0b) What You Need (top) (#post_contents)
You will need a few accessories and a power supply to get started.

1) Powering (top) (#post_contents)
AM V1s do not come with a power supply, and you will need a typical computer PSU with 2xPCI-E 6 pin power connectors.  We also need to tell the PSU to
always be on, as there isn't a motherboard to do this. Cut a paper clip into a U and insert it into the green wire and either black wire to the side of the green
wire. Tape it up for safety. The power supply will now be controlled by its switch on the rear socket.

https://i.imgur.com/AXm1t8k.png
2) Cooling (top) (#post_contents)
The AM V1 is self sufficient in cooling terms and utilises two 120mm JS14025HB12 fans to cool aluminum heatsinks on both the top and bottom of each board.
Noise levels are very reasonable and comparable to the AntMiner S1.

3) Case (top) (#post_contents)
An open steel case is used as the frame, adding significant strength to the miner. The units are easily stackable and measure 390 x 190 x 145mm, while
weighing in at 4.2kg. The shipped weight is 5.2kg, and the dimensions of the box box are 425 x 255 x 220mm.

https://i.imgur.com/AXm1t8k.png
4) Configuration (top) (#post_contents)
AM V1s require a Raspberry Pi (http://goo.gl/g769Oy) as the controller.

Wiring:
  • Plug the SD card into the Raspberry Pi.
  • Plug the 26 pin connector onto the Raspberry Pi with the red lines facing towards the centre of the board.
  • Plug the other end of the cable onto the top, right hand 8 pin header when viewed from above with the fans facing away. The red lines should face right.
  • Plug the included 8 to 8 pin wire from the top, left hand header to the bottom, right hand header. Make sure the red lines faces to the right.
  • Plug in a network cable (http://goo.gl/hCQilO) from the Pi to your router.
  • Plug in the PCI-E cables to the miner and the power cable to the Pi.

Software:
  • Power both on.
  • Using a browser, navigate to 192.168.1.123 (http://192.168.1.123) - this goes to the AM V1's configuration page.
  • Navigate to the page "Cgminer". Enter your pool information in the below format. Click Save.
  • Navigate to the page "Network" and make sure both the gateway and dns are set to the IP of your router. If you are unsure of what this is, press your
windows key -> type "cmd" -> type "ipconfig" and look under "Default Gateway".
  • Navigate to the page "Cgminer Status" to check mining has started.

The R-Box is self succulent

mmmm....succulent and an R-Box no less

Dogie...I think you are starting to phone these in ;-)

also, you link to the parts list shows an rPi case but no rPI..this is presumptive that the V1 shipped with an rPi which is not true of all sellers

and I don't see a link to how to download the image to the rPI and get it running..probably would stump anyone looking for a "comprehensive guide"

AM V1 can be purchased without a pi, but a pi is currently the only accepted controller. Each unit should come with the necessary ribbon cable to attach the pi to the V1. You can control up to 4 V1s on one pi with the latest firmware.

yep...I read that...my V1 is ordered and in-route and I look forward to setting it up

Sorry I didn't order from you but I found it for $40 less at another source

rPis are included as standard, only resellers take them out. An SD card with a preimaged SD card is also included. I could also include instructions for how to install firefox to login and buy an AM V1 but I don't for the same reason as above - if its not required by 95% of users, don't confuse the 95% for the 5%.

Any information on how to chain multiple to a single RPi?
I have 2 that should be arriving today/tomorrow and I'd love to get them up and running ASAP!

Repeat this down:

Plug the other end of the cable onto the top, right hand 8 pin header when viewed from above with the fans facing away. The red lines should face right.
Plug the included 8 to 8 pin wire from the top, left hand header to the bottom, right hand header. Make sure the red lines faces to the right.

So Rpi into top level right
cable one - top level left to 2nd level right
cable two - 2nd level left to 3rd level right
cable three - 3rd level left to 4th level right

As per the intructions

What wattage power supply should i use for four of these? And would multiple supplies work if all four are connected to one rpi?

I'm not sure about 4 with that PSU, that's around 1280 watts at the wall. I've got 3 running off of multiple power supplies and one pi, no problems.

What wattage power supply should i use for four of these? And would multiple supplies work if all four are connected to one rpi?

Corsair 1200 axi, and yes its fine. http://goo.gl/RA5lzM

I'm not sure about 4 with that PSU, that's around 1280 watts at the wall. I've got 3 running off of multiple power supplies and one pi, no problems.

That will be no problem on the axi, which will do 1300 output and ~1450 at the wall.

Hi, I followed your guide and set up my miner, but now when I save a pool, it does not show up on the cgminer page and when I log in to the pool it does not show up as being connected. I have tried a number of different pools but no like. If anyone could help I would be very grateful!

I have included as many pictures as possible.

I tried this with one being BitMinter, the other using Eligus and the other using D7.LT and all of them didn't work, yet did work on my block erupter cube. I tried to contact customer support of BTC Garden about a day ago, but haven't heard anything back yet.

You can't swap to dynamic on these, the software is very cut down. See the links in section 1)b) for what you'll need depending on your country. They ship with US plugs as standard.

I got the first of my 2 AM V1s setup today.

I'm getting a TON of errors however:
https://i.imgur.com/3XFVR21.png

And for those having issues with it not connecting to a pool at all:
You may need to set an ACTUAL DNS IP, not just your routers IP (depending on what you use for a router). In my case (I'm on comcast business cable) it's 75.75.75.75

In my case I have a funky network setup (my miners go through a separate gateway so I can connect to them all through a server set between them and the rest of my network.

A few other things you may want to note in the guide:

1) If you have more than one miner daisy-chained, in the Cgminer tab (the first), under the pool settings is a setting for "Board nums". This value should be set to 2 * the number of miners (since each miner has 2 boards). I fought with wiring for like half an hour before I found out about this setting...

2) My boards look slightly different. They don't have a PCIE port on the blades themselves. Instead there are 2 ports which have an adapter that can either  take a single PCIE 6pin plug (it splits into 2 cables to plug into two sides). So the 2 6-pin PCIE plugs become 4 power "plugs" - two for each board. In this case I noticed that I had a single PCIE plug split between both boards instead of 1 plug covering the top boards' two power ports with another covering the bottom two. Between this and re-wiring everything (checking all the plugs etc.) I'm down to a reasonable number of errors (200 or so an hour, vs. 10000+).

I can take pictures of my version of the boards I have if it'd help!

So far so good! Thanks BTCGarden.

Its pushing the power down each cable strand quite a bit, but overall power consumption is fine.

Triple check the wiring from the Pi to the modules. Do just one module at a time, from the Pi to the right hand connector with fans facing away. Check red line alignment.

Has anyone been able to edit the cgminer config file by SSH into the r-pi to allow for solo mine?  I have mine running fine with servers but I cannot get it to connect correctly to my node.  I think that I need add:  --btc-address  to the config file but you can't do that with the webgui.

*UPDATE*

Per BTCGarden support, the code to edit the cgminer config file manually on the pi is:

sudo nano /var/www/run.sh

Then start cgminer via the web interface

just make sure you don't make any changes via the web interface because cgminer_update.php has code to overwrite your config changes to run.sh

Try connecting the pi with a different board, as well as changing the board_num to 1. This means only 1 board is mining. You can check which board is not working properly.

Wait, discards are just shares below difficulty. If you have a high worker diff set on the pool side it can take a while before a share is over the diff and gets accepted. I don't know what pool you were using, but back in the day when I was using ghash (don't judge me they were small at the time) the default worker diff was 512 even though it claimed it was 16.

How long did you try running the miner for?

I also had a problem with all my shares being discarded. Turns out I had my wire from the RPI to the board on the wrong set of pins. Double triple check all those

I don't know how your router wouldn't also be a DNS server, that doesn't make sense. Its a router.

Routers route IP packets...they aren't DNS servers

most of what people call "Routers" are actually NAT devices.

They aren't providing actual routing functions like OSPF or ISIS..they just take a public IP from your ISP and then NAT this to RFC1918 private space for your home network

they usually also provide DHCP services and will include the DNS server information in the DHCP response they obtained via DHCP from your ISP so you can auto configure your PCs with both IP and DHCP information.

some also will act as a DNS proxy and pass a DNS request sent to them to your ISP DNS addresses but not all include this functionality

I for instance actually use a real commercial grade router at my house (Juniper SRX-210) which doesn't do this because it is not a DNS proxy....it's a router.

HI,
He said which doesn't do this because it is not a DNS proxy....it's a router.
and other cheap routers don't
I have 2 ISP and I must set the DNS in the AM-V1 network GUI, it doesn't work with the IP of the router. 2 differents routers same issues.

If its so good why doesn't it do what all the other cheap routers do? ;)

because they aren't "routers", they are residential gateways

jacks of all trades and masters of none <grin>

I actually find it pretty annoying that manufacturers have built in the DNS proxy and other wonky features...I would rather the DCHP server pass through the settings from it's DHCP client...it's a much cleaner implementation.

but then I am an old school networking guy who still thinks ATM is a pretty nifty thing....I also sit on my porch and yell at kids to get off my lawn but that's another story.

I get that the majority of folks who don't understand networking and can't properly configure a TCP/IP client need a bit of automation and obfuscation to get them going - and that's really OK

in short I am a router snob who was willing to put a $2500 router in his house....kind of sad when you think about it really ;-)

AM V1 can be purchased without a pi, but a pi is currently the only accepted controller. Each unit should come with the necessary ribbon cable to attach the pi to the V1. You can control up to 4 V1s on one pi with the latest firmware.

Can you have one of the V1 and one of the V1X2 on 1 pi? I'm assuming it does not care as it just counts the boards, but I figure it's better to ask 1st.

I don't know for sure but don't see why not - the boards are dumb to what physical configuration they're in.

Yes they can I have both.  I stacked them and all 6 boards run on one Pi.
I wish they would make some more updates to the software though.  I think they can get more out of the chips if they optimize it more.

Hi
RPI ==> 8 blades

1 first version  2 fans  = 2 blades
2 Version 2   4 fans = 4 blades
3 mixed  2 fans + 2 fans + 2 fans + 2 fans  or 2f +4f + 2f  or 4f + 4

1 blade to 8 blades with 1 RPI

all configurations are always AM-V1, the board is te same

well the 2nd version, If i note correctly, the board is slightly smaller, so there was some question of if the GPIO would work interchangably. But thanks for clearing this up.

A new version is an evolution a change in the spécifications I mean.

I said that to avoid confusion when BTCgarden speaks  about the next miner, he is not speaking about the case with 4 boards he is talking about the next board.

I do have good news that you can still stack the two board type miners.
No issues other than the V1 is wider than the V1-X2 which uses a shorter board.

unable to boot rpi,  it asks for me to enter "runlevel"?  I've tried both rpi B and B+ with both builds accordingly.  the B+ build doesn't boot with a keyboard or ethernet access.  the B board stops and asks for a runlevel...  However does have ethernet connection and keyboard works.  After I enter (tried 1,2,3,4, etc...) I get the same "no more processes left in this runlevel"

running 4 btc boards:  1v X2  1200watts,  all my cables look correct.

Not a clue what is going on with your Pi, unless you mean you're trying to plug into it directly? You need to go into it via its network IP.

the Ethernet port doesn't connect - doesn't show up as an IP address to go to.  the boot (firmware) doesn't complete the USB setup processes.

What do you mean the USB setup process? If you're unable to connect via the network, how are you connecting? Seeing as you've made your own image, its highly likely you've done it wrong.

You must use BTCGarden's supplied image. Assuming you are, all you should need to do is hook the rpi up to your network and navigate to http://192.168.1.123 in your web browser. The only reason you wouldn't be able to connect to the RPi is if you are using a different subnet or there is something wrong with your pi. This needs to be addressed before you even turn on your V1.

Hi Everyone, I could really use some help.. I got my Bit Garden V2 about 6 days ago and I can't get it working. The RPI is hooked up right because I can get into the menus, The problem I think I'm having is my network setting. Can I get a pro to take a look at this picture and tell me what my settings should look like... PLEASE... Thank you very much

Set gateway to 192.168.1.200, and if that doesnt work then set the ip as well to 192.168.1.230. [you'll have to go to .1.230 to connect to the AMV1 again]

? why change the ip of the btc garden ?
192.168.1.123 is a good one

you are right for the gateway it's not 192.168.1.1 but 192.168.1.200
But he must change the DNS with the real DNS of his ISP i'm not sure that using the gateway as dns run, it doesn't for me.

let us know Markcus  ???

In case its out of range for his router. I've seen several which set the IP table to .201-.254 when their default is .200.

That looks fine, what doesn't actually is there are no miners at the bottom of the status screen. Check your wiring and powering again.

I *think* your wiring is the wrong way round, I can't remember the layout for bottom up. Try getting just one board to work first. Plug the Pi's cable into the right header of the top board [where the other cable currently is]. If that doesn't work, try the right header on the board below.

Try to replace the DNS not the router but the DNS of your ISP

Your wiring are OK, allways connection to RPI on the right, on the top or on the bottom same thing RPI on the right.

Tried to replace DNS and no success...

When i turn it on the fans start up, so i know there is power feeding into the garden. Able to access the config page so it's online. I did try and ping from my RPI and it didn't work. There is no internet connect that my RPI is picking up, though i'm not sure if that matters since i can access my status page on the cgminer....
not sure why this still won't work.  ???

One of my boards was fried.. pisses me off ..

try reversing the order - put the rPi on the top board and chain from there - or move the board to a new position in the chain

I had a unit that quit hashing because the first board in the chain appeared to have died.  I moved it to the last and it has been running fine for months.

Thats the mining boards which are the problem - they're not detected at all. Can you post a picture of the data cable from the Pi to the boards please, so I can double check that. More than likely its the first board you've plugged into which is dead, meaning all the others can't be detected either.

I have a BTCGARDEN AM V1, and I need some help.

I have a RPi B+, and the available firmware (0719) does not load usb or lan support on start up with this unit.  According to this guide, the 0828 firmware needs to be used for an RPi B+.

Does anyone have the 0828 firmware available?  On the baidu website, downloading that firmware (0828) actually downloads an install (.exe) for some program that is in Chinese, and I have searched everywhere, but only find the 0719 firmware.

Any help would be greatly appreciated so that I can get this miner online.

I just don't have anywhere to upload that will take a file over 500 mb  (this one is 745 mb)
if you know of a place I can up load it to so you can get it post the address.

I've had these for 3-4 months now the configuration has been saved many times already, is it possible the file is in another directory that I may have overlooked last night.

no, btcgarden didn't use a cgminer.conf file to configure cgminer...that is why all the configs are on the script when it starts cgminer

so, you have api-listen running, it should be going

you might try downloading miner.php from https://github.com/kanoi/cgminer/blob/master/miner.php and putting it in the /var/www directory on the miner.  If that runs and works, you know that the cgminer api is pushing data

let me try a shoot in the dark on this topic.
Anyone still using a BTCgarden AMV1 X2 ?
I am having an issue, cgminer shows 343 accepted, but the antpool shows hashing at 1.54TH/s and 0
accepted.
I had a lot of Antminers in the past but all broke beyond repair, the only one that last is this BTCGarden.
I guess if no response back will have to open new topic.

I`d like to but they`re out of business. Can`t help with experience. What was the main problem with your Antminers, what broke them if you don`t mind the ask. Where to get ASIC chips to suit BTCGarden, got the build files & easy enough for a pcb house, but the main bits?

Cheers

Need to check the settings on my account, did not get any email when electrobits reply back.
It is not true all my Antminers broke, only the S7 and S9 broke, the 3 S7 last 6 months after that stopped hashing one board at a time until all the ship shows X in all boards, the 3 S9 last 2 month to 3 month, after that the miners only hash for 20 minutes and gradually decrease the hashing until stop.
I had S2, S3 and S5 all working since 2013 but when I get the S7 and S9 I trow all the old ones to the garbage because of the noise and the power consumption.

At the end the only one working is this BTCGarden, by the way I found the problem on board 2 after testing board by board, I moved it to the last position and disconnect it, it is hashing steady since. When checking the board I found the aluminum oxide from the chassis dropped over the board, the chassis has a plastic protection outside but not inside, before I put it together I paint the inside of the chassis with rust oleum so it does not happen to the other boards.

For what I see, whoever design the BTCGarden care more about quality and endurance than profit and did the boards design with more space between components and more heat sink cooling area making the miner to run cool, with less fan speed and noise making the fans to last longer.

What you mean by main bits?

Forget getting chips. The BE200 is long long long out of production. To the chip Foundries miner chips are boutique items and are produced in very limited numbers so zero chance of finding unused chips. Only hope is to find dead miners and harvest the chips from them.

As for dead Ants -- where are you running them? I have had over 100 of them from s1 up to the latest s9's and have had very very few problems even with my s9's. Zero dead ones. Ever. Bitmains R4, ja POS -- have 3 of them, 2 are perfect, 1 lost a hash board within 25hrs of starting.

I've sent more S9s in for repairs out of hosting than anything else. Just crossed 3 years of hosted miners in my current facility.

I also had a buttload of scrapped-out BTCGarden machines but I stripped useful parts and sent the rest to recycling at least a year ago, maybe more. Didn't keep the ASICs, didn't think there was much use for them since they run literally ten times the power of current gear. Did the same with a buch of AM Tube and Prisma boards - jeez those Prismas I parted out would have been good for something like 2000 chips.

That would be my thinking too. Thanks for sharing. Main bits was/is my reference to the ASIC`s working parts.

I have since seen some pictures, presumably of the BTCGarden board looks like they have Bitfury ASICs, but might be wrong. :-\

I was running them from home with portable AC units on each one. in separate rooms.
At the end with the BTC value increase I get the invested money back but with the difficulty increase I am hesitating to buy another S9 and not get the money back before it crash.
I guess I have bad luck or maybe because I bought 1 at a time Bitmain just send units that were sitting there with no much care.
I can't see any link to order from the Bitmain website everything is out of stock.

So it seems, but what other chip works with the BTCGarden unit. I have just been intouch with Bitfury, minimum order $500k around 72k ASICs (bit much considering would need a few hundred in any case to test out etc. before such an investment) looking at alternatives. Have just asked NXP, Renesas & Toshiba about ASICs, but then the design needs altering or start from scratch. (eagle parts foot prints etc. more work)

NONE. Miners are specifically designed to work with specific ASICs.
Mining ASICS are very much custom devices made per the design specs from Bitmain, Canaan, Bitfury et al. They are NOT generic devices...

NotFuzzyWarm that`s why you have "Legendary" status ;D, And the BTCGarden unit {zip folder schematics, etc} is pretty much a dead issue. Oh well guess I`ll go GPU. Thanks for the feedback fellas, appreciate it.
