I think price can be a distraction and is not a measure of success. Ever since the speculators showed up there has been a greedy streak in the community that drives the bubbles. People who don't really care about bitcoin, they want dollars. I'm not against it. I don't think it matters what we do. Adoption is how many places I can spend my coins, IMO. That's all I look at.

True, we should innovate and get more users to use BTC but it is also about it being an investment.  It has to be viewed as an investment when it is unstable compared to the USD and the Euro.

those who focus on bitcoin price and those who focus on services are in symbiotic life, one cant exist without the other.
without profits there would be no development, and without development there would be no money in either.
one could say that bitcoin now needs more development and clear laws than it needs higher price, so if thats what u were trying to say, i fully agree with you.

I care. Well for one, it is important for people how much their investment or holdings are worth - whoever denies that most probably just wants to sound enlightened, but that's not how humans work, and it's also an important factor for people getting to know Bitcoin. Every bubble has also brought a huge wave of people adopting Bitcoin, and this is important still!

Everybody cares about the price.

For me it matters, I always want to know Bitcoin price in the coming days.

Spoken like a man who doesn't have many bitcoins to his name.

Anyone holding a substantial amount cares about the price.

Well if you have a precious space rock that costs 500 $ a gram . It can be used to make the most solid walls and has magical powers. Next day you get information that 100 Miles square mile mine has been found, which is more than the amount of Silver on the planet. Now will you sell that rock before the price crashes or will you keep it for the innovative uses it has ?
Now imagine someone holding 1000's of those rocks. What would he do ?

if you bought euros and then went abroad to spend them and found they'd suddenly lost half their value would you be telling your friends "everything is fine euros still work because you can still spend them" ?

price matters because for those who aren't millionaire early adopters who got their coins practically for free, if we bought $1,000 worth of btc, we expect at the very least to still have that same $1,000 worth of purchasing power a few months down the line and if this doesn't hold true, there is little incentive for anyone to buy and hold btc

Bitcoins shouldn't just be a concept, it should be practical.

The price volatility is a huge attraction for many people and although I'd prefer much more stability, its about what is best for the community. When prices stagnate as they have recently there is a lot less appeal for investors and big money backers.

I bet everyone who hold bitcoin and use it care about price. This low price now looks manipulated by exchanges, whales and sure some early addopters who have lot of coins but price is undervaluated now and soon there will be up trend again.

Everybody cares about the price, because bitcoin is a mean of payment. Without value it wouldnt make any sense.

And the ones who dont care, already cashed out big and dont have to care about the price ....

We are not in this for fun only , though it is fun and good education but the real reason has been always money

Price is important.

The problem is the price can change at any moment.
That is why a lot of people dont like using it or holding it.

And specificly stores that should start accepting it is taking a risk of losing 10%-30% of the value they earned so they wont profit.

That is why people are afraid.

I have plenty of time.
I hope one day the price will be again above the 1000 dollar.
You never know, maybe it will never arrive there again.

But sadly, most of the users of bitcoin care about easy money. Only a few really care about the innovating technologies and services that bitcoin may bring.

Bitcoin's price is definitely important as it is used as a form of payment, like fiat. Sure though, we can always say that innovations are far important than the price, but we couldn't lie to ourselves that price is also a great factor that's why there are people who use it.

That is what everyone agrees to but fails to admit it .
The price always matter. The only time I could see it not matter is when you only buy when you have to use it, and sell it when you dont.

in the current conjecture, it is hard to believe that we will see bitcoin worth $ 1,000 again or more. But we can well believe that we will have the bitcoin worth between 400 and 500 US dollars in the next two years.

I agree, nowadays I check the price maybe once every 2 or 3 days. The tech is what really matters.

Bitcoin is a currency, why we should not care about it?

The price is something to care about but its not the only thing . Bitcoin price was once around 13$ but it passed that and still alive

The Price is very important, why would anyone bother to invest on bitcoins without thinking about its price in the first place? Features and benefits wise as well thats why the chinese pumped it up last 2013.

I care about the price. However not as much as I care about how Bitcoin future is going to be like. I'm looking to see a merchant with a static (fixed) price in Bitcoin. All I see is dynamic (changes as the price fall or rise) price.

Yeah, try that to tell the rest of others here. Most people are actually obsessed with price. They hope one day when the price goes up, they can exchange their bitcoin back to that paper fiat and hang on to it. And question here is where is the true spirit of bitcoin holder and believer? If you are 1 bitcoin will always be 1 bitcoin.

I'm earning my bitcoin and after that I cash out my bitcoin balance to my bank account through paypal.
This money really helps me each month so I'm very concerned about bitcoin price.

Innovating is one thing, caring about price/value is other thing.
When I'm focusing on building a nice hi-fi system at home I still need to notice whether the roof is leaky.

I couldn't care less about price anymore. I'd use Bitcoin no matter what the price is or the legal status is. The more I see govt entities crap on decent people like Bryan by raiding people's homes the more committed I am to using it whenever I can. Bitcoin is pissing off the U.S. Gov. That's enough reason to use it for me. Bitcoin has the same utility regardless of the price.

I use Bitcoin to make payments nearly everyday. I convert my fiat to BTC to make the payments. From that view the price is not important to me.

It's a different story for my coins that I have for trading purposes. Here I do care about the price for obvious reasons.

My cold wallet coins will stay offline in my wallet for years. I don't care what the price is now as I don't plan to do anything with them.

They are welcome but those who push Bitcoin more are those who are here to innovate and truly believe in Bitcoin.

I do care about the price, as I'm planning to buy stuff with my bitcoin and the better the price the more I can buy. I'm not here to become a part of the movement, nor for the ideology, freedom, anarchy or whatever. I also don't want to collect coins and give them to my children. 

For the true Bitcoiner. The person who gets paid in BTC and know how special it is. You know about Bitcoin in one day and said, "It will change everything!" Someone who has a business Bitcoin, and see it as a "Money Future". For you, Bitcoin is the Internet 2.0. You will feel disappointed not because of falling prices Bitcoin? So you don't care about bitcoin price at all? I seriously doubt that if 1 bitcoin would cost less than 1 dollar you would be here. Do  not get me wrong, you may be bitcoin enthusiast but at this point everybody should care about bitcoin price as it is the most defining factor of any currency.

The price of Bitcoin needs to be high enough for people to be able to store and move millions of dollars and for enough miners to operate for the network to be secure.

I don't think the price matters that much. Everything is quantitative anyway. Does it really matter if you sell 1 million bitcoins for a dollar.
The point is you are still transfering money P2P.

Yes i am afraid it does matter if you sell 1 million bitcoins for $1, how will miners pay for electricity, equipment, wear and tear, time, etc etc how will you be able to pay for a $20 for a game if there is only $13  worth of bitcoin, how would exchanges stay up. The list is endless why it needs to be at a certain level mainly for the miners to keep up there good work alot of people take for granted. I personally am not to fussed about the price in recent months i figure what will be will be there is not much we can do either way and if we have invested what we can afford to lose it matters even less, plus will be a pretty cool surprise if it rockets.

Probably you should consider keeping a small portion (which you can afford) and leave it as it is without ever looking at the price. Who knows what the future holds some day. If by any chance it does grow big some day, bitcoin is not going to be cheap anymore and by then, at least you will have some sizeable stash along with you.

Half of people are teenagers and this money really helps them and leaving something just ain't a choice ;)

You are probably right but right now I have no choice but to cash out my bitcoin for real money.
I will try to change this strategy soon and keep some amount for later.

I am sure most of the people care about the price. After all its a form of money and you can notjust afford to lose it.
