101  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [OPEN] #KN-R001 3TH/s KnCMiner Neptune - FREE HOSTING FOR FIRST ROUND! on: November 27, 2013, 09:58:54 PM
In for 1, let's see how this goes. :-)

The "Easy purchasing..." link to your store in the first post is broken. The one in the second post works just fine though.

ten grand:  https://www.kncminer.com/products/neptune-first-batch

so I guess plus shipping, ups, power supply, idk what else. all adds up

I get a 404 when I access that page... I don't see the product listed for sale on the site yet either, so I don't know how this got ordered... Did they put it up temporarily and take it down again?

In for two shares, order #904, txid 033abfd0034437c85087e2c0b6141228d1d71f3ac1a7c2ad41fdb66e71b23b9f

Yes, please separate Round orders from one another. For example: if you bought from R17 and R19. 2 shares in R17 would be 1 order, 5 shares in R19 would be a separate 2nd order...

Our backend tools don't separate this and instead lumps all the BTC together, meaning we have to do all these back calculations which can lead to possible errors.

Sincere apologies. I ordered a combined R17/R19 order without first reading this. Hope I haven't caused you too much work.

Boris the latest KNC blog post indicated a delay of several days for parts they needed to get to them, so its going to be another week or two.

But the good news is we can announce yet another performance improvement, All November batch boxes have a new PCB board and our engineers have been working overtime to improve the board as much as possible. We can now announce that the speed will be minimum of 650 GH/s in turbo mode or MORE depending on individual chip performance.

An extra 100Gh/s is pretty cool though

Hey,

Any update? Do you already have R15, when will it start hashing?

According to kncminer, they are supposed to start shipping today. I don't know how far along the queue we are, but hopefully it will ship within the next few days.

I'd like to know how long it took for the last Jupiter to go from shipping to delivery.

If nothing else, I *think* this is, or at least was when we placed our orders, the best price/GH ratio, so if we don't get recoup our costs here, we wouldn't have anywhere.  Not that that's any consolation..

I completely agree. :-) And mining is fun, so I'm happy to do it as a hobby for a small loss.

Although if we were to sell the miner for 50% of the cost when done with it, it makes the (yes, likely very innacurate) predictions more palatable. Break-even could be achieved in under 90 days if we started mining 1 month from now. Assuming same values as before otherwise. But you're right, nobody knows what the difficulty is actually going to do.

Please remember that generally the equipment is resold as well, which does recover some money.

Yes, that's true. I hadn't factored that in.

The most realistic mining calc I can find is the expert-mode one at http://www.coinish.com/calc/ which says that if we were to start hashing today, we'd likely break even in 50 days or so, taking difficulty adjustments of around ~2.8% per day into account.

Unfortunately we're not going to start hashing today, and that's where the problems arise. Adding a delay of 0.3 months into the calc, it puts the break-even at 100 days. Any later than that and it's not going to happen, unless the difficulty increases slow down, which is unlikely.

0.3 months is ~9 days. I'm not sure what the shipping status is of the Jupiters or how long they'll take to get from Sweden to the hosting facility, but I suspect it will be longer. Also, using a pool other than BTC Guild which takes 3% (and has too much hashing power for my taste) might help a little bit, but not much.

I'm bullish on BTC though, so I suspect (hope) we'll make back our dollar investment, just not our BTC one.

Mining is a hobby that _costs_ money at the moment. Hopefully most people on this sub will have done enough research to determine that for themselves.
110  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: GHash.IO and double-spending against BetCoin Dice on: November 13, 2013, 01:31:16 PM
One thing I'm fuzzy on is how having lots of hashing power helps in this attack. As I understand it:

- You send a transaction for x coins and no fee. It will get confirmed /eventually/, but not for a while.
- A dice is rolled before the transaction is confirmed.  (silly gambling site!)
- If you win, you win. You wait for the transaction to be confirmed so everyone agrees what happened.
- If you lose, you send another transaction for the same x coins. (This time /with/ a fee?)
- The transaction is confirmed first as it has a higher fee and therefore more chance of getting into a block. This invalidates the previous transaction, and your subsequent loss to the gambling site.

You don't need to solve a block for this to happen, so what is the benefit of having the hashing power?

Yeah was kind of curious how many are left.

I had figured the cart would have a stock level built in and automatically sell out when done, but I just tried adding 100 shares to my cart and it still let me so I guess not.

Oh well, hope I get some.

Orders 588, 590, 593 (sorry, I had to get BTC from a few sources)

It's still showing as "On Hold", despite 6 confirmations. Is this normal?
113  Economy / Securities / Re: LITECOIN MINING PROJECT - NEW SCRPYT TECHNOLOGY [SCRYPTMINERS] Funding on: November 01, 2013, 11:45:08 PM
Replying with very skeptical interest.

It doesn't look like you're trying to raise anything like enough money to do a decent ASIC run. What are your actual plans? An FPGA conversion? If so, what kind of hashrate are you getting with your current FPGA prototype, as the results will be comparable?

You also don't mention anything about your background or the other people (if any) working on your project. Do you have the background to pull this off?

Wait... I've just re-checked your site and it's now pointing at a holding page. -- Not looking good.

I'm back in albeit slowly, but there's still no sign of my deposit in my account. Am I going to need to open a ticket on this?

I fail to see the point of CloudFlare's Always Online™ technology in this case.  Roll Eyes

I sent some BTC in a while ago (7 confirmations) and even though I can refresh my wallet page, albeit very slowly, I can't get it to show me my new balance. Hope this sorts itself out soon!

I just about had a heart attack thinking it was just me!  It's a relief to see someone having the same problem.

I can't get on the site at all now. :-(

118  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [UK GROUP BUY] ASICMiner USB Block Erupters #3 on: August 09, 2013, 12:07:15 PM
All up and running now. I think the cheapo powered hub I bought couldn't handle the power consumption for all 8 miners - some of the miners kept falling back to a solid green light. No biggie, I've split them across 2 computers for now until I can pick up a better hub - I've ordered a 4A one off Amazon that should hopefully do the job.

Trust left.
