101  Economy / Service Discussion / Bitstamp is down on: November 05, 2013, 10:00:44 PM
Bitstamp is currently down. We do not know if this is a problem with Bitstamp itself or if the site has been hacked, or if it has been shut down by a government entity. If you have any information please add your comment in the section below.

102  Economy / Service Discussion / SatoshiDice hacked? on: November 01, 2013, 07:19:19 AM
SatoshiDice is currently down. Their message is:

SatoshiDICE Tribute’s engine has gone insane. It’s current being sedated, probed, and fondled, until we figure out what the problem is. All deposits are safe and if issues take too long we’ll refund manually. Please see the forum thread for the latest updates, and thank you SINCERELY for bearing with us during this chaos.

Even their old site seems to be down for the moment. Are they really being hacked or is it just a messy crash with their engine?

103  Economy / Speculation / Bitcoin and cryptocurrency analysis + one more thing – Week 44 on: October 29, 2013, 03:22:52 PM
The graph you can see here: http://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/2013/10/29/bitcoin-cryptocurrency-analysis-one-thing-week-44/

shows a quite turbulent week for the Bitcoin price level. It peaked at 232 USD per Bitcoins October 24th, and fell drastically down to 175 USD per Bitcoins within 24 hours. It has since then slowly climbed up again to a price around 205-210 USD per Bitcoins. We believe that this price level will hold for a couple of weeks with smaller ups and downs if there is no bigger Bitcoin-events taking place in the news. We still believe that the Bitcoin price is overpriced for the current market, but we see that the future price of Bitcoin will be way over 200 USD. A level around 140 to 170 USD per Bitcoins is considered plausible for the coming months.

The Cryptocurrency Analysis

Since cryptocurrencies in general experienced a large cash escape because of the Bitcoin price rising, most alt-coins seems to have stabilized and some have even gained more value than it originally had. We are careful with putting out investment advice for small cryptocurrencies with small communities and unknown development teams. The three Alt-Coins we would concider to invest in for the coming weeks are Primecoin (XPM), Mincoin (MNC, but not at the current price level), and Worldcoin (WDC). XPM is a good buy now, everything below 0.005 is considered to be cheap. For MNC, everything below 0.001 is a good investment, and for Worldcoin we believe the buy in level should be around 0.00004 to 0.00005 Bitcoins per Worldcoin before investing in it.

What do you think will be the coming price of Bitcoin?
104  Economy / Speculation / Will Bitcoin cost $1,000 someday? $10,000? My opinion: No. on: October 25, 2013, 06:08:53 AM
With the dawn of a new era in Bitcoin (the “China” era?), it may appear that this is the “final chance to get in on BTC” before it rises to some new astronomical value. I strongly disagree with this statement. Here’s why:

1) Very little has changed in Bitcoin from where it was 3 weeks ago.
To my knowledge, the only two things sparking the near doubling of BTC price are Baidu offering BTC as an accepted currency for a small part of their business (DDoS protection), and a BTC story appearing on Chinese television. This changes little from the “utility” standpoint of BTC- I cannot buy or sell goods quicker or more securely with BTC than I could 3 weeks ago.

However, you could argue that as a result of the recent publicity BTC has received, it will spark new innovations and more price support (buyers) for the coin, network, and community. I once again think this is incorrect. Here’s why:

2) Bitcoin’s code might be as good as gets.
The Bitcoin Foundation and all of the developers associated with the project have done an excellent job on making Bitcoin very technically secure and efficient. Even during a blockchain fork in March, the right people stepped up to fix it. Yet, problems still remain, and a number of alt coins are attempting to solve them. among them are:

The speed of block confirmations (Coins take 30 minutes to confirm- imagine waiting on line for 30 minutes? See below for one solution)
The length of the block chain
    The centralization of mining hardware
The centralization of BTC owners (big corps, governments, rich people)

The first two problems are in the process of being solved by centralization, that is trusting other people to handle the problem for you. Payment processors and online wallets do a good job of providing conveniences for other people, but you have to trust them to solve problems for you. Other altcoins, like Mincoin and Peercoin, solved the problem with coding faster blocks (MNC) and developing other confirmation techniques (proof-of-stake in PPC).

The centralization of mining hardware and the big “whales” in BTC are alarming to me. The market is beholden to their whims- do they want to sell? Do they want to buy? Ideally, coins should be owned by a plurality of holders. For whatever reasons, BTC is increasingly going to the hands of a few, either through buying or mining.

106  Economy / Speculation / Bitcoin analysis – The coming weeks on: October 24, 2013, 07:02:00 AM
Bitcoin has experienced an incredible journey the last couple of weeks. It started with a statement: “China’s State Press Calls for ‘Building a de-Americanized World’“, then the follow up by Baidu, the so called Google of China: “Breaking news: Baidu (NASDAQ:BIDU) accepts BITCOIN!“. After a few quiet days, the Bitcoin price suddenly shot to the roof leaving all other cryptocurrencies behind. “Btcn CNY hits the top of bitcoinwatch’s trade volume charts” explained the dramatic shift from the west to east as someone explained it: “China has woken up”.

We early saw the clear signs that Alt-Coins could be devalued real fast with the Bitcoin price roar and sent out our analysis to the members of Cryptocurrency Investment Club, and later posted our update here.

We have earlier explained our beliefs that “Bitcoin is stabilizing and could face a major downtrend – This could be the time to buy back into Alt-Coins“. We want to do another analysis to try and figure out what will happen with the Bitcoin price in the coming weeks.

107  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Bitcoin rises, litecoin plummets on: October 18, 2013, 12:08:05 PM
As you can see from the sell order:

http://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/2013/10/18/litecoin-seems-plummeting/

Litceoin owners has a reason to be a bit scared. More than 127 873 Litecoins has been submitted for sale for 0.0132 BTC per LTC which has a total value of 1 687 Bitcoins. Litecoin could be facing a massiv downtrend in the coming days, not just because of the sell order but also because of Bitcoin’s big increase in value over USD pushing alt-coins down.
108  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / XPM Primecoin could be a great buy at the current price level on: October 17, 2013, 12:47:20 PM
Primecoin (XPM) hit a week low yesterday at about 0.0035 BTC per XPM. One of the main reasons seems to have been Bitcoins major increase in value as we wrote about yesterday. Bitcoin has stabilized since then. XPM and other cryptocurrencies experienced a massive buy after most of the alt-coins hit a low.

109  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin on the rise, you migth want to stay away from Alt-Coins until it has sta on: October 16, 2013, 06:40:19 AM
Bitcoin has increased its value from 125 USD per Bitcion to 146 USD per Bitcoin on Bitstamp (Not Mt. Gox) within a couple of days. We believe that an increased consensus in the Bitcoin-community believing Bitcoin CAN BE a worldwide currency is the reason for the sudden increase, including that China seems to have embraced it as we have written in our recent post. And that one of Chinas biggest internet companies, Baidu, now accepts Bitcoins doesn’t help cooling the speculations.

111  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Mincoin (MNC) is this week’s bullish advice for all cryptocurrency traders on: October 12, 2013, 05:56:28 PM
Mincoin (MNC) is this week’s bullish advice for all cryptocurrency traders on mcxNOW. After following this cryptocurrency for a few months, this could be one of the best time to buy them below 0.002 BTC per unit. Both mcxNOW and Mincoin has seen significant rise in popularity since mcxNOW launched its version 2 with mcxFEEs. Now let’s go to our analysis of Mincoin and try to calculate where Mincoin will be by the end of Friday next week.

112  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Worldcoin sudden increase on: October 08, 2013, 06:30:13 AM
Worldcoin rised to astonishing new heights not seen since early this summer. It went from a price of 0.00005 BTC to 0.00015 within 6 hours. We witnessed some massive buys and sells but we have no information on why this suddenly volume shift happened. The network hashrate and difficulty went up by multiple times and are now on 8.1 in difficulty. It seems like the price peaked at 0.00017 and then stabilized on 0.00014. Will this be the beginning of a longer rise of Worldcoin or will it fall back to where it was before this sudden increase?

Do you have any information on the sudden rise of Worldcoin? Write a comment below!

115  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happens after the last coin is mined? on: September 25, 2013, 06:44:27 AM
I realize that asking folks to peer into the murky future is inviting a lot of wild speculation.  However, speculation about future event possibilities can sometimes spark innovative ideas.  At the risk of drowning in a sea of ridicule, I ask these questions:

1.   What will all of the monster hashing machines do after the last coin is mined?
2.   What will the peer-to-peer network be doing?
3.   What are the large holders going to do with their massive collections of BTC?

Looking forward to some interesting ideas.

/Frank
