Title: KopiemTu 3.0 - ethash & equihash - NVIDIA USB linux distro
Post by: jk_14 on March 18, 2014, 02:19:25 PM
Simple, Solid & Stable
64-bit Lubuntu based Linux for Nvidia 1000 series cards (370.28 driver)

https://i.imgur.com/rfx55JWs.png (https://i.imgur.com/rfx55JW.png)

Most Important Statement:
If you are not familiar with linux - still there is no problem at all, because Midnight Commander
( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midnight_Commander ) is installed for you.
Become root via "sudo su - ", then type: mc <Enter>
And edit configuration files in /etc/kopiemtu via F4. And reboot! ('two-minutes" setup, real Plug&Play ;) )

New v3.0 !!! (Long Term Support) ! (7-Zip archive 3.5 GB):

http://mbl.cash/kopiemtu-3.0.zip (http://mbl.cash/kopiemtu-3.0.zip)

MD5sum kopiemtu-3.0.img: 0ce492dbb6342fea06e2831bfe41f895

New in v3.0: Cuda 8.0 + 370.28 driver with O/C
"Added the ability to over- and under-clock certain GeForce GPUs in the GeForce GTX 1000 series and later"
http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/107408/en-us (http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/107408/en-us)

and:
- compact size (should fit on all 16GB pendrives)
- Lubuntu 16.04.1 based
- temperature and fan ranges on Master rig
- many small improvements

Pendrive creation (16GB is necessary) - you can use for example:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/
(or 'dd' command in Linux for using all your USB ports simultaneously)

If you have DHCP server in your network and headless PC - use any ssh client to connect (check your router logs for new assigned IP):
login: root
password: live

From GUI - just open LXTerminal and type:
sudo su -

Quick Guide:

Configuration files: /etc/kopiemtu/
Set your pools, workers, passwords properly here - and whole hashrate mines for you only and forever.
(do not edit miner.conf - edit other files and use 'mine switch' )

mine switch|start|stop|status
monitor start|stop|status

(read: /root/README.txt)

Master rig only commands:

mmit - master mine start
mmip - master mine stop
mmis - master mine status
mmih - master mine switch

mmot - master monitor start
mmop - master monitor stop
mmos - master monitor status

To convert normal rig into master rig, edit /root/.master.conf, and:
mv /root/.master.conf /root/master.conf

Then reboot and read: /root/README.txt :)

If anyone reads this I recommend Unetbootin as opposed to using Win32Writer - http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net

I guess it's just personal preference but I have never had any issues with Unetbootin and it works across Linux/Mac/Windows.

I use it on Debian Wheezy x64.

I don't suppose anybody wants to help a newbie at all do they?

I'm trying to install this to a 16GB USB Drive, and I know that the file itself is 7.22GB. However, is there any way of installing Kopiemtu onto the USB and having the other 7GB remaining as general storage, so I can still use half of the drive, as a normal pendrive?

When you write the image, it write all the sectors in image file to the device.
So I pretty sure that if you write the 7GB image on the 16GB device, you will still have only 7GB available when Kopiemtu is running because the GB remaining are not used.

Thanks for the new release! I´m will trying it soon.

Are you considering working with the PiMP developers? They are working though a CUDA PiMP.

Hi,

I have a new KopiemTu version for new Pascal GPUs, let say v2.1:

Code:
root@kopiemtu:~# nvcc -V | grep tools
Cuda compilation tools, release 8.0, V8.0.26
root@kopiemtu:~# dmesg | grep NVRM
[   13.892384] NVRM: loading NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module  367.27  Thu Jun  9 18:53:27 PDT 2016
root@kopiemtu:~#

It is still simple, solid and stable, but quite "dirty"... (some time-saving "shortcuts", no recommended upgrades, etc)
I should polish it yet, but it's quite time consuming process, especially if I would decide to upgrade it thoroughly
- and now I'm quite busy (and should be next week yet) with my own Pascal GPU roll-out :)

The question is, if should I release it, actually - if you are able to pay some small amount for it
(just to increase my motivation to keep it clean and "ccminers updated" )
not such expensive like 39$ EthOS per rig, but let say 200 VTC, and per user
(that would be more less in cost of one more PCIe riser, not that much comparing to whole rig's price)

any feedback would be nice, then :)

Hi,

I have a new KopiemTu version for new Pascal GPUs, let say v2.1:

It seems we are going to 3.0 version, Lubuntu 16.04.1 based, for 16GB pendrive

I even bougth dedicated SSD drive for easy play with new version
In fact it's quite a good idea to have master rig with at least 16GB SATA SSD drive
and other rigs - pendrive only version, as cheaper and less cabling

I know that might look impossible - but new KopiemTu is even easier to run than before :)
Several days yet...

hey jk_14,
I was active a long time ago on your litcointalk thread (different username) - and like to leave some "thank you" in here!
You were one of the reasons I dived deep into linux and I really did not regret it. Today I use "regular" linux installations (on SSD) on my rigs, but would be more than curious to take a closer look into your new kopiemtu version.

I mined on your vtc & bbr adresses from time to time while using your kopiemtu,
but like to send you a little additional donation. please post your BTC (or BBR) address on this thread.

take care!

Thanks! and I'm glad because of your linux improvement (that was one of reasons KopiemTu was born ;) )

I have almost finished new distro v3.0

but even ETH is rather for AMD - I planned to include it there.
before - as Ethereum newbie - I successfully compiled an ethminer under old distro, with old Cuda toolkit

But now, under new Ubuntu 16.04.1 (i.e. Lubuntu), with new Cuda 8.0 - I have some issues yet.
Is there anybody, who has compiled ethminer with these two above?

EDIT:
bug fixing... ;)

First post updated, only file image is missing yet:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=520998

Uploading again... less than hour yet, so in meantime, some hints:

In fact new version is configured for GTX 1000 series, but if you want to run some older cards, even 750 Ti
- go into /opt/miners and in all ccminer's directories change a symbolic link ccminer to ccminer_all, which supports compute 5.0 up to 6.2

Code:
rm ccminer
ln -s ccminer_all ccminer

If you have some fast pendrive - you can upgrade system packages, but:
option "dist-upgrade" - will require additional tasks for proper operation

It's really nice to have master rig on SSD drive, and rest of rigs may work on 16GB pendrives (cheaper, and no SATA / power cabling)

For that purpose - create first KopiemTu pendrive, even under Windows
and when you see the first KopiemTu 3.0 screen with "boot:" prompt, type:
rescue <Enter>

then verify with partx, if your SSD is /dev/sda, and KopiemTu pendrive is /dev/sdb - like below:

Code:
root@sysresccd /root % partx /dev/sdb
NR    START      END  SECTORS  SIZE NAME UUID
 1     2048   821247   819200  400M
 2   821248 25397247 24576000 11.7G
 3 25397248 29493247  4096000    2G
root@sysresccd /root %
root@sysresccd /root % dd if=/dev/sdb of=/dev/sda bs=1M count=14401

- then you can easily add fourth partition on your SSD, with fdisk command.

Rescue system is quite usefull yet for:

1. utilising all USB ports for making many KopiemTu pendrives simultaneously:

Code:
dd if=kopiemtu-3.0.img of=/dev/sdb bs=1M count=14401 &
dd if=kopiemtu-3.0.img of=/dev/sdc bs=1M count=14401 &
dd if=kopiemtu-3.0.img of=/dev/sdd bs=1M count=14401 &
...

2. repair KopiemTu filesystems if broken (in case of lack of power, etc)

Code:
fsck -y /dev/sda1
fsck -y /dev/sda2
fsck -y /dev/sda3

Done!

most important, if you don't know that under KopiemTu - switching 8 rigs to new pool takes only 20 seconds:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=167229.msg7716030#msg7716030

- that is old thread, now use:

Code:
mmip; mmih; mmit

and of course you can still control single rig from master command line, by:

Code:
mmip w12; mmih w12; mmit w12

P.S.
while waiting for your v3.0 feedback, let me include the older one:

"The windows users have to try it for themself, before the really know what its like to use a easy to use and stable linux rig with failover support.
There are so many reasons for KopiemTu and you do really good work in supporting the users.

The main reason I tried kopiemtu some time ago was - i ran out of windows lic's :D and every AMD user were so happy about their BAMT.
After taking some time to get into kopiemtu, it became the only way I could think of operating a few rigs without having to look all the time
- if there is some problem with the pool or the system.  It is really no work to set them up and absolute stable... fire and forget.

Before I wasted lot of hashes with not having failover support using windows. Now I ran those rigs for weeks without any reboot.
I could go for a vacation and see if everything is fine with your http monitor (via vpn connect)... and switch the algos with via ssh."

WOW!  WHAT a GOOD NEWS!
JK_14 you are a genius!

I will tested it tonight.

I have completely modded your Kopiemtu 2.0, Driver 376.44, CUDA 8, ccminer (TPRUVOT and SP) and GENOIL'S ethminer (117 works, 119 does not compile no matter what i do ) 3x GTX 1070 working very well on AM1 low power motherboards.

but of course it is a mod (a very VERY jerry rigged mod  ;D hehe), not the real thing  :)

what OS is this one based on? Lubuntu 16.04 ?, i will tested it tonight and try to include ethminer (never compiled ethminer on 16.04)

Hi, Induktor! :)

Excuse me for that v3.0 ninja launch - that's because I discovered I love GTX 1070 as much as 750Ti long time ago ;)
Great that you have some experiences with ethminer - I'm sure together we will solve that small issue, under current Lubuntu 16.04.1 and CUDA 8.

and I have the proof that not me, but you are genius, in fact

hey jk!
I gave your new KT3.0 a try on a single testrig - it is a fine progress.
I like the new mine & monitor status. nice.

Some thoughts:
  • using the "nvidia-smi -pl" function within the mining conf. I use this often to get a good balance for hash & wattage.
  • showing the wattage in the http status monitor too.
  • cuda8 is not faster in general. an additional cuda7.5 would not hurt.
  • compute_61 is slower in every case I know. I would suggest to focus on 52 for the pascal cards.
  • using yiimp as a LBRY donation pool and directly supporting epsylon3 with this choice  :)
  • I see ETH is on you todo list?

one thought came up here.
the OP of this thread is reading more complicated than the use of kopiemtu is.
I think it would be a nice idea to make some little "howto video" to show how fast the the first rig could be online and mining.

ps. send you a little donation. cheers!

I think it would be a nice idea to make some little "howto video" to show how fast the the first rig could be online and mining.

ps. send you a little donation. cheers!

Hi, PVmining!

I hope you have tested the current image, that what I provided you earlier is before last bug fixing.

- there is /root/powerlimit.conf file, where you can set required power level, then it's used during 'mine start'
because I have observed spontaneous power increase after days of working - I set /etc/crond.hourly/powerlimit, which set that back to requested level, just for sure
- so showing the wattage in the http status monitor is not so necessary due to this?
- I didn't check if double Cuda toolkits is complex issue
- because compute_52 is faster on GTX 10x0 than compute_61 - default symbolic link point to the ccminer_52, not ccminer_61, so it's done
- I will think about it - (after 1.8.2. my donation was made, https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=770064.msg16337641#msg16337641 )
- ETH is in TODO, not super urgent while there are NVidia coins more profitable still

yes, such Youtube howto would be nice... :)
in fact, every first rig is instantly online and mining (...only pointed to my Coinotron worker ;) )

Thank you for your generous donation, 0.0333 btc

I was asking for that:

It was the latest version. I saw your bugfix info in this thread and redownloaded the image before installing on the stick.
I will look into your powerlimit.conf, interesting concept.

- I didn't check if double Cuda toolkits is complex issue
Its not. Meanwhile I use three different cuda versions on my rigs at the same time.
Just point the miner on the right version before compiling.
maybe it resolves you ETH miner problem on an easy way.

Code:
~cuda
cuda-6.5
cuda-7.5
cuda-8.0

- I will think about it - - (after 1.8.2. my donation was made,...)
To get me right. I don't meant to send all the hash for epsylon3. Just the poolfee as little form of donation.

Hello
I am working on the necessary mods for ethereum on your kopiemtu 3.0 and also for my display  ;D

OK, it doesn't work, i installed a lot of libraries that in my notes are marked as necessary but still does not compile and the error is weird.

I even tried to move my entire cpp-ethereum folder (compiled and working in kopiemtu 2.0 MOD #4) and run it, also does not work.

If i try to run the compiled version i had in kopiemtu 2.0 in kopiemtu 3.0 i get:
Code:
Oct 16 18:06:46 kopiemtu root: /opt/miners/cpp-ethereum/build/ethminer/ethminer: symbol lookup error: /opt/miners/cpp-ethereum/build/libstratum/libethstratum.so: undefined symbol: _ZN4Json6Reader5parseERKSsRNS_5ValueEb

If i try to compile genoil's 1.1.7 cpp-ethereum in kopiemtu 3.0 i get:
Code:
[62%] Building NVCC (Device) object libethash-cuda/CMakeFiles/ethash-cuda.dir/ethash-cuda_generated_ethash_cuda_miner_kernel.cu.o
nvcc fatal    :  redefinition of argument 'std'
CMake Error at ethash-cuda_generated_ethash_cuda_miner_kernel.cu.o.cmake:207 (message):
       Error generating
       /opt/miners/cpp-ethereum/build/libethash-cuda/CMakeFiles/ethash-cuda.dir//./ethash-cuda_generated_ethash_cuda_miner_kernel.cu.o

any ideas?
I will start digging on that particular error.

Also I found out that we have different CUDA 8 builds!!!!! that could be the issue as well.

Working: kopiemtu 2.0 MOD #4, CUDA version: 8.0, V8.0.26    - Driver: 367.44
Not working: kopiemtu 3.0 orig,  CUDA version: 8.0, V8.0.44    - Driver: 370.28

I don't think it is a driver issue, but it could be that something changed on the CUDA build.

Compiling ethminer update:

it seems that cmake fucks something up setting up std c++11 twice unnecessarily for some reason, the error in question is on libethash-cuda/CMakeFiles/ethash-cuda.dir/stuff  ;D

editing flags.make there and removing the --std=c++11 creates all sorts of problems.

but using VERBOSE=1 during make -j4 i can see that NVCC is right, std c++11 is defined TWICE, removing the second one, fucks something up, but i have no idea how to remove the first one.

this is the line with the error (it may not be the only one, but until we/I/whoever!  ;D fix this we probably won't see the next ones.
Code:
/opt/miners/cpp-ethereum/build/libethash-cuda/CMakeFiles/ethash-cuda.dir//ethash-cuda_generated_ethash_cuda_miner_kernel.cu.o.NVCC-depend -ccbin /usr/bin/cc -m64 --std c++11 -DETH_JSONRPC -DETH_READLINE -DETH_ETHASHCUDA -DETH_STRATUM -DETH_CURL -DETH_FRONTIER -DETH_TRUE -Xcompiler ,\"-Wall\",\"-Wno-unknown-pragmas\",\"-Wextra\",\"-Wno-error=parentheses\",\"-pedantic\",\"-DSHAREDLIB\",\"-fPIC\",\"-fuse-ld=gold\",\"-O3\",\"-DNDEBUG\",\"-DETH_RELEASE\" --std=c++11 --disable-warnings --ptxas-options=-v -use_fast_math -lineinfo -gencode arch=compute_61,code=sm_61 -O3 -DNVCC -I/usr/local/cuda/include -I/opt/miners/cpp-ethereum/build/gen -I/opt/miners/cpp-ethereum/build -I/opt/miners/cpp-ethereum/build/libethash-cuda -I/usr/local/cuda/include -I/opt/miners/cpp-ethereum/libethash-cuda/..
nvcc fatal   : redefinition of argument 'std'
CMake Error at ethash-cuda_generated_ethash_cuda_miner_kernel.cu.o.cmake:207 (message):
  Error generating
  /opt/miners/cpp-ethereum/build/libethash-cuda/CMakeFiles/ethash-cuda.dir//./ethash-cuda_generated_ethash_cuda_miner_kernel.cu.o

any clues where can i look?, i will keep digging cmake to see if i can nailed it, because i really don't want to change cuda 8 and drivers, is pain and takes forever and may not even be the problem, could be very easily a cmake/c++/gcc version issue, dunno.

--== EDIT: ==--
UPDATE: in CMakeCache.txt the line that says:
Code:
//Propagate C/CXX_FLAGS and friends to the host compiler via -Xcompile
CUDA_PROPAGATE_HOST_FLAGS:BOOL=ON

I changed to OFF and now I compile until 95% without errors when i get:
Code:
[95%]
/usr/bin/ld.gold: error: ../libethash-cuda/libetash-cuda.a(ethash-cuda_generated_ethash_cuda_miner_kernel.cu.o): requires unsupported dynamic relloc 11; recompile with -fPIC

I am lost... i have no fucking idea how to recompile with -fPIC, this has to be something related with a cmake config issue due to different version, will try to go back with cmake, make, gcc and g++ to the older version i use in kopiemtu 2.0 (if it is possible, since kopiemtu 2.0 is 14.04 and this is 16.04, we'll see.

--== EDIT 2 ==--

FUCK YEAH, it was the Goddamn cmake muufucka.
downgrade to version 3.2.2 and it........  :( almost....... compile.

instructions to downgrade:
first get rid of cmake, apt-get remove cmake

then:
cd
wget http://www.cmake.org/files/v3.2/cmake-3.2.2-Linux-x86_64.tar.gz
tar -zxvf cmake-3.2.2-Linux-x86_64.tar.gz

go to the app dir and move the files in bin to /usr/bin
and move the folder cmake-3.2 to /usr/share/cmake-3.2 so cmake will not complain.

now remove and recreate build in epp-ethereum and cmake -DCOMPUTE=61 -DBUNDLE=cudaminer ..
it reaches 100% and then explodes with a lot of JSON errors:

sample:
Code:
../livedevcore/livdecore.so: error: undefined reference to 'Json::Value::operator[] (std::string const&) '
../livedevcore/livdecore.so: error: undefined reference to 'Json::FastWriter::write (Json::Value const&) '
i got like 50 of those lines, all json related.
any ideas?
at this point, i am tired, will wait until someone throws me a bone  ;D and will give it a try later.
I need a beer, or two, or three.....

Working: kopiemtu 2.0 MOD #4, CUDA version: 8.0, V8.0.26    - Driver: 367.44
Not working: kopiemtu 3.0 orig,  CUDA version: 8.0, V8.0.44    - Driver: 370.28

V8.0.26 is RC (release candidate)
V8.0.44 is official Cuda 8.0

btw: If you want newer 367 driver, in V8.0.44 driver 367.46 is included,
but I decided to use 370.28 due to O/C in description

as far as I remember:

Ubuntu 14.04 with Cuda 8 RC was OK for ethminer,
the problem was with 16.04.1 and Cuda 8 RC (and Cuda 8 official)

my shortcut was to move compiled ethminer under 14.04 and include missing libraries
you can check the result if you run ethminer in v3.0 - it's not working still, one of libraries has still unresolved symbols
(by mistake I overrided my flash usb with old distro and compiled ethminer - it prevent me a bit solving it further...)

I installed gcc 4.9:

Code:
root@kopiemtu:~# update-alternatives --config gcc
There are 2 choices for the alternative gcc (providing /usr/bin/gcc).

  Selection    Path              Priority   Status
------------------------------------------------------------
  0            /usr/bin/gcc-5     50        auto mode
* 1            /usr/bin/gcc-4.9   49        manual mode
  2            /usr/bin/gcc-5     50        manual mode

but if I good remember, I have checked also gcc-4.8 - with no results...

I'm thinking about recompiling ethminer again under old distro, and trying to make some next tricks
but even if it works, that would be still a shortcut.

Hi Jk_14 good to hear from you!
please re-read my previous post because i edited it, and added a lot of new info.
I almost compile it, by downgrade version of cmake to 3.2.2
now i have some json errors at the end of the compile, but we are close! ;D

about moving the version yeah i did that too and didn't worked, same as you describe it, unresolved symbols.

but we are close to compiling it.

i am thinking maybe this issue is because i had to install the newer libjsonrpccpp-dev
because the older libjson-rpc-cpp-dev cannot be found with apt in 16.04 what do you think?.

can you try what i did so far see if you get same results or go further?

Title: Re: [NEW] KopiemTu 3.0 - first NVIDIA USB linux distro is back :)
Post by: induktor on October 16, 2016, 09:08:46 PM
one thing i forgot to explain!

another issue is that OpenCL fails to compile because it cannot find CL/cl.hpp , even if you put it there, it won't see it. (which i did of course!)

so edit CMakeLists.txt
the line that says:

Code:
elseif (BUNDLE STREQUAL "cudaminer")
       set (D_ETHASHCL ON)

set it to OFF

one less thing to worry about .... no OpenCL allowed here  ;D

--== EDIT ==--

Reading a LOT on the compiling errors about JSON, i found out that it is not a compiling error, the code IS compiling but it is not linking, so i am looking for references to unexisting libraries regarding json, but i am in the dark here, i have no idea where these libraries are.

too bad you flash image get fucked up, can you use the one you give to us? or don't have it anymore?, if that is the case i can make it available, but my upload speed (256Kbps) is a pain and may take like 24 hours to upload.

I have a separate high speed usb flash drive for kopiemtu 3 , from the compiemtu 2 mod #4 which is mining right now in ETH in all my rigs.

on top of that, once i have an operational mining rig, i power it off and do an image file with dd or win32diskimage of every single miner flash drive.
may look excessive but saves a lot of headaches when there is trouble, specially in my area where power outages are very frequent, and flash drives don't like it  ;D

What kind of problem is with the image?

I made two bug fixing in the fly, not significant, so I didn't change it to e.g. 3.0a,
(just change typo:
"rotate3 " to
"rotate 3" in /etc/logrotate.conf )

but my new image is working...
I'm just re-downloading current image to see if I have any problems.

P.S.
I have found some small bug, but easy to remove: after first boot monitor process should be stopped for 1-2 minutes...

Its algo dependent. lbry, skein and blake for example are pretty well on cuda8 with the right miner (tpruvot's release).
But some older algos or older miners could perform bad.

Because of the monitor. I noticed this too. The webinterface was not shown after first start.
After restart the monitor a few timews while switching some algos it worked.

cheers!

WAIT, I think I used only the PPAs, don't do all of it, I should have specified what I tried.
I know I added the PPA for cmake, unsure about the other steps.
I also added the PPAs for ethereum/ethereum, /ethereum-dev, /ethereum-qt, and/or /cpp-ethereum, YMMV, I have it working on Linux Mint (I like the easy installs of codecs, call me lazy), something or other.
I will check to see what PPAs I have added and see if I can replicate it, primarily I want to do this on an install using Ubuntu Server (alternative iso ("mini.iso)) I prefer to install using the netywork installer, Everything is as current that way though installer is slow.
Yadda yadda, I will look to see what I can find for steps via replicating what I can

The major fear here is infinite rolling reboots. But I am also just a hardware guy, more of a hobbyist so I am learning best I can.

Not new to Ubuntu, just busy as are we all and I get where I can.

there is no driver described on Nvidia site as supporting 1050ti yet,
eventually - I will simply release version 3.0a, if current driver won't work with 1050

I remember 27MH/s on my 1070 at ethminer under old distro.
I made some tests with Claymore 7.2 miner.

eth hashrate is 26MH/s there, and that is unchanged regardless of powerlimit, even with 85W

eth+sia -> 26MH/s + 255MH/s using powerlimit 130W

Hi!
I got 26 MH in ETH using kopiemtu 2.0 mod #4 @ 90W tdp (the lowest TDP possible on the 1070)

haven't had the time to try again to make work kopiemtu 3.0 , will do this weekend.

i used PPA but not all of the oh_pi (thanks for the data btw  ;D ).

jk_14 about automatic restart, i dunno if that is a good idea, i have completely disabled monitor on kopiemtu 2.0 mod #4 because does not work, and i don't have a freeze, or miner unload in weeks!, the only weird thing i got is that some of the cards forget the TPL setting and start using more power, reconfiguring TPL again (nvidia-smi -pl xx) solves it on the fly   ;D but still weird!, and it is always just one of the cards, and it happens after more than a week of operation, but again, more than a week!.

now i remotely reboot the rigs once a week and i have 0 problems.
GTX 1070, love at first sight!, best nvidia cards ever!.

K, so what I remember appending to .bashrc

"export PATH=/usr/local/cuda-8.0/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/games:/usr/local/games
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/cuda-8.0/lib64:
export PATH=/usr/local/cuda/bin:$PATH"

Dunno if this helps

Think I added these, then ran cmake etc

also:
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/xorg-edgers/ppa/ubuntu xenial main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/xorg-edgers/ppa/ubuntu xenial main
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/xorg-edgers/ppa/ubuntu xenial main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/george-edison55/cmake-3.x/ubuntu xenial main

plus the ppa's for ethereum (qt, dev)

Hi!
I got 26 MH in ETH using kopiemtu 2.0 mod #4 @ 90W tdp (the lowest TDP possible on the 1070)

haven't had the time to try again to make work kopiemtu 3.0 , will do this weekend.

I observed the same process of using more power, so under old distro you can also create that two files:

Code:
root@kopiemtu:~# cat powerlimit.conf
130
root@kopiemtu:~# cat /etc/cron.hourly/powerlimit
#!/bin/sh

DPL=`head -1 /root/powerlimit.conf`

/usr/bin/nvidia-smi -pl $DPL >/dev/null 2>&1

root@kopiemtu:~# chmod 755 /etc/cron.hourly/powerlimit
root@kopiemtu:~#

and that will adjust the power automatically.

I'm not sure if situation with AMD is different now, but I remember how 6x750Ti rig was maintenance-free versus 3x Radeon 7950 rig.
100 days periods without a system restart were common for 750Ti. Fortunately, 1070 is equally good.

I don't know what happened, but mine boots straight to terminal and I can't get the GUI to work .

That's OK, GUI is not started by default, while is not necessary for mining,
and you may even not notice that, if you have headless rig

but if you have monitor connected, just log into text console (root/live) and type:

Code:
service lightdm start

or

Code:
systemctl enable lightdm.service
service lightdm start

the first will start GUI one time, the second sequence will start and activate it permanently

Code:
root@kopiemtu:~# cat README.txt

One-time graphical interface (as root):
service lightdm start

Permanent graphical interface (as root):
systemctl enable lightdm.service

------------
Quick setup:
------------

cd /etc/kopiemtu; ls -l
nano lbry.conf
...
mine switch|start|stop|status
monitor start|stop|status

tail -f /var/log/syslog
http://your_rig_IP/

=================================
Master setup, on SINGLE RIG ONLY!
=================================

nano /root/.master.conf
mv /root/.master.conf /root/master.conf
init 6

ssh-keygen -q -P "" -f /root/.ssh/id_rsa
scp /root/.ssh/id_rsa.pub localhost:/root/.ssh/authorized_keys
scp /root/.ssh/id_rsa.pub w12:/root/.ssh/authorized_keys
scp /root/.ssh/id_rsa.pub w21:/root/.ssh/authorized_keys
scp /root/.ssh/id_rsa.pub w22:/root/.ssh/authorized_keys
...
<until your last rig>

Verify your configuration:

mm uptime
mm "nvidia-smi | grep %"
mmnv

mmis
mmos

mmit
mmip
mmih

mmot
mmip

mm ssh

P.S.
of course if you want to play with OC, then GUI should be activated anyway
even for headless rig, with teamviewer - for proper nvidia-settings operation. e.g.:

yes
the process is quite easy:

Code:

one hint for quick changing power limit for all rigs (from master rig):

Code:
mm "echo 130 > /root/powerlimit.conf"

that above - will adjust power at full hour, so if you don't want to wait, type yet:

Code:
mm "nvidia-smi -pl 130"

and verify if it works:

Code:
root@kopiemtu:~# mmnv
master:

I made some research for best 16GB pendrive (at least for master rig, instead of SSD)
The irrevocable winner is:

"The SanDisk Extreme achieved a 4K random write speed of 2.1 MB/s which was over three times faster than the best of the rest"
http://usb.userbenchmark.com/SanDisk-Extreme-USB-30-16GB/Rating/1301

(available for me at ~12$ in discount offer)

I moved my master rig from some cheap pendrive to SanDisk Extreme above, and it works like a charm
for 12$ almost the same comfort like SSD :)

Hello JK_14

YOU ARE FAST!, you beat me to it  ;D
i have, just now, working zcash in kopiemtu 2.0 mod 4 (only the one with 10% devfee, because the opencl silentarmy version destroy my tiny CPUs)

closed source with 10% dev fee gives me 46 Sol/s on one GTX 1070 at 90W TPL (30% CPU usage)
silentarmy with the input.cl separate file, gives me 30 Sol/s on one GTX 1070 at 90W TPL  (100% CPU usage)

what are your speeds? can you comment please?.

had to update python to version 3.5.2 to make it work (because 14.04, sure not necessary for kopiemtu 3.0)

but silentarmy version is too cpu hungry for my little AMD AM1 5350 quadcore low power CPU's  :D

https://s11.postimg.org/6snhoc10j/zcminer_mining.jpg (https://postimg.org/image/4o34n8zdr/)upload a picture (https://postimage.org/)

That's my test rig (only one GPU).

2x1070 1x970 2x950 , ~90sol/s non OC , dualcore

comparing same setup with:
: win7 + latest drivers , nheqminer_v0.4b , sligtly OC , ~115-120 sol/s
: win10 + latest drivers , nheqminer_v0.4b , sligly OC , ~110-115 sol/s

I always use Supermicro X9SCM-F - due to IPMI.

Code:
cd /root; mine stop; monitor stop

wget http://mbl.cash/claymore.tgz
tar -xPf claymore.tgz

/opt/miners/claymore-7.3/ethdcrminer64 -epool coinotron.com:3344 -ewal jk_14.w011 -epsw pass -esm 2 -mode 1 -allpools 1

in single mode - there is no hashrate impact if you decrease power limit to 85W:

Code:
nvidia-smi -pl 85
echo 85 > /root/powerlimit.conf

P.S. monitoring support for zcash and ethereum - soon...

hey JK_14
do you really have the miner under the table?, I can imagine the cards 90 degrees appart from each other and the mother and psu bolted to the top plate of the table upside down :)

I have to go back to make work ethereum on it, sorry, ZEC had keep me busy lately hehe.

i looked at that motherboard, the 9 version is not longer available (at least here) there is a 10 version but it costs 350 dollars!! ZOMG!, way too much for my blood, the remote management feature is fantastic but i prefer to keep 300 dollars and use what i use now AM1M-S2H Gigabyte, 50 dollars hehe. still, awesome motherboard, supermicro always makes top notch shit, too bad the price though

haha, yes - under the table - that's really cheap, 5 dollars "frame" :)
to satisfy your curiosity - I will send you the whole image, soon ;)

85$: X9SCM-F (http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUPERMICRO-X9SCM-F-LGA-1155-Intel-C204-Micro-ATX-Intel-Xeon-E3-Motherboard-/331878473473?hash=item4d457f9f01:g:zJ4AAOSwQupXW0dV)

there is no TTIP yet, so I buy used items in EU, at similar price
btw: that mobo was able to pull 3x 750Ti on plain risers without molex, with no problems

screen -r

I don't see any impact if power limit is set to lowest:
nvidia-smi -pl 75

Yes, there is, you can start it by single command below,
GUI is not started by default, while is not necessary for mining,
and you may even not notice that, if you have headless rig

Code:
service lightdm start

or

Code:
systemctl enable lightdm.service
service lightdm start

the first will start GUI one time, the second sequence will start and activate it permanently

All that information is in very first lines of /root/README.txt

Code:
root@kopiemtu:~# cat README.txt

One-time graphical interface (as root):
service lightdm start

Permanent graphical interface (as root):
systemctl enable lightdm.service

------------
Quick setup:
------------

cd /etc/kopiemtu; ls -l
nano lbry.conf
...
mine switch|start|stop|status
monitor start|stop|status

tail -f /var/log/syslog
http://your_rig_IP/

=================================
Master setup, on SINGLE RIG ONLY!

if I good remember, that is due to vBIOS version,
On old vBIOS I had minimum 85W.

on very recent I have:
root@kopiemtu:~# nvidia-smi -pl 70
Provided power limit 70.00 W is not a valid power limit which should be between 75.00 W and 225.00 W for GPU 0000:01:00.0
Terminating early due to previous errors.

and default is not 170, but 195W

Nov 14 18:45:49 kopiemtu mine[1630]: Power limit for GPU 0000:01:00.0 was set to 75.00 W from 195.00 W.
Nov 14 18:45:49 kopiemtu mine[1630]: Power limit for GPU 0000:02:00.0 was set to 75.00 W from 195.00 W.

Hi!
I try to make that work on kopiemtu 2 mod 4, and no go, i got the ensure_future crap, i already have the newest version of python but the program still doesn't see it :( any ideas?

I will switch to kopiemtu 3 but when i have ethereum working (still have some OpenCL errors when i compile).

how do you set pl to 75 ? the minimum of my GTX 1070 is 90

if I good remember, that is due to vBIOS version,
On old vBIOS I had minimum 85W.

on very recent I have:
root@kopiemtu:~# nvidia-smi -pl 70
Provided power limit 70.00 W is not a valid power limit which should be between 75.00 W and 225.00 W for GPU 0000:01:00.0
Terminating early due to previous errors.

and default is not 170, but 195W

Nov 14 18:45:49 kopiemtu mine[1630]: Power limit for GPU 0000:01:00.0 was set to 75.00 W from 195.00 W.
Nov 14 18:45:49 kopiemtu mine[1630]: Power limit for GPU 0000:02:00.0 was set to 75.00 W from 195.00 W.

P.S. you can use this for Ethereum:

That means I need to flash the cards???  :( that's cary when they don't have bios switch like the AMD had.

Update!, thanks to _javi_ here i was able to compile and run krnlx flavor of nheqminer

he says that we can get 92 sol/s per GTX 1070, i'm only gettin 71 Sol/s but not bad!!!!

most of the compiling issues has to do with the GCC version (4.9.4 or newer required)
and some touches in CMakeCache and CMakeLists but it works very well.

but i read that there are guys with RX480 getting 120 sol/s geez!, that makes our powerful-misused GTX 1070 not recommended for zcash for now right?
what do you think?

how much are you getting with you version at 90W (or lower TDP? (non-OC of course))

I have average 76 sol/s @75W
(I picked factory OC'ed 1070 for linux - as I did with 750Ti before)

hi, would you plz include Optiminer or guide us on a how-to-do so? thanks!

https://github.com/Optiminer/OptiminerZcash

I wonder why Optiminer is not even mentioned on btctalk forums..  ???

from README.md...

"Supports:
- Linux 64bit only.
- AMD GCN cards only.

Expected speed (stock card):
- R9 Nano: 185S/s
- R9 290: 140S/s
- RX 470: 130S/s

Windows support may be added in a future version.

No NVIDIA support planned at the moment."

wow! nice!, i have never heard of that card before, it doesn't exists here in my region.
soooo... if that card has bios switch then the feature should be present on others, i will investigate the PCB of the gigabyte g1  ;D thanks!

back in the AMD Litecoin era, i screw so much with the AMD bioses, i bricked my cards easily 200 times hehe trying to find the sweet spot, which i did, but i cannot do the same with nvidia cards unless i have a bios switch ;)

Thanks!, i really thought that claymore was able to squeeze more MH in ETH, but it seems that it is not the case.

Almost the same speed i get with the open source genoil's miner (25.7 MH at 90W TPL (P2)), i will try to make it work in kopiemtu 3 as soon as i have time :)

Hi jk_14
did you try on kopiemtu 3 the last build of krnlx (silentarmy) for zcash? they advertised 91 sols per gtx 1070, i am getting 88 sol/s but GPU utilization is 89% so it is probably because i have a weak processor (AM1).
i compiled on one of the GTX 970 Rigs that has a big-ass CPU, but it does not hash (always 0 sol/s so it is probably not made for older cards than 10xx )

Simple, Solid & Stable
64-bit Lubuntu based Linux for Nvidia 1000 series cards (370.28 driver)

https://i.imgur.com/rfx55JWs.png (https://i.imgur.com/rfx55JW.png)

Most Important Statement:
If you are not familiar with linux - still there is no problem at all, because Midnight Commander
( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midnight_Commander ) is installed for you.
Become root via "sudo su - ", then type: mc <Enter>
And edit configuration files in /etc/kopiemtu via F4. And reboot! ('two-minutes" setup, real Plug&Play ;) )

New v3.0 !!! (Long Term Support) ! (7-Zip archive 3.5 GB):

http://mbl.cash/kopiemtu-3.0.zip (http://mbl.cash/kopiemtu-3.0.zip)

MD5sum kopiemtu-3.0.img: 0ce492dbb6342fea06e2831bfe41f895

New in v3.0: Cuda 8.0 + 370.28 driver with O/C
"Added the ability to over- and under-clock certain GeForce GPUs in the GeForce GTX 1000 series and later"
http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/107408/en-us (http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/107408/en-us)

and:
- compact size (should fit on all 16GB pendrives)
- Lubuntu 16.04.1 based
- temperature and fan ranges on Master rig
- many small improvements

Pendrive creation (16GB is necessary) - you can use for example:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/win32diskimager/
(or 'dd' command in Linux for using all your USB ports simultaneously)

If you have DHCP server in your network and headless PC - use any ssh client to connect (check your router logs for new assigned IP):
login: root
password: live

From GUI - just open LXTerminal and type:
sudo su -

Quick Guide:

Configuration files: /etc/kopiemtu/
Set your pools, workers, passwords properly here - and whole hashrate mines for you only and forever.
(do not edit miner.conf - edit other files and use 'mine switch' )

mine switch|start|stop|status
monitor start|stop|status

(read: /root/README.txt)

Master rig only commands:

mmit - master mine start
mmip - master mine stop
mmis - master mine status
mmih - master mine switch

mmot - master monitor start
mmop - master monitor stop
mmos - master monitor status

To convert normal rig into master rig, edit /root/.master.conf, and:
mv /root/.master.conf /root/master.conf

Then reboot and read: /root/README.txt :)

6-pack beer confirmed! :) THANKS!!!

current master web view (with temp and fan) - for me is single point of verifyng if everything goes right,
actually hard to imagine for me now how to work without such time-saving thing

hint1: if you would like to add some new rig in-the-fly:
1. add in /root/master.conf
2. add in /etc/hosts
3. scp /root/.ssh/id_rsa.pub w??:/root/.ssh/authorized_keys
4. mkdir /var/www/192.168.x.x

hint2: if you goes from higher total hashrate to lower (on master rig only)
1. monitor stop
2. rm /var/www/global.bin
3. monitor start

P.S.
I observe that start/stop mechanism in new 16.04 Ubuntu is not 100% reliable, mainly for stopping monitor process
mm "ps -ef | grep moni"

if some monitor process is not killed by mmop, I'm using big gun:
mm "killall monitor"
and eventually
mm /opt/kopiemtu/monitor

hint3:
it seems the best (i.e. least confusing) practice is to have only two mainly used configurations, e.g.:

Code:
root@kopiemtu:/etc/kopiemtu# ls -lt
total 16
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Nov 19 12:52 templates
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root  109 Nov 19 12:51 miner.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root  109 Nov 19 12:51 eth.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root  109 Nov 19 09:39 etc.conf
root@kopiemtu:/etc/kopiemtu#

and to switch whole farm imediately from one configuration to another - by single command 'mmih' from master rig
(here: switching between ETH and ETC)

Code:
mmip; mmih; mmit

but in case of ad-hoc necessity - one-time mining event (eg. for LBRY) can be made by such combination from master rig:

Code:
mmip
mm "cp /etc/kopiemtu/templates/lbry.conf /etc/kopiemtu/miner.conf"

Thaks for the hints. For now , everything is working fine, except overclocking the gpu's.
Atm 5 rig is running on kopiemtu 3.0 and tomorrow will add another 3.

Nice!

P.S. some starting point for OC:
http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?px=MTY1OTM&page=news_item

hint3:
it seems the best (i.e. least confusing) practice is to have only two mainly used configurations, e.g.:

Code:
root@kopiemtu:/etc/kopiemtu# ls -lt
total 16
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Nov 19 12:52 templates

Code:
mmip
mm "cp /etc/kopiemtu/templates/lbry.conf /etc/kopiemtu/miner.conf"
mmit

Next 'mmih' - will override miner.conf and situation will change back into the starting point.

Nice! Maybe some direct command to switch coin eg: mine switch zcash or mine switch lbry etc. Also from master rig:  mmis zcash etc... ?

actually, I didn't want to insert any particular coin into a scrypt, but only algos
(coins may be short term, algos are rather longer term):

Code:
root@kopiemtu:~# cat /opt/kopiemtu/miner.sh

TEST=`cat /etc/kopiemtu/miner.conf | grep algo | wc -l`

if [ $TEST -eq 1 ]
then

        URL=`cat /etc/kopiemtu/miner.conf | grep url | cut -d'"' -f4`
        USER=`cat /etc/kopiemtu/miner.conf | grep user | cut -d'"' -f4`
        PASS=`cat /etc/kopiemtu/miner.conf | grep pass | cut -d'"' -f4`
        ALGO=`cat /etc/kopiemtu/miner.conf | grep algo | cut -d'"' -f4`
        TEST=`cat /etc/kopiemtu/miner.conf | grep syslog | cut -d':' -f2`

        if [ "$TEST" = " true" ]
        then
                SYSLOG=`echo --syslog`
        fi

        if [ "$ALGO" = "lbry" ]
        then
                LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/cuda/lib64 /opt/miners/ccminer-1.8.2-tpruvot/ccminer -c /etc/kopiemtu/miner.conf

        elif [ "$ALGO" = "lyra2v2" ]
        then
                LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/cuda/lib64 /opt/miners/ccminer-vert-1.5.80.4-vert/ccminer -c /etc/kopiemtu/miner.conf

        elif [ "$ALGO" = "equihash" ]
        then
                LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/cuda/lib64 /opt/miners/silentarmy/ccminer --use 0,1,2,3 --instances=1 -c $URL -u $USER -p $PASS $SYSLOG

        elif [ "$ALGO" = "ethash" ]
        then
                LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/cuda/lib64 /opt/miners/claymore-7.3/ccminer -epool $URL -ewal $USER -epsw $PASS -esm 2 -mode 1 -allpools 1 -logfile /var/log/syslog

        else
                #default ccminer
                LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/cuda/lib64 /opt/miners/ccminer-vert-1.5.80.1-vert/ccminer -c /etc/kopiemtu/miner.conf
        fi

fi

that is old habit from BAMT, where in /etc/BAMT configuration file for cgminer was placed.
My idea was to save the time and swap more than one previously prepared configuration by "mine switch" (and filename is where the coin name goes)

P.S. I'm just testing an auto-switching mode - two hours of operation as planned until now :)

right,
2 days ago it was 10%-20% more profitable than ethash, even with nicehash

it seems powering some other pool with it - would be a bit time consuming, but doable... ;)

huh, i didn't check often enough productivity of zec, so far the nicehash miner is the only one with decent speed, i haven't tested the others lately but they were very very far from the nicehash one...
right now it seems that both are low, i was trying to test the claymore ethminer to see if it is better but couldn't make it work with miningpoolhub which is where i mine most of the time :(
i will start trying new miner versions for zec , eth and lbc to see if there was some improvement that may be worth it.

Hi jk_14

did you try EWBF zcash cudaminer on kopiemtu?

if you did, did you get some output from it? because I mine fine but there is no output at all

nothing with screen -r, and nothing on syslog, i call it from /opt/kopiemtu/miner.sh with.

mine --parameters 2>&1 | logger

works fantastic with all the other miners that does not output directly to syslog, but i get nothing with EWBF miner, I only get some output parameters are wrong of if it cannot connect for some reason it will be visible from syslog otherwise i get no output.

i posted on EWBF thread here, but there is so much spam on that thread that it is very unlikely that the dev will see it hehe.
maybe you solved it  ;D

Yes, I did it, EWBF out-of-the box with monitoring support is here:

Code:
cd /root; mine stop; monitor stop

wget http://mbl.cash/ewbf.tgz
tar -xPf ewbf.tgz
mine switch
mine start

also I would like to inform you all, that my other project MobileCash is in very interesting phase.
It seems the first real case while crypcryptocurrency is available to "Average Joe" with single-click, for "free",
more details here:

Thank you for spreading the word

Can someone point me to the repo for this?  Or build instructions to build from scratch?

If this is an open source project, I will contribute to it (beyond the six beers, I'll help with code, etc.)

But if it's closed source, I'm going to try and get going with ubuntu instead.

Primary reason for running linux is it is open source and thus more vetted.

I have been runing JK_14´s Kopiemtu distro for years, and it's rock solid.

you can build your own if you are too paranoid, the scripts are open, the programs he use includes the source codes, so you can see
how he did it.

i can vouch for him and his work, but of course you don't know me either ;D i understand! (there are not a lot of people more paranoid than I am)

all my miners runs on the previous kopiemtu version (2.0) mainly because it is heavily modified for my needs (automation, power metering, lcd display control, etc)

EWBF miner is closed source, there is a ZCASH opensource solver opened recently by nicehash but does not have the miner part AFAIK, for what I've tested, EWBF closed source still is the best way to mine, and yes, i prefer to compile myself as well. (reason why i use genoil's for ethereum instead of claymore  ;D , nah besides genoil's ETH miner works very well! and i already customized enough for my needs hehe)

Indkt

Thanks, that's appreciated, and I'm sure this seems ungrateful or I may sound like a jerk.  That's not my intention.  Hosting on Github or Gitlab lets you get pull requests, and lets people look at the development of the software over time.  I think it would benefit you by getting more people helping you. And it makes it easier to do releases and the like. (People can file issues and all that, a lot easier than this mega thread.)

Anyway, I have downloaded it.  I needed to get going this weekend so I've done that, and for my next rig I will use Kopiemtu and learn how it works.

All--

I'm going to build two more rigs.  I'm not satisfied with the motherboards I have now (they were leftover from another project).

So, since these will be NVIDIA rigs, I would like to get recommendations from all of you.

- What motherboards are you using with KopiemTu
- Have you run 6 cards on your motherboard? (and if so, what did you need to change to enable it)
- Any feedback or suggestions for what I should buy.

I'm thinking of either spending real money and getting a Z270 (more PCIe lanes, even though I can't seem to make use of them) and thus maybe more future proof. Or going cheap and getting cheaper motherboards-- especially if I can only get 4 GPUs per board.

Thanks in advance!

(I would search but unfortunately board search doesn't work for me for some reason- takes me to empty google page.)

Hi jk_14 :)

I am working on trying to control fan on the rigs due to shitty GPU fan speed curve on the bios.

most cards runs at a ridiculous low fan speed to enforce planned obsolescence "prevent noise" or so they say, the result is, the card is hot as fuck, and the fan runs at 20 or 25% speed at the most, plain stupid.

this is what i got so far:

activate cool-bits 28:
Code:
service lightdm stop
nvidia-xconfig -a --cool-bits=28 --allow-empty-initial-configuration
reboot

now we can use this to control the fan

Code:
nvidia-settings -a '[gpu:0]/GPUFanControlState=1'

nvidia-settings -a '[fan:0]/GPUTargetFanSpeed=80'
this will set fan speed to a fixed 80% PWM.

remember that once GPUFanControlState is set to 1, if you don't set GPUTargetFanSpeed the fan will remain off (0% ) even if the card is burning up!!! so remember to execute both at the same time or before the miner starts.

now this works fantastically well when i have the monitor connected, but if i don't  connect the monitor i get this error (this is where i'm stuck)

Code:
/usr/bin/nvidia-settings -a '[gpu:0]/GPUFanControlState=1'
No protocol specified

** (nvidia-settings:2680): WARNING **: Could not open X display
No protocol specified

ERROR: The control display is undefined; please run `/usr/bin/nvidia-settings --help` for usage
       information.

I tried to export DISPLAY=:0 but no success.
any ideas?
i don't know what to do, if the monitor is plugged in i can control it fine, but if not, i have that error.
so far i tested it on only one GPU, dunno what will happens when i try to set all the cards but only one connected to the monitor.

will i need HDMI dummy plugs? those are impossible to find here :(

any ideas greatly appreciated  ;D
cheers
indkt.

UPDATE on the fan control business  ;D

I managed to force load X even without a monitor connected.

procedure:

this is to explain how to force EDID on XORG.conf so X will run even if you don't have a display attached to it.

we use nvidia-settings from X, go to the panel configuration and top right (sometimes off screen) are the button: Acquire EDID

save the file with the name of our monitor and exit.

now we feed it into the xconfig:

Code:
nvidia-xconfig --custom-edid="GPU-0.HDMI-0:/home/live/Desktop/LG-MonitorEDID.bin"

this will write the new custom edid setting into the xorg.conf (in /etc/X11/xorg.conf)

NOTE: you need to specify properly the GPU number and port type, HDMI-0 or DFS-0 (for DVI) and the correct port number, check that on the nvidia-settings from X screen, that also means that you need one line like that for every GPU you have replacing GPU-0 for GPU-1 and so on.

 now
Code:
sync && reboot

once it started you can see with nvidia-smi that /usr/bin/X is running!

Ok that's what i have so far, now i tried to run the:
nvidia-settings -a '[gpu:0]/GPUFanControlState=1'
nvidia-settings -a '[fan:0]/GPUTargetFanSpeed=60'

from /etc/rc.local, without sucess, i need to run it in a way that it will be seen from the X display, i have no idea how to do that (yet)
i'll post as soon as i have that, if anyone reading this knows how, please post!  :)

NOTE that even if i have the monitor attached, if I ssh into the box from another computer, and try to run nvidia-settings it fails too!!, so there has to be a way to execute commands via SSH that can be seen by the OS as from X, i tried ssh -XY host but doesn't work either.

UPDATE2 manual control fan

I found it, it seems that you need permissions for connecting to the display, and actually the display is like a tcp socket  :o so you need to specifiy it.

(i know i'm clueless, but i can get rid of it by researching which is what i am doing hehe)

this works (as user live):
Code:
nvidia-settings -c :0 -a [gpu:0]/GPUFanControlState=1 -a [fan:0]/GPUTargetFanSpeed=60

but if i try to run it as root, it doesn't.
it seems that you cannot connect to the X display as root.
i have seen references that configuring xhost + will allows you to do that, now... where THE HELL will i put xhost + command on?? WTF?
i have no idea.

i'll keep diggin'it and post here.
but at least i can control the fan now from SSH (have to login as live though) but i wanted to automate it, and i can't until i found the way to run the command as root.

EDIT: progress!
as root:
edit /etc/profile and add this at the botom.

Code:
export XAUTHORITY=/home/live/.Xauthority

now i can run those commands as root via ssh, without the monitor connected ;D ;D

however, if i put them on rc.local, they don't work, damn!, what am i missing?

Hi, Induktor!

very thorough investigation, thanks a lot :)

btw: for you card is hot at what temperature?

I have now 65-70C and fan in 40-50% with bios settings, so not too slow it seems, and not too fast neither (for longer life of fans)

Title: Re: KopiemTu 3.0 - ethash & equihash - NVIDIA USB linux distro

Hi jk_14

evga sc operates at 72 C (with 25C ambient) and the fan is at 28 %, shittiest temperature curve i have ever seen.

even worst than gigabyte, so far the best cooling solution is the asus strix.

Now i am at 55% fan, manual speed and card is at 56C, huge difference!
if i go up to 60% fan, temp lowers even more, to 53C but at 60% the fan starts to make some noise
(nothing unbearable but noticeable, at 55% does not).

i think 70C is insane, it will kill the GPU in less than a year, keep in mind it's not he gpu but the mem and even more, the vrm/mosfets that usually are 20C above the temp of the gpu core, very close to the mosfet limit (max junction temp).

you know me, i babysit my cards  ;D ;D i am happy if they are below 60C, anything above it, it triggers my OCD rig temp!  ;D

btw: still haven't found a way to automate it, no matter where i put it, it will not auto execute, i have to manually ssh into the box, and run the script i made for it
Code:
./speedset 55

 :)
cheers

Hi jk_14,

I'm trying to run KopiemTu with 2 GTX 1070 FE. Unfortunately every few minutes it switches algo and after few more minutes it restarts.
Also in web interface there is "2 GPUs not OK".
Also tried with only 1 GPU. Same behaviour.
I've tried to lower the power in /root/powerlimit.conf. Same behaviour.

I've noticed that /tmp/failover and /tmp/done files do appear.

Killing monitor seems to stop the algo switching and rebooting.

Any idea how to solve this?

Thanks,
Lastbit

probably your ccminer produce output, what monitor is not able to properly discover hashrates from,

just: monitor stop

(and remove files in /tmp like above: failover done reboot
it definitely should correct that issue, while killing monitor never stop the mining...)

P.S. in fact, there is so many new syntax in different ccminer clones, that monitor should be rewritten long time ago (instead of patching it)
I will do it some day - as it is not comfortable for me, too :)

The idea of Kopiemtu is to NOT use a GUI, GUI requires resources, and adds unnecessary instability.
command line is the way to go for maximum efficiency.

so, login as root on the box, and do ipconfig | grep addr

copy that address (192.168.0.22 for example, yours would be different)

now get PUTTY (it's a free remote SSH tool, to connect to linux boxes from windows machines)

use putty to connect to the box from your windows machine, entering the ip address, user & pass (user always as root)

also get winscp, it's like a file copy utility, you get one screen is windows the other screen is the remote linux box, useful to edit configuration files from the linux box from the windows machine, it would make your life A LOT EASIER if you are not a linux person :)

it's also free, type of connection would be scp.

ok, back to business

you need to create a file in /etc/kopiemtu with the extension .conf that would represent every coin you are going to make.

i recommend look at the files that are already there, and modify them with your data (pool, wallet addr, coin, etc) following the format in the example.

then from the command line mine stop
mine switch several times until you get the file with the name of the one you have edited

mine start
that will start the miner automagically

note , you'll need to have the proper miner for your coin if the coin is not supported obviously will not work until you install, compile and configure the miner in the box,so better to mine a coin that it's already supported.

ok, you got enough to get your hands dirty, try all that and post back.

i got 2 question !!!

1: i installed the ewbf miner , and start it on 2 of my rigs and the 2 have worked , than i try to rechange to lbry and one of the rig doenst seem to start ( i reboot couple time and still the same ) on top of its says 6 gpu not OK. i really dont know why i made nothing wrong i think !!! is there a command to make them work ???

while i was writting the post the miner has started to mine ( maybe i needed to wait a little bit more !!! ) but the 6 GPU NOT OK still appear but i have hashrate !!! do you know why Kopiem say their not OK ???http://hpics.li/bab18e6

2: i tryed to place KopiemTu on my gigabyte 1060 rig on gigabyte mobo that was working good on windows but the rig dont want to boot its always stopping at ''R 4 line'' . Did this happens to someone ?? i tryed on hdd and ssd multiple time and still the same, tryed to change uefi and legacy too and still the same !!!!http://hpics.li/23ab800

Hi
don't worry about the GPU NOT OK in this specific case es because of the hash threshold, jk_14 programmed a threshold, if the hashing is below a certain level, it will detect as the GPU is fucked up and report as "not ok" i will take a look at the code later, but you have hash, the temperatures indicates that all the gpus are working so, don't worry, it's just the hash detection threshold. (or the miner has different output (which is a pain to program because every miner dev nowadays code the output the way they like, instead of use a standard hehe)

about the second question:

use usb flash drive
disable UEFI  (set to legacy)
disable secure boot   (se to non-windows OS)
disable USB 3.0
disable SATA/AHCI interfase completely
connect flash drive on a usb 2.0 (even if the flash drive is 3.0, doesn't matter)
don't use kingston flash drives, they SUCK, use sandisk / adata, they seems to be the best.
don't use 16x risers, use only 1x Risers with power.

try that and post back :)
cheers

And i have an other question too !!! Why when im mining LBRY on suprnova its most of the time working first time !!!
than i installed EWBF and try to mine zcash on suprnova too and its not working !! some time its automaticly change for the zclassic default setting ( i didnt change them ) or its seems too work but hashrate is too high ( like 6500 sols for 6x1070gtx near imposible ) and when its like this on suprnova pool my workers are not active !!!

is someone know what im doing wrong ??? and what should i do if i want to mine on a pool that dont need password and dont need account ?? where i need to place my payout adresss !!!

and is it possible to get skype , google hangout , slack or anything that i can ask for help in real time ??? if it have a pro here that can help me figure out all my question and learn me all details i need to know on KopiemTu ( i can pay if needed ) , i really like the soft but it surely need some guide or something to help noob like me .

Hi
If you have trouble with kopiemtu switching coins, stop the monitor (service monitor stop i think it is )

this also will stop some other functionality like restarting the miner if it stops working (which almost never happens anyway, i have it disabled) but it would prevent the coin switching which is a pain when it does not detect the hashrate like in your case (gpu not ok thing).

for help on how to configure on a specific pool, go to the pool, and look for help section, 90% of the pools have examples on how to configure every miner.

in the case of zcash , since the miner is very different from ccminer, it is very likely that you will need to modify by hand miner.sh in /opt/kopiemtu and add a line with the specific command of the miner.

if this is the case, analyze if it worth the trouble, unless you have good understanding of linux, it would be a pain to do so.

i have heavily modified kopiemtu 2.0 (to the extent that i no longer be able to use kopiemtu 3.0 because most of my crap does not compile on it hehe) so i cannot give you specific , clear commands to execute, sorry :(

if the zcash miner is installed in kopiemtu 3.0 , then it's easier, just look on the pool help so you can know how to configure it, also every pool has it's thread here in bitcointalk.
sorry i cannot help you more on this

[EDIT] look 1 page back, there is a post of the dev on how to install EWBF miner on kopiemtu 3.0, i forgot about that :)

it is mate ...

i never used it ( or any other ) for the simple fact that is uses a debian based dostro for the base os ...

im a rhel user - and fedora is the bleeding edge that we use for thefarm ... it would be interesting to see how this fares - and whether our miner can 'fit' into this distro as well ... though it wouldnt be a difficult thing to do - we dont like messing too much with 'standard' distros like this ..

it seems a job well done in any case - and id like to see how it performs ... as thefarm rebuild is is not an easy one - and having restart it with pascal gpus - this would be a nice addition if it works the way we want it ...

kudos to the dev - from what we have seen so far ...

would like to work towards a fedora / centos - rhel based distro though for us ...

when should we continue our chat over what we started to talk about a few months ago mate? ...

Ive been tweaking some builds of this for a bit now. I've got it working on multiple rigs. One of my rigs, though, only shows 3 GPUs in the monitor, but still outputs 6 GPU of hash to the pool. mine status and nvidia-smi show all 6 working. I can't get it to show all 6 in the monitor window. This is a clone of one I had for another rig and that one shows all 6. Any advice?

Hi,

let me share some newer miners I'm using now:
https://www.sendspace.com/file/oaprpp

Code:
root@kopiemtu:/tmp# tar -tf opt_miners.tgz
ewbf-0.3.3b/
ewbf-0.3.3b/ccminer
ccminer-2.0-tpruvot/
ccminer-2.0-tpruvot/ccminer
ccminer-alexis/
ccminer-alexis/ccminer
ccminer-1.8.4-tpruvot/
ccminer-1.8.4-tpruvot/ccminer
root@kopiemtu:/tmp#

and refreshed miner.sh and monitor:
https://www.sendspace.com/file/4466bj

sorry for my long inactivity..
btw, nVidia + KopiemTu allows for 2 weeks of holiday without any hashrate impact for GPU farm :)

I have got nice amount of Verts by mining recently - thanks a lot! :)

what flash drive are you using? what capacity? 16GB is recommended.

avoid kingston and verbatim crap, sandisk and adata seems to be the best ones for this.

hey guys. I'm back from the dead after almost a year.  Yup, the BTC and pinkcoin pump brought me back :) Luckily I found some old coins lying around in backed up wallets :)

Looking to build just one rig to get started again.  Still have an old Biostar H81 Hifi board that's still working great as my main computer.  Might turn it into a rig and move to a laptop now.

Do the old cards (950, 960, 970, 980) still work with the new kopiemtu?  Any suggestions on what to mine to hold long-term?

Mining n00b here. I've owned BTC for couple years, and I bought ETH back when it was less than $12. I've purchased several GTX 1070s and am working on configuring my first rig. Planning to try out KopiemTu. If it works out (I'm also a Linux n00b), beer money coming your way jk_14!

However, quick question; can I use it on a GEForce 8400GS?

Its an old piece of Hardware, which is lying around and wanted to check it out.  And would like to run it on a VM.

Thanks,

Woooow hashbrown9000 !!! nice to have you back! it's been a while!  :)

you can use the kopiemtu 2.0 (my mod#3 was made for the 970 AFAIR), not sure about the kopiemtu 3, but it should work fine with 970 and 980, i don't think they will work with the other low end cards.

still i would recommend, that, as soon as you can, sell them, and get 1060, 1070 and 1080s because the power efficiency is incredible.

good to have you back!
hope you're ok and making big bucks  ;D

Hello again!  Nobody has answered me yet ... can I change the drivers?
I have not tried yet but  I think if Kopiem  it's derived from Lubuntu (Ubuntu) with that drivers ,  can be upgraded.
But I was interested if i  make these changes, monitors from GUI still work? ... and if it's possible to change the miner from ccminer to claymore ... and the monitor still works ...

KopiemTu is based on nvidia drivers and NVIDIA utils.
It do not support AMD ... even if you install the drivers, I think that the monitoring will not work because it's not plugged to amd tools to list gpu and manage them.

Probably JK can confirm ?

There are a few things with the opening post - first, the links to the litecoin forum no longer work as it was archived... and the download link doesn't work either.

I'd host it myself until jk_14 comes back, but it's a 3Gig file (zipped) - if anyone knows of a good way to share, let me know.

About to see if I can get it to work now, if so, there'll be six beers in it.

I know jk_14 uses a mobi cash link to make money on the downloads, hence reluctance to share too widely, but I've put it up on my Google Drive for now temporarily.  If you could move it to mega storage crysx that'd be great - I'll delete at the end of the weekend.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-Ozcr0rrJnTNlFHdW84ck14bUk/view?usp=sharing

Zip just contains an image file, once you have the img file if you burn it to a pendrive you can see the code - don't think there's a git project!

Struggling to find out how to overclock my cards with the system, also how to use equihash or ethash miners (neo, lbry & lyra2rev2 working plug & play but have to run zec separately & ethminer doesn't want to work - can see which files to edit but not sure what to put in them).

If anyone has links to instructions I'd appreciate it - got as far as getting the coolbit setting right, then I can't do anymore!

ill do this in the next few days ( its weekend here ) - as ive also too much on my plate right this second ... but monday tuesday will be good ...

oc is not something we do - we work of stock clocks for all our cards ... but depending on the card you are using ( highend maxwell or upper range pascal ) - and also depending on the os ( we are NOT debian based os people - rhel only ) then nvidia-smi should be able to do it ...

under rhel / fedora 25 x64 - nvidia-smi controls pretty much all the functions on the gigabyte aorus 1080ti extreme cards ... this includes powerlimit as well as gpuclock and memclock ... have a mess around with it ... i have NO idea whether it will work with kopiemtu - as its an ubuntu based distro from memory ... but it 'should' work on the higher end cards ...

ill download now - then come back in a day or so to assign it - and publish a download link ...

i find it a LOT easier to git the full distro - then recode from there ... but it IS big - so i dunno how github feel about that ...

tanx for your help mate ...

tanx ...

ill do this in the next few days ( its weekend here ) - as ive also too much on my plate right this second ... but monday tuesday will be good ...

oc is not something we do - we work of stock clocks for all our cards ... but depending on the card you are using ( highend maxwell or upper range pascal ) - and also depending on the os ( we are NOT debian based os people - rhel only ) then nvidia-smi should be able to do it ...

under rhel / fedora 25 x64 - nvidia-smi controls pretty much all the functions on the gigabyte aorus 1080ti extreme cards ... this includes powerlimit as well as gpuclock and memclock ... have a mess around with it ... i have NO idea whether it will work with kopiemtu - as its an ubuntu based distro from memory ... but it 'should' work on the higher end cards ...

ill download now - then come back in a day or so to assign it - and publish a download link ...

i find it a LOT easier to git the full distro - then recode from there ... but it IS big - so i dunno how github feel about that ...

tanx for your help mate ...

#crysx

No worries, I'll leave it up til midweek!  I get an error about "can't connect to Mir" when I'm trying to change the values on the cards - if anything I want to underclock them instead of overclocking them, as Kopiemtu is overworking the cards with the default settings & I'm getting constant reboots.  I've changed the powerlimit, but it isn't enough.

Gone back to Windows for now, but can definitely see the advantage of a Linux based system.  Will also revisit this next weekend!

Appreciate your help!

Had an issue I cannot figure out how to resolve.  Running 3.0 with a 750ti mining rig.  I did the thing listed here to remove the ccminer_all and point it at ccminer to support the older cards.  Works great for most coins except for two.

If I try to mine Monero or Decred I get an error when I start miners that the power limit of 150W is too high.  (I agree 150w is way too high an upper limit for 750ti cards.)

Can I change this in the .conf files?  Or do I have to go elsewhere?  I think the error message said it expects something between 30-50w or something in that range.

I spent a lot of time searching these forums but I am not able to figure out how to change this.  Thanks in advance.

Quixote

PS  all the various miners listed in the tips that point to mbl.cash domains have died it seems.  Anyone know an alternate host site?  Was just trying to get my rig setup to be able to mine a handful of altcoins I think could maybe have legs so I can build up a small stake of each.

depends on what miner this 'older' miner is ...

decred and monero were not algos supported in the earlier versions of ccminer ...

750ti cards averaged 40W  - so trying to push 150W is fruitless ...

Sorry maybe I asked in unclear way, let me try again.  Its ccminer on kopiemtu 3.0.  Whatever version comes with that.

I just need to tell it to set the lower powerlimit of 35-40w instead of what seems to be defaulting to 150w in the miner.  Is there any way to change that limit lower when I launch ccminer was my question so that it won't just fail to even start the mining process.  Or if ccminer will not support mining those coins on a 750ti rig then so be it.

So ccminer defaults are trying to set power limit of 150w, I want to find out how to change that and set a lower limit for this rig since the cards are nowhere near that power usage and there is some safeguard that only allows the 30-50w range for those cards.

the nvidia-smi does that - but wont work on the 750ti ( only higher end cards ) ...

ccminer WILL set parameters ( ccminer-tpruvot that is ) such as -plimit 50 ( for a power limit of 50w ) BUT only if the nvidia drivers allow such commands ... and again - i think with the 750ti doesnt ... we use to have 52 of these cards - and none of them could be manipulated that way via command line ...

i have no idea whether the ccminer that is in kopiemtu is actually ccminer-tpruvot - or the others ( ccminer-klaust - ccminer-spmod - ccminer-alexis78 - etc ) ...

if you can compile the one you want - you can just rename it to the 'default' kopiemtu miner name ( ccminer in this case i guess ) - and see if it will work with it ...

Hi senne,

Have you downloaded the image file, so you want to copy it to a ssd drive?

asked the same question few times, no one provided. i even ready to host it on my site but still no one provide me link (even in private message). so question is still - provide me link and then I will provide link to 4gb file on my own server with 100mbit internet connetion.

I found it here:
ftp://188.227.23.100/safe/Install/_Mining/kopiemtu-3.0.zip

Seems like it's hosted on someone's home machine since the download was pretty slow.
No virus alerts on my machine, but your mileage may vary.

wow thanks for the link and as promised I've hosted file on my own server, this is the link http://shashilx.com/kopiemtu-3.0.zip
file was verified with md5 - the sum is equal the one in main post so I think it's clean image but you can (or must) by yourself.

Yes. Dead at the moment.  However, this should also work:

Note that I'm considering KopiemTu abandonware. If the copyright holder wants me to take it down, please message me.

as you can see i'm already downed it and hosted on my own server

It's a shame that this iso is abandonware, as the functionality for starting and stopping mining plus switching algos and coins was so simple.

I am maintaining the Kopiemtu 2.0, and working on a new version based on lubuntu 17 (will switch to 18 LTS when available in may 2018) but depends on what JK_14 says, it's his baby  ;D

most of the issues are library related and GCC 6 which most miners dont't like  ;D

my version will not be as nice on the web page, as the Kopiemtu 3.0, but it will have the same functionality (well, no master-slave commands but other than that....) including GUI administration via VNC / RDP.

I'm working on it right now.
Indkt.
