101  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Diff thread Aug 2 to Aug 16. Picks are yet to start. prize =0.00 on: August 13, 2016, 09:58:08 PM
Hope it works out as planned for you phil!

Today I sold 50 of the remaining 200 BFX tokens  I recovered 17 more dollars.

I think I am down about 190 usd  of 700 usd.

Someone donated 0.05btc towards new prizes  so thats about 29 usd. some one else said they will donate more to me.

Would make me down 161 usd.

...

Glad to hear about loss being less for you and other's.  I think this is a good thing for BTC price aswell hopefully with less of a loss we will see a smaller sell off of people who are scared.   I will admit i was very scared when BFX news came out one being hacked and price was dropping we really have had some scary times over little time.

Current price on coinbase is at 586 which I am not to disappointed with considering all that has went on.   I really hope this continues and we see it go up above 600 again that is a nice base to have.   Also on a side note on ETH it has not been to bad on value considering the whole ETC coming out of it, so again more stability for miners.  So I am hoping we see more good news next difficulty period for miner's. Biggest thing just hoping we can go a while till another big bad news as news really seems to be able to rock BTC in huge way's.
102  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon 16nm miner to be for sale in this September on: August 13, 2016, 09:50:35 PM
Based on previous recent Avalon, the 6 will cost a little more/MH than the S9 but will be a more robust (in most ways, their CONTROL stuff always left me very uncomfortable) and possibly more configurable design.

I wouldn't count on them being actual competition in a way that would push S9 pricing down.

 8-(

That is assuming we still can purchase gear at a consumer/hobby level.   With them being purchased for big money I have figured they are focused on internal mining first, and I could be wrong I just figure it is biggest factor when being bought as that they can guarantee.  People buying from outside I would guess is hard to factor due to Bitmain seeming to underprice them in past I agree on that.

I am hoping us hobby miners can still get gear.  But I am not holding my breath/time as it is really all still up in the air and we know very very little about current setup, or even how long till they have a working current gen miner.
103  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Reasons Mining Will NEVER Be Profitable on: August 13, 2016, 09:45:54 PM
Cold isn't critical, low electric cost IS.

 Cold can HELP though.

Best place to mine in the US is NOT a particularly cold area - but it's DRY around here making low-cost Evaporative cooling reasonable most of the time it DOES get hot.

I can vouch on this sadly in the Midwest summers temp can very highly and a few really hot day's.   What I did was use lot's of CFM's during summer on fan's so the pushing of hot air out becomes very important.  I actually had to upgrade to a commercial duct exhust due to hot summer's a typical home one just did not keep up.  Also it depends on weather some are lucky and can do evaporation cooling which is cheapest option as far as cooling.

But low electricity will always remain king.  If you have that you can work most thing's, there are a few things such as electricity/internet not being reliable that can make even cheap electricity hard.   So there are other factors some politically are hard ... so lots of other items but overall electricity is what most are decided by in my experience.

Anyone out there using S9s successfully with zpool?

I just attempted to with one of my S9's it didn't work for me.

you probably have to use a proxy.

this is what i use
https://github.com/Stratehm/stratum-proxy

Shortened as so long but I just tried zpool and am having no issues mining direct to it.  Will test for 30 minutess or so and post a screenshot but right now it seems to work just a tad slower my batch one is getting: 13,797.82 but have only ran for 3 minutes.

So looking promising as far as running it.  Is zpool really paying that well?

With stratehm it is noticeably more stable for S7 and S9, the S9 is significantly better than the S7 and I have never had my batch 3 lock up. The servers are not tremendously stable so expect to get 0.0002-0.0003 lower payout than what is listed by way of failovers, but you'll still get some good profitability.

Seems to be same results after 30 minute's.  No issues mining direct from a batch 1 S9.  Site is possibly slow though as in 30 minutes it show's hashrate much slower on zpool site.  Guess will see in a while if it catches up hopefully.:

I did lose a little hash compared to a normal pool (I've tested many on it).  Has anyone used this pool much is it really paying out so good consistently?
105  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Which of these exchange sites is most trusted/preferred on: August 12, 2016, 01:22:44 AM
@notlist3d

I see what you mean about storage, I guess the best rule of thumb is to secure funds in my wallet as soon as I can. I'm in the U.S. and I've heard of coinbase but I thought it was a wallet.

It is a exchange first and a good in in my eye's for US.  The thing they have that very few other's have is insurance.  If they get hacked as a site (not due to user fault but due to site) the insurance is suspose to pay losses.  It has never been tested as they have not been hacked, but it is impressive.   They will want all your info though for using as a exchange.  But with being in US KYC (Know Your Customer) is needed with exchanges so they are not considered money launders.

They do have a wallet to.  But check it out https://www.coinbase.com/ .  They are not good for those gambling/doing bad thing's.  So I guess depends on what your doing I'm assuming all legal.   Which ever one you pick make sure to use 2 factor authentication. Also this is assuming you want a exchange to go from fiat to BTC.  Not one that you are playing with altcoin's really.
106  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Where can I follow BTC price instantly and accurately? on: August 12, 2016, 01:16:04 AM
I really like coindesk, I think it is overlooked by many.  But give it a look at: http://www.coindesk.com/price/

With it you can pick between like 5 or so different exchanges, or their own BPI.  But I think it is big as you can select the exchange you use as all exchanges will vary on price some ... so most accurate is kinda hard to say I think unless you specify exchange.   Also I love it goes down to 1 hour you can watch current trends or go out much larger on timeframe.   So give it a try.

I would agree bitwisdom is also great they are king in my eye's as far as ROI calculator.  They have one of the best and most comprehensive there is there.  And it's pretty good on using to guess next bitcoin difficulty change with current data.
107  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Which is the best trusted website to earn btc? on: August 12, 2016, 01:11:08 AM
a website is trusted or is not...
How can a website be better trusted than an other?
My U2  site is trusted.
How can an other site be better trusted?
If you go on trust points...you are wrong to find a trusted site...because often trusted are completely wrong...(lol)

what do you mean by your U2 site? are you a site owner or what? trust points can only be a basis of legitimacy of a site. of course you need a thorough research about a site before you can say that it is really trusted. do a background check on a website before you invest something on it so that there will be no regrets in the future.

My u2 sote is
http://u2cloudmining.winspiral.net
I'm the owner...but in fact all my members are more or less owner as well because they are shareholder of the site.
I suppose they trust...because using a site daily and not trust it is unrealistic.

I would not put it as trusted site.  When you say trusted I think of like coinbase, Bitmain, etc.  Your site was not well received by some: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=492957 .  Also been a while since I have seen stat's have you paid everyone who bought shares back? (Might help get rid of some neg trust's if you do pay them back).  Where are you getting info your site is considered a trusted site?

And to your point a website is trusted or not based on many things.  First what is the website some are scam's/schemes others are good.  Then go to history some sites have a long history again.   But reading forum will help decide on this.

In the meantime it is proven that the "old site" from where my negative trust points came has workd till the end and all investors have been paid like promised.
The negative trusters have spend more time to point me negatively then time spend to understand my old site.

The negative trusters have a valid point as it was very much ponzi type when you charged people for shares.  Now your new free claims are just dust ant not really going to add up to anything.   You also skipped a valid question "all investors have been paid like promised" does not anwser question.  Have you paid 100 percent of all investor's money paid for shares? Did they make ROI and how much paid total?

I just don't see the trusted part with your site.  What do you think it is known for that makes it trusted?   Old in itself does not make it trustworthy you can see many scam's that are old and still operating (for example some scam asic companies).
108  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What Bitcoin wallets are best to use? on: August 12, 2016, 01:04:07 AM
Use a wallet that is registered in your country, for example im from the philippines and coins.ph is the wallet i use cause it gives me help in paying my bills and top up my phone instantly.

I would say use a wallet that is based on security.  I would look at cold storage like a paper wallet, they will always remain king as they are free and easy to make.  Just have to make sure you create on a machine not compromised and store safely.  Also you can use hardware wallet's some like Trezor make bitcoin storage very easy and very secure to the point you should not be hacked as long as you store seed's safely.

But online web wallets have a place just to me I don't see it being a main wallet.  They are good for daily spending not long term in my eye's.
109  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Which of these exchange sites is most trusted/preferred on: August 12, 2016, 01:01:04 AM
Short version:

Longer Version:
I'm new to Cryptocurrency. I spent a week doing low paying BTC faucets just to receive and send so that I can see how it works (it was a lot of work for 38 cents lol). Now I'm learning to mine. I'm getting terrible hashes because I'm using minergate CPU power from a couple of old computers I don't use anymore but it's just to learn some basics. I have about 1000 Bytecoins which sadly is just a few cents but it seemed better to mine altcoins then exchange them for Bitcoins. (If anyone uses Minergate, feel free to recommend a better altcoin to mine for conversion to BTC).

I was planning to use https://bittrex.com/ because I've seen it mentioned so many times but they don't seem to accept Bytecoins, two other sites do: https://poloniex.com/ and https://changelly.com/

Of the three which is generally trusted and preferred the most? Or are they all good? Or am I missing something better that I'm unaware of? I really don't want to have to use multiple exchange services unless I have to. And yes I know that the amounts I'm discussing are pointless, at this stage I'm just using pennies to learn the basics because I would hate to make a technical mistake with my own money. Thanks for reading.

The biggest question for this normally is what country are you in?  Depending on that there is normally a few "best".   But it is very regional due to law's changing depending on what country it is in.   For example US Coinbase is a great one, but with KYC they know a lot about you (as any US one would).  But again all depends on country.

And also do NOT store coins on exchanges as a general rule.  They are target's for "bad guy's" so even if you use to convert to fiat I would store in a more secure cold wallet until you need to sell.  Lot's of news about this again going around.
110  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Still worthwhile mining with antminer S5? on: August 12, 2016, 12:54:22 AM
Do you have a list of altcoins that can be mined with antminer S5? I had come to regard it as being obsolete. But altcoins could really drive demand for S5 again.
There's no real list, as any Antminer can mine all SHA256 algorithm coins, but the most profitable generally tends to be Peercoin; at the time of the halving it was actually briefly more profitable than Bitcoin before all the miners moved onto it and the difficulty rose. It now sits at near the profitability of Bitcoin. It's a nice coin to solomine, and it's a good alternative to Bitcoin mining if you're looking for some fun. Coin-switching pools are going to be your best bet for mining generally, but most altcoins are not profitable- especially SHA256 ones. Still quite a shame that there's been no miners like the S5 anymore- it ran well for its time, and still runs well for people with free electricity.

I personally like the newer "bigger" ones for lack of better word.  I am in a good position having a mining area with where power and noise is not a issue currently.  Only thing is with what I pay in electricity all I can currently mine with is S9's and GPU's (altcoin's).   Really the S5 was a miner that ran hot and loud to you could do things to help, but I don't see it is a great miner for a room you use stock.

And I'm not saying it was a bad miner I really liked mine.  In fact I liked the S5+ even better at the time that was really something to have so much power.  I was sad when I had to sell that one and upgrade.   If you had free electricity and looking for a miner of this generation the Avalon 4.1 was much better for a normal room.   But it was a higher priced unit.

But yest S5 if free electricity can still earn, just make sure to do some ROI math as you don't want to pay to much.  S7's are getting awful cheap anymore so I think a lot more of free will look there and then deal with deal heat/noise.

Bumping this again, does anyone know what happened to this company? it all looked so promising....

They were an OEM for a company that had nothing for them to OEM with.

Ah yes, I remember something to do with rocker box chips wish were Spondoolies kit.

Such a shame as it looked like really good gear, I suppose they could of still gone over to Bitfury chips but after doing all that R+D on the SPT chips then effectively having to bin it and start again I suppose the money just ran out Sad

I think there was just not the demand for it.  A lot of asic data center's are not like standard data center's where you need nice rack mounted device.  Yes they are really nice ... but a lot of asic data center's are going to be shelf's where you can set say a S9 and PSU right on it.   So they are trying to make a premium product, so taking some other company's chip and doing it with that.    With that business model I don't see it happening as what are chances they can buy chip's make a miner and do it with competitive pricing?

So a neat idea but likely something that will remain prototype I don't think they will find the chips currently.  And even if they do I still see price as premium product which means money and less chance of ROI.
113  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: please give your best advice for newbie? on: August 11, 2016, 04:11:54 PM
just try to get as much bitcoin as possible right now and wait for big prices
The question is where you can get bitcoin for newbie's? or you just saying buy bitcoin at the low price then sell it when bitcoin has increased?

Buying is an easiest way to get bitcoins, but you need money to invest in it which may not be suitable for everyone, so its better to earn it from different ways.
I woulds better suggest you learn how to earn first in this forum then know more about bitcoins' every corners. Then invest your money into it to have a good profit.

And only invest money you are able to lose, this is  a big thing.  I know exchange hacking is a topic again you can see how some lost money very quick.   So when investing keep a number in mind you are able to do realistically even if you see nothing back.  This prepares you for worst case scenario.  But if you make good investment's yes you can make big returns with crypto it is high risk high reward type of investment.

I would say learning not bitcoin's in general but specific investments helps.  For example if you want to mine, if so then BTC or alt coins would be what you need to learn.  Could be trading and you need read up on coins and it can be quite hard.  Or even just buying and long term holding is a fair strategy  on making money over time.

But find your niche you enjoy and it is fun.  Personally I love mining so I spend a lot of time there and love learning all I can on it.   You have to find that topic you enjoy and is invest-able after it really can be fun and profitable in many cases.
114  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can i enter a signature campaign as a newbie? on: August 11, 2016, 04:05:02 PM
You can try joining 777coin or Bitvest.io signature campaigns. They pay newbies 0.000045 per post which is actually a good rate for a newbie here. I knew that they had some problems in the past but I think that they are paying now. I do not think that there are other campaigns that pay newbies, mostly the floor is member or full members with 2 or 3 of them that accept jr. Members.
Yes. Many say these campaigns are ok to be with and contribute our best and earn. These campaigns are paying good amount to the new users.    Join in one of these and start posting and earning bitcoins.

Bolded part that is not really true.  Being new you will get micro payments, in most cases dust payments that don't really add up.  Just a lot of newbie level accounts that spam, and the sig campaigns for that level don't pay much.  Also they don't have full sig size read more about ranks to see what you get on sig size/abilities it grows as you rank get's higher.

In most cases best way is to just wait.  Use the site and learn how to make helpful posts and do this to full member is my suggestion.  If you build up good posts during the time up to full member you  have a much better shot at getting into a good signature campaign.  I cant stress enough how much quality posts make a difference here.

But realistically being a "newbie" and earning in sig campaign just does not happen in any sizable payment's.

Hi All, Hi bilabonic

Its the seller of this S7 BTC miner here.
The unit is (should/was/tested) working well, hope the video walk through was followed to ensure it is all connect up properly.
the usual pin 3+4 on PSU (850w and RM1000w one) should be in place, do ensure it is in place, and not peeled back, or pin fallen out.

walk through of my setup(testing) pre-shipping.
https://youtu.be/byicTWp7r1g

my S7 setup, pre shipping again, -all about power supplies connections
https://youtu.be/urkXA2ShCd4

Bear in mind the RM1000 has the modular cables, in case they are not plugged in properly?
Have them meter-tested post power on, to ensure they are correctly plugged.

I am scratching my head here, not sure what the issue you're experiencing there to be honest.
Do you mind posting here photos and video-walk-through of your setup by any chance as well?

that would help set any assumptions away and get us all on the same page there.

cheers

Looking at video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=urkXA2ShCd4&feature=youtu.be at 22 seconds looks like molex to PCIe?  For S7's I would never use this adapter as it just is not the same power as PCIe cable.  And most molex to PCIe are not meant for the watt's were talking about.  Also in video you mention that it was hot with smaller PSU what specifically was hot and how hot are we talking about?

So not sure with adapter/hot miner might have had a hard life.   It is sounding like controller has a problem which you might order due to time to get.  But when running are you still using that molex to PCIe adapter?

We are under 5%  Grin

https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficulty

Bitcoin Difficulty:   201,893,210,853

Estimated Next Difficulty:   211,595,784,384 (+4.81%)
Adjust time:   After 683 Blocks, About 4.6 days

Hashrate(?):   1,400,753,430 GH/s
Block Generation Time(?):
1 block: 9.6 minutes
3 blocks: 28.9 minutes
6 blocks: 57.7 minutes
Updated:   9:50 (4.7 minutes ago)

Be funny if it drops to 2% or less

Sadly looks like it went back up:

Bitcoin Difficulty:    201,893,210,853
Estimated Next Difficulty:    212,485,992,334 (+5.25%)
Adjust time:    After 666 Blocks, About 4.4 days
Hashrate(?):    1,416,154,256 GH/s

Even if we see a drop I will want a little bit of time to confirm it.  With Bitmain offering the new S7 + PSU for 50 MOQ order's they could be unhooking and selling them to outside companies.  So temporary drop off from sales of S7 in bulk, but the bad thing is they will be plugged in + chances are Bitmain upgrades internal meaning even more hash on network.

So I think temporary drops from shipping of gear but I could be all wet on my guess.
118  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Mining and quantum computing on: August 11, 2016, 03:32:18 PM
Not a specialist, so, maybe.

Found another mildly interesting tidbit:
Quantum bitcoin proposal.
http://arxiv.org/pdf/1604.01383v1.pdf
Quote
The Quantum Bitcoin protocol has several advantages over classical Bitcoin, including immediate local verification of transactions.  This is a major improvement since we no longer need the computationally intensive and time-consuming method Bitcoin uses to record all transactions in the blockchain. Instead, Quantum Bitcoin only records newly minted currency which drastically reduces the footprint and increases efficiency.  We present formal security proofs for counterfeiting resistance and show that a quantum bitcoin can be re-used a large number of times before wearing out – just like ordinary coins and banknotes. Quantum Bitcoin is the first distributed quantum money system and we show that the lack of a paper trail implies full anonymity for the users

not sure what bitcoin specialists think about this one. Never heard about this before.

Getting everyone on board for a change like this would be very hard, it seems for most part Bitcoin companies do not like change.  Getting everyone to even look at size changes is hard to get anything accomplished.   Only thing that they did in my eyes do quick is stop 51 percent on one pool back on G-hash long ago.  They got together and split hash as they had the over 50 for a bit.

So I don't see bitcoin going to quantum computing I think sha miners like we have now will remain what is used.  Now they will get more efficient over time and more powerful but essentially I think we are stuck with asics in BTC mining for the foreseeable future.
119  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: About Starting in mining on: August 11, 2016, 03:26:28 PM
my suggestion is don't buy antminer s9 because the price is so high, better you buy at least 5-10 vga card to mining ethereum. its a good choice for you if you have that budget
yes, i agree, for know to bitcoin mining is not profitable, the price must minimal $ 1000 will be profitable. i suggest to alt mining,

You cannot make blanket statements like this.   Keep in mind so many variables it varies greatly on who can do it profitably.  And the biggest factor in most cases is electricity.  But it is not a 90 day ROI like it once was, it is much longer.  But some still do it (including me).

So you can do it your post is really wrong, almost seeming like post was just for sig with size and info in it.  And alt mining really focuses on ETH and ETC let's be honest they are what is keeping it profitable.  So alt coin mining is really a pretty small of group of coins that are worth mining.
120  Economy / Services / Re: [BIT-X.com] Earn Bitcoins by Posting | Signature Campaign on: August 11, 2016, 03:16:07 PM

I second amph ,the altcoin boards should be counted.Even the PPP rate has been decreased.

Doubt the campaign will change for you guys. Every time i take a look here, there are bunch of participants expressing unsatisfaction and pointing to problems,
but none of you quit the campaign regardless..

The only way this will change is if people start quitting, if nothing else , out of principles, like Amph did.
If not, i would expect PPP rate decrease every now and then, making your effort borderline charity for bit-x

I really don't want to take another PPP rate loss so quick after last drop.  And I really don't think that is the anwser anyways on lowering.   Either campaign support's it or does not.   There is a pretty long history of not counting it in general, I can understand this as there are a lot of crap coins.  But with Ether there is some good topics now and actually profitable mining.

What was done in past (long ago) if you thought your post's in a certain section were of high enough quality in a area bot did not normally count, and it was up to Marco's judgement on if it could be added to your post count.  Keep in mind some would get told no as it takes great posts to justify.  I'm guessing Amph had a exemption and with bot maintenance they got rid of it (I would guess it did it to all that had it).  Keep in mind i am guessing here as I did not have exemption for alt coins just remember how they did it long ago.  If it was intentional and there are no exemptions ... do not know that is far above me.

But I think leaving it up to Marco on each individual person based on post's makes sense.   And again he might not want any altcoin post's I have no idea, as general rule it has not been part of campaign for a very very long time. All is really up to him and I don't know current rule on it.

On payment looks like were waiting on hot wallet to filled, then hopefully it goes out.
