Unfortunately Bitcointalk's most famous flatearther locked his thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1009045) after merely ~800 pages without conclusively proving whether the Earth is flat or not. We can continue this extremely important discussion here. Anything with the word "earth" in it is on topic. Bonus points if you can prove that it's shaped like a tostitos scoop.

I am pretty sure that I got him to believe (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1009045.msg53910595#msg53910595) the earth is in fact round based on my method and my personality confirming the earth is round.

I doubt he ever did not believe the earth is a sphere.  It was just a game trolling people; he got a lot of recognition for it - I wonder why he stopped.  :/

A lot of the flat earth people believe the earth is flat like a cult and choose to ignore science and logic. This is primarily why they don’t have any credibility. There are also some people who like to pretend to be these people to troll online communities.

notbatman is opposed to Flat Earth Society (and possibly some other "official" groups) because their theories didn't match his. Apparently there are different ways for Earth to be flat.

That's gonna be tough, because (1) I don't give much of a shit; and (2) I wasn't a good student so all I remember is something about sextant, blockade around Antarctica, no gravity (?), unobtainium dome with projected lights, and I think there is some Nikon or Canon camera all flatearthers are supposed to use to magically pull objects from below the horizon.

Why do some people fanatically prove that the earth is round or flat? After all, there are many other questions, too. For example, what is around the Earth, etc. I mean that in order to understand some detail, you need to understand the whole mechanism. Personally, I try to study different areas (science, metaphysics, religion, esotericism, etc.). And comparing/analyzing different information - I come to some conclusion.

Things aren't talked about easily. What I mean is, there is a lot of detail in everything. And when you talk about it, you need to clearly say the things that you mean, or other people won't understand you correctly.

Now I'm not picking on you personally. But you are a little bit of an example of this. What do I mean? Many FE people think the earth is round, like a coin, or a pizza, or a plate. Even notbatman with his idea of the FE extending in all directions way beyond the edges of the ice ring that we call Antarctica, considers the water/land area inside the ice ring to be round.

We all understand that when you said round, above, that you meant spherical or globular. Or did you really mean flat and round?

Regarding the words under your avatar: everybody is born once as you mean it. Not only atheists.

But believers in Jesus salvation are born twice... the first time like the atheists, the second time of water and the Word, effected by the Holy Spirit.

Here's the important part, though. Atheists will die twice, but Jesus believers will only die once. What do I mean? At the resurrection from the first death, believers will go on to eternal life. Atheists will go on to the second death where there is no further resurrection.

This second death will be agonizingly painful, and will last for eternity. Why eternity? Because we are, spiritually, a tiny chunk of the Spirit of God likeness. Such a spirit cannot die, but will be in a position of being constantly destroyed forever. God will not be there to maintain it as He will be for those who do not take part of the second death.

Even if you scoff at this, and don't believe it, consider it, because it won't be fun if you miss out on eternal life.

On March 7, 1947, not long after the end of World War II and years before Sputnik ushered in the space age, a group of soldiers and scientists in the New Mexico desert saw something new and wonderful in these grainy black-and-white-photos - the first pictures of Earth as seen from altitude greater than 100 miles in space. Mengel conducted upper atmosphere experiments by launching the rockets into near-earth orbit. He designed and fabricated the first research nose shell to replace of the V-2 warhead and began placing cameras in the nose shell.

Before the Small Steps Program began in 1946 using V-2 rockets to take images from space, the highest pictures ever taken of the Earth's surface were from the Explorer II balloon, which ascended 13.7 miles in 1935, high enough to discern the curvature of the Earth. The V-2 cameras reached more than five times that altitude and clearly showed the planet set against the blackness of space. When the movie frames were stitched together, the panoramas taken in the late 1940s covered a million square miles or more at a single glance.

There are so many pictures from the outerspace that proves the fact that the earth is not flat.
Why do you keep insisting in opening a new thread? There is no way to prove that the earth is flat...

The problem with this is that the earth is not a rapidly spinning ball. This is shown at the poles, where the difference in gravity from the equator is very little.





The point is that gravity doesn't have any opposing force that is large enough to keep it from working quite well with the weak amount of force that it has. Nothing opposes gravity except a tiny bit of centrifugal force.

I once went to a village and then met one of the old ladies there, she said that the earth was flat and had a tip there, honestly it made me laugh a little.

But the real point isn't those who believe it. Nor is it those who disbeleive it. Rather, it's the ones who know it.

Last time I heard of a flat earther he killed himself right after seeing the earth is round. Not suicidal just his helium baloons or whatever he used went rekt. There's a few success stories of flying baloon chairs that went quite the distance.

Those are understandably good and valid points to consider under the circumstances since a lot of other people often do a "knee-jerk reaction" instead, rather than having an open mind and discussion about ideas.

Honestly, fiction or non-fiction at all re: flat earth theories (or whatever theories for that matter), I don't know why those against flat earthers are even finding the time to dish out those "butt hurt" comments, more often than not.

There is not any way to do it by yourself - only machines such as GPS can do this for you and you cannot understand if it lies or not...

I know the pizza map is just an azimuthal projection map, which is also bullshit. I'm a non-conformist flat earther. I think the earth is regular map shaped and the ocean just spills off the sides, collected in big buckets and redistributed as rain by ancient alien technology.

So the Earth is rectangular and when you fly from Tokyo to LA (well, used to back in the day when air travel was still a thing) - what happens exactly? I have a feeling we're not being told the full truth.

I don't think you're ready for this, but when you cross the edge of the map you are simply transported to the corresponding longitude on the opposite side of the map, kind of like what happens in Pac Man. That's just going east/west over the Pacific though. North/south edges are still bordered by ice walls, obviously.

But that's not all.

Crossing the edge going in either the east or west direction causes your body to be disintegrated by a laser barrier and you are re-molecularized on the other side. So basically every time someone crosses the barrier they die and are reanimated on the other side (again its alien technology -- I don't fully understand it), but the process happens so instantly that nobody ever feels it or notices anything different.

There's a few populations of Eastern Siberians and Polynesians that regularly cross the barrier, some several times a day, and it is found to have long lasting psychological effects on them. They report feelings of dissociation about 10 times more on average than populations of the same ethnic groups that don't live next to the barrier.

One of the basic questions regarding FE is, where is the base idea of flat? Look around at the whole Earth. There are mountains and there are valleys... not flat. If you want to use the ocean surface on a calm day as flat, what about the mountains and valleys under the surface?

On flat land, and even on flat land that is under water, there are many levels of flat land. For example, in the Rocky Mountains there are loads of mesas and tables that are at many different levels, and they are all reasonably flat. So, which one would a FE person use as his base for where flat really exists so that he could use it as the flat of the earth amidst all the mountains and valleys?

There isn't anything that we know of that is flat. Sound waves and radio waves aren't flat. Graphene isn't flat, even though it is one molecule thick. What is there that is flat? Nothing!

Flat Earth people seem to be talking about something that they really can't describe... flat. And if they can't describe it, how can they imagine that it might exist anywhere?
