1  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A man is unable to collect his price cos he forget where he bought the ticket. on: June 15, 2024, 09:58:44 PM
I noticed on the news that a man won a lottery and when he arrived to claim his prize, he was requested to state or provide information about where he purchased the lottery ticket, which he couldn't do because he didn't know where he obtained it. It drew my interest, and I wondered if forum users could still tell where they purchased all of their lottery tickets in the previous six months (For those who still engage if physical tickets).
That's not possible!!! What sort of extension games would take 6 months to be settled? It's either you just made up the duration or the storyline isn't just correct.

The man isn't supposed to be denied his winnings as long as he produced a ticket for accountability in the same casino house as he wagered. Unless they have a different rule in land-based casinos in their region, the casino is supposed to be sued for the delay..
Secondly, an accounts is linked to atleast 4 cashiers in a casino house. If you wagered with any of those cashiers, your winning will be paid directly to the admin account SO, YOU CAN'T BE PAID ANYWHERE ELSE!!
2  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Casino/gambling center near an institution of learning? on: June 15, 2024, 09:54:11 PM
Do you think having a casino or any gambling center close to an institution of learning, will influence the students somehow or should I say be a positive or negative reinforcement on them, in anyway?
Thoughts?
it does beyond what you call "negative reinforcement" ... It kills dream. The whole drama sets out when he begins to get curious and ask questions; In the course of doing this, he'll definitely have an answer to most of his questions; It especially affects children leaving in the hood as almost all practicable habits aren't omitted.

On the other hand, "you could force a horse to a river, but you can't force it drink water". No matter how strong the influence is, it can't affect them all.. what about the odds? I believe every casino's super agent and some team of administrators go around to inspect a site before endorcement so, there's a little chance of that happening.
3  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The real winning of gambling is withdrawals on: June 15, 2024, 09:34:16 PM
Whenever I win, I usually feel this strong urge to gamble more and also increase the amount I'm using to gamble. I do fall for this urge most times and the result is always disastrous as I end up losing the money I won with great pain and regrets. The only time I can say I have won is when I make withdrawals and possibly use the money for something else. As long as the money is still in the platform, there is a high chance of using it to gamble more.
Do you know what your problem is? You lack self discipline as a gambler and, that proves insubordination over professinalism. If there's any thing else that ruins a person's ambition in gambling quickly, it'll certainly be indiscipline. I'm not even sure you have a stipulated bankroll to wager with, for every game; That's obviously the reason why you decided to increase your stakes with the previous winning.

If there's no possible ways of getting the cash into your account after the winning is confirmed, stay away from the site! It's actually hard, but that's one of the most effective ways to conquer it.
I've known several gamblers that will ask to be paid a winning ticket only to gamble away everything and sometimes, get indebted to the casino house.
4  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Patience can help alot on: June 15, 2024, 09:15:28 PM
The game of gambling isn't something that people with low patience can survive be it the different types of gambling @sports betting  @casino games like dice and slots, patience is still the key to survive. Sometimes anxiousness and anxiety can make a gambler take decision that he might end up regretting.
Other times, "the best form of defence is attack".. your anxiety can save the day and you'd be left thanking your stars from not engaging a bet already.
Quote
I made a very wrong decision on a game I staked today and this is unlike me because I don't normally check on my games until its settled because sometimes you will tempted with some crazy things like cash-out which is what I did today and although you won't blame me to some extent but still if I was patient enough as the final results if the games came through and Instead of winning the whole money, I got only a fraction of the funds.
I still don't see that as a big miss... As long as nobody knew how the games would end, not even you, then the little cashout should be enough for the moment. Allow me to show you how greedy works; it creates an illusion in your mind, making you believe that what happened yesterday can possibly happen today and, you fall for it.. in most cases, your stakes may have increased too.
5  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What if you have a casino? on: June 15, 2024, 08:28:27 PM
The name of the business is opening a casino definitely wants to make a profit, while people who come to the casino to seek profit too, although not all, but focus on one object of people seeking profit.
If you were the owner of the casino, what would you think when people like that gamble at your place?
it took a little while, but I was able to understand your point..
You see, in the labour market, the employer pays for the whole labour. That reduces the stress of doing everything on his own, hence creating a pathway for more profits - Remember, "The higher the work force, the fewer the days to get the job done, the higher the profits too".
The above instance is applicable in the gambling industries today; there's definitely no way a casino would develop cold feet due to excessive, uncontrollable losses. It's always a win win for them.. it's quite an imbalance process of recovery for the casinos as you could wager $100 and win $35,000 at once... Have you realized how long it'll take them to recover everything they've lost if you're wagering at a $100 rate?
6  Other / Meta / Re: Storing the bitcointalk forum on a decentralized file system on: June 15, 2024, 07:50:12 PM
At very least, they can spare their storage to store this forum (since it's mostly about text) when they store at least 10PB of data[3].
It's though but, I thought about asking; how about the illustrative diagram/pictures and memes on important threads? I mean.... I know these pictures have already reduced quality - maybe about 100P of vertical resolution which consumes barely 250kb from the 10PB presumably...
* Is that going to be part of the storage problems we'll ever have in the future if we ever adopt a decentralized storage pattern?
* Since the transmission and regular update process will be way too slow, according to this quote, how do we regulate that to not go against our caches?
[...]the speed would be low. I'm not saying low speed when browsing, but rather when updating.

I see theymos and even Cyrus already saw that risk and eliminate it by that 'big decision' which surely does not satisfy all forum members but for forum future, eliminate that big risk is good.
That has only made me realize how much work it takes altogether to be at the top [it's lonely at the top]
7  Other / Meta / Re: Alternative accounts not prohibited but why there is no existing one? on: June 15, 2024, 06:40:19 PM
This has got me to ask, While I have read a passage stating that the "forum does not prohibit alternative account" but the accounts should not compromise the policies not the forum such as spamming and plagiarisms etc , why then has any of the forum members not indicated of having an alternative account in the forum?
Is that a fear as a course of being penalized or what even when there is a lawful backup on that?
Have you been able to spot out an alt that might likely belong to the same user and is violating the rules like you said? If yes, then you shouldn't hesitate to create a thread on the reputation board, with solid proves to the allegation. I don't even know how well you read the rules but, I believe you know exactly what you're asking.
If that's not the case, then Yes... We've got a couple of users that have known alts. Apocollapse listed a few to begin with; it kind of like create some curiosities in my mind that I can't help but ask,.. why did you have to ask about these?
[...]who you can't just know nothing here base on his contribution in the forum.
honestly, i was lost for a second... What were you tryna say here?
8  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can You Memorize Your Recovery Phrase? on: June 14, 2024, 09:59:00 PM
Just remembered that I have written the recovery seed phrase of my Electrum on a piece of paper somewhere in my place. I'm wondering what could go wrong since my place isn't too secured.  How about trying to memorize it? Is it possible?
How am I supposed to know this? It may be possible for me to memorize a whole text book, but that might not be the case to you. It's best that you find the most suitable ways to adapt to the system of being your own security.
Quote
Would you try?
What are the benefits? ... and the setbacks.
Yes... I'll definitely memorize them. Benefits? Well, that's just about you being on the safer side. The big setback is life itself; if anything happens and you lay down lifeless, that's the end!
Besides, if we talk about brain injury, depending on how serious a memory loss is you might even forget where you hid your private key or that bitcoin is all together!
In that case, it's pointless to be self-reliant . You've got kids? Teach the eldest amongst them and, show 'em.
9  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoins dominance over Real Estate in terms of profitability on: June 14, 2024, 09:48:44 PM
There are things they must know
  • Real estates have no caps, there will be more buildings built in future.
  • Price of real estate increases because of many things but basically because of population growth and fiat currency inflation.
  • Bad thing is real estate will be damaged with time
Also, time factor tends to support the realtors as different sites would appreciate in time, much more than the net profit in Bitcoin for the same period of time.
For the highlighted part, I have a question for you; Do you think that the value of assets will face a drastic reduction due to availability in the future? Coupled with the fact that we'll tend to have an increased population that'd need to have a roof to over their heads? Just asking though  Smiley
Bitcoin isn't compatible to real estate businesses.
I think while it is important to have exposure to Bitcoin to benefit from the birth of a new asset class, you should also be diversified and own things like real estate and stocks.
Diversification!  That's the word. As long as there's no harm in owing real estates and Bitcoin as well, why not?
10  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will increasing banking restrictions lead to a rise in P2P transactions? on: June 14, 2024, 09:24:50 PM
I keep reading about bank accounts in the UK, US and EU being frozen due to crypto associations. This is concerning me, and I am reluctant now to use any exchanges to purchase Bitcoin. However, I am happy to purchase crypto via P2P transactions. These can be either cash payments in a face-to-face meeting, or by bank transfer to a trusted person's personal account. Will this be the future of Bitcoin for us mere mortals, or will sanity prevail and allow us to return to using exchanges?
I don't really know how the banking systems work in America/Europe but I'm definitely gonna tell you how the restrictions are in my country; the local banks are out for transactions (especially p2p) that are labeled with words like "crypto", "BTC" and any sort of crypto related words.. it gets alot worse when you're trying to buy directly from your local bank.
You have not given your reasons why you don't like face to face trading of cryptocurrency...
I guess it's the usual reasons. The possibility of getting robbed or receiving fake bank notes fully or partially. You could also be followed home, which would reveal to scammers where you live. Luckily, I have only had positive examples with face-to-face deals, but I have heard horror stories that makes you think how smart it is to meet people you don't know, even in public. All I can say is, don't go unarmed and be willing to strike first if it comes to that.
lol... What happens in countries that aren't in support of people getting weaponized? ... you're out on the streets with a gun, then he tries to trick you and you blow off his head ? Jail time!
Instead, if I'm making a face to face deal, I can as well act wise by simply fixing a neutral ground; it could be a shopping mall or an eatery... After the deal, I'll stay back until you're gone completely.
11  Other / Meta / Re: Offensive names in the Forum on: June 14, 2024, 08:48:00 PM
See, I don't think it's a stupid username or a good one or clever or anything at all.  I wouldn't judge that person by what he chooses to call himself on the forum; I'd judge him on the quality of his posts and that's it.
I won't even judge them -- assuming Theymos decided to implement the KYC system and, they had their real name as "Adolf Hitler"... Isn't that gonna be more like making an entirely different person pay for the hitman's deceit because he's got an inherited name?
You can always ignore somebody that you don’t like or find offensive. If we could ban everybody that we found offensive or stupid, there wouldn’t be many people left on the internet.
Exactly! It could look unusual or a little bit frustrating atimes, but the reality is that these set of people can give a different vibe; I mean, just scrolling through, after making up a serious discussion and boommm., you're reading something that actually sounds funny and stupid at the same time.
12  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Parents on childs savings bank accounts are waste of time if not saving on BTC on: June 13, 2024, 09:59:27 PM
It's all about having a good technical exposure... If you never had an experience on how valuable it is to save up in bitcoin, you'd be in doubt too.. Or better still, such an idea won't even come on your mind.

"It's really hard to believe what you don't know" ; Just like we had some set of parents that HODLed Bitcoin and even staked some for their children before now because they were insightful, and some didn't, we'd definitely have those "dummy head" in our today society
Edit:
I still don't believe there are still people who still believe saving money in fixed deposits with banks is the right way of securing the future of their children considering how FIAT is losing its value rapidly as a result of inflation.
What would be the case for an average earner then? That makes alot of sense to say that - if you wanna invest, you gotta have enough and to spare already... And Yes, I love thinking outside the box
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Internet don't forget, many times Donald Trump says bad about Bitcoin on: June 13, 2024, 09:50:15 PM
I will never allow any sort of political propaganda to get over me.. cryptocurrencies became a threat to beginners from the moment some political raptors saw a loophole, and since they knew how much they'd make out of it, they began to pretend like they were curbing the situation... But in reality, they made alot of Money already.

Trump made a wild spin of his statement (like a boomerang), he tried to correct an already made impression...  Does the Internet forgets easily? No!  He could still get a couple of votes from US citizens as that was just one of his flaws.
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin not coin memecoin on: June 13, 2024, 08:39:02 PM
Do you read your own post?  Are you seriously going to invest based on what a random Bitcoin Talk user says?
Eh,. Why do you think he's being curious right now? He's read so many baseless FUD and he's decided to believe it for himself...
Quote
Do you believe Bitcoin has a chance at a better future?  Buy it.  Do you think Meme Coins are more important?  Buy them.  Even though it has been proved times and times that Meme Coins typically destroy the peoples Wealth instead of creating it.
We have a particular group of People that can't and will never be dependent of their own perceptive as to how they see things... They rather prefer being told what to do; one fascinating thing about these sets are that they'd rather choose to lose on cheap projects, instead of taking pains to understand a more genuine, but complicated project.
Bitcoin is a currency, not a stock, and that means it will go up if it has more adoption and will go down if it receives less adoption as in people leaving it).
The simplest definition that any layman would understand...
15  Other / Meta / Re: Non-Profit Forum Signatures Initiative on: June 13, 2024, 07:38:57 PM
That's a good one from pawal.
I've been in atleast one of those non-profit signature campaigns... Bitcoincleanup was really thing... Since it was about stoping/cleaning up the FUD and stupid lies that caused alot of stir and created pessimism in the whole bitcoin ecosystem. Unfortunately, I was in an active campaign - Trustdice.

However, since I had an intention of promoting one of those projects, peachbitcoin became a good option. Most accounts are temporarily out of campaigns; if we've got a thread to let them choose from it, then that's cool.
I never knew there was a campaign like this, honestly  Smiley
16  Other / Meta / Re: Small improvement regarding activity / "Show others your online status" on: June 13, 2024, 05:59:02 PM
Too bad he only gets merits, and not tens of thousands of bitcoins.  :/
Oh, too bad! Enhhh, but you just don't wanna make everyone needy of learning a programming language and basic coding skills - flooding meta with every form of patches you'd ever think of - should it ever be incentived.
Voluntary contribution is very respectable, but it wouldn't hurt if theymos opened up that dusty cold storage for the most dedicated contributor.  Smiley
Maybe we could try to make a separate topic about it? "If everyone speaks in one language", Theymos may listen.
Edit:
Then periods >72 hours, it should display something like Long time ago, and perhaps Long long time ago for periods exceeding certain time like a year or more.
okk.... I have a problem with the "long long time" thing.  It looks too clumsy and may most probably not contain a single line of word on our profile.
17  Other / Meta / Re: Does the No duplicate posting rule apply to this guy? on: June 12, 2024, 09:57:44 PM
Since the posts have different contents and they are not duplicate, the user in question isn't breaking rule number 12 regarding duplicate posts. But this doesn't mean the user isn't breaking any rule.
It definitely doesn't have the same content, but I'mma be real with you; the moment I realize you're trying to say too much, without even making any valid point, that's you going on my ignore list without hesitation...

How are they always able to convince people with those gibberish post?
If the user was still a newbie mods would have nuked them, if only someone had reported the posts earlier. Now the only action is to delete all the spam posts and keep an eye out for repeat of rule abuse. Maybe a ban down the road for repeated spamming.
That's exactly the reason why most newbies aren't spared at first sight... Seems like 97/100% are either a part of a large alt farm or an account created by someone that knows nothing about what happens in here.
18  Other / Meta / Re: Small improvement regarding activity / "Show others your online status" on: June 12, 2024, 09:44:38 PM
I may be asking for much, but wouldn't it be more appropriate if the user had the option to choose not to display any activity at all? For example, if you were inactive for 73 hours, display "(Not recently)" instead of "June 09, 2024, 08:40:33 PM". Or just "(Hidden)" regardless.

Someone might want to take a break without letting anyone know about it.
You see, i don't think the sole essence of the modification was to blur out the system entirely... I think it was more about blurring out the exact time a user is/has been online, thereby creating some level of pseudonymity - I may be wrong, but if it goes your own way, everyone knows you haven't been on - That doesn't really differ from what we had.

In this Case, Nobody knows precisely if you're online or not; The display word "recently" does a two-way job.. it could mean the user ain't active, it could mean they are...
19  Other / Meta / Re: Why are mod not locking long threads on the gambling board discussion anymore on: June 11, 2024, 09:49:23 PM
Some people will just enter the forum and read what someone on page 1 posted and quote it and what he will post at page 6 or 7 or more. What would have been posted repeatedly on page 1, 2, or 3. Some people will even be posting what they have posted before on another way.

Please after page 3, why not locking the thread again on gambling board? It may no be done for all threads, but moderators can easily see some threads to lock instead of repetitive posts.
Incessant spamming will never end in this forum.... I'd rather bet my account on this one; There's absolutely no perfect way to totally eradicate repetitive postings... Absolutely not! You wanna pronounce it as a punishable offense? They'll somehow get past that as well.

Shit has been happening in the gambling section; including the repetition of self-acclaimed, already discussed topics... Instances are like -- someone pops out of nowhere with this same old, exegerratedly repeated bizarre post - WTF is wrong with people creating threads about gambling addition?? C'mon!!  One person dare comes up with their own grammatical beautification, another follows suit... Sometimes, i don't even know what gambling discussions to post in..
20  Other / Meta / Re: Quoting from locked threads (SMF patch) on: June 11, 2024, 09:00:58 PM
Nice! It's a pretty self-contained patch, so I was able to add it fairly easily. I left a warning on the post page, though, since I don't think it was otherwise obvious enough what was going on.
it's a good thing that you implemented it without hesitation. To be honest, I haven't faced any challenges trying to quote from locked threads -- maybe that's because I haven't actually tried to.
For the warnings, I'd say - you didn't even have to bother yourself that much; a biggass padlock emoji on a thread, with the reply option missing is enough to tell me that I can only read through i.e if it's one of the old, intriguing sagas of the forum before/during lauda's epoch.
Unless you are a user very used to visiting a closed topic, it would take some time to notice the difference. We are used to seeing this button on all posts, and even though it has slight graphical differences, you wouldn't notice it the first time you pass by it, as you are used to seeing this button. Therefore, it makes sense that this alert/information was made.
This is also very true. The above point wasn't exactly like Charles' -- That he shouldn't have.
Bravo, Gloves!
