In the course of this year, ethereum has mostly not been promising due to the many disappointing times we have experienced. Sometimes, it even become very difficult to know when to hold or sell out some ethereum. All the same, many people who trust in altcoins have kept some great faith in ethereum and that is an amazing motivation that ethereum can really bounce back and be the strong force most hodlers wish for.

What type of disappointment you are talking about? you can't  put the blame of Ethereum for failing to surge in value when bitcoin dominance keeps climbing up and aiming higher, Eth is doing fine for those who knows what's in stock for Eth blockchain, altcoin season is not here yet and ETH is showing good sign already, Eth is a must buy and hold for all altcoin lovers

I think the process of recovering the Ethereum price is on. According to coinmarketcap, ETH price has increased by 1.11% today. The current price is, 211$ but if you remember some weeks ago ETH was below $200. So, I still do believe in Ethereum and hoping it might cross $300 within this year. For that, a massive boost is needed and I think ETH can do it. We should wait more & more because to be successful in trading patience is very important.

Those who are holding ethereum I believe know what they are doing. If I have the privilege of holding more, I think I will do that. Which means that even at this time, there is still more hope.

I tend to agree. Ethereum has to be one of the most frustrating coins to day trade this year. It rises very slowly and falls very quickly. To make it worse, it drags other altcoins (on its blockchain) down along with it. Now we are experiencing an annoying increase in gwei. But better days are ahead. Let us be hopeful for new updates from the dev that will drive the price higher up.

Ethereum has been quite frustrating for over two weeks now. Gas fees are so high and the network lags hugely. Reminds me of a tweet from Vitalik where he said that the network has little space enough to take more cryptocurrency projects on its blockchain. I hope Ethereum 2.0 improves the network because its highly needed at the moment

Disappointing is an understatement, for me the new Ethereum 2.0 must be got right, if the platform fail to scale then bye -bye and this will be then end of the road for the platform. To me we need a truly decentralize platform in the space that can indeed give bitcoin a ride for it money, competition is health for the space but most of these projects can't compete

In my opinion this is one of the easiest thing to understand, this is about greed, if you look at the fundamentals of ethereum you will see a good coin that is still being actively developed, it has a decent volume and even if it's price it's kind of low this only means that this is a good opportunity to buy ethereum for a low price and hold it until its price begins to recover, but people do not want to do that they want to obtain fast profits without any effort and we know that is impossible.

Recently ETH has been doing great, from around 170$ to above 200$ is a cool step forward. Holders who didn't panic sell will be smiling right now and the ETH 2.0 news might still push it further. It's true that holders of ETH have been waiting for long without reasonable uptrend. Some argue that ETH won't do well again because the ICO era is over since ETH was mainly used in purchasing ICO boosting its price. I do believe ETH will be very beneficial to hold for long term seeing the project development on ground.

Ethereum is on the good path by now taking a great leap to $200+ again.
Sure that is still valuable since most of the coins by now are all full of dump.
My portlfolio is full of dusty coins which have been sitting there for a long time. Unlike Ethereum most of the coins now went to zero value or bankrupt.

It caused by etheruem is still placed in the second place of coinmarketcap. A little bounce has already happened with ethereum and what's wrong with it? as far as i can see about the fact that this bounce will bring ethereum to another bullish trend. Bitcoin's dominance should be the main factor why ethereum gives this reaction.
The bull trend for major crypto is not yet coming dude.

Ether this year of course, has not been a good coin to hold and hope for better returns. I only held some ether for the long term unlike coins like BTC and XRP that I am holding for the short term profit sake. I think the market is changing its trend so I have to start adding more ether to my holdings to also become a bag holder.

If you look at the distance between the price of Bitcoin and Etherum it is indeed very sad because the price difference is very far, if in the past Etherum prices were in the range of 10% - 15% of the price of BTC. This comment is not new. And most of the time, if not always, this kind of comment comes from people who are also new to the crypto world themselves. If you want to stay long in this world, you will have to develop your patience. Waiting for your coin to fly is not a short wait. It may even take years. I have Ether as a long term. Even a few months ago, ether was down, meaning that the price dropped rather large, I will still hold ether despite any conditions because the future is long, I only take advantage of altcoin as a short term.

I think ethereum is not disappointing although the price now still at a low price. But at a few days ago, ethereum price trying to increase and now, the price reaches $200. Many of us have make a lot of money from ethereum now because they already buy ethereum at a low price and now they can sell it to get their money back and they make a profit. We will see another higher price for ethereum soon, and we need to be patient for more. And with bitcoin price now is down, I think it could attract the altcoin to increase.

You need to understand that there are many bag-holders in Ethereum compared to Bitcoin. Someone about a month back did an analysis of the blockchain and did an estimated realized gains/losses calculation. Basically they used the price of the asset at the time a transaction was sent to determine if the position is in profit or loss.

They found that most hodl'er of BTC are in profit at the current prices, while for ETH there is something like 75% of people who are sitting at a loss. Then there is the possibility of all those ICOs which haven't sold their ETH. They had massive gains at the beginning of 2018 and if they didn't cash out yet, then they will use every opportunity to get out at the highest price possible. Basically ETH has too much selling pressure.

I don't think they are small problems... for me the most  disappointing is not the price on exchanges but the problems to use it. The gas price is always changing and people constantly waste eth on failed transactions. Sometimes we can make a really cheap transfer but it takes 2 days. I wonder why people are not building more things on stellar, waves and others yet.

If you are doubting when to buy or sell ethereum, why not bother to learn some technical analysis or indicators for you to know when is the right time to buy such coins like ethereum. And I disagree that ETH is not doing well this year, it is still strong and doing good. I still gain profits from it. Maybe you are just pessimistic about ethereum but I can still see that it had a great potential.

Let's not forget that 2-3 years ago (Jan 2017), ETH was around 12$
And let's not forget that blockchain is still an experimental tech, that has a lot of steps to go before it becomes trully scalable and usefull for society in general.
So, if we don't trust that the proven team of ETH can continue to develop and find solutions to the present issues, who will we trust?

ETH stopped being a good trading tool the day ICOs died. this was near the end of 2017 so about 22 months ago not just this year alone! and ever sine that time it has continued going down. it is not disappointing, it is natural course of things.

it is actually very easy.
when something is on a downtrend you must not try to go against that trend. this means if you are  a bag holder you must dump your bags the day it starts the downtrend. if you are a day trader then you can make a lot of profit by shorting that dumping coin. or if you don't like shorting you can still make profit from the "dead cat bounces" which means buying when it is showing recovery and dumping fast before the downtrend resumes.

you see, in trading you must adapt to the market instead of holding on tight to one strategy and wishing for the best! that never ends well.

this year ethereum is recovered from depth of its value. from $90 to $200 is not a disappointment .

Unfortunately, the ethereum team can do little to raise the price to a huge mark, because big players and manipulators decide when to dump or when to pump ethereum price, but it is also worth noting that the ethereum team is constantly developing its capabilities and technologies, so when the altcoin season will begin then ethereum will be able to show good growth and we only need to wait for this moment and hope that it will be very soon.

ICO is slowly dying and this is one factor to consider why Ethereum is being affected as well. Many investors are coming into crypto world without understanding that Long wait is the game of crypto either you are a investor or a promoter, there is no short earnings in crypto but not impossible like if pumps occurs or unless you are a good online trader, Eth is a very special altcoin and i don't see how its disappointing at all,in crypto patience is the KEY.

I am still holding ETH, but I am already disappointed with this choice. In July 2018 I took the decision to get into ETH instead of keeping BTCs and that was one of the biggest mistakes, that I have ever made. But the good thing is, it can't get worse  ;D

If you are not a short term trader and expecting any quick profit from Ethereum, you should not be bothering yourself over all these slow development of Ethereum because Ethereum is a long term project and it takes a lot to be done for Ethereum to be successful, if you want a short term trade that can be giving you profits often, I think that you should look at projects that have volatility for now like bitcoin, the good thing about bitcoin is that it is suitable for both short term and long term investment.

Ethereum will still grow in future, there is absolutely no doubt about that, the ICO market may be discouraging now and not helping Ethereum push its price up, but when regulation comes, all these bad projects that are spoiling Ethereum will disappear and they will have more of quality projects build their database again.

You live that chance and we live that hopes. We are all struggling hard and patiently waiting for ETH to bounce back but it seems too difficult, it maybe this is not the right time for ETH. Maybe OP disappointing on ICO when ethereum use to invest, if you see the price right now you will not be disappointing because its recoving faster from its alltime low and now the price above $200+.

I think the alt coin session is yet to arrive. It is not here yet, and when it comes, ETH price will inevitably rise. The current market is only dominated by BTC and none other crypto is on the line to challenge BTC in terms of growth, but once the session arrives, Eth will rise again. Just be patient my friend.

I am also disappointed about how ethereum has performed  for more than a year now but im sure in the end hodlers will be making the most profits but like most analysts i think that for max profits and to see max bull run we need to be patient for atleast 1 to 2 years more im very confident that all this patience will pay out big time.

I also made a transaction with the ethereum blockchain and I had no problems. whether it's better than a bitcoin network transaction or not, I don't really know. but Ethereum has started to develop their products for the better. Hopefully this will be responded well by the community and the market. Moreover, the Ethereum 2.0 update will be done next year, hopefully for the better.

I believe that soon we will break the  300$ mark all the more so the Istanbul harfork will take place, the development team corrects errors, makes the network faster, improves security, and therefore goes forward! .I believe in the future of Ethereum. I will agree with you that ethereum to some extents have disappointed the holders. The case study of when btc was at $20,000 and ethereum was at $1500 will explain a lot when you calculate the changes in their price value as at today.

I completely agree with you, the Ethereum devs have been extra disappointing of late, especially after all the continued promises of switching to POS every year. But the price drops can't all be blamed on the devs, the ETH price is fighting against constant selling pressure because of miners that are selling immediately as they earn ETH. Of course they have to pay for their upkeep and stay liquid!

The fuss around the Ethereum is pure speculation and crypto market traders don't want to be on another side of the market while the price of Ethereum keeps declining. The gas fees can be monitored with various sites and after checking the average gas fee you can set the right amount of the GWEI in order to accelerate your Ethereum transactions speed. The pending transactions are higher than an average day in the recent market crash and it will hold its status for a long time in my opinion.

I have not seen gas price in single digit for long time now. Its almost default to for 15-20 GWEI these days. not sure how to interpret these with the performance of Ethereum. But strongly believe there should be some correlation.

Ethereum is the base asset for %90 projects and it is the first one to rise when market is getting better. I think bull season will come with the increase of ETH, then others like NEO will follow. I am just waiting the right time to get in alts when ETH increases.

I gave up on investing in altcoins, because more than one and half years, those coins are not raising at all. I am fully in Bitcoin right now and believe that it is the best solution for now to wait for the bull market to come.

not only ETH but even all coins have decreased so it is wrong if you mention ETH gives disappointment and even almost dropped above 50% this also happens to BTC. If you expect the ETH to rise then the king initially must rise first, namely BTC.

I agree with you, Eth is currently in a standard state of increase in stock for the Eth blockchain, Ethereum is one of the second highest currencies in the world, in my opinion although ethereum is currently not like 2017, I believe ethereum will rise again, in when now we should be able to use it to invest even in small amounts, if not maybe you will regret it.

i dont know what you use as a measure to say eth has disappoint you this year but o me it has done a great as it move from $80 to over $200+ and all you could say is this well we know how this work than each other but i can tell you that this year has been a good one for eth and the future is also bright for next move.

By just looking at the graph, we can tell that's its really not doing well, I think most of the altcoins in the market has the same thread.

However, we need to understand that even in the past, this market already has a lot of struggles, it rises when there's a bull run and we might need a bull run now to see it rise again. What's important is we hold and look at the development as when this market recover, it will easily goes up again.

Most of the altcoins which platform is on ethereum tracks down the same path as Ethereum price. I'm expecting when bull run takes place most of the altcoins that is Ethereum platform based coins will go rise. I believe that ethereum will pump its price soon as I've seen on the chart.

I think the real problem is that we always want the best. At the end of 2017 when ETH reached $1,500, we all believe that it can do it again, maybe for a better price. If the price remained at $150-200 then the current price would be reasonable for all of us. I don't think Ethereum has been that disappointing because the entire crypto market is down and most altcoins have seen great reduction in their value. Hopefully we can see a rise in the entire crypto market by the end of this year so hold your Ethereum till then :)

the reason for ethereum is very promising in 2017 one of which is the popularity of ICO. At that time, most investments used Ethereum, and this made the ethereum price reputation reach a high price. after the ICO drop, I don't think there is a reason ethereum prices should pump.

I believe when you said that ethereum was quite disappointing to many people. but, at the moment ethereum 2.0 is being developed. that will most likely get people back to ethereum, and make the price recover. I still hope enough with ethereum.

For 2.0,its main attracting point is staking,nothing more IMO,only nodes operators are excited staking,not only for ETHEREUM 2.0,but many others,they just aim for the staking benefit freely.

Many coins provide more than 20% annual staking returns,even some other yield 100%+ return,like Livepeer or LPT token,make no sense,just attracted nodes .

Another thing we can expect are scaling solutions and games on Ethereum, cryptokitties,God Unchained,and so on,these games most likely to bring ETH to mass adoption.

Why pointing only on Ethereum when all the coins suffer the same fate, are you only holding Ethereum right now that you expect to much on Ethereum, it's not Ethereum it's the whole market that suffers and Ethereum s just one of the casualties if you think that the market is still in bear trend, we are now in a better position than what we have 6 or 7 months ago, if you cannot be patient then better sell all your Eth.

You can easily see the ranking at coinmarketcap and its obvious that ETH is on the top of all altcoins. The bull season is about to begin, my prediction with the price of ETH at the end of 2019 is around $500, its possible because bitcoin will also start to pump same with other good altcoins, don’t feel disappointed.

Why have disappointed with ethereum now, with lower price is not become ethereum will be down always, give you opportunity to buy and invest your money with ethereum to get higher price later, do miss your chance to get profit with ethereum investment, take chance for investing with higher amount because you will get higher profit.

Being disappointed at its current price is just showing that they dont believe in ethereum.
I believe that etheteum will pump soon just like how its price pump before, this is the same thing as before where its price drop up to $100+ then suddenly increase together with bitcoin and other altcoin, no one actually expected that it will reach its all time high price. Its price even surpassed $1k before on year 2018. History will probably repeat itself, lets just wait for that to happen.

Actually what matters now is if we believe that ETH will recover, if we believe then its price now should not be a problem though it looks disappointing.
ETH has proven many times that it's not gonna die despite of the dump it experience in the past, and the fact that ETH is still more than 100 times from its ICO price, this would not easily make big investors to leave ETH since its still one of the most profitable coins in the market.

Ethereum price token once went above that value and if they really push more of effort, they could get genuine projects that will attract the trust of investors once again like ieo is doing and make the value of Ethereum high. The reason why Ethereum is not moving up in price is just because many ico seems dead to a lot of investors, and if you where the one too, you will abstain from ico project at this period as majority of them are not really encouraging most of the existing and intending investors to put in more money into them.

I have tons of pending altcoins that were once worth about $10k, which they even worth less than $90 because they ended up being a scam from Ethereum platform. Let us wait and see how Ethereum 2.0 will perform next year.

in my opinion not only ethereum almost all altcoin has decreased. maybe this decline in altcoin occurs because the bitcoin market dominates the cryptocurrency market. and I think the fall of ethereum is also due to the large number of ICO scams. in the past when many successful ICO projects were pumping ETH prices because most ICOs used the ETH platform. and now ICO is no longer trusted and makes eth values go down. but I'm still optimistic about ethereum. maybe 2020 will be a good year for cryptocurrency hopefully.

When ETH pumped up to $200 last January, I was thinking that it was the start of an even bigger pump. I cannot blame ETH for its bad price movement this year because the market overall is doing worse. And ETH is still the second so its does perform better against the other altcoins.

If the disappointment you mean is the ethereum price drop in the market, maybe you will continue to be disappointed every time the price drops. And you will feel happy when the price goes up. So it goes on.
On the other hand, I think in terms of technological development, ethereum is already very good and does not make me disappointed. Moreover, we will look forward to ethereum 2.0 which will be released soon.

The price cycle really disappointed most of those who bought when the market is on it's peak but to investors who follow the developments of this
coin it won't be affected since there's ongoing updates that they are expecting, it can bring everything up again and bring profits to holders that will

I honestly expected ETH to go up alongside BTC as well, based on how it performed in previous BTC bull markets.

But what I think most investors, including myself didn't take into factor is the fact that institutional investors are much more likely to invest in BTC due to the relative perceived stability that it carries, as well as having more liquidity, as opposed to the smaller market coins including ETH (which has a large market cap, but small relative to BTC).

And this bull run can be viewed as fueled mainly by institutional investors. Besides, the ICO hype dying down didn't help.

I do not think that institutional investors prefer investing in bitcoin. they simply enter this market through bitcoin, and then management campaigns distribute capital between other coins in order to comply with risk management

You should know that cryptocurrency is volatile, it's price is often down but there will be an increase in price for sure.
We expect too much for ethereum, which gives us disappointment when its price is too low for us to consider. But this should not be considered as a disappointment, it is an opportunity that we should grab.

Don't be disappointed as ETH will not just die and disappear, just think that the market is struggling and we need to be patient at this point.
it's not the first time that we see some struggle from ETH, even in the past, it dump so hard but look what it did, it rise and reach a very high price, its just too unfortunate that it happen in just a very short period of time which now we are paying for the price dump through a heavy correction.

How come that this time is ethereum still disappointing you? Ethereum is still doing great and maybe alt season is not yet to come but I think we can't blame ethereum about that. I very disappointed with ethereum I think can back minimum to $700 but today ethereum still lower with $180, I have hold now about 30 eth but I think eth can be back to higher price, just have waiting very long time to see again ethereum in higher. We have been disappointed because we are expecting same history to repeat itself. This is crypto and it will be hard if we will expect too much as we all know market can be manipulated all the time and price is volatile. But still I prefer to invest in Ethereum rather than anything else.

Exactly, we are expecting too much that the price last bull run will still the same, we all know that Ethereum has been very helpful in the crypto world, and this is one of the commonly used by almost all projects, so the price will still rise, but we don't know if it will climb again to $1k as the price of it has been steadily stable which is good for me rather than pumping and dumping too much.

For long term investment, I think Ethereum is worthy of being one of the choice altcoins. if you are disappointed with ethereum then try to find other coin references to invest or daily trade on other coins. maybe at this time ethereum doesn't have much profit when it is invested so the best way is to find another crypto and not just focus on one coin. because if you only focus on one coin you will miss a lot of opportunities on other coins

It will continue to disappoint your even after the ETH 2.0 this January. It may appear like you earning when you stake your coins but still it doesn't solve the scalability of it. ETH would have to make a transition to web3 which might just be replacing solidity with a more advance language - I'm not sure about this too but the point is that the transition will once again cause the massive bear market for it.

Just by regulating ERC platform will limit scam projects but I don't think this will resolve the issue as they might use some other platform to scam and I believe only the proper knowledge and research is the key to avoid scams. As far as the value of Ethereum is concerned we all know that it will bounce back anytime just like it did couple of months ago after one of it's worst price drop.

When prices fall and continue to fall it will be very disappointing for those of us who hold the coin and sometimes we think of selling it but if we sell it we will get a loss so many people prefer to keep holding it because they do not want what is done to be in vain . I understand what is technical analysis and ethereum do not disappoint me because I know what I'm doing. I understand the market cycle and I can earn profit from swing of ethereum.

Whatever happens ethereum still has the potential to continue to rise, now we can not only see the ethereum which is worrying because many of the coins there experience the same thing if we only see it difficult to rise higher, even bitcoin continues to get corrections that look very difficult to continue to increase. Ethereum is still the top altcoin for most investor, we can see the drop for its pricr but the same thing gies for other altcoins.
Ethereum has the potential and capability to increase its price when bull run come. We should not expect it to happen overnight because it will take more time before it recovers from bearish market.

It is your own fault why you lose your money while holding ethereum. It is better if you have stop loss strategy where you can minimize your losses. It is not good to hold coins in a long time if its trend is in bearish.

Its not directly related to ETH price though. I think its more about the technology which there isn't yet a solution for the scalability of its network. We have seen it with Cryptokitties and with that investors are looking into the future of which is imminent to happen. I think we are now into the WEB3 projects where we solve all these with the new technology that ETH can't provide.

Although BTC is down about 60% from its ATH, as well. It just looks better because it's not an insane 90%+ loss like many alts. Still, we can't pretend the entire crypto market, including BTC, hasn't been disappointing.

There is a chance that ETH will develop into something that could become usable large scale in the future. I think the main issue it had so far was the over-hyped product combined with a cult like following. Theres also quite a few flaws in the tech itself that simply does not allow it to scale so all eyes are on the sidechains to try make ETH work.
The idea of using the main chain for all the dapps just doesnt work (at least with the tech ETH is using). The backlog it currently has (with almost minimal use of the chain) is plenty of proof.

It's declining now yet Im taking this time to buy more, I'd been a long holder of ETH even after it's ath, been using some for trading but plans to acquire more this past few days , as Ethereum 2.0 is still in plan , this might be the only few days that we will see ETH declining this low. Very weird market we're in now and strange that ETH isn't used more, but one way to frame it is that we're being given more time to accumulate than what we thought we'd have.  Part of me hopes this depressed market lasts another half year so I can accumulate more. 

We are disappointed because in reality we have been expecting too much, that we wanted to gain profit just like the last bull run, wherein there are lots of people who changed their life for holding Ethereum, crypto is really manipulative so we should not expect too much from it, small profit will do.

Too many companies and people are trusting Ethereum. A part of me was disappointed with Vitalik's unnecessary slightly remarks on Ethereum but the kid is an honest guy. Ethereum is second to bitcoin and will remain there for long if not overtaking the latter. Ethereum's potential is very promising. I don't think the disappointment is from ethereum ,the market is generally bearish and as such most coins went down and also looking at bitcoin dominance it also affected most altcoin, but the good thing about ethereum is it's use case and acceptance, it acceptance will trigger the value in the near future. The disappointment relies on ourselves, because of the bull run happened last 2017 we've expected too much especially in Ethereum, so what happened is that when our expectation did not happen, we've been disappointed and came to a point that we don't want to invest anymore, we should not act that way, learn to accept and move on.

Ethereum is a good coin but do not trade when the bear markets are occurring. I'm a trend follower so I do not trade a coin that occurring a bear market. I want to protect my profit so it is better to trade in a bull market.

I was just like you 5 years ago when I joined cryptos. I was impatient and I was looking for a way to get rich quick ...it didn't happen, that's why now I'm always patient with my investments and I always make my own researches before spending money.

Well the fact that this market is in the downtrend for the last 2 years, so I think regular trading is not suitable at this time. We need to learn margin trading to earn money by the short order when the market fall down, it's very effective in this time.

I still use eth for fund movement and not necessarily for holding my asset, the price has not been very impressive, BTC has been on the show and maintains its dominance. If I have $1M, I will put it on bitcoin, it's more real than any present and future coin.

Either you believe in Eth or you don't, and actively trading it will probably lose you money.  If on the other hand you've got some money to invest for the long term, and some patience, you can hold Eth for the next couple of years until it does reach its all time high again.  Then you can thank me for the solid advice.

Because there is no ICO anymore, the current trend of crowd sale now is the IEO.
Let's just say that In 2017 and below, it's the year for the ICO but 2018 onward are the year for IEO and BNB would prove that because Binance is one of the popular exchange in the market and BNB had its all time high this year.

That effect is just because the sudden surge in Bitcoin's price. People had expected it to rise further, not for it to become stagnant after a few thousand or hundred. The fact remains that Ethereum still rose above the average it had for quite a while. When the joint PoW and PoS system gets introduced in January of 2020, we may see another slight rise. However, when the little quirks are ironed out and the full PoS transition is complete. I hope that we will see double the price of what it has now. Though, it will probably be in the last quarter of 2020 at the earliest IMO.

Well i understand your sentiment if you lose profits from ethereum, on my side it's a different story because i managed to buy ethereum at dips then sell it at high then take my profit. The market is volatile we can't blame ethereum alone, we just need to get in on the right time.
