how secure the paper wallet if i create and print it from the websites like bitaddress or etc, do the owner of that website known about the private key ???

Download the website, and open it offline on a disconnected computer.

Use it offline, quit your browser after using it, and probably restart the computer prior to going back online to be safer.  (Or use one that is never online)

Instead of running it on an OS that may already be infected, backdoored, keylogged or screenshotted by a virus or trojan horse you've already got, I would recommend running a liveCD and generating the key there. That way there is no chance of an eavesdropper intercepting the key, and it will not be written to the hard drive accidentally even as memory page file. See the last link in my signature.

but make sure that the liveCD is not infected by anybody..
also look at the random generator of the liveCD.. make sure that you get good random numbers.
you see a loot too look at to get a secure paper wallet.

and then, make sure if you print the wallet, that the printer is not infected or store the printed files. (some printer do this)

if you really need to know, you should done ths things without internet so to make it secure.and restart your pc dude!hope it helps!

Paper wallet better than cold storage.

Why is that the case? Can anyone share their opinions on that?
I always consider paper wallet is as safe as cold wallet, as long as they are both created in a safe way.

I am lucky, I recently go hold of some computers, that was going for recycling.
I managed to put some together and used it to print 300+ paper wallets offline.
They are now in pieces and being recycled, so nobody will ever get their hands on those private keys. ^Smile^

I drop some satoshi's towards them, and will destroy them, once it's sweeped onto online wallets.

I am a bit paranoid, when it come to things like this, so this might be a bit extreme. ^LoL^

what the meaning of a good random number??? i don't understand, and it's a nice info to know that the printer can store the file printed...thank you verymuch

that is the best way to create a paper wallet thank you very much, now i have the answer. i have a plan to store my btc in a paper wallet for a long time, may be 3 - 5 years, from now.

Bitcoin addresses are based on keys that are and must be completely random numbers. Flaws deliberately introduced into or bugs in the implementation of operating system random number generators can reduce your security. Making your own key, i.e. with a brainwallet generator, is a surefire way to generate a nonrandom key weak enough that others can steal your bitcoins.

Lol, some people who chose not to sell their BTC holdings when the price was around $1000 are regretting big time. It's unrealistic to expect BTC's price to go beyond $500 again. It's overvalued. The bubble's been long overdue to burst.

I have done it as you said.

bitaddress.org is opensourced a quick inspection of the code shows that no information is send to the server. the owner will not know about your private key.

I use and recommend paper wallets.

and keep away your paper wallet from water and fire , you dont want to regret that later.
i have a friend who forgot to take paper wallet from his trouser pocket before he put that to wash machine.
and he remember that after 2 days , so bye bye bitcoin  :P

Guys you're way too paranoid IMO. Paper wallets are as safe as they get, don't make it even more confusing for the OP. Poor guy !

3 copies is better. You should have two backups, plus your original.

Ok, lets say we have securely safe our paper wallet and save our private key correctly,and we know there are many sites that give a service to restore paper wallet base on private key instead blockchain.info or coinbase, but is there any possibility to restore the private key, if there is no service like blockchain.info or coinbase do...and if that happen what will gona do to restore ouw paper wallet

scan the QR code and copy the private key and import it into bitcoin core which would exist after years.. base58 is supported by bitcoin core.

If you password protect it, with a key phrase, write it down. ^Smile^

This is good advice.  I tried this the other day and and realized a couple things. First, generating the paper wallet offline from the bitaddress.org.html file worked fine.  2nd, when I tried to add encryption to the paper wallet, it would never complete because the browser could not execute javascript code. I tried a different live CD and ran into the same issue. In the end, I disconnected my iMac from the internet, ran the offline generator, and then encrypted the paper wallet. I then moved it to a USB drive (while still offline). Maybe some live CDs can execute javascript within the browser and I just had bad luck with the two I chose.  I'm not sure.  I know this isn't the most secure option of generating paper wallets, but it is what it is.

Well they're only secure if you've taken all the appropriate security measures. They can still go bye-bye in the future so be careful.

Bitcoin private key is just a 256bit number, and so you can create a private key by creating a 256bit random number such as by rolling a dice repeatedly.
