Title: Dead 7970 DD Fan Alternative Post by: 1l1l11ll1l on May 17, 2012, 12:03:19 AM So.... My XFX Back DD 7970 had a fan die. I figured I can RMA it, be without a card for a few weeks, or just do this:
https://i.imgur.com/i9KW5.jpg Funny thing is the fan RPM's keep showing up as negative. I think I'll just unplug them Nice thing is I'm at 1170MHz running smooth. I'll update the thread if (or rather when) It fail, falls off, spectacularly chewing up the insides of the computer. The card is damn near new and with a dead fan/that thing taped to it, its value has been significantly decreased. I think the old adage is: Do it right, do it once.

It's a little crappy if you ask me, I think they're using really cheap brushless fans.

These FirstD fans suck big time and XFX has been using them on all their double Ds. Seems like this card is using very bad quality fans, FirstDo or something, they don't even have a webpage. I have low hopes for their replacements and I can just put them back in when I want to RMA. I'm not sure what the problem is, I think it may be that they're brushless and should be in any configuration except horizontal (gigabyte cards suffer from the same problem). Fluid bearing fans have no such problems though.
