Is this a limited run? If so how many are being minted?

Very nice initiative and the coins looks absolutely great.

The site says there are 10 in stock, does that mean only 10 have ever been made?

Still fairly limited run :)

Just ordered mine, used a coupon code for 10% off, so US$90 for that amazing coin is a good deal ;)

EDIT : coupon code bitcoincongrats :)

I'm working with them on the quantity to remedy the "out of stock" condition.

They probably didn't anticipate selling out that fast.  Most football toss coins aren't bitcoins and don't sell that fast :)

Damn that was quick! Hope they get the issue resolved soon, don't want to miss out on this piece of Bitcoin history!

Very nice looking coin! Would go well with my Gold/Silver 1 BTC.

Is there any opportunity for international orders?

Does their site (assuming not out of stock) not permit them?  (I haven't gone thru the process)

Ah, I've been waiting for this since I happened to stumble across your new blog post a month or so ago- it looks great though! Really cool that they let you design the coin toss coin- it's only fitting to have the original maker of physical Bitcoins make the coin for the first bowl game sponsored by Bitcoin (BitPay)!       (I also gotta give props to BitPay for letting them call it the "Bitcoin Bowl" instead of the BitPay Bowl. Getting the word out about Bitcoin benefits BitPay just as much if not more in the long run!)

Unfortunately the Christmas season has me maxed out on funds- hopefully there will be one or 2 left in another week or so! Will check back ASAP!

It's value comes from rarity, not from the cost of materials. Just like Bitcoin :)

Just managed to catch this thread and place an order in the nick of time.  Stock went from 34 to zero in about 10 minutes.  Coupon code worked, but Bitpay invoicing did not, requiring a rebuild of my order.  Second time around, the coupon code no longer worked, but it did confirm that the order was placed before stock ran out.

Great piece Mike--your much anticipated next release certainly doesn't disappoint.

Their website is messed up!  Will not accept bitpay as others have mentioned.  "Error creating BitPay invoice. Please try again or try another payment method."  If you retry, it creates a new order number with the same error.  I have multiple orders now but no bitpay invoice.  Very poor buggy implementation of bitpay.  I will not buy unless buying with bitcoin.  They need to fix their website.

You wanted to buy right here via fiat but whatever.

Sick and tired of people refusing to trade when I have never once chargedback a payment or done anything wrong. If I ever fucked someone over then have them sue me, everyone knows who I am, where I live and all. Fuck this, abandoning this shit account and starting fresh. If I was a scammer I would have abandoned it a long time ago. I've tried but nothing works. I offer escrow or send first everytime (which I would have done here) and still no one trades. Just sick of it. I'll create a newbie account and in two months be back to trading like always and thats what is fucked up with this trust system.

Uh oh, commemorative Bowl game coins?

It might be time to sell the Casascius coins...Mike, I think you've jumped the shark with this one.

Love your previous work, Mike.

I just think creating marketing tokens will dilute the value and the integrity of the existing original coins. Good luck to you. And if someone has to make a marketing token for the game it might as well be the original (and in my opinion only) Bitcoin coin creator. I hope the bowl game brings a lot of due interest to Bitcoin.

First of all, I am a big fan of Mike's work, and this piece is no exclusion, it is beautiful :)

But the webpage from Strydeathleticis bad, really bad. Was among the first 50 to order with the coupon yesterday, but bitpay failed and my order was eventually canceled, been in contact with support, they have so far not been able to help (proberly because of Christmas).

Now is the bitpay option removed from the page  ???

Tried with 3 different credit card - I gets an error each time.

Frustrating :(

An error overlaid the processing screen with some XML output, but the screen beneath showed successful processing, with a confirmation message sent to my email address.
28 are left. Might be worth taking another try at it, if you had errors before.

How disappointing :(

If it helps, I used Chrome version 38.0.2125.101 m
When I ordered, it showed 28 left; it is now 17.

...the difficulty to order, to be honest, was part of what pushed me to pick up a few.
A barrier to entry into a market, while frustrating, will result in a lower number of people holding the coins. No different than an initial run of a Christmas present being undersupplied. The market was willing to show us that demand outpaced supply.

I liken this to the 0.1 BTC silver coins.  For almost their entire mintage, they had an overhead markup - maybe 0.35 BTC for a 0.1 BTC coin, if memory serves. Nobody ordered them for months. When Mike dropped the premium, the limited quantity got snapped up almost overnight.

In hindsight, the market will not care that it was an undesirable purchase for the first 99% of its offering time. It will care how many people have them for sale, relative to the number of people that want them. In both the silver coin case, and again here, the distribution was not to the masses, but to larger-scale purchasers buying with anticipation of favorable future market conditions.  Because of the web page ordering problems, aftermarket buyers will have a smaller set of buyers from whom to choose, which allows for but does not ensure rapidly appreciating prices.

Also - beautiful coin, looking forward to having it in my collection.

Have to expect a glitch in the system.

Announce a coin and find out there is limits preset by bitpay was the cause.   It's been resolved, but for the delay, it would appear they reinstated the coupon briefly (which WAS only for the first 50 coins anyway).

Coupon should be long gone, however there webpage seams glitchy, so might worth a try anyway (see quote below)

I made 2000.  Many of them won't be available on the market, Santa Claus got first dibs. ;)

Still fairly limited run :)

Just ordered mine, used a coupon code for 10% off, so US$90 for that amazing coin is a good deal ;)

EDIT : coupon code bitcoincongrats :)

Ye I know, just a few people mentioned items being dispatched and I got abit worried because of all the problems we've seen in this thread. Just looking for some reassurance thats all.

I have used other website with bitpay payment processors before. The order goes to "on hold" until bitpay have send a message to the webpage that it is bitcoins are confirmed, then is the status changed to "processing", meaning that the "parcel" is being processed, so nothing is really going to happen before somebody there does something about it (packing up and ship). I am 99% sure that company is legit, so not anything to worry about (imo).

EU shipping as well :)

Then again, the site says 1-2 weeks until it ships so we'll see I guess :)

Way overpriced in my opinion, not even a do-it-yourself wallet "create and attach on coin" here...

Serp's gold plated coin for $10 is the way to go I think.  :P

Coupon code limit reached, bought three with shipping to EU for 1.000617 BTC, nice looking coins!

It says 91 left in stock, but that didn't update after I bought so it will be less than that I expect.

2014 12 30 Edit: 75 approx left atm.

It's quite possible I will release far fewer than 2000.  Only a few hundred have made it into the wild.

I had hoped to have these ready and on the market for the Christmas shopping season but didn't quite get them out in time.  Because of this, a few hundred sold.  I am sure I could promo the heck out of them if I felt like getting rid of them, but meanwhile, given that BitPay's got the St. Petersburg bowl for 3 years, the way I am producing them now, it's economically feasible for me to melt & remint what I don't sell, to become another coin such as the 2015 coin.  When they are no longer available on the Bitcoin Bowl website, that might well be the end of public availability for this 2014 coin.

Didn't know BitPay had a three-year deal...that's awesome news :)

The less coins produced, the more value for those of us who ordered one, so I wouldn't mind seeing far less minted :)

If the article comes from a Bitcoin dedicated publication it's not something that can be considered "media attention." Only if the news hits external media outlets or publications - any outlet that doesn't specialize in Bitcoin - is it real attention.

This sounds like a good idea, having the collection of all three coins  for each bowl would be nice too. Once the 2014 coin is officially off the market publicly, will you let us know how many were officially sold and released into the wild?

More token coins like this are going to cause a run on the original Casascius coins...you're going to see people selling their stash and the perceived numismatic value will fall.

I also think this coin marks and important milestone in bitcoin history, both in terms of Mike's first commemorative casascious coin but also that is the toss coin for a football event.

When that is said, I hope Mike will follow smoothies steps and make buyer funded coins one day.
I like the idea about the buyer send the bitcoins to directly to the coins addy, the "manufacture" then verify that the coin is loaded before it ships out, in this way is the manufacture never in direct contact with the buyers funds, thus FINCEN has nothing to complain about - and we still have the "magic" of buying funded coins.

I disagree and last I read so does Mike. No one should have the private keys except the person who owns it. Why add that layer of risk for no benefit?

I will guess that is have the almost the same dimensions as the Casascius 1 BTC 1 Oz .999 Ag coin.

Elias Casascius Guide say that the dimensions for the 1 BTC silver are:
Diameter: 39mm
Thickness: 3mm
Weight: 1ozt

But you need ask Mike to get the exact measurements or wait until someone have the coin in hand.

same here. i only believe in the coins prior to the shut down. i feel in the long term they will carry most value. the rest not so much. nor do i expect a strong demand.  i'm betting the most demand will be for the silver/gold 1btc and 10btc rounds. that's it. 25btc+ will be harder to move but those will be desired too, just by a narrow group.  that's what i think. we'll see. the bets have been placed. i'm not a collector, just a hustler. :)

Really cool coins, have always kicked myself for not buying original cascascius coins when they were originally released, will not miss my opportunity now.  Really cool to have the football element in there as well, as I love college football.

Just ordered 1, can't wait for shipping and to get it.  To bad I just spent a ton of money going to Hawaii for vacation and credit debt needs to be paid off before more frivolous purchases, otherwise I would buy more.

Actually I was in Tampa, just outside of St Petersburg, the day of the bowl game.  I didnt go to the game though.

Needless to say, my crappy phone pics dont do these coins justice.  Very shiny...fresh off the mint.  They came in these holders shown.

Ordered on the 27th and received all of them today. Seems the bitcoin B is in a matte gold finish.

They look great to me and I'm happy to own a few.  :)

Ordered them on the 24th.

Got the email saying the order is complete / shipped on the 8th.

I will update when I get them.

At the rate bitcoin is dropping in value, the coins may soon be worth more in silver value than I paid in bitcoins.  :(

edit:  Received 1/15  2:30PST

Taking a couple with me tomorrow for an Altcoin meetup in Chicago which I plan to sell for BTC or USD
if anyone is interested.

A quick read through this thread and it's like all the Bit-numismatists in one thread.  Didn't see Goat yet.

Goat hasn't been around since for ages as far as I know is. Haven't seen or talked with him in a while.

I'm have been waiting over a week since I ordered and I'm getting tired of it. I know it said one to two weeks, but how hard can it be to put a coin in a box, slap an address on it and ship it out. Shouldn't take as long as it does. I really hope it's worth waiting for.

I'm pretty excited that less than 2000 will be out in the wild...and from the sounds of it, less than 1000 even.

Got this in the mail today.  I ordered maybe within an hour of them going live.  I live in the U.S.

Actually I was in Tampa, just outside of St Petersburg, the day of the bowl game.  I didnt go to the game though.

Needless to say, my crappy phone pics dont do these coins justice.  Very shiny...fresh off the mint.  They came in these holders shown.

If this is your first Casascius coin it is really cool when you first get it...it's one thing when it's on a screen, it brings it all into reality when you're holding it.

We bought a few and I'm noticing the "dented" rim actually looks like it's from the striking...I could be wrong, but any defects from Mike himself should increase the value, that may even include any scratches or oddities.  I'm thinking of having all of them graded at ANACS, especially since he may be destroying the unsold coins to make next years'.

I also noticed all of the ones we purchased have some level of dent, one actually has gold plating spilling into it on the bottom that must have moved during the electroplating...which is awesome because people definitely like error coins.

Post a pic, message Casascius with a link back to the thread...I'm sure he could tell us, and if it's a quality control issue they might swap you out for another, otherwise it may be worth more because of it.

I can swap them for better ones for defects that are unique to individual coins. Sometimes the marks are in the die itself, and that just ends up on all the coins, but if gold is out of place, I can swap to improve that.

Yes, if the defect is factory.

From what I read on the prior post, his coin appears the gold had been scratched (mishandled).

I purchased many of the coins, and I am happy with them overall.   That's not to say I wouldn't have chosen to swap out a couple had I been in a shop buying them, more specifically due to the premium paid on them.  I have more of an issue with the cases used.  I would highly suggest cleaning up the flashing before shipping them out.

This is the one with the gold on the bottom rim spilling into the coin, as well as a little spill over off the BTC.  On the back at the top it appears there is a burn mark, but doesn't look damaged from a drop or anything.

Wow, the gold spill/misplacement is way off on your coin.  Not sure if it makes it more or less valuable.  I guess if more people want the in the future, it could fetch a price higher than they are now.  (Hope to have them more limited than the expected 2000)

The flashing I was talking about is the plastic on the case.   They Coin World made the plastic halves, they make (for example) 20 per press.  They are all connected to each other and then broken off a type of stem.  If you look at the coin, the flashing would be at the bottom of the case where the two halves connect.  On high quality cases or slabbing, they would debur this so it is clean or barely even visible.  I don't think this was the case on these units since all of my coins exhibit this flashing.

Agreed. I am not blaming Mike for anything, still a big fan.

I would just appeal that he would sell the coins from his own webpage or here on the forum next time he release a coin. I know this is s football coin, so it is properly part of the deal that stryde have the rights to sell the coin. Nevertheless I will hesitate by ordering from Stryde again, I had problem in pretty much every step of the process... I am expecting nothing less that my coins has actually been tossed around like football before it was placed in the slap and shipped to me.

Other than not getting the discount, I paid with BTC and they shipped pretty much as stated a week and a half later, but I see several have had issues since.  Guess I was lucky.

What I'm curious about, is if their remaining stock is all they have, or if it's going to be reloaded with more once the next 57 are sold.

From the diff pics posted, it would seem the gold looks like that.

I would believe that Mike would exchange it without a problem; however, you have to also consider that it might (possible) be worth more as an 'error' than anything else.

What is a shame is that the coins were not numbered.   Meh.

$119.88 For a coin delivered to NY is crazy. I really wish Mike would sell these on his own or from a vendor who could deliver the coin for $100. 20% markup with shipping and tax is brutal.

I agree.  The price is high and shipping is high.  Meh, you know that up front.
The only thing that bothers me is the number of people that complain about it afterwards.  You either want the coin or not.  Complaining about the price afterwards seems strange.

I would be MORE upset if they changed the price to $50 after so many purchased at $100.  That would be something to complain about.   :)

I send an email to them around 7th of Jan and politely asked if my coins where shipped yet (included ofc order number).
Just got an answer today (yah) - that they will get back to me as soon as possible and my email has been forwarded to someone who could answer my question.
So I answered politely that they could close my case since my coins arrived last week  :D

For those of you who already have had their coins shipped, roughly how long did it take for them to arrive (U.S. btw).  I received an order shipped email on Jan 20th, and have not received anything 9 days later.  I am getting unhappy with stryde, especially considering the $15 I was forced to pay for shipping, this thing should have been here next day.  Also it says UPS was the shipping method, but I can't find a tracking number anywhere, either in the email or under my account on their website.  Why on earth would they not send a tracking number with an order that was over $100?

I have asked stryde for an update on my coin 5 days ago and I still haven't received anything (except an "we will look into it"-answer). I asked again two days ago, but still nothing. Getting suspicious and really annoyed right now.

Mine took 8 days, but they are on the East Coast while I am on the west Coast.
They shipped via UPS which is slower than USPS; however, it is WAY more secure and automatically insured.

You were not forced to pay $15 in shipping.  You didn't even have to order it.  Sorry, it just kills me that people know UP FRONT what the cost is and complains about it after the fact.  Just consider it a $115 coin with free shipping.

I do agree that they should have emailed a tracking number.  They do need to change.  I didn't find out my tracking until I signed for the package.  :)

If you want a coin fast, just PM me.  I will sell for $100 + $6 shipping (paid via Bitcoin of course) via USPS Priority Mail.  Fair?   :)

I can swap them for better ones for defects that are unique to individual coins. Sometimes the marks are in the die itself, and that just ends up on all the coins, but if gold is out of place, I can swap to improve that.

got my replacement coin today looks better thanks

And you ordered on the 4th? Something fishy going on there. Sorry to hear.

I received mine (purchased the 7th) about a week or so ago. It is pristine and has none of the gold bleed as the pic floating around this thread. Another satisfied Cas-tomer :P It's getting sent out to ANACS with my 2012's for grading.

Thanks, Mike!

Great to hear! Yeah, it seams like people get their coins, just need to have a lot patience.
If you send some of them off to grading, then please send me a PM if I can piggy-bag 1 or 2 Casascius St. Petersburg coins.
Cheers!

Sigh, apartment complex fail.  After talking with Stryde's help desk (which handled my issue quickly and efficiently), they informed me that my coin had been delivered and was at my apartment complex's office, and even though I have checked with them, twice over the last week, they indeed did have it and just failed to notify me.

Anyway, good job on stryde's part and beautiful coin.  I think I will definitely be getting this graded and put up for display.

EDIT:  I have never gotten a coin graded before, I think I want to use PCGS or NGC, can anyone provide advice on what they should be submitted under?

Not sure they will grade Casascius, or any crypto for that matter...if anyone has different information please do share.  Believe ANACS is our best option for now...

Indeed--quite easy to get these coins graded with ANACS.  PCGS and NGC still don't accept crypto-related coins, although I'd wager that will change eventually.  Submittal details here:

I have noticed that this coin is now listed as "Out of Stock" on the Stryde website, after weeks of the quoted "In Stock:" numbers not really moving. I wonder if that means Casascius kept with his plan of melting down some of the remaining stock to be made into next year's coins?

Besides the splashed gold-plating, the coins I've seen so far look amazing and should get some pretty high grades I'd say.

Wow, yeah, stryde went from 50+ coins available to now 4.

Either someone bought them out or they are returning them to Casascius to be re-melted for next years' coins.

just ordered one - Im a bit skeptical of the markup and large (2000) run quantity, but it looks fantastic. It wouldnt be the first 1oz silver coin ive spent >$100 on

wonder if we will see it fire-sale for $50 in a few more months though... IMO, the sooner mike melts down the remainder and keep ths total of these in circulation low, the better

When they are no longer available on the Bitcoin Bowl website, that might well be the end of public availability for this 2014 coin.

 ;)

Ok, got my reply from ANACS, and they would be happy to grade these coins.  There is a 5 coin minimum and I have 3 coins I want graded....so here is my announcement to get your coins graded!

Join my ANACS coin grading run.  The costs are very simple and are broken out below... (U.S. Only)

Cost to ship to me -          Whatever it costs you
Cost to ship back to you                         -  $4
Cost to grade coin                                  -  $14 per coin
Cost to Ship to Grading Service               - $5 per coin
Cost to Ship from Grading Service to Me  - $5 per coin
My fee for time/plastic holder                  - $3 per coin

Total                                                      - $4 + $27 per coin

These seem to be the costs that it will take per coin to get graded, if you are interested please let me know and we can work on getting your coins to me so I can start the run.  Please let me know if there are any questions.

Thanks,

DebitMe

I was wondering...  how would you distinguish who owns each coin? If you collect a bunch of coins from different user, how would you distribute them fair, if they come back with different grades.
The coins itself do not have any serial number.

The ANACS service asks you to put the coins into plastic cases and mark each one with a number that corresponds to the line on the request that you submit.  I assume they come back marked somehow, but I have no prior experience with this.  Can anyone lend an hand if they come back distinguished from each other?  If they do not, then this group grading will probably not happen, because I will have no way of knowing whose coin is whose.

I assume its nothing to worry about. If you mark the coin cases only an incompetent grader would not put the coins back in the exact same cases they came from. ANACS is better than that :)

I don't think that is the case, I understand what your saying, but I put the coins in something like this to send...
http://www.pmcash.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=2387?osCsid=239mh739vm9a2ku6iatdib5ee4
which I mark and correspond to a line on the sheet I send with it.
Then it is graded and put into their plastic case, which I am not sure if that is marked so that I can distinguish which coin is which once they arrive back to me?

I see this as a potential problem.  No disrespect to you DebitMe, but if the coins do not all come back with the same grade you are going to have some people who make accusations regardless of what precautions you take.  I am not aware of any method to identify a particular one of these coins.  They do not have a serial number or even a run number.

If anyone can lend claim to them coming back marked somehow that allows me to identify which coins are which line on the submitted sheet, then it should be fine.  Of course someone will complain, someone always does, but they can bitch and whine all they want, they will get what they get (assuming a way to identify them is used and I go through with doing this), if someone cannot lend credit or ANACS does not respond and tell me that they are marked on return, then I will not go through with this for that reason.

I know people will make accusations regardless, but I really don't care at that point.  I am a very high outstanding member here and I doubt the baseless accusations of a single individual will carry much weight.  Either way, doesn't matter if I don't get answers to my questions.

Potentially the first of these coins to enter the secondary/resale market?

The auction starts at $135 with a buy-it-now price of $175.

What do you think?

Guess we'll have to wait.
The guy could have also artificially set the market price by setting a higher BIN and chancing it.
You'd need more than one to be sold to determine a true market price.

Potentially the first of these coins to enter the secondary/resale market?

The auction starts at $135 with a buy-it-now price of $175.

What do you think?

BIN of $160

There have been a few that have crossed ebay.

I haven't seen anything for crazy money. I've seen a couple at 0.4 BTC. I paid 0.3 something from the site when the price was higher. It'll be interesting to see whether they're venerated in the years to come.

As sais like a 30%-40% above original price. It would have been some easy money :/

I sold 3 for a total of 1.5 BTC a little over a week ago. Probably could have got more if I waited or shipped outside the US. I remember seeing a 0.6 offer

I think this will come as good news to everyone who has bought these:  Total circulation drastically dropped - I scrapped about 1,150 of them (out of the initial 2,000 produced) due to being unhappy with the quality and they will not be remade except perhaps as a different future coin.  (anything that looked like the uglies posted in this thread in my possession is no longer...)

I kept only the best ones.

Anyone who bought a crappy quality one (scratches or gold spills) PM me for an offer to get a better one.  (and I'm slow like usual BTW, I sit down and do coin related stuff only on occasion at the present)

Hey Mike,

That is a really nice offer you have there. My coin looks good so I don't need to exchange it, but it's good to hear that you are willing to exchange ugly ones.

Also very pleased to hear from someone who only bought the one  ;D

I added some of the other logo'd stuff they sold and have a cool thing to commemorate this auspicious game.
