Title: Vote to get bitcoin on Fox's Freedom Watch!
Post by: em3rgentOrdr on May 05, 2011, 02:39:37 AM
More realistically, how about the libertarian show "Freedom Watch" by Judge Andrew Napolitano.  Looks like someone has just started a new show topic, so please vote for bitcoin for free here:

http://freedomwatch.uservoice.com/forums/16625-freedom-watch-show-ideas/suggestions/1778101-bitcoin (http://freedomwatch.uservoice.com/forums/16625-freedom-watch-show-ideas/suggestions/1778101-bitcoin)

Only 3 votes so far...needs more!  A lot of great people in the pro-freedom movement have been on that show.  I used to watch it regularly.

Update: within 3 days of posting bitcoin as a topic, it has already gotten 955 votes and is currently ranked 19th!  Yes!  Come on, we surely can beat the topic ranked 18th ("9/12 candidates")! :)

Update: we are now at 961 votes and ranked 18th!  Thank you to that bitcoiner who viewed voted in the past 5 minutes...you put bitcoin just ahead of "9/12 candidates"!  :D

Update: Now at 1,036 votes and ranked 17th!

Update: Now at 1,357 votes and ranked 15th!

Update: Now at 3,304 votes and ranked 7th!

Update: Now at 4,284 votes and ranked 5th!

Please no voting bots.  Humans only.  I don't want bitcoin to be disqualified for violation of voting rules...

Tell your friends on other social networks.  This thing is going viral, and we need to get in the top 3 rank (currently with 7,500 votes).

How many BTC's of bounty to put the thread on #1?

How many BTC's of bounty to have my bot put the thread on #1?

I should tell you guys that most of those 961 votes we're made by my bot, not by "bitcoiners"...

Hehe...very sinister.  I'm thinking of something that goes even further: modify the topic description to say something along the lines of, "Put 3 votes in, leave a comment with your bitcoin address, and you will receive .3 bitcoins."  Of course that would likely violate the ToS and get the topic removed for cheating.

Update: we are now at 1018 votes and ranked 17th!  Time to beat "Redress of Grievances Lawsuit & Continental Congress 2009", ranked 16th, since there's no need to petition the government if you can instead trade in bitcoins! j/k ;)

Folks, we are at 3,152 votes, ranked 7th, almost half way to what's ranked 3rd at 7,500 votes.  So keep it up and tell your friends on other social networking sites.  This is going viral.

BTW, if this gets ranked 3rd and if I do get contacted, would anyone strongly object to me forwarding them gavin's email address in case they want to do an interview?  He seems to be the unofficial bitcoin media representative.  We could also set up a poll to decide.

It airs on Fox Business Network 8pm and 11pm http://www.foxbusiness.com/on-air/freedom-watch/index.html (http://www.foxbusiness.com/on-air/freedom-watch/index.html) so I guess you could say it is relatively popular, and yes it is broadcast in the whole country.  You can find a lot of clips on youtube.

;)  Don't worry.  Bitcoin crosses all sortofs of political beliefs, cultures, countries, languages, age groups, races.  It is a truly universal currency.  Also, Freedom Watch is not your typical pro-Republican Fox show.

Judge Andrew Napolitano isn't a nut bag journalist like say... Glenn Beck.

Yes.  Napolitano actually served on New Jersey Superior Court 1987-1995, before getting into writing and media.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Napolitano (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Napolitano)

I looked at the list of other ideas and I think talking about the seizure of poker money is a good idea too... although I'm glad I voted for bitcoin.

Hopefully if it gets air time I'll be able to download the video somewhere off the net.

My worry isn't that bitcoin would upset conservatives (it might for some of them), but that it would be reported inaccurately.

Like I said, this guys show is more rational than the majority of the FOX network. His agenda is actually freedom, not Republican's can do no wrong.

Judge Napolitano is the only spot of sanity at Fox News, IMO.

Stossel and Napolitano, that's it I think.  I suspect that's its a deliberate and wise business move by Fox...I don't follow the conspiracy theorists that believe that the only purpose of Fox is so Murdoch can elect Republicans.

This was an issue that I myself even was concerned about when the whole Wikileaks/PayPal tirade broke out.  I was afraid that bitcoin would get attacked by the government and other powerful enteties since the wikileaks release had sparked so much negative attention from politicians, the white house, the state department, news commentators, etc.  But this is different.  Freedom Watch is a show promoting many libertarians ideas, so as long as the interviewie doesn't diss gold, ir should be a relatively supportive audience.

Plus the cat is already out of the hat since lead developer Gavin accepted invitation to speak at the CIA, and news sources Time, CNN, etc.

There aren't very many comments, compared to the suggestions that are in first and second position.

As the show's writers will probably read the comments to get their initial orientation to bitcoin, it would be a good idea if people post short comments containing a positive fact about Bitcoin. For example "Bitcoin is great because I can make payments anywhere in the world, usually for free."

#5 has even less comments - 19 only, so far, so what's the problem?

And it's good that the comments are in low number and they are sane comments.
Imagine all the paranoid people that hang around here went there and posted the same type of stuff they sometimes post in this forum?
Do we really expect the TV show producers/whatever to read 2k comments in a topic? I don't think they will give themslves the trouble.
They will be better off by just researching the matter with their own means, i guess!  ;)

EDIT: Taking a look at the topics with the most comments i realized that it happens when the subject is one that as a lot of opposing points of view.
Bitcoin doesn't seem to be the case. I guess Bitcoin will have to deal more with disbelief than opposition.
Unless it's OCN, where disbelief went hand by hand with very sound opposition!  :)

Less than 3000 votes between #1 and #2!
However, if this is as bad as Fox News with Glenn Beck... I don't know.
Anyhow, I suppose the important thing is that we popularise bitcoin.

Probably there is no deadline.

Yeah...that's what I suspect as well.  Im thinking that we are probably high enough already that we most likely will be on the show sometimes, since after #1 gets on, we will be the new# 1.

And again...Napolitano is not Glenn Beck.

It's not.  I understand why you would be suspicious of Fox News, but Napolitano is actually a very sane, freedom loving individual.  I would encourage you to check out some the clips of him on Fox Business on YouTube.  I think you'll agree that this would be very good publicity for BitCoin and that he would give it a fair hearing.  I would be terrified if Glenn Beck was going to be talking about BitCoin because all he'd have to do is explain how the letters of BitCoin, when rearranged, turn out to be 666 and half the US would believe him and start denouncing BitCoin.

Edit:  Yesterday I did some informal measuring and we were getting somewhere on the order of 5 - 10 votes per minute.  At that rate another day or two and we'll be first place.

Less than 3000 votes between #1 and #2!
However, if this is as bad as Fox News with Glenn Beck... I don't know.

I'm a little confused about the website.  Is it an official website that the judge or his producers regularly look to for stories?  Or, is it just somebody's blog where, every once in a while, something on the blog happens to get reported on (not because it was on the blog, but because it was newsworthy, or whatever)?

Fox Business with Napolitano != Fox News

But I understand your sentiment.  Perhaps you can find a similar voting site for one of the other major networks?  This might be a great way to promote bitcoins, if we can get it on a couple major networks to discuss it, it is sure to spark some interest.  It will also let major companies like eBay and Amazon know that it is out there.

Hey, it looks like the voting resets after a certain period of time.  I have been able to vote again from both my computer and my iPad.  You all should go back to the site and see if you are back up to 10 votes.  Then throw another 3 at bitcoin.  :)

right next to the encyclopedia entry for "Bread and Circuses" is a picture of Roger Ailes.

can anybody seriously believe that the channel of the republican party is going to boost - in any way - something like Bitcoin?

...a direct competitor to the USD, which is rather favored by their listenership - and basically controlled by their owners and friends?

c'mon...

Because they're older. The one in the first position has been there for over an year, according to the age of some comments.

Have you ever watched at least parts of Judge Napolitano show? Or John Stossel?

Despite their strong conservative bias, Fox does seem to have a tiny space for libertarian ideas. I guess that's mainly because they make good opponents for leftists, but still.

Napolitano's show is fantastic - I've never heard the word "libertarian" used so frequently on tv, and he doesn't water down the message. However you feel about Fox, give them credit for airing this show at prime time on FBN. It's sure to piss off just as many republicans as democrats. Everything from full-scale drug legalization to abolishing the Federal Reserve is covered on a daily basis. Best news commentary on TV currently IMO. Would be awesome for Bitcoin.

Sorry, I still don't get the site.  That GOOOH thing has been on the site for at least a year and has been number one for a while now, but I don't think it's been done on the show.  Of the 3 under 'completed' the one with the most votes had some 600 votes.  So, I don't see what the number of votes has to do with getting on the show.  Rather, it just looks to me like people vote on topics and when they happen to appear on the show, they get moved into 'completed'.  But, it looks like they're not put on the show because they were on the list.
