1  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: ATI 5870 Question on: March 01, 2012, 06:43:35 AM
I understand criticism but some people just really hate on one or the other. I love both macs and pcs. Windows is just glitchy and I'm not fond of it. And holy s*** does Microsoft really need to charge so much for their OS? On the other hand windows is good because you can build windows based systems with powerful hardware. But one thing is that people hate on macs for having inferior hardware but the thing is that macs are so efficient that an i5 on a mac can be superior to an i7 on a pc is most applications. And mac os x does a superb job in response time even with a mechanical hard drive which is not true of windows. People really need to learn their facts before they hate on stuff. I'm not hating on either as they both have their ups and downs. Also in all of my experiences Apple customer support has been amazing. I spilled coke on my first macbook pro and they gave me a brand new one out of the box (and I didn't have any kind of warranty). It's things like that that really make a difference. I would gladly spend more money knowing that I won't have to spend any more money in the future. But for desktops there is no denying that custom built windows systems are the way to go  Wink

And yeah MACS ARE PCS haha. Not sure how that separation ever started lol.

Personally I buy macbook pros. Much better than any pc laptop. The OS is flawless and utilizes resources much much better. Now for all these extras and mac pro desktops, etc... It's all bullshit and way too overpriced. But their operating system is far superior to any other in almost any other way. That is one thing people don't seem to give Apple.
3  Economy / Goods / Re: Great 1250 80+ Gold PSU deal at NewEgg on: March 01, 2012, 03:53:54 AM
I bought this power supply for $189.99 at my local store and have been mining on it 24/7 for a month now. No issues so far and very well built and pretty cheap.
4  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoins to USD on: February 29, 2012, 05:51:14 AM
How I do it:

1) mine coins
2) open Mt Gox trading account
3) open Dwolla account and tie it to a debit card
4) transfer mined coins to Mt Gox (few mins)
5) Sell coins at market price (few seconds or mins)
6)transfer your USD from Mt Gox to your Dwolla account (never took more than 1/2 hr for me)
7)ACH transfer to your debit card( next day during the week)
Cool from coins to USD in 1 day with almost zero fees

 Grin

Thanks!

Well shit we can rule out the Power Supplies  Grin

As for the problem I'm not sure. I remember seeing a similar issue in a post here one time but I can't find it. I would say try a linux live cd and see if it works on linux. If it does I might suggest to just put linux on your machine.
11  Economy / Goods / Re: WTS Intel 320 300GB SSD on: February 27, 2012, 09:21:46 PM
I don't fully understand from your OP. Is this unused but tested, or did you actually use this drive? If it is used, was it used as a primary or a secondary drive?
I used the original one for about 6 months then it died and I RMA'd it. I just put Windows on the new one and checked to make sure everything works fine so yes it was the primary drive for all of 2 days. All is good and at this point it's about 4 days old. I will do escrow or trade for the equivalent in graphics cards.
12  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which one? Litecoin vs. Bitcoin on: February 27, 2012, 09:15:37 PM
Dude you are seriously wasting your time. At like $10 per year where are you going with this? This is not worth the effort and you will kill your CPU way before you make enough money to pay for another one. Take our advice and don't CPU mine period.
13  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 6970 on the way, do i need to upgrade the PSU? on: February 27, 2012, 09:13:20 PM
Buy this one if you really don't want to spend much money http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139020.

But I'd really get more if I were you for future upgrades. You don't want to get a cheap one then down the road upgrade and have to buy another one. I'd go with something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151108 at the least.
14  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: 5870 + 6870 problems on: February 27, 2012, 08:38:44 AM
You know I had that happen to me with those exact same two cards. I had a 750 watt PSU that I thought was plenty but it turned out the PSU was the problem. Now I know 750 watts can easily run those cards but mine was kind of old and not the same as when I got it so if you have another PSU lying around try it. Now there are a number of things it could be but try another PSU if you have one. Otherwise the motherboard might be defective.
15  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Can you put a 7970 into an SDK2.5 mining box ? on: February 27, 2012, 08:33:59 AM

[0-0]barts is a 6870 (with 2.5 sdk) and [1-1]juniper is a 5770 with 2.1 sdk. Both sdks working great together. Shouldnt be a problem to throw in mix 2.6 and others together.
Wow I didn't know you could do that. How do you install different SDK for different cards?
16  Economy / Goods / Re: WTS Intel 320 300GB SSD on: February 27, 2012, 08:27:40 AM
I'm looking for around $400 or equivalent. I'll accept any method although I've never used escrow. I know I'm new here with no rep so I'm happy to accept any payment method.

Escrow just means payment is sent to a trusted third party who verifies that the merchandise was sent by the seller to the buyer.  Once verified, the third party sends the payment to the seller. Its usually pretty painless and gives a degree of safety to a transaction.

Yeah, without this where would the new guys like me start!

What a shame. Can't throw them in previous rigs without losing serious hash rate.
18  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 6970 on the way, do i need to upgrade the PSU? on: February 27, 2012, 08:17:31 AM
You'd be maxing out that PSU. The 2 12V rails can only handle 18 amps each and the video card would be very close to that plus the wattage will get close too. Short answer is I would not use that PSU period. Now you could do it, but to safely do it you would want to make sure your CPU is idling and doesn't have CPU bug and you underclock the GPU memory and undervolt slightly. My advice, get a new PSU. You will be much happier that way. You don't want to max that PSU out and have something bad happen
19  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Power related questions on: February 27, 2012, 08:10:58 AM
I don't know much about that PSU but I like to not load PSUs up to much unless they are really high quality (for example Seasonic). Also single rail designs are much better however multiple rail designs can be managed. Just make sure you don't have the CPU bug that makes it run 100% while mining and you should be able to run 3 cards assuming you cut down on accessories. In it's current configuration (with DVD drive, hard drive, fans, 100 watt CPU, etc) you'd be cutting it too close for comfort.

Yeah SDK 2.6 Blows for 5000 and 6000 series cards. Anything before that is great. 2.1 is probably the best but I use 2.5 and have almost the exact same results. Definitely get off SDK 2.6
