Auction for ColdKey victims of the apparent theft

LINK: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5434506.0

This thread is going to serve as a collection list of items people are willing to donate to a future auction that will take place on January 31st 2023 and will run for a period of time.

Each item will be listed as a different lot to bid on.

The payment address will be supplied by another community member who is trusted to collect these funds, not me.

As items are brought up in this thread or via PM I will add it to the list here.

I'm so sad for those who lost funds in this debacle. Hoping everyone involved can get restitution.

If you would like to add an item to this charity auction please send me a PM here on the forum with an image of the item or email me, or reply to this thread.

Please note that whatever items you choose to donate you will be responsible for shipping the item to the auction winner for that particular lot. An alternative could be is one person can collect these items and redistribute them, but that may add to the shipping costs all around.

This thread will be updated as new/more info is presented.

UPDATE JAN 30th :

Just spoke to MinerJones.

I will be shipping him a batch of blank 2022 Lealana 0.01 BTC Brass coins for the donators as a thank you.

Each donator will be given one of these blank coins. I will permanently mark the link to this thread on each coin's back facing surface along with a list of all the donator's forum handle on each coin.

MJ will help with the shipping of these to the donators.

I'm so pleased to see how many of you were willing to give in a time of need to those who were scammed.

Thank you all who so generously donated.

Looking for trusted party to hold funds:

Please if any one in the community who has a good trust track record would like to hold the funds please let me know. Not sure how to determine this as I don't want to dictate this. Perhaps a community consensus of who those persons could be would be appreciated.

Big Mahalo to all who have donated! 🤙

EDIT: FEB 1st

For all who donated to the auction:

Blank 2021 Brass Lealana coins. One per donator shipped by Minerjones.

I may add a design to the center area if I have time before they ship.

BIG MAHALO TO ALL DONATORS FOR YOUR GENEROUS DONATIONS!

If I missed anyone's name I will add it on to the coins before they ship. My bad!

Are there any suggested person(s) who should be trusted with the auction proceeds?

I would rather not hold them.

I'm open to hearing input on the matter.

One user brought up the discussion of how to distribute the funds to those affected. I'm not sure how this will work. But I'm sure the community can come up with a good way to do such a task.

I offer to volunteer but would also suggest minerjones

If it needs to be it could be done as a multisig wallet with 3 key holders requiring that at least 2 agree to send the funds - this way no 1 person can walk away with it

Can you specify exactly how I should label the item for the OP donation list?

That would help me a lot.

Yes I know it's 2 of 3 multisig, can you also please agree to use hardware wallets. You have all been trusted with a lot more funds then this will probably get to, but it's more the point now just to show that extra caution is good, you can never be too paranoid, whatever. This on top of the lukejr hack just gives BTC and this forum a bad look at the moment.

I never use hardware wallets - would not even know how to start with using one.

I have quite a few of em in my collection though :)

I use core - does that count? This is to show that one person cannot up and run with the funds - provide a bit more peace of mind. There is not enough money in existence to make me take it. My face is known, my name is known, my address is known and quite frankly I am simply not built that way.

Don't want to take this too far OT, but it's not about trusting you. It's about avoiding vulnerabilities. We are all human, we all can get tired, make mistakes, or just not pay attention and screw up. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5432665.0;all Putting aside all the conspiracy theories luke who has been a BTC developer for years who knew better still managed to mess up and loose a fortune.

That is the point of HW wallets. AND, this is just my view, if you use them and talk about them other people might use them and then some people who DID make a mistake / did something stupid will not loose their BTC since even though someone got access to their BTC wallet they could not do anything with it without the hardware wallet to sign the transaction.

to me hw wallets have a higher chance of failure than myself :) and wasn't lukes on an exchange or something? that was the first issue in my opinion.

but agreed not wanting to derail.

if it must be with a hardware wallet, I use bitcoin core - that's as close to hardware wallet I will ever get (outside of like a ballet hot wallet - but I would not use that for this) If that does not work for the community, then I will step aside and let minerjones work with another person. It does not offend me in the least.

Maybe I am missing something here.  Are these items going to be auctioned off for a bona fide 403(c) "charity" to sort of make "lemonade out of lemons."  Or, are these funds that will be given to people who got their Coldkey wallets swept by Yogg?

I would see the needs of true charities to be very different from reimbursing folks who have been scammed.  Many people have been scammed out of their crypto over the years.  It's a risk we all understand and take.  Heck, I've been scammed out of BTC before.  So I'm hoping this is an effort to try and generate funds for those who are truly in need as opposed to those who have means, but maybe just a bit less now due to Yogg.

Don't get me wrong, I'm very sympathetic to what happened to all of Yogg's victims, but it's a false equivalency to suggest that this would be a true "charity' auction.

If this is going to a true charity, then for sure I'll have some Cardsmiths items to donate.

And I'm speaking for myself here, not Cardsmiths to be clear.

Perhaps the word "Charity" was the wrong word to use.

The idea here is to gather items the community is willing to donate that will go to fund a "relief fund" for those who have lost money in the coldkey debacle.

Apologies for the delay, I have some magazines7 I would like to contribute, as I mentioned
they are not that exotic but could start off someone on their new collection or add to an
existing one.

Look the way I see it is that there is a really good community here in the collectibles
board and I a positive thing and important to support each other, not just each others projects,
trades or auctions etc. but a times like this. I would like and hope that others would do something
as positive as this if something like this were to happen to me.

Also almost everyone at some point has ran FREE RAFFLES on the board and this is
not that different.

What is different here is the level of betrayal by someone well regarded and well supported.
It is about the loss in both the Bitcoin and the monetary value of the products/project but
it's also about that "knife in the back" feeling which the friends of YOGG and supporters of
the project must feel. Contributing to this venture sends a statement that we are standing together
and supporting each other for now....and the future.

These are how the silver pennies were made.
There are 2 versions.. a right-facing eagle and left-facing eagle... all of them are "upside down". This is coin alignment vs medal alignment. Or some call it "book turn"
The original 2015 had some of these "error" book turns coin :D

Looking for trusted party to hold funds:

Please if any one in the community who has a good trust track record would like to hold the funds please let me know. Not sure how to determine this as I don't want to dictate this. Perhaps a community consensus of who those persons could be would be appreciated.

This is a great campaign being put together here. Respect to everyone who contributes to this. This is not something that can be taken for granted and it impresses me. Unfortunately I can't add anything. But one question came to my mind. Does cygan also get something from the proceeds? After all, he paid compensation for many victims out of his own pocket and is therefore also a victim of the coldkey scandal. So he should also be seen as a victim in my opinion or what do you guys think?  :)

I'll do it.
Distribute funds = pay to many, easy :)

Even if everyone 100% trusts everyone else involved it still makes it a bit more secure and shows people it can be done so they can do the same things for the security of their funds.

So far we have the following parties that have volunteered publicly to help assist with the auction funds:

Minerjones
MoparMiningLLC

I'm in no way trying to dictate who should or shouldn't hold the funds.

As it currently stands the two individuals above appear to be trusted by the collectibles community to assist with such a task.

If there are no objections by the time Jan 31st rolls around, I will assume they will be the ones to take care of handling the proceeds.

I'd be suprised to hear any objections, sounds like a great way to handle it. Will it be a multi-sig thing or just split funds?

Also I was wondering how the auction should be held.
- duration?
- all in one or split up into 2, or 3 seperate auctions?

Personally I think a split into at least 2 seperate, maybe 3 consecutive auctions would be good to increase exposure to potential bidders. Length a few days, maybe even 7+ days, for the same reason.
Maybe there are other ideas?

Very cool initiative to support those effected 8)! Its truly a shame many of the coldkey items had their funds swiped. Some of the artwork really was amazing and just found out the other day that my silver having set had the funds taken  :o!

Now that the donation period has been completed I will be organizing FOUR separate auctions with multiple lots that will run for approximately 3-6 days in length and be in succession (one after another is completed).

I will post the general details for these FOUR auctions once I've ironed out all the details.

MJ and Mopar (or both of you) please contact me to provide a BTC payment address for the auction proceeds to be sent to after each auction.

It has been an honor to help where I can and I would really like to thank all of the donators for their kind contributions to the auction list.

Aloha

hmm 2 lots - the 3 F*D together and the 2 Moonbits together - will that work? If not, all separate then.

Aloha,

I'm not sure if it qualifies but I am donating the 0.006 BTC that I received from the auction of the 4x cold-key set to the public address (auction treasury) associated with this thread. When said public address is made available publicly.

Link to cold-key set auction: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5436317.0

If this is deemed as a donation in accordance with the criteria of this thread, I would be honored to be squeezed in somewhere on the coin.

I wanted to supply pictures of the finished pieces of the actual items that would be shipped. Mary Ola has been built and is ready to go. The silver PR prototype is built and fully funded with .0025 now. Bid often and bid high ;) Smoothie Thanks for the great gift. Let me know a final mintage for those as I put mintages of 30 and under in a different safe location.  :)

1/2 oz Mary Ola with new CT holograms. Mary Ola is a motherly figure who provides and protects for you. She holds your keys. This round is hallmarked "CT" so I know it was originally build by Caribbean Treasures and the hologram serial number is recorded. It is designed in a generic way with no denominations so you can build it with any of the cryptos listed on the back. You would simply turn the round so whatever keys you build it with have that crypto located at 12 o'clock and apply the hologram. This specific piece was built with bitcoin keys. If you would like to redeem the bitcoin and build it with another crypto such as THETA keys, just ask. I will ship a couple extra original holograms with the circular transparent window labeled "Crypto Bugs"

https://i.imgur.com/QoEvSkT.jpg
https://i.imgur.com/f1vdviz.jpg

The Puerto Rican 7.77 gram silver prototype is packaged up and is ready to go, but is kinda hard to see from the plastic packaging. These are part of a physical currency project for the caribbean islands and countries. I did a few different designs to see what works best for visuals, understanding and comprehension of the public. Pieces listed in Bitcoin, Satoshi and BITS exist in small numbers. Mass produced pieces will be in copper, silver and gold with different denominations.

The Hologram - At the top of the hologram it says "Caribbean" with the serial number in bold under it. A square transparent window is centered and will display the public key. A pair a swords cross to protect the pile of "Treasures" at the bottom of the hologram. The background is binary and translates to "IN GOD WE TRUST".

Whom ever wins, let me know where you want it sent and I'll get it sent out next day by noon.  After I confirm payment has been sent to the donation address of course :) Thanks

This is going to be epic!
There are a lot of very tasty collectibles here which should tickle the fancy of a lot of people.

My bad!

Will get these shipped to MinerJones along with all of the other in the coming week or so.

Wow, this is unexpected, thank you very much smoothie. These are very special.

All 4 auctions have concluded and a total of 0.4003BTC was donated by the bidders!! 8)

Still waiting on some payments and some of the items to get to me or be shipped by the owners.

So what is going to happen to these funds?
How will they be distributed?

the ones on feb 10th - he pulled more funds???

are these cards still intact? if they are, that just furthers the case that Yogg is behind the theft as he was the only one with the keys if the cards are intact.

They were intact… and it’s 100% Yogg’s Bitch Ass!

they were intact? or are intact? I am only asking as I dont see that stated above but maybe he posted it elsewhere?

do not get me wrong - I am no way supporting or defending yogg - just asking for validation is all.

All 4 auctions have concluded and a total of 0.4003BTC was donated by the bidders!! 8)

Still waiting on some payments and some of the items to get to me or be shipped by the owners.

So what is going to happen to these funds?
How will they be distributed?

Awesome!

REQUEST: Can you give us all a total on how much funds have been gathered in total across all four auctions?

This would be very helpful to know.

As far as what will happen to the funds and how to distributed them, I do not want to have any say in this process.

Aloha

Sure thing.. right now The amount sent to the address so far is 0.25425 btc
There is balance of 0.25235 btc, as one of the bidders included their shipping cost of 0.0019 btc in their payment

I have yet to submit my payment for the 2 wins yesterday.. will do so soon. :)

that is a very valid question
all victims have contacted me (after i created this thread: [INFO] Scammed/Peeled by Coldkey (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5434598.0)) and have been reimbursed by me (for the amount loaded on their cards).
my suggestion would be that you should first refund the users who did not accept my offer of refund (because they wanted the money from yogg and not from me)

I was thinking the most efficient method for auction fund distribution would be members that have cards on the lists I provided and have not been reimbursed yet could prove which cards they have, as I did. After a certain amount of time has passed the auction funds could be divided evenly among the wallet holders since the total swept was beyond the auction funds 🤔 I couldn't think of a better option, please don't hesitate to post ideas 🙏

I agree...those victims first that refused Cygans BTC on principle

And if it were up to me....I would also refund Cygan as he was not a scammer. So for doing the right thing if there any left overs give to Cygan for any BTC he rolled out personally

2 Big If's... but I think this would be a great idea...

If the Icarus folks are up for making a special edition wallet for the victims & donators using some of the funds raised...

If Lucho would be willing to make some art for the card/wallet or possibly just edit the original halving set art to show maybe a ColdSweep getting torn in half (halving haha)

In a way, Lucho is the face of the scam though he wasn't responsible.  And Icarus is basically the rebirth of ColdSweep but without the rug pulls.  Seems fitting.

Each victim & each donator for the charity auction would receive a wallet & the funds left over would be equally distributed to each wallet.

Everyone gets a cool collectible, some bitcoin funding & could possibly make some people whole in a couple years if the wallets are cool & go up in value.

that is based on the assumption that the collectors are in the mindset to sell for a profit. I paid high premiums to buy mine after the initial sales and while (luckily) none of my card were swept, in reality the load value was a small fraction of what I spent.

And that probably goes for everyone who bought theirs on the secondary market vs direct.

The hard truth is the amount swept, the amount loaned to yogg, the amount paid for undelivered cards etc etc far outweighs what was made in the auctions.

Yea of course.  I paid .05973 BTC for my one silver halving set.  I'll never be made whole.  I wouldn't sell the wallet if it was made, but seemed like a good idea for everyone involved.

Obviously the auction funds should go toward the actual swept wallets (including cygan for the ones he reimbursed) as we took losses on the premiums, unrecieved (paid for) orders, and loans toward bringing the project back to life  but those can't be added or it would be unmanageable and well over 1 btc just in my case alone. Fbi will hopefully be helping with this issue in the near future but for now it would be nice if the immediate victims got something for holding these (once) amazing collectibles.

I actually love this idea! Even if no sats are added to the end cards and we use the proceeds to pay lucho and Icarus.

If you chose to not peel the cards after Yoda kindly gave us all notice of being swept then that to me is on you and shouldn’t be reimbursed. We all knew the halvings were compromised, if you left them funded and they are now swept - then you bet on red and the ball landed on black. I peeled all history sets on principle, cuz fuck Yogg - zero chance I’d leave halvings intact.  It’s not like he swept them the next day - but a month later.

Besides that - I have no opinion. Run a raffle with 1 spot per coldkey owned and multiple pay outs,, donate it to a good cause, or whatever, but Yoda gave us all notice to peel and if you knew about it and chose not to - well that’s negligence.

I'm sure we would not mind making a card etc but Icarus will not be making funded collectibles or even fundable collectibles at least not in the near future unfortunately but then again that's kind of the point. 🤷‍♂️

If your wallet is not on the list of yogg swept cards it would make 0 sense for you to be reimbursed, if you peeled and got the funds, these victim funds don't apply yo you. I had 0 access to my wallets to redeem them until they were already yogged

Hookz, you got your silvers swiped in rug pull #1 but didn’t you have your golds in hand & choose to leave them funded before rug pull #2 in February?

And I disagree that people who redeemed their ColdSweeps so Yogg didn’t have more booger shooger $ aren’t entitled to something from the charity auctions.

Do the math, there are not even enough auction funds to cover the yogged wallets 🤔 let alone anything more.
And no, if you see my previous post I unfortunately had no physical access to my collection until recently when I got them to help make the lists of directly affected wallets for the victim auctions and realized he had swept another batch of cards in February. Obviously peeling at that point would have been pointless

I like this idea . Luckily I didnt lose funds to yogg. But I did peel my copper halving and I think 8 or 9 other cold keys that were purchased on the secondary and I paid some high premiums. So I kind of like the idea of a raffle with how many cards held earns a spot for each. IDK, Just such a shitty situation. Im cool with whatever everyone decides.

all victims have contacted me (after i created this thread: [INFO] Scammed/Peeled by Coldkey (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5434598.0)) and have been reimbursed by me (for the amount loaded on their cards).
my suggestion would be that you should first refund the users who did not accept my offer of refund (because they wanted the money from yogg and not from me)

i wanted to emphasize this topic again (and hopefully for the last time), because unfortunately nothing is happening in this regard...
my suggestion was and is that the following users should be compensated first:

chronicsky - 0.055BTC
Mitchell - 0.0125BTC

i would also be very happy if my costs, which were incurred by the whole refundig, were also paid - and that was already a considerable sum...

Nothing is happening because the affected users cannot reach a consensus on what to do with the funds.
Those two collectors could be paid back and then we would have outstanding debt of funds paid out by you and the loans that were taken.
Maybe since it would be you and only 2 or 3 others, you could make an agreement with them on how to pro-rate the funds so that it is fair for each person

ofc you also should be reimbursed. if the funds are insufficient to compensate everybody, then the fairest solution would be an allocation pro rata.

that sounds good. i would even waive a certain amount so that there is something left of the 0.4003BTC mentioned. you never know when new victims will show up here and the future will show whether anyone will actually come forward.
but most of the users (44 cards from 19 victims) have already been compensated by me

curious - not an objection - but curious, why those two individuals over the rest? and what is being refunded/paid to the victims? the amounts lost from being swept by yogg? If so, did everyone else accept funds from you except these two?

I was fortunate in that I only lost funds from one card. My loss stems from the loan, amount paid for 25 cards never delivered and the value paid for the cards on the secondary market.

if you reimbursed them out of your pocket - why would you need to reimburse them again? or do you mean they contacted you and you did not reimburse them?

I have not been reimbursed for the funding I lost (it was one of the timelocks) but that was not identified until much later as he swept it much after all of this happened.

how do I put in a claim for the funds I lost from the one card? for the 25 undelivered cards and the .05 BTC loan?

i can't answer that question either. the only thing is that things have to move on here. it's all well and good that the funds have been lying around for almost 6 months now, but they should also be moved and distributed
and if nobody gets in touch, then nothing will happen and the satoshis will remain on the wallet for a few more months

just my 2 sats

thank you Cygan.

It will be interesting to see how this progresses, who would one even submit a claim to? What is required to prove the loss?

ie in my case with the the loan/the 25 card purchase/funds lost from the one card etc

I think there are quite a few more that did not accept a "refund" from cygan, right? I know I didn't (wasn't crazy much, though).

A way to approach the how-to-manage-funds question would be to have maybe one person or a team of 2 or 3 trusted collectible memebers that take the task upon them to collect all data on anyone affected by sweeps, missing cards, missing funding and loans.
We then can compare that total to the funds that were collected during the charity auctions. Let's say we get a 1:5, meaning for every Satoshi that's "missing" we have 0.2 Satoshi to distribute to anyone affected.
All this should/could have a deadline (maybe within 3 months or so) - anyone that doesn't come forward with proveable losses from the Coldscam will not receive compensation from the charity funds.

Sure, we can prioritize either people who loaned money or people that haven't accepted cygans offer, or cygan himself - but most fair to me seems to take EVERYONE into account equally and just payout a share like suggested above.

Just my few sats. It's late after a long day and maybe I missed some important points.
So feel free to discuss.

That may work, but cygan already refunded people at 100% of their loss.
How would that factor into the losses/repayments?
If it did come to a 1:5 ratio, would they have to pay back 80%?

Good question and first impulse is: They can't be factored in at all. Good for them, I mean it was everyone's choice to take up cygan's offer or not.
Them paying back 80% (or whichever number it is) is of course not a feasible option.

Generally I believe there are only non-optimal options, meaning someone will always feel disadvantaged or believe the funds should be distributed here or there first or with other proportions. That's why I think there shouldn't be any priority.
That said I think lost premiums cannot (and should not) be included in the losses calculation. They change all the time and cannot really be determined, also I would book it under regular collector risks to lose out on (most) of a premium value.

Yeah, I wouldn't expect people who already received compensation to pay back funds.
So maybe it would be "better" if cygan paid back the two outstanding members (Mitchell and chronicsky) like he did the other members and then that would clear single card claims and only leave the loans, cygan, and undelivered/outstanding cards?  ???
This might make it a little easier to figure out the compensation level/ratio

I think the issue is that there are more than 2 who were not paid back fully - kryptowerks and myself as examples of two such.

There are probably a dozen or so that have not been paid back.

Also - how do you verify if they  swept it or if Yogg actually did? the ones that are in bulk are obvious but if I recall there were single cards that were claimed to have been swept by Yogg but they were in a single transaction on their own and not with the group sweeps.

I also think nothing can be done for the premiums - that is the risk we all take in collectibles.

as for loans and undelivered cards, there is surely not enough collected to cover those. Sadly.

i just want to make one thing clear so as not to give the wrong impression. of course i don't want to get my full amount refunded, but i would be very happy with 60-65% and on the other hand i want things to finally move on and be brought to a conclusion

In my opinion this is insane that everyone hasn't come to a conclusion yet on how to distribute the funds.  I would say for the sake of those whom graciously donated to this cause, it's time to pass the funds along to the victims.  Now I'm not completely caught up on the entire thread of late, so maybe there's stuff that I'm missing or has been discussed, but IMO it's an easy solution.  Those whom got rug pulled with their cards should be refunded first.  When it comes to loans that's technically impossible to prove fully how loans were paid out and what not, so IMO they should come second.  For the record I don't care if I see a dime back.  So I'm not saying this with any skin in the game as I'm fine taking my name of the list of those whom should receive funds.  Also, by now, I would hope everyone realizes suing Yogg would be a massive waste of time and money.

I agree partially -

1:  stolen/swept funds by Yogg
2: purchases never delivered
3: loans

While loans can be hard to document - some may be easier than others but I think loans should come last not second.

I dont think there are even enough funds to cover half of point one though.

But I agree it should be handled soon.
