I am using this forum for more than 4 hours. I am rather reading posts and topics. But I am almost always unable to reply.

Forum rules and guidelines should be more easily accessible amongst the main topic categories.

it's a great idea to have this system in place.. however, the rules should have been more clear I literally had to hunt it down.

I have spent 4 hours online and have made over 5 posts. After 6 posts (one new topic and 5 replies) and 5 hours I have not been promoted yet. Have I understood these rules correctly? What I should do?

There is a lag time in some cases. Today there seems to be a bigger lag. Perhaps it is related to the server being moved to a new box today??

You don't need to be able to post to Slush's thread to have your question answered.  All you have to do is take a few seconds to actually read Slush's thread:

That's a decision you'll have to make for yourself based on how much you trust Slush to follow through and actually "calculate all the blocks that have been found since the attack and everyone will get credited what they are owed."

The real pity is that so many people are incapable of asking serious questions in the Newbie forum.  There is no need to "write some nonsense before some serious questions", there are just an awful lot of people who seem to think that posting spam instead of engaging in useful intelligent discussion is a good use of their newbie status.

Personally, I'd love to see a rule that states that if you ask how long until you can post elsewhere or all 5 of your first posts are useless spam, then you are automatically locked in a "Newbie Spammer" subforum for an extra 4 hours and until you manage to write 5 reasonable posts.

nothing stopping you from posting important things in the newbe forum. you may get a better response there because the people watching it are a bit more understanding about answering the same questions over and over.

I have to say, that I don´t like the rules as well as a "new member".
But it might have reasonable reasons regarding the hugh amount of spammers. Anyway maybe there are better solutions to prevent the board from spammers.

I don't remember seeing this until today.  It's probably been added recently due to issues from US customers and such a high demand with current prices.  Sorry to hear about your situation.

Very annoying rule. It should be mentioned somewhere right after registration process. I spent a lot of time figuring out how to write posts and found up the explanation on stackexchange.com finally.

i cannot see why this system should prevent any troll of doing the same procedure as normal user would do to unlock the reply stuff. well. idc.

anyway you should at least make this procedure more clear to newbies! Right after the registration process there should be a hint or even better an email, that explains these restrictions.

I get why the system's in place but I think it's really strict, maybe half the time and lessen the amount of posts because I think it's kind of ridiculous.

So unless this is wrong, or has been increased; then the only post I should need is this one before being able to post to other areas in the next +4 hours.

In any case my reasons for signing up are to participate in the threads under the alt section, and additionally get free alt-coins where possible.

I've been mining XPM for the past week, which is rather slow; but also interested in other unique crypto-currencies.

I was confused at first too. I think we need a forced redirect to the thread describing these restrictions before allowing general forum access. I see other boards do this with no problems, I think it's a relatively simple script.

So, I get to create my first post in the newbie section.

I hope this serves as proof to the admin that I'm not a bot. Just hope in the next 4 hours my batteries don't fully deplete.

Log-in, searches and attempted searches count. You need to wait 6 minutes after each of these whilst you're a newbie.

I hope this post will enable me to post outside the newbies section.  It is going to run on a bit pointlessly in order to meet the "substantial" requirement I read about.  Unfortunately I spent 4 hours browsing before making my first post as I didn't think I was able to post at all -- I didn't realize that I could post in the newbies section.  So, now I'm wondering if I have to wait another 4 hours or if I will be able to post based on my previous logged in time accumulation.

This substantial post and 4 hour wait is a bit frustrating, but I guess it is worth it to cut down on spam.

Ok, and about the "substantial" who will be judging that? That's kind of fuzzy and rather subjective? Restrictions like this are rather annoying to be honest. Rules should at least be clear in my opionion.

That should be more than enough. Just be careful who you trust on here. There's a lot of scammers. Always use escrow.

Thanks for the reply... I just minded a load of digibytes.... got in there quick and got like 10K on first few blocks.

However, apparently the pool was hacked and some thief logged in under my name &took all my coins :( So I can see there is plenty of scammers/hackers out there (although that was problem with the pool in question and nothing to do with bitcoin forum).

Sometimes these coins are just scamcoins and are inside jobs. Hard to trust anyone where there's money involved or to be made.

So is there anywhere I can see the 4 hour countdown until I can post? Or will I just suddenly see that I am able to post in other forums?

This doesnt make any sence for me, that you have to find a newbie topic and write some pointless text and wait a lot of time just to be able to post on the rest of the forum.
If there was some trolls that were making new accounts just to troll someone, wouldnt it be easier that you were able to make certain amount of accounts per IP?

Why doesn't it make sense? It's not just to keep trolls away. That IP would probably be banned if several people were trolling from it.

Yeah, it's a bit annoying as a newly signed up member that I can't reply to the thread that I signed up to reply to immediately, but I guess I understand the idea. It is kind of silly in a way, but hey, whatever floats the moderators boats I guess ;D
