1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Idena is the first Proof-of-Person Blockchain on: August 29, 2022, 06:01:32 PM
In discord, one person is selling his Doge to buy and stake Idena.

Take that Elon.  Cool

Any news regarding hyperscale?

Nope. But article that focuses on expanded roadmap is out, very nice

Idena improvement proposal 2
IIP-2: Change the time of validation ceremony

Do you agree to change the time of the validation ceremony from 13:30 UTC to 15:00 UTC?
(Oracle voting is ending on Feb 15th 2022)

Motivation: this proposal is aimed to make the time of the validation ceremony more convenient for people located in the US. There's a lot of active crypto users in the western part of the US. Now they have validation at 5:30 AM which is very inconvenient. That is a major limiting factor for the adoption of Idena in the US.

New validation time for different time zones:

- GMT 15:00
- San Francisco, USA 7:00
- New York, USA 11:00
- Tunis, Tunisia 16:00
- Berlin, Germany 16:00
- Moscow, Russia 18:00
- Delhi, India 20:30
- Jakarta, Indonesia 22:00
- Beijing, China 23:00
- Sydney, Australia 01:00 + 1 day
- Auckland, New Zealand 03:00 + 1 day
- Honolulu, Hawaii, USA 05:00 + 1 day

is there any new change in the time limit for the invite code?
Now I try to create code, but I got the message that it is expired, is it possible? Or I am doing something wrong.
it looks like I'm lying to people that I'll give them an invitation.

That message is just visual bug, you can freely send that invitation to your candidate.

Anyone knows the best summary of how this all works? And how I can potentially earn from it?  Is it pretty much, Proof-of-KYC? Or is there more to it?

There is no KYC.
Create account on app.idena.io
Do training validation to see how it works and that's it.

whether validation will now be exclusively on Saturdays?
if it is intentionally set to be only on Saturdays because of those who are busy on weekdays, Isn't Saturday a day to travel and rest from online things?
I hope this is only temporary.

It's set to Saturday I'm afraid. Also, you can login to your idena account on your mobile phone and solve validation on the go.

Have they updated validation times to accommodate people who work labor intensive jobs that have not been able to join the network yet? I am really intrigued by this project, but as I work with heavy machinery all day, I have not been able to go through the validation process for 6 months now due to the small time window. I believe if this project wants to grow it needs to have something like staggered time windows or something allowing even more people to join and solidify the network.

Validation is now, every third Saturday at 13:30 UTC

Looks like we at @humanetics_ are going to have a busy 2022.

I spend my first 40 epochs trying to max out invitation rewards. I was educating, reminding 1 day before validation, reminding 1h before validation ... even begging not to waste my invitation. Nothing helped me to exceed 20% success rate. Now I don't care. I'm not inviting anyone. I just grab unused invitation rewards. Especially now, when price is stable and network is not growing. When price will pump, mining reward will pump too, people will take care about mining more than now so they will care more about not wasting m invitations. Thats when I'll come back to send them.

I hate to be bearer of bad news, but unused invitation rewards do not exist for few months now.
You can always send invites to me in pm (or by registering on idena.site) and when some good candidate comes along, I will hand them out. I ask them for training certificate and give them suggestions on how to setup their pc.
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Idena is the first Proof-of-Person Blockchain on: November 05, 2021, 09:28:33 AM
I understand that if I do not implement the invites that I have before the hard fork, I will lose my reward or my invites will not be available for issuance? Why was the dependence of the issuance of invites made on the time of their issuance?

Bug will be fixed with new version. You don't need to wait for a new version to issue an invitation, issue it as soon as you want.

Why do you get more reward if you issue invitation early? Here is an article that explains that

In my oppinion, it's a sucky 1 2 3 4 progression flip without a story. At least it is relevant to its keywords. Smiley
In my book it's worthy of report because it's not AI hard.

Good luck to everyone who will attend the first sharded validation ever Smiley

Let me share with you strategies for:

Finding good candidate:
- Ask him for validation training certificate
https://idena.site/faq/how-to-try-out-idena-training-valdiation

- After he learns about validation, ask him how is he planning on doing valdiation, Web app or Desktop app?
And offer him link for suggestions about the app of his choosing
https://idena.site/faq/web-app
https://idena.site/faq/desktop-app

I will update suggestions on these links as time goes on to be better, if you have something to add, feel free to contact me.

As for people looking for invitation code:
- Get your validation training certificate
https://idena.site/faq/how-to-try-out-idena-training-valdiation
- Make sure you get good scores, you can train multiple times, and share your certificate link in invitation sharing group
https://t.me/Idenacodes

You will be contacted and you will most likely get invitation very fast.

doesnt pi.network rely on the same principle?

Yes, exactly the same. I've heard Idena is fork of Pi.
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Idena is the first Proof-of-Person Blockchain on: October 16, 2021, 02:25:51 PM
No, it's not a laptop. I didn't notice any slowdown due to the hardware. Its PC is used only for periodically running few wallets and for backing up personal files. even most of the time it is turned off.
the same configuration worked for several months, without major problems.
although it often happened that flip keywords in the validation period were not loaded, which can be frustrating.

Both your PC and internet connection are great. But I have no idea what would cause node to restart in your case. I have never seen this kind of behaviour.
In any case, next validation should be way easier for everyone, since network has split into shards for validation transactions. That means your node will not communicate as much as before and it should go more smoother.

For that part, "words not loading" it's not up to you, nothing you can do about it but try to wait if the words will load. What causes words not to load? People who run node on bad pc or bad connection, their node loses connection to the network and node is not able to send decryption keys to you so their flip words can be shown to you.
By waiting, you are waiting for a chance if that someone will be able to reconnect their node and it will try to send you decryption keys again.

Well, with an increasing number of validators, the network becomes significantly weaker and more unstable. Today, just 5 minutes before validation, my node going to be unsynced and offline with zero blocks remaining. there was no chance of passing the validation with him.
Now it's suspended, what to do with them? Can I withdraw the locked balance from the stake, or I can only to delete everything and start over?

Thanks for the node log.

Your node lost connection during flip lottery
INFO [10-11|13:26:39.561] Peers are not found. Assume node is synchronized component=downloader
INFO [10-11|13:26:39.562] Flip lottery calculations started
INFO [10-11|13:26:44.562] Peers are not found. Assume node is synchronized component=downloader

Then restarted 2 times, first time on validation start
INFO [10-11|13:29:31.122] Idena node is starting                   version=0.27.2

And second time 18 min after validation started
INFO [10-11|13:48:41.085] Idena node is starting                   version=0.27.2

Here are suggestions for running Desktop App with built-in node:
  • Check your internet connection quality here. If your connection is graded A or B, you have good connection. If it's C or worse, it is bad. If you are connected via Wi-Fi, try connecting using LAN cable and check connection again. If your connection is still bad, you MUST use Web App for validation.
  • If you are using Windows OS, you must install free software NetTime which will keep your clock in perfect syncronisation which is important for validation.
  • Make sure you turn off any other aplication that are using internet.
  • Do not use Wi-Fi, connect your PC with LAN cable.

Lost peers would be explained by bad internet connection. Node restart would be explained by low ram or slow cpu.
Where did you run your node? What are it's specifications?
Please do that connection test and share it's results.

No need to do anything. Just validate on next validation and you are back in the game. This was the limit of the network but I would like to analyze your node log file to see what caused the problem, so I can give you some advices on how to maybe setup things better or what to consider.
Consider this as vacation as you don't need to make flips for next validation Smiley

Also, next validation should be easier on the nodes and network, since now network had separated to 4 shards! My node is in shard 1.

Please PM me if you want me to troubleshoot your validation problem.
We (mostly Hugo Cheesy) are solving these validation problems over on Github discussion

Big part of what makes Idena great in my opinion is verification without any form of KYC. Also, there is other project which is maybe closer to what you are proposing with IP's, nyzo.io

Idena verifies that a person is participating, and it makes the 'work' of each of those people financially equal, but the thing that stands out is that the 'work' is non productive, as with bitcoin.

You can verify that a person is 'mining' by either having them do productive or unproductive work.

At some point people will develop scripts or bots to do whatever a 'human centric' coin will do.

And it is better to have those hackers or bot makers develop scripts to imitate productive work rather than unproductive.

If you found a way to have idena miners verify their presence by doing some human work along the lines of primecoin or gridcoin you would become the number one coin, maybe ahead of bitcoin, until you got copied and cloned to second place.

I love your take on productive/unproductive part of current Idena process. For now no one came up with better idea on how to secure Proof-Of-Person network. Let's hope that as Idena reaches more people and grow in popularity, new bright ideas will come which could turn this process around to 100% productive in every way possible. That would be truly incredible.
