So Bitcoin may indeed be "worse", but only for those who don't have any.
Unless you have a specific price at which point you are going to cash out, you will be in exactly the same position as those you now scorn. It's not a question of if, just when. BitCoin's cool, but human greed exceeds everything in existence. |

Maybe somebody else can.” The man who was the most wrong about everything in economics with the possible exception of every other Fed chief says Bitcoin is a bubble and has no intrinsic value. We must be on to something here. So if Greenspan is wrong about everything else, that automatically disqualifies him as giving a valid opinion on BitCoin? What if he is right, have you considered that, or does that not fit in with your worldview? |

IMO, this is exactly why BitCoin hasn't hit primetime yet - volatility. Sure, greater use/adoption might ameliorate this and make it more stable, but it's always going to play second fiddle to the USD or any other mainstream currency for as long as this type of volatility exists.
This is why I "hate" BitCoin, not because I don't see its value once it's massively adopted. Its current rollercoaster trending is making me dizzy.

No one is really doing this. It's all a ruse. Lies playing on the theater of fear to try to frame the debate and generate a desired response. Don't fall for it. not necessarily true. but bernanke is going to be irrelevant by next year He's retiring? not really...but people here do have a tendency to talk nonsense. |

Since they have stopped issuing refunds it certainly appears to me (IANAL) they are at least breaking FTC regulations. Could you provide us with names of people who have ordered, paid, asked for a refund and did not get it? I've ordered a unit from BFL so this keenly interests me. |

If relegating bitcoin to a low cost paypal is going to "destroy" it, then ripple's already done that (aside of the 'small matter' of it being closed source).
the point of bitcoin to everyone who portrays him or herself as "anti-stablishment", "anarcho-libertarian" or whatever moniker you wish to use is that you are able to wield an order of magnitude more anonymous purchasing power than cash, at very large distances... for purposes that require ultimate personal responsibility - the libertarian pipe dream, so to speak.
the problem is, which government partially solves only, people will do -anything- to avoid being held responsible.
last but not least, responsibility outside of a morally imperative context, does not compute.

They have machines which make your Avalon look like a Casio watch from 1980. Sorry for the downer, and hey at least Bitcoins have bounced back a little today. But to me this seems to be by far the biggest threat to Bitcoin and all the altcoins. Sorry if this has been posted or discussed here before, I did a quick search but didnt find much. thank you for stating this all-too-important truth. the more things change, the more they stay the same, or so they say... human beings, i.e. the ontology of being human has never altered and never will - unless we become something other than human beings. What's more likely is that Bitcoin will initiate a libertarian transformation of our government and get us back to how the original republic used to be, and hopefully drive personal responsibility to its maximum and reduce government interference in our personal lives down to a minimum. I.e. gun ownership will increase, illegal drugs will become legal - things that are happening on a minuscule scale right now will grow by leaps and bounds. None of this will prevent humans from becoming greedy gluttons, liars, adulterers or even rapists or murderers - which is why government always will exist for as long as human beings exist. Think of BitCoin as trimming the fat off government and creating a lean government in the final analysis, and increasing personal responsibility/morality in people like nothing else has so far. It's a long way in the making, but once BitCoin is brought into the mainstream and tied to the powerbase - and it will be, that is exactly what's going to happen. |
