Title: Windows Sidebar Gadget Supports (Deepbit/Slush/Eligius/BTCMine/BTCGuild)
Post by: netxshare on May 02, 2011, 06:40:03 PM
Yes, I know there are a few of these gadgets out there, but I wanted one that matched all the other widgets I use.
As of right now it only supports www.deepbit.net (http://www.deepbit.net). I will be adding more features to it and would welcome any suggestions.

All code is in javascript / html and can be viewed with ease.
The gadget does access the hard drive to save to a ini file to store apikey info.

This is really slick. I've been trying to do something like this, but my programming skills are suxor.

Edit: Sending donation. :) At the risk of sounding like one of "those" users, it would be nice if I could shrink it up a bit. Other than that's it's perfect.

I plan the make the widget smaller and have the worker list be scrollable with a mouse wheel.

It's due to a ddos on mtgox.com I am updating it right now to use a different source due to all the attacks on mtgox.com, will be up in a few min.

Currently the problem is with deepbit.net the API access is not output, as [Tycho] said.

I have set it up to use bitcoincharts.com for market data instead of using just mtgox. Would anyone want to be able to select which symbol to use? so it would not have to be mtgox but allow you to select from a list to display the value.

It could be nice to have a drop down, but everyone probably uses MtGox as a benchmark.

The gadget works cool , however if you can not connect to mtgox.com , you will have the 404 message keep blinking in the gadget windows, and its so annoying.

I have fixed this in a new version I will be uploading today. It uses bitcoincharts.com, and lets you select the symbol from a pull down box in the settings. The issue with mtgox is due to it being ddosed. I am also making it smaller, currently I am having the workers list scroll on on it's own does anyone think this is a bad idea?

Version 0.2 - Released

I do not use slushpool so I added all the API I could find, ill add more if there is any.
If you would like me to change or add anything do let me know.
I still do have more ideas for it. I can also add more pools if anyone wants one supported.
If there are any bugs also let me know about those. You should be able to update via the last version and install this one with ease.

It seems that your resizing enhancement didn't make it into this release.  Also, a suggestion would be to left justify the workers title.  I like the enhancements so far.

Thanks!

I mean to have the option of say, making the widget 1.25 or 1.5 times larger in area via the configuration (similar to CPU Usage and Network Meter widgets).  That would increase the size of the font and everything in the widget.  High resolution monitors have users that like this feature :)

As far as workers, you have Workers centered, but all the workers themself are to the left, so I think the title should also be to the left [or the workers to the center as well].

This widget is an example:  http://addgadget.com/all_cpu_meter/ (http://addgadget.com/all_cpu_meter/).  There is a tab in the configuration for display and it allows a value between 100 and 400% (I use 150%).

Thank you.

Oh I understand now, I run in 2560x1600 so I know what you mean. Ill look into to doing this the gadget might end up having to be longer for it to work correctly, maybe even wider.

It's a pretty narrow gadget compared to many anyway, so I don't think that is an issue.  I assume you are referring to the workers section.  Resizing doesn't apply of course ... it gets larger, but the aspect ratio doesn't change.  It is already useful, but when you get that ... I'll donate some more bits (a little incentive :) ).

Currently slushpool does not offer API for this, once it is added I will gladly add it. I will be making another update tonight with some more features. If there are any requests please do make them.

Since we are brainstorming here.  What happens if the worker name is longer than the available width; does it wrap?  What if you have more workers than the length; does a scroll bar appear?

After the USD: ... can you list the exchange shown?

Also, I am not sure how easy this is [and not something that I care about yet, but I am about to attempt to resurrect my old rig tonight], if the user clicks on a worker, can a popup appear to the left (configurable) showing individual worker stats ... or simply link to the web page in the short term?

Just some thoughts that come to mind.

No big deal .. I really like it as it is already and you have made some great strides in a single day.  Great work!

Ah, bummer. OK, well I guess we'll have to wait until slush adds this feature. It's not a big deal for me as I have his page constantly up.

Thanks for the great work you're doing!

Any thoughts on having an option to disable currency display. This is super handy for just seeing my progress on Deepbit, and the exchange sites have all been a little weird lately. It would be nice to just run it as a Worker Monitor, too. :)

If this somehow was able to show the GPU core temperatures next to each worker thread it would be the best gadget ever.
However something like that would have to be supported by having the mining client report the temperature to the pool and then send it back through the json interface. Would be a awesome feature though.

Awesome little widget.
I like the Pool Hash rate line (and this definitely saves me from a few f5's)
One thing that may be cool (in a vanity way) is to have a line that takes your BTC balance at a pool and multiplies it by the last mtGox (or whatever trade) sites value to give you a 'running total'.
But again, not really practical..strictly vanity.

Keep up the good work ^_^

I could add support for gpu temp monitoring it would require the use of a DLL ( Dynamic-link library ). The code could be made open for that tho.

If you have workers more then the width of the gadget it does auto wrap, but then starts to slowly scroll down then list then back to the top again. I will be replacing this with using a mouse wheel to scroll the list of workers.

so you would want it like USD: AMMOUNT - mtgoxUSD

I plan to do just that with the workers, have a flyout show up when you click on them that shows there total shares and stales, I don't think you can get the hash rate of a single worker yet.
I have some more ideas I wish to add in to that flyout ill see what I can get done today I should have a new version out.

Use the Bitcoin Adress you use for Eligius as the API Key.

I too would like BTCmine included in this excellent gadget!

I added BTCMine support to 'my' version of MinerStats.
Its custom..so it only shows what I'm interested in (Total BTC, estimated, confirmed and unconfirmed bounty, hashrate and current exchange rate) and works the same way; you need to plug in your API key from BTCMine.

If anyone wants to use it while the OP creates a new release, theyre welcome to it.
http://db.tt/GzWQ7dl (http://db.tt/GzWQ7dl) <-- Dropbox

I only added support for BTCmine, everything else remains exactly the same (I added two more definitions in the CSS file b/c I like bigger GREEN text ^_^)

If theres any questions feel free to look over the source.
Rename the .gadget file to .zip than extract somewhere..everything is viewable.

Thanks again for this awesome little widget and I'm looking forward to the new release  ;D

Anyone else notice the USD exchange rate thing broke today and caused the program to use your entire system memory? It was rendering just a colon and the up arrow.

Anyone else notice the USD exchange rate thing broke today and caused the program to use your entire system memory? It was rendering just a colon and the up arrow.

I had something similar happen about 5-7 days ago.

My memory usage was really high, so I checked in task manager and sidebar.exe was using 1.6 GB

Also, sidebar.exe seems to use more memory the longer it has been running.

It's a problem with the fact that widget is updating every second (cannot be changed afaik), and causing a memory leak.  OP needs to fix this ASAP.

I think this leak problem is just a side effect of not being able to reach bitcoincharts.com for me. downforeveryoneorjustme says its up so maybe I got blacklisted for not changing the (default) 1 minute refresh in this gadget?  ???

Title: Re: Windows Sidebar Gadget Supports deepbit / slushpool / Eligius

It looks like this gadget has a bug which causes it to do multiple requests per second to http://bitcoincharts.com/t/markets.json in some cases.

Bitcoincharts has firewall rules which blacklists IPs that cause too many request/s. If you can't access bitcoincharts, email me at info@bitcoincharts.com and mention your IP so I can unblock it.

I think the reason I was banned may be that every time you hit OK in the options, it forces a refresh, regardless of your delay. I was tweaking a bunch of settings earlier while in the midst of changing pools and also adjusting the text size, causing it to refresh repeatedly.

The miner updates by default at every minute, you can go to the settings panel and put whatever you want in, I recommend something greater then 1 minute. I myself am using 10.

I did find a bug that was causing it to create more then one timer I think, making it load the page more then once per update. I have fixed that on my version and I am currently testing it. I will try and have a fix up later today.

Sorry for the problems.

I'd love to get my pool supported by your gadget.  Please send me a PM with what information/format you'd expect, or you could register on my pool to take a look at the current JSON-API output :).  Thank you.

Clicking "OK" does nothing, does not explain this problem to me. Is the settings window not closing?

And I did find a bug that was causing it to update the currency value way to often. I have fixed that now.

I think this is due to the memory leak, I would recommend you open taskmanager and kill sidebar.exe then right click on the desktop and go to gadgets. This will reload it and should fix the problem for now.
Once I upload a new version tonight the issue of memory leak and connecting to bitcoinmarkets.com all the time should be fixed. I have also started adding debug logging into the widget to help if there are any other problems in the future.

Awesome -- thanks for sharing!  :) -- And thanks to the OP for creating the foundation!

Yeah the gadget is broken. Recently it's not able to connect to the market site which then it creates a memory leak eventually crashing sidebar.exe.

Great tool when it worked. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

Fantastic gadget, great work. Little feedback to go along with my inbound donation:

Bug Reports:
As stated, when the API's for either your $/BTC or Pool are unavailable javascript errors occur, and memory leaks happen, eventually crash.
Limit refresh rate to something > 1 minute to prevent hammering pool/price API's from a ton of users, maybe 5+
Dialog size causes the connection error message to appear very strangely at the bottom, extending beyond the dialog bounds.

Feature Requests:
Add confirmation on clicking the BTC value before doing an API call, I don't know how many times i've misclicked that, and or add setting to enable/disable that functionality.
7 day historical graphs for the various values you're tracking.
Add "Total value" field below current price (BTC*PRICE)
Logging/historical of withdrawal
Ability to set background color (even at 20% transparent its clashing with my wallpaper, would be great to match that color so it "blends" and appears as part of the background)

5-12-11 - Major Update
- Fixed Bug that would flood bitcoincharts.com
- Fixed Timer Bug
- Added BTCMine Support
- Added BTC Guild Support
- Added Support for more then one gadget settings file.

To use more then one gadget just simply install the gadget under a different name.

You can do this by changing MinerStats.gadget to whatever you want and then install it or go to %LocalAPPData% and copy MinerStats.gadget and paste/rename.
The MinerStats_Settings.ini is now stored in the MinerStats.gadget path allowing you to run more then one copy with different settings.

I am hoping this fix should take care of the issues people were having.

Also the support for the other pools is a bit limited currently they do not list any of the workers. I have some more things to add in and I will update this again.
This update is a MUST, it will fix the flooding issue on bitcoincharts.com, so please update ASAP.

Also, sorry for the long delay with the update. I had a PSU die and my A/C was dead in the house was having a hard time keeping my miners going this week.

I would recommend you download DbgView, I have set it up so the widget will output to it. All connection tries and status are sent to DbgView. This will let you see if there is an issue with connection and what is the problem.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896647 (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896647)

Run that and load the widget, once it is done outputting. Put it at www.privatepaste.com (http://www.privatepaste.com) I would recommend you PM this log to me and not post it in this public thread. I would be glad to take a look for you and see if we can't figure out the problem.

Oh -- aesthetic bug I just noticed.

At least using BTCMine, it shows the Pool Hash Rate as "89.42GH/sMh/s" which pushes it off the viewable screen for me.

keep up the good work.

This must have been changed on the pool level in the json output. I will fix this in the next update.

It should already support this but you must make sure that there are two different copies of the gadget in %localappdata% they also much be different names.

I am guessing this is due to me removing the autoscroll feature

I will take a look a slushpool, but if I remember right the data is already displayed when you login it's just hidden and the greasemonkey script makes it visible.

Oh, I can see them if I lower the zoom from 200% -> 150%. Weird because at 200% there's still lots of space for at least 3 miners to show.
