101  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Thread: Main on: December 31, 2013, 02:56:38 AM
You are just frigging insane. 500 million NXT will vote for the benefit of NXT network not to froze your pity 100K account.
I don't care which acc it will be, even DDoS'er acc, even some criminal's. I suggest to completely avoid possibility of that kind of thing happening. Which benefits u're seeing in option to freeze someone's acc? How that connects with decentralization? PoS+TF defend system even against 90%+ of collected coins attacking (bad forging, what else from inside?), why add to this option of freezing anyone's coins?

Also help 500 million NXT helps outsiders to DDoS the network ? talk about madness.
Wut? I'm talking about compromising system (in eyes of potential and existing users) by creating bad-looking polls with high enough votes. Like, yeah, "freeze that acc, shall we?". In the end that strategy can cost pretty low against price of 90%+ attack. If network'll become strong enough compromising through VS can be even cheaper than DDoS to hundreds of thousands nodes. At least it seems so to me.

Remember that story with Silk Road? What if some big Exchange 'll be raided and feds 'll take 51% of funds? Bye bye NXT? Yes.
102  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 31, 2013, 02:53:24 AM
It's pure shit about 51% voting that can freeze or destroy coins.

Hacker can transfer funds every 10 minutes to a new account and pay for this 144 NXT per day.

You 'll never be able to force all people to do this in such timeframe, of course if you are not owner of 51% already.

Should i also include that i'm against such feature at all? Terrible news.
103  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 30, 2013, 03:38:39 PM
Criticise what I'm suggesting, but first understand my position. Ask questions. Don't assume.

You thought about security only after found several strange 1 NXT incoming transactions. Fear made you to move and speak with community.

Would you like to fund fully completed bounties, which may be interested to you?

Just create a new bounty then, it can be for example - "Security Research of NXT account in forging status", which 'll lead some real specialist to make some really complicated analysis for you and community.

Fund and develop bounties you need, or create a bounty to look and manage good bounties for you.
104  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 30, 2013, 05:15:00 AM

I have a large account balance, and the other day I noticed a few separate transactions in my history where unknown users to me had sent 1 NXT amounts to my account. I hadn't noticed them before, as the only difference between a forged NXT and a sent NXT is the small icon next to the transaction number.

I suspect someone was experimenting with trying to identify the location of accounts with large balances on the network. I don't have much experience with these things, but I suspect there could be ways of analysing transaction logs and other data sources to try and determine the IP address, or identity/location of an open account.

My account number is one of the accounts on the block explorer page of top accounts, so I think someone was searching for the location & account status of big accounts.

Dont worry. It was me, who added your account to one of NXT faucet, as you seems too poor to fund activity of NXT supporters or too busy watching your balance growing.

Joke. Or not?

Dont take it personally. This is my message to all high volume shareholders.

I have an URGENT feature request.
Currently ALL addresses are valid and sending money to an acct create it. This is all cool and stuff, but one typo and money is gone forever.

Without changing too much of the code, I think if we just brought up a warning that "you are about to send money to an account with zero balance. Are you sure?" or even better would be to display some basic statistics about the account that is being sent to, time acct has been open, number of transactions, etc.

This way before irrevocably sending money to the void, we can at least do a sanity check on the type of account that will be getting the funds.

I do not advise going to a large scale deployment without such a safeguard. I just lost a lot of precious NXT due to late night sleepytime typo

Intel, I could not find the post to which you were referring.  Is there something I need to do to fix my client?  Sorry, I am not the most proficient at this technical stuff.

Yes, you can fix it (most likely) by

- stopping the server,
- then deleting (make a backup?) blocks and transactions txt files in the root of NXT server
- and then starting it again.
109  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Nxt :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: December 26, 2013, 06:33:09 PM
Is anyone else having trouble with with the client?  I opened my account and see no information loading and there is also no balance.

Same here, see my posts above...
What version of the client do you have?

People want some online resource where they can read more about current status of the NXT core sites. Should i create one ddos protected website where everybody can check and share news regarding the situation, this 'll help to avoid panic or customer depression. The website 'll be online all the time, guaranteed.

It can be done today.

I welcome any ideas and extensions for this task.

Great idea -
please set it up on news.nxtcrypto.org and PM me your IP and I will create an A record for it
(yes everone, I know all bout news protocol, but come on, thats dead)

Or if you'd like  pick a better hostname if you can think of one and ill add an A record for it to .nxtcrypto.org

It can be status.nxtcrypto.org or news.nxtcrypto.org , up to community.

I 'll PM you with the IP within next 15 minutes.

can I get some linux help here?  Im looking at adding more VPSs, I have 5 on digitalocean now, im trying out budgetvm next to spread things around a bit.  Only OSs they have are:

Debian 6
CentOS 6.2
Fedora Core 16
Gentoo 2013
Scientific Linux 6.2
Slackware 13.37
Ubuntu 12.04

none of these support jre1.7 w/o complicated steps.  Which of these is easisest to upgrade to latest ver after a base install?

Take Centos 6.2 , login to it,  then do

yum update
yum install java-1.7.0-openjdk

done
