On a lighter note, Eth 2.0 will be the next ethereum :D. On a serious note, I have always said that ethereum will retain its position and value no matter how good blockchain network comes forward to compete with it simply because market is with ethereum and to replace it from the market is not a thing that can happen in near future.

Please stop this kind of topic. There's no point discussing who will be the next Ethereum. Since a few years ago, there have been discussions like this and a lot of tokens and coins have been said to be the next Ethereum.
But not any of them did follow the path of Ethereum.

Hello friends, I'm new on btc talk, I already hear him and look on him few years ago but now I have an account and it's my first speak on it.

So, I have looked on some of crypto projects and I want tell you one, I have invested on it but it's not very know actually, it's called "Uniris" and the particularity of him it's 1 million trx per second and bio metric security system and certificate by french government to make security on a big evenements like jo 2024 in french. I'm very curious to have your return on him, I think he have a good potential to be the future, the main net is for half 2021 so we will see but I have never see a huge gap like that, I am very curious for your opinions.

Polka dot is trying to do what ethereum already does but with more advanced features and more efficiency but i do not think that eth can simply fail, others will struggle to find the users and clients while ethereum is already the biggest and most popular choice of the community.

Next Ethereum? How is that even possible to predict? With the way people keeps joining Ethereum community, with all the developments done by the team so far, with the fact eth 2.0 will be launched soon, I think there is nothing like any project replacing Ethereum for now.

I think the true question is "what is better than ethereum" because we can't know if something will "replace" it but the uniris blockchain will be for sure better than etherum 2.0 anyway and that's why I mentioned it just before, you should look on it, it's a great deal.

because we know that Tron has upgraded to 4.0 and their network is really good,

There is no next ethereum as such. Ethereum is very powerful and has huge overheads.
There are efficient versions of Etherum that can provide a large number of the use cases ethereum can with much lower overhead.
I dont see any project improving on what ethereum seeks to do exactly.  They have the lead and the funding and network effect.
I see Bitbay ( the project not exchange) as the older but lite version of ethereum with other strengths that nobody knows or has caught on to yet.  Find it but don't expect to be able to buy it anywhere except OTC.

Still if you have limited funds and want to find the next eth, forget that and stick with bitcoin or eth.

Tron is already following everything what Ethereum does so it is one of the most serious contender for this post but I think they will continue to co-exist just like they are doing at the moment.

There is no point waiting for the next ethereum as there won't be any in the next couple of years. When eth first live, it didn't take much time before other projects started building their projects to compete against ethereum. I know few others  like tron that has enough similarities and extra to ethereum network. yet still, tron hasn't been able to replace ethereum in #2 place in coinmarketcap. Truth be told, there's no need to compare these cryptocurrencies coz it's not healthy to do such.

No one yet because IEO didn’t succeed that much to replace ICO and smart contracts. ETH will still be the top altcoins and the only altcoins I see as a good competitor is XRP and BNB but for now I’ll go for ETH for the win. Make sure to have ETH before it reach ATH, more good news will come.

Allow me to nominate xrp because, I am a holder of it right now and definitely my holdings $200 isn't enough for my future expenses so I have time to let it grow. Hopefully, my asset will soon reach the price of eth and can be next to it when perfect time comes. Meanwhile, I just let my money be safe at this method of letting it reach the passive income potential profit.

No one. there will be no the next ethereum, ethereum was the creator of smartcontract which being copied by all of the new platforms that have been calling themselves as ethereum killers. The platform must be innovative as ethereum to be the same level as ethereum. The majority of smartcontract platforms were only copy cat of ethereum.

I have been associated with cryptocurrency for a long time and looking at the details of cryptocurrency so far, I think no coin can be the next ether.

No coin can replace eth. In cryptocurrency, eth is called mother. The location of eth all the time after bitcoin. The new Solona Blockchain will be used in the future as almost all projects are currently working using the eth blockchain. So sorry to say but this project is a scam project. they conducted an Bounty here but failed to keep up the work, after which they dissappear and there was no update on their telegram, twitter and other social media link. please do your research properly before investing or joining any project. their whitepaper is totally hogwash and unachiveable.

check out this tokens. i believe they are strong competitors of ethereum in smart contract. Elrond, Avalanche, serum, Matic, TRON is another top smart contract project that is working hard to replace ethereum but it is monopolized by the owner. there are also other projects. Terra money is also good. we use to have OMNI but they failed behind.

Another coin will not be able to become the next Ethereum, because in this case nothing can shift Ethereum's position in CMC, it means that another coin will not be the next Ethereum. Because all the Ethereum community won't want to let other coins compete or become the next Ethereum, what's more there will be Ethereum 0.2 for sure Ethereum will become strong and the price will be even higher in the future.

Ethereum is Ethereum alone not unless you will based it on price. As you know every coin is different have their own use and own pros and cons so I don't think there would be a next Ethereum unless you will copy it and provide same service as Ethereum I can guarantee that it won't get any value.

I agree with you that ETH 2.0 is the new ETH. Serenity launching (or The Beacon Chain) hasn't had a major positive influence on the price yet (still early days until people catch on :D), if at all, but I think the next phase of ETH 2.0 which is Shard Chain due to be released in 2021 will make a major impact as transactions speeds will increases by 1M  :o

So how is this different from ethereum and tron ?

If we talk about replacing it on the current rankings maybe the xrp is the biggest contingent and we already see it for so many times where it the number 2 spot base on the cmc rankings. But for other new coins claiming to be the next ETH well I doubt there's no one can do that since first this coin is been here and got a good adoption that's why it's so hard to get overpowered by the other who claims that they are great.

According to my estimate replacing Ethereum from its place is absolutely impossible and I don't think there is or will be any coin to beat ethereum ever as we know it took many years for eth to reach the current position and one day a new coin will come and replace it is that a joke? Nothing, so far I have never seen new tokens that can compete with Ethereum, because Ethereum is already very strong in all sides and Ethereum has also been born into crypto for a long time, so it will be very difficult to beat other tokens whose birth is still very new to crypto.

Do we have a coin capable to replace Ethereum? XRP again? It for sure not BNB, nor XRP could take it. It was just before that XRP makes a step over ETH but that was a very short cut and it back to normal again and I was supposed to think that what we have now, ETH still dominating in the altcoins.

maybe EOS once predicted to be a strong candidate to challenge ethereum., but so far ethereum stil be winner. for new project they have to give many prove that worth to be ethereum competitor. the first thing was about trust, if they could prove as trusted project investor will look it as good assets. to beat ethereum , projects need many things to do . especially on network scalability and smart contract creation.

In terms of the ERC-20 hegemony which has made Ethereum the prime choice of developers for Alt projects, there are plenty of alternatives but not many will find it easy to succeed. There is no dearth of developers and investors willing to put money and time into creating startups whose products are based on Ethereum. That community is its strength.

There are alternatives of all shades like Polkadot, Cosomos, Lamden and a lot else. Yet Ethereum had the benefit of being PoW and with it the confidence of being decentralized. When it turns to PoS or some other form of it, i doubt that people would like to trust it with the same kind of monetary confidence that they currently do. That is the chance for the next PoW based, smart-contract platform.

I think at this juncture and time in the crypto space, we need to stop asking this type of question because ever since I have come across this question in particular and with the series of suggestions people gave, Ethereum is there as the best altcoin, it is still there as the second top coin. It is an unstoppable question about the "next" coin, BTC or ethereum or any compared crypto. We saw a lot of times about this the claim of the "next" big thing in the crypto market.
Yet, still, Ethereum stays #2.

Those mentioned platforms have long way journey to compete with ethereum. Maybe if eth developers will stop doing their developments, those can catch up with the popularity of eth. But right now, still a lot of projects are being created under eth.

So how is this different from Ethereum and Tron ?

I remember back in the ICO days all the projects were based on ETH blockchain and people were trying to figure out what the next ETH will be, this is like 3 years ago at least and people were looking for it, now we have DeFi and most of them are based on ETH again, not all of them but most are based on it, and people are still looking for the next ETH and that is just wrong.

If these are based on ETH, I doubt thye could be bigger than ETH. So I believe if there will ever be something bigger than ETH, it has to be something not tied to ETH itself because nothing that is all relying on eth could be bigger than it. I feel like things that have their own blockchain and even provide option for other projects to be based on them, could become bigger than eth and nothing else can.

In your opinion, what other coins will replace Ethereum, I can bookmark BnB (Binance) as The next Ethereum, because BnB (Binance) has similarities in the system they designed, and there are even many projects that use the BnB (Binance) Blockchain system, in my opinion it is the most appropriate to replace Ethereum ..

Out of all these Tron is probably the most promising right now but will need to do more. It shouldn't just follow the trends but start creating trends.
Tron is a very fast network that allows some free transactions daily too and fees are very low anyway. It should be more consumed into the entertainment sector that was supposed to be the target.

The next Ethereum is Ethereum.
I don't like Ethereum. And Ethereum has a lot of competitors doing pretty good job.
I do like Waves, as I had a bit more contact with it.

Still, the truth is that the next Ethereum is Ethereum. It's next to impossible to take over the "place" of the coin that's leader (and older) on a certain branch. And Ethereum is such a coin.
So if you want to have a "leading" coin, then innovate more and come with something completely new. This direction already has the leader position taken.

Maybe I was just honest here but I would like to say that there is no other Ethereum and there are no other altcoins similar to it. And as what @NeuroticFish said, "the next Ethereum is Ethereum.

I have Ethereum, I have BTC, and I have some altcoins stuck in my wallet.

It's literally impossible to say cus right now, in all the crypto that currently exist, I've not seen any that has the ability or half of what it even takes to replace Ethereum, if any project is going to replace Ethereum, I don't think that project is launched yet and it's probably going to take years upon year cus Ethereum is not stagnant either, as the the project build, Ethereum is also building so its literally impossible for any project or token to replace Ethereum.

There will be no next ethereum. Just accept that ethereum is ethereum, no one can replace it. Ethereum is just Ethereum, almost all altcoins have unique features, so new altcoins are forced to be able to provide better ideas to survive in the cryptocurrency world.
If the point in question is price, then BNB has enormous potential to be able to approach or replace Ethereum as the queen of cryptocurrencies

Kinda hard to catch the next big fish and I doubt there is a potentially good altcoin that can replace the ETH completely. For a temporary timeframe, it is possible but for the long timeframe, I don't see a chance for the altcoins to be on the top 3 crypto market cap list. There is no need to overestimate the altcoins with nice potential. The next Etherem can be this or another coin but finding the exact coin is a waste of time because the real world is completely different than what we have in our imagination.

well, even when there was an altcoin like that, it might have been made a long time ago. however, altcoins that have the potential to replace ethereum have been discussed for a long time, and to date there has not been a single altcoin that has the potential to exceed that. I heard this question so many times in the forum, even comparing Bitcoin and ethereum to which one is the best or which will be the next to bitcoin, and now, the question goes to ethereum which is a very unrealistic question. You can monitor the CMC regarding this matter but as of now, there's an unclear answer to this question. Why do you need "next ETH"? What's wrong with this one? If the interest is purely for the sake of raising more dollars on the rise of a new coin, you will go with a calm soul to dig in the trash called "altcoins" and find something that you like.
There are too many coins on the market and the vast majority of these coins are really useless garbage that is there today and will already closed tomorrow. As for me, you should not wait for the "new ETH" and start thinking about how to get away from the dollar in the direction of pure payments in cryptocurrency and no more.

I want to believe it's EOS because I invested in it via OWNR. EOS competes with ETH thru transaction capacity and has no transaction fees.

I wondered when I see this kind of questions been asked, can there be and next coin of an existing coin. We will definitely have new coins coming up. And the possibility of those coins replaciy another coin is what I'm not too sure of. We have seen great project coming with outstanding coin to solve a particular problem. Among the altcoins Binance is most qualified for the next ethereum but it means if the Binance look like ethereum the value of the ether is higher. The second I think is possible the ripple because there is a lot of people use for their transaction because of the low fees also.

In my opinion, Ripple because the XRP market cap has increased even XRP has shifted Ethereum from the second place before. XRP is likely to rise past Ethereum in terms of its moves and performance

Yes i also think that Polkadot has strong platform and also on own blockchain .They could make something different to the market but it is impossible to overcome eth .Eth will making their platform more strong as others doing so that it is so tough to say that if any coin can overcome eth .

Instead of looking for the next Ethereum, why not just look for good coins that you can invest in and earn good profit , whether they become the next Ethereum or not, does that even matter? You all should stop stressing yourselves with all these kind of questions.

Moreover I have seen this question being repeated a lot of times on this forum, people will just be guessing some altcoins that won’t even make top hundred in the next ten years. So, stop stressing yourself about all these things and put your focus where it’s supposed to be. Tron is pretty good in terms of transaction speed as well as transaction fees, but I'm not sure that TRON is able to keep up with the scaleability that ethereum offers. still a big homework for ethereum because the busy network makes them delay long in transactions, and the gas fee is quite high. but i think tron ​​is still not enough to beat ethereum

No coin will be the next etherum; no coin is going to be the next etherum. Etherum will remain etherum and other tokens will be other tokens. The only accepted comparison is when you compare their functionalities, scalability and their transactions per seconds amongst other features. The closest to Etherum in my opinion is the Waves platform.

Hmm, I think your question is a little vague. The better question would have been if there's any other coin that might be able to match ETH 2.0.

I think the next best coin to ETH is of course ETH 2.0, but if you were to speak in absolute terms I'd then tend to say maybe Polkadot. The reason for this is because I think Dot has the potential but keeping all things the same, I still don't think DOT will be able to compete with ETH 2.0

Since there are just FOUR coins that is supported by.my local wallet (namely BTC, ETH, XRP, BCH) i would prefer XRP. Ive been using this before for instant transaction and also there is really small amount spend for the transaction fee. The only problem with it is that, the price is so sudden to Change. You can gain a big amount of money on an instant and also can lose all your money on an instant. So  XRP is not preferable to be a storage of fund.

Well, some people will hate me for this comment but i have a trust that DeepOnion might reach that status. Someone tagged me in the past for talking about this project and i'm sure that lauda and the other great and well known members are against this project but i'm going to say it.
DeepOnion was alive from 2017 and they delivered a great airdrop, they even have reached 18$ in terms of price and they are developing the project since july 2017, they have segwit now and they are going to have smart contracts soon, i think they will fight for that.

I noticed that several projects have been said to the a worthy competitor of ethereum, but non has been able to stand tall like ethereum. I would not say the next ethereum but if you check out the utilities and use cases I find Tron TRX to be the closest to ethereum ecosystem as tron is almost offering all the same services that ethereum does with faster and cheaper transactions but eth is more popular, more practical and has more adoption so it will not be an easy task for anyother project to even come close to ethereum.

I am really liking Tezos right now.  They already have wrapped usd, btc, and eth tokens.  They use price oracle that pays the contract from staking. Very elegant design. So we will see.  I definitely am accumulating and staking slowly a nice bag.

You can create tokens of your own from Tron blockchain and it has metamask type of wallets where you can store all those tokens, having your own blockchain ecosystem does bring you to higher level than other projects at least. Tron is just another overhyped coin. If low fee is the sole criteria, then we have hundreds, if not thousands of options available. What we need is a platform, which has good acceptability as well as scalability. Tron has some acceptability, but it has remained stagnant for some time now. Many are speculating to switch to TRON because ethereum's gas fees are very high, especially for those who make transactions that are not large. but it seems that a person's habit factor is very unaffected, many do not want to innovate and stick to ethereum. It will still take some time for tron to give many ethereum users confidence that tron can do better.
Therefore, it is certainly not easy because Ethereum is still very well known and recognized for every transaction.

I think Tron has both of them. a Very good Blcockchain technology as well as very fast and smooth smart contracts on tron . the tron tokens are easier to use. and they are very cheap (if not free, USDT is free in some exhcanges) Tron is fast in transaction confirmation
so I think Tron has everything to take over Ethereum in coming years. (only if it's quality and stability remain as good as now, otherwise it won't take over ethereum).

As for my opinion, there is no altcoin that can be like ether but there are some altcoins that will be be good for investing in recent time which its price will increase over time. Some of this coins that I even prefer to invest on are stellar lumen, cardina, and link. These three coins I prefer so much but that does not still mean they are like ether but will have price increase during bullrun like ether.

In my opinion Ethereum cannot be replaced by other altcoins in the near future, but if it's just a prediction, I think BNB deserves to occupy and replace Ethereum in the market, because BNB is almost the same as what ETH has. especially platforms and Smart Contracts. It seems to. The biggest possibility is ETH being overtaken by its own ERC20 token which is USDT since it's the only one that's alteast have 1/4 of ETH market cap and if we don't consider ERC20 token into account then there's no competition at all. ETH market cap is too big meanwhile other coins struggling to increase theirs. ETH also keeps gathering all the capital through many projects on its platform.

It is really difficult to say which coin is next Etherum. But Ethereum is very powerful and has huge overheads. And most people say Ethereum is the next Bitcoin. Ethereum is unique and is also a pioneer of the smart contract. We are sure Ethereum will become strong and the price will be even higher in the future.

Don't say because something is huge, then it can't be replace. Xrp was a top leading coin in market cap but due to some unfortunate and unforeseen circumstances, it's now at the verge of collapse and been replace by litecoin, cardano shillers and whale are also doing everything to take over the market, so never say never as anything is possible.
Bnb has lots of use case but when compare to Ethereum, Ethereum network has more edge over Bnb as almost 90% of altcoins are hosted on Ethereum network, now do the maths and compare it with binance though not as if they are really bad.

I think this kind of comparison is not too much worthy. At this point ethereum is the biggest platform based token available in the market. It is hugely popular. It has a very huge fanbase and also the biggest 3rd party dev base also. So at this moment uts very hard for any coin to reach that popularity. Technically there are lots of platform available which are better than ethereum atleast in speed and cost matter. But still people chose ethereum over anything. So now you can understand why other tokens can't cross ethereum.

I'm really bullish on Cardano. I think with everything it brings and with news that they have in plan for this year it has a possibility to come to 3rd place behind BTC and ETH. Surpassing not yet but we will see what future will bring.

It's not cardano but its Polkado is the only coin that can be very close to the ethereum. This time polkadot has been placed at the 4th place of CMC and that being said if DOT is the future.
Ada does not become the main consideration as an alternative smartcontract platform for ethereum.

I don't think any current coin can be the next Ethereum. There were so many things like that in the past. Couldn't compare anything to Ethereum, and failed.

I don't think this is a very good idea to compare other coins with ethereum. In the market there are lots of competitors of ethereum. But people like ethereum most. It has a huge marketcap and a huge follower base. Also the 3rd party dev base are also high. Ethereum gas fees are high but still people like to use it. I don't think at this momemt no other alt can reach or cross ethereum.

For now no one can beat Ethereum, but there are some coins that might be the next Ethereum. The closest thing is probably Polkadot, especially

I can say that next coin which use Binance Smart Chain can be in rise. We know that we pay too high transaction fees on ethereum blockchain and maybe after ETH 2.0 it will be resolved but now we can follow projects like pancakeswap and the others. I would suggest to follow BSC network tokens.

The possible competitors are the Polkadot and Cardano. They both have very decentralized networks. They can solve the high gas fee issue too.

You are absolutely right on that, there is not any project which can be successful than ETH. That is right there are numbers of projects and some of them are really successful. But that doesn't mean they can replace ETH place. But everything is possible in this world, maybe my prediction is wrong. But l believe in ETH, this coin always will be my favorite coin. there are many competitors closest to ethereum for example BNB. I believe it is not going to be something major we know of, definitely not going to be second ranked neither, ethereum will always be ethereum but something will be very much liked and a lot of things will be built upon it as well. You have to understand the thing that made ETH so much wanted was the fact that other things were built connected to ethereum blockchain, and that made ethereum bought a lot more, and that is the key to success of ethereum, not only it was good itself but also it had a lot of other good things all attached to it, which should be whatever the next ethereum is.

I believe Avax has that chance, it definitely works to become a new ETH and has many good deeds all capable of building with it, but BNB is definitely the one that took my attention the most, it is building even a huge defi ecosystem just to rival ETH right now and price increased a lot as well.

I see coins that have strong candidates to become the next Ethereum are Plokadot, Binance coin and also Tron coin, there are other coins such as Xcash and Minter ,, it's just that these two coins have poor marketing, so maybe it is more suitable to be the next Ripple .

Does Polkadot support tokens like Ethereum? I tried to find it but couldn't. If you look at https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/polkadot-new/ you can see that DOT is a token on the Binance Coin network.

However for me other coins are very difficult it seems to be the next Ethereum,

I dont think there is a coin or token we can cOmpare to ethereum  . On the off chance that you are talking about the price then it might be BCH maybe . The question is asked many times by people who are late after the succeed of ethereum. Nothing can beat ethereum for now, the one that makes it bad is its high gas fees. Eth2 is just the beginning. I think it's getting harder and harder for new projects to overtake ethereum in terms of total market cap. If i remember correctly XRP overtook ETH for a few days or so sometime last year.
Regarding new ETH in terms of functionality there are a lot of projects that are doing similar things like ETH and maybe some of them do it even better than ETH because they could learn from it's flaws.
