You may have problems with temperatures on those cards (ok not on the 6990...), that might make you turn the oc down -> less MH/s. Also since you want single slot I assume you only have one slot free i.e. these cards will suffocate even more. the only good solution is a WC loop.

Same with the developers' G1, its so much more expensive. But I doubt OP wants that' they want android instead of the iPhone so probably not a developer.

This keeps getting spewed around because its true for most people. For the price of one 6990 without a new system, I can get an entire pc with 3 5850s that have better cooling and 50% higher hash rate. Thats only for the 6990 (580 euros minimum). It doesn't matter how many spare slots you have on your mobo, at 750MH for 580 euros, it simply cannot be justified. At all. Not even by power consumption. If you are considering spending 600 euros on mining equipment, I suggest spending 50 more, and buying 2 mobos, psus, cpus, hdds, and 4 5830s or 3 5850s and get 50% more hash rate at only 50% more power consumption.

Also consider noise. If you put a 6990 in your living room/pc room/bedroom, it becomes uninhabitable. A separate rig can be put into your basement or an unused room. Heat generation can also be a problem. My 2 rigs are in a guest room with full open windows 24/7. 3 5830s and a 6950 mining 24/7 generate around 35C ambient in the room, with outdoor temp around 20C. I don't care because I'm not there, but back when it was in my room it used to be really hot.

If you're unlucky, you will permanently brick it (thats where the bios switch saves the day). But since it won't work, there's no point trying. Most of the time though, you will be able to reflash it.

I'd say buy in, but start small. You say you have a gaming rig, then why do you need an 890fx board? If you want to use it as a pure miner, buy a VERY cheap mobo with 2 pcie slots or even 1 x16 and 1 x1. get a sempron 140, you dont need a dual core. And unless you care about your power consumption, don't get a 5770, get a 5830 or even 6950 (in the US 58xx seem to be rare I hear). You could also consider getting a second hand 775 board with a pentium, or 939/AM2 board. Worst case, you will lose much less than with your setup.

Otherwise, you could build a gaming rig with good mining GPUs, mine for a bit and then sell it to a gamer for good cash and little loss...

Its no problem, takes about 1 minute. If you know what connections are required, you can DIY it, but I'd recommend getting one of those adapters for the 20/24pin lead.

What do you mean? My two-chips-on-two-cards (5830+6950) cost 1/2 of a 6990 and give more MH/s, less heat, less noise, less power use. ok they use 2 pcie slots, but for the difference in price I can get an entire new mobo+cpu+ram setup...

OP: in short, there's no such comparison for complete systems. You dont need a good cpu for mining, nor ram/video ram. You even downclock video ram to give less heat... It looks like the # of shader units determines the hash rates (and then the core speed of course).

Try to add up costs, and find whats best for you based on hardware prices/electricity cost. I don't care about electricity costs, so I run 3x5830s and a shader unlocked 6950. If you do, consider getting 5770s; they're the best in MH/joule. PSU is scaled to your PC needs. I have found that the best system for me is a small 2 slot mobo for 55 euros, sempron 140, 2gb ram, and 500W antec psu with 2 5830s.

If you wanna run a bigger system, check the prices of psus vs. watts they deliver. I really recommend using multiple psus (if you're running without a case), its no hassle to set up only takes 1 minute, and can be scaled better. Plus, most of the time, its cheaper at >900W.

Here 1gb 6950s (the unlockable ones) go for just under 200 euros, reference ones 220 (99% of those can be unlocked). You are asking for 225 euros (including shipping) at current BTC price. just sayin'...

You don't have a bios switch right?
Once you're confident enough that you know what you're doing, dump your bios, make about 15 backup copies, modify it with RBE, and pray that you can flash it back. Or, even better, see if you can find an already modded, working bios for YOUR SPECIFIC CARD on a forum.

Should be fine. Depending on what the other components are, but with a 95W CPU and other stuff your 100% load will be ~350W at most. Remember while you're mining, the CPU isn't at 100%, or if its a sempron, it will only pull 45W. I think you'd even be able to put catalyst power control to +20...

First off, I LOVE your program! switched from guiminer and never looked back.
I have a problem with OC settings though, both with catalyst set to startup or not, aoclbf won't retain or apply OC settings (at startup).
Its a great tool for OCing, especially since I'm running a 6950 and a 5830 in one machine and have had loads of problems with the setup, until you added the GPU settings tab... hewever even when I get a stable OC manually set in aoclbf, apply and accept "set clocks on startup" box, it won't apply on a PC restart.
I'm running 1.71 btw.

I used to use deepbit but then switched to BTCMine, and finally bitcoins.lc. They are the best so far, the interface is great, size around 400GH/s, 0%fees, no payout confirmation period, very accurate MH/s estimations for all miners, they will also soon add buying and selling capabilities. At the moment, miners still have auto generated names/passwords, but that is going to change soon too.

I think that is more down to the people's ignorance on the matter of bitcoins. I mean you can't blame them, it took me a while too to figure out why I am getting money for running my GPU at 100%. What you can blame them for is spreading information they are not certain about or have not received confirmation on. Look at the original article with Schumer and the other senator. It said bitcoin is "untraceable" so now all these anti-bitcoin idiots keeping repeating that although its not even close to being true, or is taken out of context.

I do not see how this is applicable to the hardcore bitcoin people. They are in this because they reject the mainstream media's and the government's (same thing btw) propaganda and brainwashing, not in order to earn a quick buck. search hardwareschotte.de for 5830. The cheapest one is 88.20 or something, but only if you are referred by the price comparison site. Shipping is also dirt cheap at 3.90 per shipment (not per card!!).

Because tradehill has what 15 transactions an hour? Mt.Gox has that in 10 seconds. They're simply not keeping up with the price.

Corsair 850TX might work but don't bet on it, XFX 850W Pro Core will work I think. Otherwise you'd be looking into much higher power PSUs, and terrible value for money. I'd suggest staying with the PSU you have now, and getting a cheap additional 400W to power two cards. Unless of course you're looking to expand operations in the near future and would like to keep your current psu for that, then go for the XFX. Here in Europe its about 100 euros, I think I saw it on Newegg for 139.99 at some point.

You couldn't have seen the 6990x2, since it doesn't exist. 6990's are NOT good for mining in terms of euro/MHash or euro/Watt, especially for you, OP. In your situation, I would go for a 5830, you could crossfire it with your 5850 for gaming, and it would be the best value for money you can get. Where are you located, I might be able to help you with prices. I just got 3 5830's in Holland, but there's even better prices in France, Germany/Austria, etc.
