1  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Red Alert Blockchain.info down on: March 18, 2014, 06:33:25 PM
No need to panic. All the funds are unaffected, as can be verified by anyone who tries to restore their wallet backup into a desktop client, as many have already done. We do not have access to your funds.

We're gradually restoring services and wallets onto the databases.

Thanks,

Andreas

2  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Poll: Bitcoin Foundation needs Andreas Antonopoulos? on: February 05, 2014, 06:49:56 PM
Thank you for your support.

I post here occasionally, this is my forum handle.

I am a member of the Bitcoin Foundation. I had a lot of concerns in the beginning because of the leadership. Recently, with the transition to Jon Matonis as chair and the elections of members, I see things have improved.

I am currently the chair of the anti-poverty and development working group within the foundation, a position that is focused on work responsibility rather than a title. I am not interested in becoming a board member, I think I can be more effective as an independent member and by working as part of the various committees.

I think it would be best if the next person to be added to the board of the foundation was someone who is not an English-speaking white male. We have plenty of that. However, it is not up to me to say. I'd prefer to see elections among the members, with a ranked-choice voting system

Thank you again for the support, it is humbling to be nominated by the community like this.

Ech. Thanks for reminding me I need to request to have my membership revoked.

Kludge,

Is he active participant in Bitcoin Forum? I wonder.
No. He was banned a long time ago. He went by Atlas and a bunch of other monikers I don't remember. Did you know all of the letters of "Atlas" is in Andreas' full name? Wow. Amazing.

If you do a Google Image search of Andreas, as I do every day, you'll notice he tends to wear a lot of blue. Atlas loved the color blue so much that he only used blue-colored lightbulbs in his room. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=68493

I wouldn't dare suggest to Andreas while face-to-face that he is/"was" Atlas, though. He'd probably punch me in the kidneys.... for blowing his cover, obviously.

I am not Atlas, that's someone else. No big deal, it's not a "cover", just not me. I post publicly and with my name everywhere.  I have never been active in the Foundation forums.
4  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The most compelling Bitcoin presentation I've ever seen: Andreas M. Antonopoulos on: January 14, 2014, 06:04:19 AM
I couldn't agree more: I try to tailor the tone and content to the audience, as much as possible. See for example, my appearance on Bloomberg and even Max Keiser, where I am facing a general audience and I offer a perspective focused on technology innovation, security innovation and growth opportunity for a new industry.

In the Vegas case however, I had 500 people in the audience who had spent 2 days listening to the entrepreneurs talk money. Which is fine and necessary, but I felt that a different PoV should also be voiced, on the last day, on the last panel. So I tailored my content and tone to my audience: the 500 people who came with passion for bitcoin, not my four (very gracious and patient) co-panelists. Not my best work, or my proudest moment as a panelist.

I do dozens of interviews per week and appear before a variety of audiences several times a week too. Some of those come out well, but not all. Sometimes I miss the mark on my audience. Not everyone cares for what I have to say, but I speak from the heart and I'm always open to changing my mind and my tone as I learn.

Thank you for the honest feedback.

Andreas is the man, he made me fall even more in love with Bitcoin and opened my eyes to a lot of angles I couldn't see

Thanks for the links!

I've always wondered if he had an account on this forum, anyone know?

Yes, I have an account here, though I find the forum structure cumbersome and have not written here in a long time. Thank you for the support and kind words!

Thank you for recording this and for the kind words and support.

I hope to do many more of these presentations at local bitcoin communities, where I get the most value and best questions from the audience!
7  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Smart people: How do you secure the private key on publicly sold paper wallets? on: August 24, 2013, 02:09:07 AM
safepaperwallet.com supports BIP0038 encrypted private keys.

This you can use a PIN or passphrase to protect the private key. Without the decryption phrase you cannot spend.

The openpaperwallet project has released the v3 BETA. This is in preparation for v3 release.

The software can be used with pre-printed SafePaperWallet kits or on plain paper with beautiful backgrounds.

Try it now: https://safepaperwallet.com/software-v3-beta/

It’s an 11MB zip (because of the graphics), but still all running in one HTML page. Unzip and open the HTML file in your local browser. Do not use for real paper wallets – this is a beta

10  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [ANNOUNCE] Micro-payment channels implementation now in bitcoinj on: June 27, 2013, 11:16:40 PM
Geez. This is exciting! Excellent work.

So who wants to create a pay as much as you use music streaming service? Micropayments for each second of listening. Goes straight to artist.

I want to build a service that enables that. I heard you're a good UI developer ;-)

Not really - USB drives are notoriously unreliable.

I would not trust a flash drive with money.

Encryption is easy. Key management and key retention is hard.
13  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: [ANN] BOP Mobile Bitcoin Server on: June 26, 2013, 09:44:50 PM
Very cool project Tamas.

Is there a public API for hosted BOP server that can be used to try some of this technology?
14  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Cold storage on: June 26, 2013, 09:42:35 PM
Marcus,

Encrypting private keys is possible. It is part of a proposed standard BIP0038. We will be implementing it the next version of the Safe Paper Wallet and Open Paper Wallet software.

15  Economy / Goods / Re: Safe Paper Wallet: Cold/offline storage for your bitcoin has never looked better on: June 26, 2013, 07:48:36 PM
Yesterday I released version 2.0 of the Safe Paper Wallet and Open Paper Wallet software generator, with the following features:

* Enter your own keys: If you don’t trust or can’t verify our random key generator, now you can enter your own keys generated through any program you want and print them on the paper wallets.

* Wallet aliases: It’s difficult to find one wallet out of dozens, if you’re looking for 1HqPrCSCBk… But it is much easier with a generated alias like “FUZZY BROWN LION”. All wallets can now have an optional alias that makes them easy to find

* Export your public addresses: Scanning dozens of QRs to import the public address of each wallet is cumbersome. With the new CSV export feature, you can save them and import into your wallet of choice (No private keys are ever exported, of course).

Currently in beta-testing, the next version will also feature multiple designs that can be printed as part of the background:

16  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [BOUNTY CLOSED] Open Source (CC) Paper Wallet Kit for safe offline coin storage on: June 26, 2013, 07:42:21 PM
At long last, the full vision of this project is coming to fruition!

Attached below are two screenshots of the new wallet-generator that is currently in beta-tests.

The software will allow anyone to select from one of many designs (or a pre-printed SafePaperWallet kit) and print a sheet of beautiful wallets. Once it is launched I will offer the opportunity for any designer to submit designs for inclusion in the software.

The top part of the paper-wallet generator allows the user to enter their own private keys and also generates deterministic aliases using the format adjective-color-animal. This makes it easy to find specific wallets from a stack. The aliases and public keys are exportable as CSV, to make it easy to add them to an online wallet address book.

The bottom part of the page allows the user to select a wallet design for the background:

Axilla,

Please send a message to the support desk (support@rooteleven.zendesk.com)

I have passed on the information but we will need some additional info from you.

I can find or reset the password for you, once I confirm the site info, unfortunately we do not enable email sending by default on the stores, you have to use your own email server - this is because we would otherwise be used by spammers as an email generator.
18  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: SafePaperWallet.com? on: June 18, 2013, 12:17:29 AM
Hi there, this is Andreas Antonopoulos, the founder of Safe Paper Wallet.

If you have any questions about the security of our product, please ask.

We do not, ever, see your keys as you should print them onto our wallets with your computer offline. You can also use our service for free, but then you don't get the nice paper and security stickers ;-)

All the software is open source and the source is visible in the page itself.

Thanks for considering Safe Paper Wallet.

19  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Open Bitcoin Store: Free bitcoin online stores on: June 16, 2013, 08:11:05 PM
Most of them are not listed (as of today 138 stores), it takes time to add stock and make pretty.

We're about to finish work on OpenBitcoinStore 2.0, which will have an improved directory and more automatic listing.

20  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] BoffOS Bootable clean OS for offline wallet printing, USB and CD on: June 04, 2013, 06:51:34 PM
Some clarification:

There is no bitcoin wallet software on the LiveCD. Only software to generate keys and QRs and print them on wallets. The goal is to print wallets without ever having their keys be online or seen by an online system that may have trojans.

Loading the wallets and unloading them happens on an online system, later.

We offer full instructions as part of the Safe Paper Wallet project, which include a recommendation to only redeem a wallet once, fully and sweep into another wallet in full. Then never use it again.

If I understand correctly, the issue of "change" only occurs if people try to redeem small amounts of a wallet, not the complete balance of that address, right?

In any case, we do not do transactions offline, only key generation and printing.
