground breaking, or major new changes that will make it better than bitcoin in any way.

Of course, if in technology such as applications, startups, even large smartphone companies if they don't develop and innovate then they will be replaced by something new. why not for bitcoin? because bitcoin is always updating what is lacking, developing according to the times so as not to become obsolete. that's what makes bitcoin difficult to beat by new altcoin

Until now, Bitcoin is the king and altcoins would be the subordinates.

There are so many questions and threads here regarding altcoins who's gonna be the next Bitcoin and which altcoins will beat the king. But bitcoin remains at the top, no one until  now takes it's place. Others may say, there are other altcoins that have better platform than bitcoin. But bitcoin is the first blockchain technology that makes it more special and unique.  

To make it  simple, Bitcoin is the original archetype for crypto actions and altcoins are just created to make some lacking issues of bitcoin but the original would not be replaced by some alternatives. It contains the LARGEST user base compare with others and the impact of bitcoin in the society is far higher than some altcoins.

There are three reasons that I can come up with

1. Highest Fiat Value
2. The highest number of Pairs.
3. High Demand and Less supply.

Although I believe this won't last longer than another 10 years if some significant changes are not made in Bitcoin. I understand that lightning network can bring those changes, but we have to wait and watch as there are big and better projects that are already active and are also in high demand.

In my opinion, everything lies in the reliability of Bitcoin. Unlike altcoins, Bitcoin is a time-tested asset that has not been compromised. This allowed the coin to become top 1 and be the main one in trading. Perhaps altcoins will occupy other niches because of their better functionality, however, Bitcoin will always be the main coin of the market.

It's already 10 years, and we haven't seen anything close to even challenge bitcoin's dominance in crypto universe. It is the gold standard of crypto so I doubt that any altcoin in existence can do much damage to it. How can someone replace it when all trading pairs is BTC/XXX?

It is still the most recognised crypto as of today and I have no doubt that it will stay as the most influential coin in the next 10 years and no altcoin can come close to it.

It's a good question, and I've been asking myself that as well. Honestly, I don't know the answer, and some of the important points were already mentioned by others (such as a small period of time it all exists and way more media coverage for Bitcoin than for anything else). But I'd like to mention two other possible reasons. One of them is that altcoins are not that much of improvement in comparison with Bitcoin to be worthy of taking over the king's place. Another one is while alts can be interesting ideas to offer, the Bitcoin dev team is the strongest, offering the best protection they can, and people thus trust it more than altcoins (which can be great in theory but buggy in practice).

It's simple. You can't replace the king of all cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin itself. If you take a look at the difference of its market cap to Ethereum and Ripple, it cannot be overtaken.

If you notice since after April Fools Day, Bitcoin started to spike as much as almost $14k before it stabilizes around $9.9k to $10.1k. As for Ethereum and others, it only had little impact. It is because altcoin has not started yet, as we are still experiencing the dominance of Bitcoin. Financial institutions gearing up for Bitcoin and the announcement of Facebook's Libra Coin made that huge difference, as it adopts massively compare to any other coins or tokens in the planet.

I am not expecting for altcoins to have their own season anytime soon, but I believe they'll have their turn later on.

Altcoins have served some niche roles that Bitcoin can't fill.  Bitcoin isn't anonymous like privacy coins so most dark web users have moved over t privacy coins.  Also bitcoin fees can be quite high so people like to use altcoins to move funds from one exchange to another.

As you have mentioned some advantages of altcoins over bitcoin, does it mean that you think an altcoin will finally replace bitcoin?
Bitcoin transaction fees have been decreased very much. Exchanges get much more fees than they pay for transactions confirmations.
I also don't think that we need more anonymity that bitcoin is providing for us, unless we want to pay for something illegal.

It makes some change and Bitcoin does it pretty early. Considering the increase of fees to transact Bitcoin, it is something disgusting and can lead a way to convert into altcoins to save some. But not a reason we think that any altcoin could replace Bitcoin in the future, even the fees is too high but still a lot of investors and market adopters are true to this coin in the way that it is more profitable than of altcoins.

I think it's just normal because bitcoin is the first one, and in this cryptocurrency world, bitcoin is the most well known coin than other coins. Many people don't even know what altcoin is, but they mostly know about bitcoin. This shows bitcoin is more popular, and has more users and people interested in. Bitcoin value becomes higher and higher since the popularity is rising and the demand also increasing. But other altcoin is not like that. Maybe they're popular and hyped at first, but it usually don't last long. Bitcoin is still the number one. So i think people don't really have any interest in altcoin as long as there's bitcoin that's better and more valuable for them.

Most people like to use Monero because of it's high anonymity but aside that, they have nothing more to offer when compared to Bitcoin, after the hard fork of 2017 Bitcoin Cash was supposed to be a major threat to Bitcoins due to it's large block size and that it would make transaction faster and even cheaper. Major crypto people like Roger Ver even claimed that Bitcoin Cash was the real bitcoin but it all came to nought.

I think because BTC is the first successful crypto currency and it is the most trusted .
It is the center of crypto most of the people rely on it when it comes to converting their crypto into cash and most of the new one in crypto only trust or hold BTC.

That's still count, people trust made Bitcoin the top crypto currency around the market, even there's a lots of new projects that been introduced and Making it's name and really working out fine but in the end of the day Bitcoin will still gather more interest and support from investors and traders who knows how to play well inside market, it's all about support and trust from the end users.

Promises won make any altcoin greater than Bitcoin because they must need to prove their words by action just like what bitcoin did 10 years or more now
And what I do believe is Bitcoin cannot be surpassed by any of altcoin today and until the future,from the very beginning never in any coins comes close to the capitalization of this Great coin and unto now Bitcoin proves the dominance and will be till then.

Bitcoin was created by an anonymous person, this person made people feel that each one of them can contribute and make the currency better, people feel safe because there is no one (currency creator) who will be constantly on twitter making updates of currency development news to induce pump and dump.

Look at the altcoins, if altcoin Z creates something new, days later dozens of altcoins appear that will copy altcoin Z. so it's easy for you to imagine that things like this don't end well

Is there any alt coin that is not copied from bitcoin, there are coins with added privacy but the core is still taken from bitcoin and we are yet to see what the government will do with all these privacy coins when they enforce regulation in the market and i guess they will force the exchanges to remove the privacy coins if they want to be regulated.

If the developers could come together and come up with solutions rather than having different factions then no coin can replace bitcoin. The truth is we do not want many decentralized coins to trade world wide, we just need bitcoin, if everyone comes up with their own currency then what is the point of this revolution.

Even for 3rd generation cryptocurrencies, the basic concepts are the same as that of Bitcoin, such as having a controlled supply system, transactions stored in Blockchain, generating new coins through mining (either PoW or PoS).etc. Unless we get a drastically different coin that can challenge the supremacy of Bitcoin, don't even think that BTC will be overtaken or surpassed.

One of the reasons, is because Bitcoin had first mover advantage and people are too lazy to see there are coins with superior technology.

After Interpol sees that Bitcoin is dismantled, the alt coins will shine later on after the market recovers.

I hope no coin ever takes the place of Bitcoin and that people become smart enough to buy each coin based on the value of that coin itself.

Buying alt coins only when Bitcoin is doing well is the stupidest thing I have ever witnessed in my life and many people are trading that way.

Bitcoin is the first crypto currency and therefore people have more trust in it. Also the bitcoin quantity is less and limited and therefore its demand and price will increase.





Many altcoins are made with the purpose of making money. Bitcoin, on the other hand is the only crypto which is widely used in buying and selling.
Only bitcoin has the capability to replace the fiat. Even eth and ripple are unable to come even close to bitcoin.

@Rozita Bitcoin is the original crypto rest are alts hence the public has never taken them seriously, and many of them are difficult to liquidate e.g. bitcoin cash. Another reason is people are not aware of other crypto’s as most of them have only heard of bitcoins. Also the Alt coin industry has had many scams relating to ICO’s which has dented investors confidence in them, and when they invest in bitcoins they feel secured despite it’s volatile nature.

I believe that if Cryptocurrency will be widely adopted, Bitcoin should be the frontrunner of adoption, because Bitcoin has all the fundamentals of Cryptocurrency, all who will get into Cryptocurrency should first understand Bitcoin and how it started.

There is no shortcut for this, we should not correlate Cryptocurrency to other technology they are very much different.
You are right when you said that these clone coins are created to make the company rich, Bitcoin is for us and was created for us.

Yes because of such long period BTC has been adopted much more than any other coin. And when someone talks about crypto-currency then the first name comes into the mind is BTC. Though I am not agreed with your second point, all other coins were created after the creation of BTC so they are supposed to be advanced in technology than the bitcoin. But trust and popularity is the main factor in which BTC is leading in huge margin.

The same reason why so many ecurrencies have not displaced PayPal since. The answer is simple. Many people use bitcoin and trust bitcoin more than any other crypto. In fact the price of most altcoin are traded and lock to BTC as you can see in many exchange platform. Well, we are in the digital world and I think it is different if we compare to a car and a device like a phone that having innovation. Altcoins will remain altcoin and bitcoin is the main cryptocurrency and no one can replace bitcoin. If you noticed all trading pairs on the exchange were having Bitcoin. Every transaction will circulate the value and the supply of bitcoin that makes this cryptocurrency alone strong. Indeed, I don't think it will replace altcoin.

Some other coins has reach a successful height in their own standards. But bitcoin is the coin with the highest volume and demands. The popularity already has edged it above others. An average person with low knowledge of cryptocurrency initially feels it's all about bitcoin.
If other coin can gets attention from people it might increase their success

 It is not so easy that any altcoin will have replaced bitcoin. This is because,  It is the first advance Blockchain technology that have gained trust by people. They belive "BTC may dump but BTC is not a scam coin, at all". Probably this is one of the mejor cause  behind BTC Dominance. Etherium may Dominance with large number of share in cryptocurrency market but would be unable to replaced bitcoin.

Bitcoin cannot be equated with Electronic hardware, such as television, which is becoming increasingly obsolete, so it is replaced by a new model.  Bitcoin is an electronic currency that has a very high selling value, where it is getting longer the value is not decreasing but instead increasing.  That's why until now no Altcoin has been able to replace Bitcoin, because they are new and the value is still small, while the Bitcoin that first appeared will continue to increase in value and will not be overtaken.

To answer your question with your own analogies, why hasn't "3D" Television replaced everything completely?

When a new technology comes, the next that offers an "upgrade" isn't necessarily accepted. While truly revolutionary technologies end replacing everything behind, sometimes things come that people do not want, or at least do not want at that point in time (Ahead of its time, see Apple's Newton, tablets in the 90ies).

Your car anology is a bit backwards, but then again electric cars came before gasoline cars, they weren't particularly useful or wanted back then, they are now. Your Lamborghini would need to be thrown against a Tesla Roadster (the newer edition), and it would beat it, without any vroom... Engines were invented in a particular historical succession, with Steam coming earlier then the others, but the others proved far more efficient, smaller and reliable.

Why no altcoin has succeeded? Perhaps none of their proposals are good enough yet, or they are also sacrificing something critical that people are not willing to risk their money into. (Such as centralization).

Many have tried to match Bitcoin but most of them failed yet there are who passed too yet people still choose Bitcoin no matter how many times they have to fork it they will still remain as an altcoin. Bitcoin is the father of all cryptocurrency today that ever existed and thanks to Satoshi for making this innovative technology to fight against the banking system.

Because they try to replace Bitcoin using Bitcoin's own code or because the coin's motive is only to enrich its creator, traders and whales in the community are more on Bitcoin then these altcoins, for us to get adopted Bitcoin should go first, Bitcoin is not something that you should just use, but you also need to undestand how it works.

There is one simple plain reason why bitcoin is still on the top.Every coin has a owner but in case of bitcoin there is no particular owner.
Everybody is the owner. Now this might look like a shitpost but deep down, it's the actual truth and the ultimate reason why bitcoin cannot be destroyed by anything.

For now it seems btc will still continue to reign supreme, btc is the first and everyone hold it in high esteem, but that does not mean it is impossible to see another that will take its place, crypto existence is still young, you never know what could happen in the future, it can't always be btc for the rest of human existence, something will change it eventually.

In my opinion, the cryptocurrency market is still very young and the first competitor to Bitcoin is Ethereum.  Perhaps in the near future the situation may change dramatically, because compared to Bitcoin, Ethereum has a much faster transaction speed and the transaction cost has decreased again.  Of course, scalability is still the main problem on the path to mass use, as well as before attracting large sums of money from a large business.  But I hope that the team will do everything to solve this problem.

No, because Ethereum was made too centralized, reflected by the fact that they can undo blockchain transactions on a whim, which permanently damaged its reputation. Oh and infinite supply...

Centralization is the biggest weakness of many altcoins, but not the only one. I don't even know of any altcoin deserves the term "competitor" at this point, as they all combined keep moving less than Bitcoin alone.

Bitcoin isn't perfect but so far the alternatives have been far from being better. This is bad for everyone, of course. Perhaps another one will come made by (yet another) anonymous developer who will disappear permanently following Satoshi's footsteps. That would be the first step in dismantling any scam or profit scheme accusation (ie. Litecoin guy selling his Litecoins). Having its own blockchain (and not piggybacking on anyone else's as "token") probably helps. Then being centralized, ie. unstoppable. A well made code that will keep the coin design following its route whenever that may be. No identifiable individual or company you could destroy to destroy the coin, basically the opposite of many altcoins.

And even after all that, it takes something especial to be recognized by the community. Faster transactions? Bigger anonymization? How about security and redundancy, ease of use, etc.

If Satoshi were to make Bitcoin today, what would he/she/they made different after magically having earned these 10 years of past experience? THEN we MIGHT see something remotely resembling competition. Most of what we have now is useless and or not trusted, and there is the addition that there is simply too many, among all that garbage may a gem remain hidden, but most people can't spot it yet.

I am not certain but all I know is that bitcoin will never be replaced by any altcoin even if we continue what Satoshi wants to do with it is because a lot of people are earning their profit from it. It is the first successful crypto currency so obviously it will be the first one to be expensive and with its volatility, the price can be quickly manipulated to reach great heights that will boost more profit and will boost more demand in the near future.

I guess it's an unconscious respect for Bitcoin by other cryptos that has still made them all to queue behind it, rather than overtake it  ??? That's just a mild joke. On a serious note, I believe is greed from the altcoins devs that has continually gone against them. I bet the anonymity of Satoshi is a plus for the growth of Bitcoin and it goes a long way to curtail the greed that might have sprung if Satoshi was known and directly involved. In 2017, I thought Bytebal would've overtaken Bitcoin for it was the second to Bitcoin in price but it just couldn't do the magic. Now Bytebal is just as ordinary as most of the altcoins with low prices.

I don't think it applies to Cryptocurrency, Cryptocurrency runs on code and all these altcoins are just cloned of Bitcoin who are all using Bitcoin code with alteration, it's better to learn how Cryptocurrency works the first time using Bitcoin and not it's clone coins.

And besides Bitcoin's dominance is now over 70%

For now, yes no coin can replace bitcoin. because of

1. First inovation for decentralized digital money
2. First blockchain system
3. Mother of cryptocurrency

But in the future, it's possible for other coin to replace it. Just remember Nokia or blackberry history, Nokia is one of the best phone in his era, they have great innovation, but now you know they replaced by samsung and other android phone.

This also almost same with blackberry, blackberry only just rely on their BBM, but now they replaced with other phones and their BBM replaced by whatsapp

what about now ? bitcoin is not new anymore , its been so many years that bitcoin existed in the space and there are now millions of coins have been created but still bitcoin is on the top . in the future you can say all those stuff . bitcoin will still be the first no matter how long it goe's  .

nothing is replaced . nokia , bbm and other older brands are still there  . they did catch up and built thier own android phones .

I don't think it will happen in the near future. We are far from seeing that moment that bitcoin will ever be replaced by another altcoin.

The reason why no altcoin replaces the king is that they all have the same idea and purpose. And those purposes that they are coming up with can already be seen to bitcoin and majority of us would want to stay on it.

It can be true, but I think it is not only the reason for this case.
Some altcoins are trustable and potentially improve well in the future, but there are no coins as the real competitors of Bitcoin so far. I can understand this situation since Bitcoin has been proven longer than others. Moreover, Bitcoin is still the main factor to determine the "up or down" the prices of crypto coins till now. So, it is not surprising if no altcoins can replace it. 

Bitcoin was the first of its kind to come into the mainframe of cryptocurrencies. Altcoins were created and introduced to the world later.
Bitcoin holds almost 70% of the market cap, leaving only a small margin for Altcoins and other Cryptocurrencies. The various kinds of Altcoins circulating in the market are creating unwanted competition for themselves.
New Altcoins are introduced very frequently in the market, and many even die a natural death. Whereas, Bitcoin has stood the test of time.
The ROI that Bitcoin has offered over the years to investors is much higher than any Altcoin has ever yielded. These are the many reasons why Altcoins have not surpassed Bitcoin yet.

Who knows maybe that coin has not been born yet, never say never, everyday new project keeps coming into the crypto community looking to make a change or right some flaws they think btc has but so far none has been able to come to per with btc,
good thing is the space is vast and full of endless opportunity so there is more than enough room for young and fresh innovations to step in as at when due.

You've mentioned all about advancement that has taken place with the telecommunications sector, automotive industry and several other industries where the growth keeps on progressing with a new thing more innovative taking advantage over the old one. This is true and the reality is being experienced.

By this time you failed to remember or mention gold which till date hasn't got outdated or decline in its value. Also nothing big has come to take rule over. This has crossed years and years, and now gold has got to be used in different forms digitally which is the advancement. Same is our bitcoin, it'll get used and accessible in different forms which is the advancement and nothing gonna replace it.

I mean some altcoins didn't really copy the blockchain network but as an intellectual user of cryptocurrency, you'll stick the uniqueness.

Obviously, bitcoin has the original idea and have been through a lot of struggles in the on-chain network. Bitcoin was already developed and made some of the users made a layer 2 solutions on this digital currency.

People trust the bitcoin more than any other coins available in the market and that will ever be created, Satoshi is anonymous and built the bitcoin on a very valuable technology and he doesn't even have control over it now, and the government can not arrest anyone for been the creator of bitcoin and it has nothing like board of directors.

I think no altcoin can be replace of BTC as whole world measurement digital currency with satoshi at first. You also will see every alt coin pair with BTC which is basic of digital currency. So i think in future also BTC will be unique and no alt can defect it until another currency system come in world.

It is difficult for altcoin to shift the position of bitcoin as king in the cryptocurrency market. With a limited supply and has also begun to be recognized as a digital asset, bitcoin will always be the first choice for investors. For me, the reason is the maximum decentralization of Bitcoin in relation to all altcoins. Nobody knows Satoshi Nakamoto and for many years no one has changed anything on the Bitcoin network, there were no deceptions and manipulations. This makes Bitcoin the number one coin and the most trusted ever so no one altcoin can get ahead of it despite the better functionality.

You are only thinking about bitcoin in terms of its technology but bitcoin is more than that, bitcoin is money and money is based on trust, gold and silver were the main forms of money for thousands of years, despite its flaws the US dollar has been the reserve currency of the world for one hundred years, and bitcoin has been the leader of this market since day one, no altcoin has reached the level of trust that bitcoin has, most altcoins despite the hype are copies of bitcoin and do not bring to the table anything that the bitcoin devs could not implement in the future, the devs working on bitcoin are the best in the world and the first mover advantage of bitcoin seems unbeatable at this point.

I am sure there are even more reasons why no alt is even close to challenge bitcoin and its leadership over this market but those are the first that came to my mind.

Being the first or Alpha does not ensure a spot to be the "king" as most would say. It is true that there are some altcoins that works better that Bitcoin but still, no one replaces Bitcoin. I think the trustworthiness of Bitcoin let it stay from the top. But I can't deny that with altcoins many community had a chance to earn bitcoin because of it and I am one of them actually. I feel that bitcoin is different from all these types of developments from time to time. Bitcoin is too high and the more people believe it, the stronger bitcoin is at the top. Bitcoin could have very large marketcap but it usage still could be small. Other coins very well overtake BTC in usage , transaction amounnts and speed while BTC still is the number one option for investment.

We are not in the politics which we could vote whose next to become president, whose in favor with Bitcoin. But even we do voting system, Bitcoin will still win and people would choose for it.
Bitcoin remains at top cause the community looks it valuable. Indeed, it was and no other coins could offer such a thing. Thus, keeping into the situation like this, it is our own discretion to thinks whos best and whos gonna be more profitable. Profits is what we looking for, not the name.

I believe that no other altcoin has been able to replace Bitcoin, simply because they lack the mainstream adoption necessary to keep moving forward. After all, Bitcoin is the original cryptocurrency with first-mover advantage on the market. It's not simple to take down a cryptocurrency that has been used by many people for years. Despite many altcoins being superior than Bitcoin in terms of technology and features, they still lack the branding and trust Bitcoin has obtained since inception. It might happen someday, people used to think Myspace was the best and then Facebook overtook it.  Bitcoin has become super dominant but so have many other companies in the past and then they end up losing market share.  Also don't forget that bitcoin had a couple inflation bugs in the past.

I can't agree with that because Bitcoin is still the most accepted and the most implemented coin in.real world. Some altcoins like Ethereum or Litecoin have managed to be good accepted by users but they haven't replaced Bitcoin, they are just used along with it.

Because bitcoin had already prove that they are trusted unlike other altcoin projects that are keep showing on altcoin threads with promising whitepaper but in the end it was just like others that are shit and undervalued as the time goes by. Many altcoins have been introduced to become better than Bitcoin, to introduce a new technology all together but none has been able to do so. Bitcoin still remains the king and no one can replace it.

What you are saying is true for some of the alts, such as Ethereum. Vitalik never claimed that Ethereum will replace Bitcoin in the future. But I remember the Cardano supporters claiming that its technology is much more advanced than that of Bitcoin and it is only a matter of time before ADA replaces Bitcoin as the number one cryptocurrency in terms of market cap. And it is not just Cardano, but several other cryptos have made the same claim.

The basic flaw with all these other cryptocurrencies is that they try to use the original idea by Satoshi with some minor modifications. The purpose of BTC is not clear and it's used by a very small group of individuals, so it's difficult improve something that's is difficult to explain what it's useful for.    

With the positive things you said about bitcoin, there's no need for people to switch into another coin or even altcoins just to satisy them because bitcoin alone is already very beneficial to them. The popularity of bitcoin even at the present time will always on top and will never be outdated with altcoins so they cannot surely replace bitcoin from its position because bitcoin will always be the king of crypto and will always have the biggest trust from the people compared to altcoins.

Agree. What Bitcoin has on top of other altcoins is trust among everything. Being the oldest and most secure cryptocurrency, is one of the reasons why most people prefer Bitcoin than any other altcoin on the market. It took quite a long time and effort for Bitcoin to become the biggest cryptocurrency in the world. With widespread adoption from businesses, merchants, and companies alike, it has become the standard of the crypto world. Of course, we cannot hide the fact that most altcoins are superior than Bitcoin in terms of features and scalability. Some are capable of processing thousands of transactions per seconds at faster speeds than the pioneer cryptocurrency. But unfortunately, they lack mainstream adoption which is essential towards the longevity of any cryptocurrency.

Nonetheless, there's still the possibility of an altcoin replacing Bitcoin in the future, if it becomes extremely prominent within the mainstream world. Bitcoin's contender would need to provide unparalleled scalability, stable prices, and most of all, mainstream adoption in order to take its place as the world's largest cryptocurrency by market cap. But be aware, that it would take a lot of effort for this to happen as Bitcoin has a huge market cap and recognized branding. Perhaps, within a couple of years from now, we will see Bitcoin at the same place in market cap while altcoins are left behind as secondary assets. After all, Bitcoin's market dominance is on the rise where altcoins only control 30% of the market. Which is why, it'll be hard or nearly impossible for any altcoin to take down Bitcoin's place on the market anytime soon. Just my thoughts ;D

I don't think that any of the existing altcoins are capable of replacing Bitcoin in the near future. Coins such as Ethereum, Ripple, Litecoin.etc doesn't pose any challenge to Bitcoin because they are unable to capitalize on the deficiencies of Bitcoin. In some aspects, they are even worse than Bitcoin. So the users don't see any reason to use these coins instead of Bitcoin.

It was an entirely different idea when compared to the existing technologies and even after 10+ years none of the other developers have come even close in creating something that could challenge Bitcoin, and at the same time maintaining its own uniqueness.

This have been asked so many times already but let me give my opinion about this thing again. Altcoin cannot replace Bitcoin's throne because of the term we called "superiority" meaning that Altcoins won't exist without Bitcoin itself. Yes, Bitcoin was the first and it started crypto revolution but I can't agree that other altcoins can't exist without Bitcoin. That was just a trigger.
No other coin has replaced Bitcoin because the market hasn't accepted anyone of them in a way they would achieve bigger value and  acceptance compared to Bitcoin. Bitcoin has certain advantage because it was first but if any other coin proved on the market to be better it would have replace Bitcoin. But that didn't happen.

The idea of altcoin was not meant to replace bitcoin, I struggle with this argument always. The Idea is to take care of other features bitcoin cant do. Though some have struggle to believe why bitcoin has been excelling so well even with the limited functions but I believe at a point in the growing space we will place our priority right. Even the anonymous coins in the space function in a different level and path. I think any other altcoin couldn't match the level bitcoin. So that's why altcoin couldn't replace bitcoin. Basic difference between bitcoin and altcoin are prices, popularity, features which altcoins are lack of comparing to bitcoin.

I agree, Bitcoin is the currency that commands and the other altcoins depend on Bitcoin, simply because they have no life of their own. The dependence of the altcoins will always be given, there is no way other currency that can compete with Bitcoin given the history that has been presented.

It isn't life of their own, it is all because of the dependence. Just think of bitcoin which is valued in terms of USD. This doesn't mean it has a life of its own. There are few cryptocurrencies that have its individuality but they're not up to the level of the one that served to be the base for the entire cryptocurrency network.

Oh! I see. I get your point mate. As I think of what you've said, I may say that's a possible way to knock down btc. If we assume that every government of all nation decides to ban the use of btc in their country but allow the remaining alts then it will surely die because the demand will be forcibly lost  And most probably the ending would be ETH reigning as the new king. Well, that's only an assumption and very hard to put in reality so gor now BTC will stay and remain on top ;D.

Bitcoin is known to be the most profitable coin for now but i think it will still come to its own expiration in time. It will still lose its value because a much better coin will soon to arise and definitely replace its position. But that might happen in an indefinite time. No one can predict exactly when will bitcoin loses its value but for me, as soon as technology keeps on evolving, changes will take place and a new more developed coin will soon be invented.

The best any coin can do is to displace another in terms of some arbitrary metrics. Ethereum was a pretender to the Bitcoin crown in market cap. I've actually seen altcoins whose single coin value was more than Bitcoin at one point. Don't know if it was ever really bought and sold on actual orders, but hey, that's one way to replace it.

But segments of Bitcoin use? Sure. I remember when Monero first spiked noticeably, in 2016 when supposedly darkmarkets adopted it. They didn't replace Bitcoin, but Monero took over any roles of anonymity that people mistakenly thought Bitcoin had.

No one can replace Bitcoin in a crypto space when it comes to ranking competition in Coin market cap. Remember that altcoins remained altcoin and that is different from Bitcoin. I remember before, back then a year 2017 that Ethereum was almost surpassed the Bitcoin price, but the Ethereum did not make it. Maybe this coin will follow the step on Bitcoin and I saw news and rumors that Ethereum blockchain will increase their transaction fee like Bitcoin fee.

Although it is possible that Bitcoin will be replaced in the near future, I just don’t think there is a coin worth to replace it yet as of now. But who knows, maybe someone will make a better cryptocurrency and mold it into a much better coin than Bitcoin then everyone would know about it for sure. It’ll be all over the news by then but so far I don’t think its possible with the new coins created though based on its platforms. Just my opinion though.

A temporary spike can't be mistaken for an altcoin bull run. After a short spike which lasted one or two weeks, the altcoin exchange rates are going down once more. The users have realized that as of now most of these coins have very little practical usage. In my opinion, they will continue to go down, with or without Bakkt. Just because Bakkt has been launched, it is not going to give any lifeline for these shitcoins.

The main reason we have not seen any alternative coin replacing Bitcoin is just the interest. Most of the projects are there to grab the money and even dump on investors. Remember Bitcoin was already a finished product with extensive research for years before it was launched. Until we have a paradigm change where the interest will be on the successful outcome of the use cases and not when lambo? when moon? but rather when will this or that feature will be added, then we are still far from seeing any project competing with Bitcoin.

Bitcoin as it is today, can't work. Satoshi could support the development of Bitcoin. The old addresses are an issue. And we need a Quantum secure network.

Strongly agree, bitcoin is the determinant of altcoin. for all fields, bitcoin is very clear and can determine altcoin, but not vice versa. so I haven't seen a very surprising correlation that altcoin will be able to replace bitcoin.

I agree with you that bitcoin will not be replaced by some altcoins even though they have power, still their main thing is to get bitcoin, even though they have strong and good technology they still won't be able to replace bitcoin and it's quite impossible to do it. .

Most of the top cryptocurrencies are exchanged via Bitcoin, I don't think there will be a single currency that will replace bitcoin. The mysteries of this money bring really curious. Besides, Bitcoin is the first currency and brings the blockchain technology we know until today.

I have my stash if cryptocurrencies and each one has it's own use case; I use some as hedge funds and others to access a certain product. Bidooh for example is used to purchase exposure on digital billboards. Bitcoin can not serve all this purposes, so every investment should have a target market.
If I were a developer, I wouldn't aim at replacing Bitcoin, rather I'd look for a unique way to utilize the blockchain.

The same goes for the "68%" dominance thing you are talking about. Just because it has 68% dominance does not mean that no other altcoin in the future can't replace bitcoin.
People have heard more about bitcoin than altcoin when anyone talks about crypto currencies. Bitcoin has been the first and the oldest crypto currency out there. Thus, people trust bitcoin more than any other coins and they are kinda reluctant to give chances to the new altcoins.

I completely agree with your opinion, since Bitcoin is not a panacea for the entire cryptocurrency market.  Perhaps Bitcoin will remain a valuable asset in the cryptocurrency market for most cryptocurrency users, but I believe that quite a few cryptocurrencies can claim leadership thanks to the best qualities.  I always hope that on the cryptocurrency markets it is Ethereum that will replace Bitcoin, but if you take into account, for example, the history of the dogecoin coin creation, as well as what results this project has achieved, even Dogecoin can completely replace Bitcoin.  Although I'm sure there are more suitable cryptocurrencies for this.

Basically, altcoins are copies of Bitcoin one way or another. Some are a direct copy of BTC with the same source code and everything, while others mimic its properties/functionalities. If you take a deep look at the crypto industry, you'll notice that every altcoin is just an improved version of Bitcoin. It's pretty different from technological developments. Basically it's money and a money which got a first mover advantage. Think of it as USD of cryptocurrencies. It is quite old and many new currencies and economies have been built after that but they aren't able to take over USD in the world's market cap. Or think of it as some brand like Coca Cola which has got a first mover advantage in it's industry. Bitcoin has that same first mover advantage and people know cryptocurrencies because of bitcoin. This is the reason why no altcoin has replaced bitcoin. It was pretty late until any altcoin was developed BTC has already gathered a lot of heat so it remains the mainstream currency but this doesn't means it can never be replaced any new innovation which is popularized even more than btc can surpass BTC in future.

What I think is, the popularity of bitcoin is still in the line. many people see cryptocurrency = Bitcoin. the not enough knowledge base on what is cryptocurrency is still the factor on that. Because there's a several alts that is actually a good one, I can say that EOS and ETH have a potential to replace bitcoin for being first, but yet people still choosing bitcoin because simply bitcoin is the first cryptocurrency.

There are several alts that ARE better than btc when it comes to usage. Though if you're looking for one that would overthrow btc's dominance, i doubt you'll find one. Back then people were looking at ether to be the next in line. Then came alts like ripple and bch that challenged eth as the number 2 alt. I guess unless people understand what crypto is entirely, they'll see it mainly as bitcoin.

The popularity of BTC makes people believe its the best one. People think Btc more reliable than the altcoins in the market. Many people doesn’t even know the difference between some Alts, so they tend to believe all Alts are same. And we can’t deny many of alts are useless. I mean, many of them don’t even deserve the hype. So they disappear in short term. In this case, i don’t expect people to adopt the Alts enough to compete with BTC. But even bitcoin's price have decreased there is still a huge chance that bitcoin will recover it's price again from $20k in the near future.

Other cryptocurrencies are simply considered as "copies" of the original idea/project which is Bitcoin. I think you're wrong, Bitcoin is not the fastest in terms of transactions, there are many Altcoins whose processing speed exceeds Bitcoin.  the exact reason why Altcoin is unable to replace Bitcoin is that Altcoin is just a CLONE of Bitcoin that is trying to take part in the crypto market with better innovation, and cloning will not be able to replace the first.

I agree if you say that bitcoin is one of humanity's biggest innovations in the last few years and many altcoins were made after bitcoin. if you ask, why is there no altcoin that can replace bitcoin, of course there will be many reasons to answer it. among them, in my opinion because bitcoin is more influential. like a currency, bitcoin can be likened to USD and altcoin is like another country's currency. for the stability level of bitcoin is also still better than altcoin, so it will be impossible if altcoin will replace bitcoin. If you compare bitcoin with a television, car or cellphone, I think it's the wrong comparison and the unwise comparison, because all of that is an item or device, while bitcoin is the currency.

I think the reason why any altcoin haven't replaced bitcoin is that people tend to cling or go with the most trusted coin. Even me, I will go with the old yet most reliable and trusted coin. There's no need of so many thousands of alts when we have one coin we can go for. I get it, some may have better tx speeds, fees etc but that doesn't make them better than BTC. We don't need a stable price. Actually, we shouldn't have to look at the price at all. We have to be here for the tech, but unfortunately it's all been turned into a profit-only asset and most of the investors don't even care how revolutionary this could be and what cryptocurrencies could evolve into.

Instead of sustaining projects similar to XRP and Libra, I'd rather stick to BTC and only a few more alts such as Monero (for privacy) which are still here after many years and have had a good history. The rest of them cannot be called junk (although most of them are), but it's nonsense to have so many coins to choose from. It would've made sense if we had the ready-to-go atomic swap exchanges, but that these take some effort for now to be set up and I'd rather not risk anything.

The crypto world is too young to be sure about anything. Each coin can bring great profit and at the same time, it might disappear. Coins are different and so their purposes and strong sides are. we shouldn't compare them. Personally I think that the crypto world is wonderful not despite, but because of its diversity.

Hmm.. you are right. I read somewhere that up to 3 million BTC may be lost forever (i.e they could not be spent as the private keys are lost). And this number includes close to BTC980,000 held in Satoshi's wallets. And as time progresses, the number is most likely to increase. A lot of the users don't share their backups with anyone and if something happens to them, then these coins are gone.

The best example is that of the Canadian exchange QuadrigaCX. A huge amount of coins belonging to the exchange users were being held in a wallet and only the owner of the exchange (Gerald William Cotten) had the private keys to access them. 2. after its high rise in 2017 bitcoin became very popular and altcoin was not well known.

You have a point I am pretty sure that bitcoin could be replace by new currency however it will not be some altcoins  just like USD it never been replaced by any fiat but now bitcoin is gradually taking its crown in different manner. Many altcoins have come and gone over time delivering "superior" features without delivering true use cases within the mainstream world. Others have remained solid in their position on the market, but have been unable to outmatch Bitcoin in terms of mainstream adoption. Because of these reasons, it's very unlikely that the pioneer cryptocurrency will be replaced anytime soon. The only way Bitcoin can be taken down is if governments enforce tightening regulations against it. Other than that, I don't see any other altcoin taking its "throne" anytime soon.

But who knows? Given how fast Blockchain technology and the crypto space progresses, Bitcoin could be a thing of the past if it doesn't improve over time. That's certainly true, mate. The main reason why altcoins haven't replaced Bitcoin yet, is because they aren't as decentralized as the pioneer cryptocurrency. Their lack of support within the mainstream world, has left them with a lesser degree of security and censorship-resistance than Bitcoin. Small cryptocurrency networks that are based on PoW, are easily attacked by outsiders. On the other hand, Bitcoin hasn't experienced a disruption on its Blockchain network (as far as I know) making it the number one choice among people in the mainstream world.

Of course, we cannot deny that altcoins have far superior features than Bitcoin itself. Nowadays, you can obfuscate transactions, store data on the Blockchain, and even send encrypted messages on different cryptocurrencies available on the market today. Despite this, Bitcoin is and will always be the leader of crypto because of its censorship-resistance and store of value properties. Altcoins would need to gain massive adoption within the mainstream world (aside from being truly censorship-resistant) in order to compete with Bitcoin. But it seems very unlikely that altcoins will become superior than Bitcoin, because of the aforementioned reasons.

It also needs to have a proven track record of stability and reliability so that it can obtain the trust of people worldwide.

People like to stick to what they know and bitcoin works and works well and we all know about it. It is secure and safe to use. I think it is mostly because there is no real reason to change to anything else.

I believe 1 day an altcoin may very well replace Bitcoin. But Bitcoin was the original cryptocurrency.  It will always be worth something because it was the first.  But as far as fees and use cases some alts have already replaced it. Bitcoin was the pioneer of them all. It was the one that started the game and was able to keep up over the past decade of having new altcoins. It went from zero to hero specially on 2018 where its value reached $20k for a while but now that it is facing crisis, many are already starting to doubt it. Bitcoin is known as the father of Blockchain technology, and without it, many of the altcoins we know and love today wouldn't exist. We can't see any altcoin that will match with Bitcoin because of many different things that make it great. Haven been the mainstream manifestation of the Blockchain, make it totally different from all other altcoins. Most altcoins if not all are cat copy of Bitcoin technology. Most of the alt coins that are around are not actually offering anything new from what Bitcoins is already giving us so there is really no reason why people should be ditching Bitcoin and be going in for the Altcoins I am sure other coins with new features unlike bitcoins will tempt others.

With 50%+ market dominance? and there are still doubts on bitcoin to be replaced? Even there are coins such EOS, Ethereum or XRP that is way much better than it, Bitcoin will always be bitcoin. The only one who lifted the crypto space up and garnered a lot of investors through the process. So I guess altcoins would take so much time to take the position of bitcoin now. On top of that is the growing adoption processes of big companies with bitcoin making it more popular.

Based on your comparison, people were able to invent one thing greater from another. In my opinion that is probably because there was a physical machine to improve unlike in the blockchain world where everything is virtually present and it was a challenge to improve everything.

Completely agree with you, mate. Most altcoins are focused on hype, rather than working on their core Blockchain protocol or even taking their time for marketing/promotion within the mainstream world. The closest, most successful coin to Bitcoin has been Ethereum ever since it launched back in 2015. The rest of the altcoins are more of the same, mostly driven by hype than anything else. There are some cryptocurrencies which have been abandoned in development too (like Dogecoin). I believe that's the true reason why altcoins haven't been able to replace Bitcoin to this date (aside from the fact that all cryptocurrencies are based on Bitcoin's Blockchain technology). It's not easy to overcome the original cryptocurrency project which started it all.

Which is why, I believe that Bitcoin will remain as the "King" of crypto for the foreseeable future. Unless a new cryptocurrency comes up with better a tech than Blockchain itself, I don't see altcoins replacing the original cryptocurrency anytime soon. Bitcoin is and will always be the #1 cryptocurrency in the world for a very good reason. After all, it's the most decentralized cryptocurrency in existence today. Altcoin developers should learn that it's about decentralization above all else. Once they realize this, altcoins will be able to succeed to "infinity and beyond". Just my thoughts ;D

Simply because, while in the examples you cited there has always been an improvement, no cryptocurrency is better or equal to bitcoin: decentralization, immutability, incensurability. All the other crypto experiments don't have simultaneously and all these advantages/protections. That's why, to date, bitcoin is the the only currency OF THE people.

There are so many reasons why Bitcoin has never been replaced, but if we take as a whole, Bitcoin simply supports most investors and because of the large capitalization in the market, no one can replace Bitcoin.

Some Altcoin seem to be created to fail that is why Bitcoin  has no close competitors. Most of the Altcoin rely upon Bitcoin for growth.
We have seen the bad energy of majority of Altcoin on the blockchain.  This is disadvantaged as it has made government and some stakeholders to have a wavy trust on cryptocurrency. Make it difficult for the scalability of Bitcoin.

Due to the popularity, I think that altcoin can't replace bitcoin until now. And also Bitcoin is a pioneer in blockchain people will never forget Bitcoin because if there's no Bitcoin then there's no cryptocurrency. Bitcoin's the first and original crypto currency so there's a uniqueness to it that no other altcoin has. It was first and absorbed the market share before any other crypto was able to target a user base. Litecoin was the most recent alternative proceeding Bitcoin and the prices/demand aren't remotely comparable so there was evidence early on that no one would adopt altcoins like they would Bitcoin. Newer coins with better technology like Ether have somewhat a viable path to compete with Bitcoin but not overtake it for the simple fact that any deviations from the norm make people uncomfortable. Right now, Bitcoin's the norm and it isn't going to change. Oh, and you can't forget the fact that 99 percent of newer altcoins are worthless garbage pump and dump scams.

The field of cryptography is too new to be sure of anything. Can coin may yield great profit and may vanish at the same time. Coins are different and therefore their function and strong sides are different. We're not supposed to compare them. Personally, I think the crypto world is beautiful not because of its diversity, but because of it. Bitcoin is at the core of all altcoins and should be respected, coins and their developers should avoid trying to harm Bitcoin with their false narratives and lies because if you harm Bitcoin you just harm the value of your own coin and all other altcoins. Users of cryptocurrencies have more trust to bitcoins than altcoins. I'm sure that there is no altcoins that can replaced bitcoin in terms of market capitalization and of course volume. It has nothing to do with Bitcoin community having the money or the power. Just because a coin claims that it is superior to Bitcoin, the users are not going to suddenly dump BTC and go after that particular cryptocurrency. There should be clear reason for that. As of now, Bitcoin is not 100% perfect. The other coins are not able to replace it, because they themselves are not that good either.

I know ETH is good coin and it has better acceptance in market but even then it can never beat value of bitcoin.

Bitcoin is the base of the blockchain system. Though technology is updated and lots of crypto coin has been created. But Bitcoin is the master of crypto technology. I don't think any crypto will be able to get ahead of Bitcoin. In the future, Bitcoin will become dominion on the blockchain.

Because we haven't any altcoins that back by giant company yet, and once that happens bitcoin will face his first real competitor and we might see the bitcoin get beaten in term of market domination and usage. Libra would probably take over if governments allow facebook to go in its direction without limitation to become a currency that can be used by people all over the world. At the end of day, most people just a currency that they could move easily, they don't that much on other stuff, just see how they prefer to use centralized exchange over decentralized. having that said, bitcoin will play the rule of gold in future, I don't see it to be a currency that will used to purchase our daily needs.

That's certainly true, mate. Altcoins are far away from replacing Bitcoin anytime soon. There's a large gap between altcoins' and Bitcoin's market cap. Even with the most advanced technologies and features used by many altcoins of today, Bitcoin is still the "King" for a very good reason. The first thing a person topples up with is Bitcoin above all else. After all, every other cryptocurrency depends on it to succeed. Altcoins have been unable to maintain independence from Bitcoin whatsoever. The only altcoin which is close enough to achieving this is Ethereum. But even the world's second largest cryptocurrency by market cap, is not as popular as Bitcoin is. Lots of marketing/promotion and mainstream adoption is needed for an altcoin to truly overcome Bitcoin within the mainstream world.

As time goes by, we'll be able to see vast improvements in the Blockchain industry. We cannot deny the fact that every single cryptocurrency is based on Bitcoin's core Blockchain technology. Which means that you cannot defeat the original project which started it all. In order to make the difference, an altcoin needs to have a completely revolutionary technology that solves many of the known limitations of Blockchain today. It's because Bitcoin is the, origin of crypto currency and major investors, specially the early ones have most of their funds in Bitcoin as Bitcoin is the most promising and trusted coin of all of crypto market, along with the fact that Bitcoin had many years more of growth than any other alt coins makes it leading in that sense as well :)

Bitcoin is at the peak when it comes to trust. Bitcoin has become synonymous to cryptocurrencies. Any new investors or trader always starts with Bitcoin first. The market isn't that big in valuation that people can consider utility as an important factor. Right now, crypto is just a speculation asset through which you can grow your money in short term. Unless the market becomes big enough that people actually will start investing in idea. No other coin can replace btc.

It is simple, the concept of alternative will explain it all. The reason why they are called alternative is becauss there is a cryptocurrency that is leading the way to development and these altcoins are the alternatives if ever people couln't have the chance to be use or in othe rcase they are more suited for a certain usage or aspect. If and only price is the only basis, then this concept could be flushed out, but no, twe need to acknowledge the existence of a cryptocurrency that is first enabled and opened us to the world of digital payments and transactions.

Actually altcoin was created as a complement to the bitcoin which is improving or presenting features that bitcoin doesn't have, but why hasn't any those coins replace it, well people trust bitcoin more than altcoin I think this is one of the reasons why they can't replace bitcoin at least for now, besides that altcoin still depends on bitcoin, people still trade altcoin for bitcoin or vice versa, it's hard to predict which altcoin will surpass bitcoin's price.

In the long run of cryptocurrency, bitcoin is one of the first coins created by a person called now as Satoshi Nakamoto, and the price of the bitcoin before is not valuable. However, still, people are using this coin to buy some things like money. After many years the price of the bitcoin growing up and gives a huge profit to the holders and they made looks like a duplicate of the bitcoin but not the same of it this we called now as alternative coins or the altcoins these coins are substitute to the bitcoin and today there are a lot of this. One thing why the altcoin cannot beat the price of the bitcoin because of the market price the altcoin must take a long year and becomes popular with the people to face the market price of the bitcoin.

No one wants to store their wealth in a crypto-currency that will get replaced with another one eventually.

For all altcoins, I'm sure Bitcoin is like a grandfather and won't be replaced with anything else, but I never put anything on BTC.
