101  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [140'000 GH] BTC Guild - Pays TxFees, Stratum, MergedMining, Private Servers on: August 27, 2013, 02:51:41 AM
any idea what I should set for the pool's address for avalon

I've tried stratum+tcp://stratum.btcguild.com:3333 but 30mins later, i still don't see any increase in bitcoins.
so i tried http://stratum.btcguild.com:3333 and same thing.

what is the url in numbers? i remember the seller who sold it to me, configured it such that it was stratum+tcp://xx.xx.xx.com:3333 or something.

i completely forgot to copy it down when i switched pools to try.

My Avalon is setup as: stratum+tcp://stratum.btcguild.com:3333 and works great.  Are you sure you put in your worker name correctly?  Also put a password like '123', it might not work if you have it blank.

yeah mine is set at 1234 for password and there's no increase in bitcoins at the dashboard

can i use the bitstamp as a wallet address?

Probably not, Eligius generates "mined" payouts, so you probably need a real wallet, or an online wallet that supports mined payments.

anyway can u shed light on this balance issue?

it was 30+% for 5-6hrs at least then i get no increase in balances..
104  Bitcoin / Hardware / dimensions of avalon's heatsink don't tally between 2 sources? on: August 26, 2013, 02:21:17 PM
the 2 sources are yifu's design as hosted on github and er_lee's design for his waterblock design

I noticed quite a lot of differences, 1st, number of mounting holes. it seems yifu's design left out quite a number of them.

then I looked at er lee's design, but the position of the mounting holes don't tally at all. some are off by 1mm.

At first i relied on yifu's design but his plans are missing some data so if I should rely on er lee's plans for the missing data ( instead of directly using the positions, use the relative differences in positions.  in other words, if 1 hole is 5mm away from the next, use it as a guide and offset)

I really hope someone can help me out here.

Refer to the mounting holes at the 52.8mm mark for yifu's plans and 51.94mm for er lee's plans

105  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Does avalon's power regulators and other components need active cooling? on: August 26, 2013, 01:53:29 PM
If You are in original Avalon design (case) remove dust from all parts, especial from fans and heatsink.
VR on hash modules are cooled this some way as ASIC  and by air flow.
My VR work fine on air cooling. Moded to 1.2785V and supply overclocked chips  400Mhz (~ 400Mh/s) The temps on mosfet are lower than on avalon chip. Don't worry about them.

there will be no fans,

simply watercooling
106  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Does avalon's power regulators and other components need active cooling? on: August 26, 2013, 01:41:21 PM
That rusting looks very odd... Has it been running in a humid environment?

normal air  is 60-85% humidity? under aircon, which i try my best to, is ard 40-50%
107  Bitcoin / Hardware / Does avalon's power regulators and other components need active cooling? on: August 26, 2013, 01:27:09 PM
I'm referring to those components like mosfets, capacitors, etc need active cooling?
https://en.bitcoin.it/w/images/en/thumb/c/cb/Avalon-detail.JPG/800px-Avalon-detail.JPG

components to the left, above the asic chips itself

I was thinking whether should i route water channels in a waterblock over these components or just route somewhere near it and let rest of the waterblock conduct heat away from the components.

btw, does your "chokes" look something like this? rusted?

how do i sign a message to save changes?

I've entered my bitcoin payout address, i've entered the message as above ( my eligius...) but it doesn't work.

Copy the message to your Bitcoin-qt client's "Sign Message" function.  You should get a long string of random letters.  Copy and paste that to the second box on Eligius, job done.

can i use the bitstamp as a wallet address?

anyway i've got some problems with this pool.

i've started mining for ard 5-6hrs and suddenly the balance just stops rising and the round luck keeps on dropping to 39.2% now.

I'm new to this kind of payment scheme, can anyone shed light on why this is so?

right, which is why i'm pretty much done with catch up games at this point and will just speculate in upcoming mining companies which seem to give better ROIs if you time it right...  i think cloud services, leasing miners are the future...and IPOs are going to be that next big thing now that China is catching up... just to give you a rough picture of how trading securities has become popular... take a look at the volume below... Smiley

how are you going to invest in those IPOs overseas?

112  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: August 26, 2013, 01:19:32 AM
if i use 20130821, what other settings do i need to write down?

currently the firmware is 20120703 and the settings are --avalon-temp 52 --avalon-freq 350-355

I see some people setting cut off temps, etc

anyone??
113  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: anyone with fluid dynamics background? need some help with waterblock design on: August 25, 2013, 05:28:16 PM
does it matter if fins in the waterblock that faces the water are flat surface or round surface?
114  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: anyone with fluid dynamics background? need some help with waterblock design on: August 25, 2013, 08:26:04 AM
are there any issues with design a waterblock such that the rubber gasket/seal is above the edge of the asic chip?

the black area is part of the seal/gasket

red squares are the chips.

as u can see, the seal/gasket is "overlapping" the corners of the chips. will it cause problems?
115  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: avalon stopping for hours and not restarting on: August 25, 2013, 07:41:17 AM
maybe you deep fried the circuit? have you monitored the voltage and temp before and after changing the clock settings?

temps were the same. i mean same range

no idea where to get the voltages from the openwrt page...

which firmware is better?

20130821?
118  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: August 25, 2013, 06:55:46 AM

Im running with 31k piggyback and that gives me 1.336v under load at the bottom chip.

Be aware that for me at 460mhz I am 2x the wattage as a stock Avalon!   At bare MINIMUM you need a 1200watt powersupply for a 4 module unit!

I need to find out how to deal with 1600watt total at 460mhz!!!

i need to move to the north pole or pluto for that
119  Local / Other languages/locations / Re: Singapore on: August 25, 2013, 06:51:05 AM
my personal advice to fellow singaporeans is don't bother with mining unless you miraculously got free juice and space but even then difficulty is going to hit 100mil in no time, we're at 65mil now.... personally i had a quicker roi with flipping securities... for example.. https://btct.co/security/LABCOIN

initial share price was 0.001 so if you invested 20btc at current prices your 20 btc would've been about 50-60 btc by now... now imagine those lucky ones who got in with 100btc even at 0.002 which was the price couple of weeks ago.. my projection is labcoin will have some more to go up at least 0.005 once they start their mining operations and besides btcgarden ipo fall out had some liquidity moved into labcoin... but again do your own research and trade with money you can afford to lose... Smiley

these not so popular alt crypto coins like labcoin.. isn't it hard to trade since liquidity can be bad?

for alt currencies i rather play with litecoins.

true lah. investing in coins probably a better bet.

so u use vircurex?
