101  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin could bring about smaller governments - and that is a good thing on: August 20, 2013, 03:20:11 PM
You seem to think that you're actually addressing what I've said, about 4 times now. You went off on your own tangent, all 4 times. Complaints about being too lazy to read 2 pages pale into comparison with the plain inability to correctly interpret 4 sentences.

For christ's sake, I asked you what you meant and you responded "small government, genius". I legitimately want to know what your point is. Just tell me.

I wasn't talking about the history of government in Somalia, I was highlighting that "failed state" != "small government", it's not such an imaginative leap to glean that from my original comment. I don't think Somalia got that way because of a relentless pursuit of laissez faire capitalism, do you? That guy seemed to be making that statement, and it was blindingly ignorant.

True, Somalia did not get that way because it had a small government to begin with. However, looking at it now it is one of (if not the most) the worst places on Earth, and coincidentally it has no central government.

North Korea, which has the most powerful government of anywhere (over its people at least) also has a terrible economy.

That user was simply making the point that small governments are not always beneficial. There is more to an economy than the size of the government.

In fact, from the 25+ examples I've made it appears as though size of government is irrelevant, regardless of how you measure it.

How old are you?  How will repay the loan?

I am 22 and I have nearly 0.2 in my account I have 2 accounts on in inputs.io and one in blockchain and as i am saying doing work on posts and also doing some other work mean captcha typing

I also have the same promotional ad in my sig (is that what you mean by "doing work on posts"), but I would not be able to pay back a loan with that alone, although it seems like you are good at getting your post count up.

Also, I'd like to see your actual addresses. While I believe that you have .2 on your account, it does not help me feel secure in this loan unless I know how much you have regularly. Also, .2 is far away from .7 . How will you earn .7 from that promo ad and captchas?
104  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: today bitcoin price is $120 in mtgox, are u going to buy it or sell it!!! on: August 20, 2013, 03:05:22 PM
Mt Gox is dying, it doesn't matter. i will hold my BTC.
i dont want see gox died...even it not so good for existing...if it die... it will affect the whole bitcoin chain...not good...

Gox's death would be good for bitcoins, I think. They're far overpriced on Gox. BTC-e, Bitstamp, and others stay a good 15-20 below Gox, yet for some reason people look it's price when determining the value of bitcoins.

Even VirWoX is cheaper than Gox now.

I have an unused $50 itunes gift card I can use as collateral.  I'm not sure how I would prove its unused though, maybe a picture of the unscratched code?

You could always sell that code in the marketplace. I'm pretty sure you can easily get at least the $30 you need.

You can also use cardpool which will give you a high percentage of what it's worth in cash (more if you get an amazon gift card).

Also, you can check the balance of an Itunes gift card by calling 1-888-320-3301 or going under "your account".

http://store.apple.com/us/help/gifting

The code on the giftcard isn't even scratched off so the balance is full.

So then you're mailing it? I thought that you'd just PM the code+pin to the lender. That seems easier. The lender can just check the balance online. However, I'd reccomend just selling it. That way you get more money and you won't lose any from having to pay interest.
106  Economy / Lending / Re: want 0.5 BTC for 3 weeks on: August 20, 2013, 02:54:52 PM
Interesting. Could the account have been bought or hacked?

Maybe hacked... it looks like two users are using it at the same time.

Strange.

Edit:  My guess is that two friends are using it to get their post count up so they get paid more for the signature... just a guess!

I suppose so. It's just odd that one speaks English fluently and the other can barely speak it coherently. Friendship knows no borders I guess.

Maybe they are siblings and this one is younger and hasn't learned their secondary language (English) yet...

I dunno, this person has PM'd me asking for help with understanding sports bets lately.  Seems like a geniunely good person, but without a plan to repay I am leery on loaning to them as they might be a child with no way to make the money back.

I don't think they're an outright scammer. They've spent a good amount of time posting legitimate posts, which is further than what's necessary to scam people.

I do agree that there needs to be some proof that repayment will happen. That's why I want the address to check its transactions.

Dear Friends of Community I want 0.5 btc for 20 days and give back 0.7 if any one interested can send me pm waiting its emergency and just fair policy no documents no proof if you still on please send me pm waiting and at the end

DO GOOD AND HAVE GOOD Smiley Smiley

I may be willing to do this loan if you explain why there's multiple people on your account, explain what you'll use it for, and give me the payment address so I can see your transaction history. If you have any collateral that would be great too, or any evidence of deals you've made that have gone through.

Addresses don't have balances. They are single-use destinations to send coins to, which point at a wallet. While it's technically possible to send to the same address more than once, doing so violates the design of Bitcoin and is problematic from at least a privacy and security standpoint - even if you don't care whether you're anonymous or not. It also provide zero performance/storage benefits: Bitcoin won't notice both transactions were sent to the same address (the system itself has no concept of addresses!). Hopefully the new payment protocol in 0.9 and HD wallets will help eliminate the usability benefits of address reuse.

I don't understand. If I print out a paper wallet, why can't I send to that address more than once?
Privacy reasons.

I understand why you wouldn't want to use an address more than once, but what stops me from sending to an address more than once?
112  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Edward Snowden BTC ADDRESS 1snowqQP5VmZgU47i5AWwz9fsgHQg94Fa on: August 20, 2013, 02:06:48 PM

About punk rock - it was a joke, yes, but in general I was not sarcastic - I think if those crazy attention whores played in Sheikh Zayed Mosque, dissing local leaders, they would be mutilated and beheaded, if not by the government, then by local people. Or imagine them in the Washington Nation Cathedral, DC, singing "Obama is a commie and sucks big jew dong" or something like that. Or even Better is some Texas protestant Church. I'd say those gals got off pretty easily. Earning money in process, I must add.

Russia has plenty of independent news sources, lots of criticism of current ruling party and leaders. That first wikipedia link you gave - it mentions multiple improvements over years, public trust growing in general, some protection laws offered to journalists and so on. For years Russia has been viewed upon as a big scary bear, while in fact it is the same as all the other governments in the world more or less. I believe CIA can take any less prominent journalist in for a talk, to zap his balls with electrodes, and later acquire a backhand court order.

In the freedom of the press USA has pretty interesting figures. UK is slightly better. Cameras and taps everywhere, taking away journalists belongings as a "security measure".

General rule - you may speak and write about anything you want in a civilized country. As long as you stay away from big corruptions, hidden money, anything what makes your local government officials involved interested enough in snuffing out your life. Be that in Russia, Britain, France or USA or whatever.

Local government officials will not "snuff out your life" in the US, France, or UK. In Russia they will. How often do you hear about journalists being killed in the UK, US, or France? Rarely if ever. Russia is known as one of the most dangerous places on the planet for journalists.

A country that declares war on gays and has laws against "blasphemy" is nowhere near free. That sounds exactly like the Soviet Union.

Also, have you been to Russia? I haven't been there but I have family who used to live there (both in the USSR and Federation) and they said that it was more or less the same when the USSR "collapsed".

I couldn't care less. Anyone who reads my feedback will see that the two negative feedbacks are bullshit.

115  Economy / Economics / Re: Daily Transaction Volume is Nearing Record - What gives? on: August 20, 2013, 01:44:46 PM
Yes, but not productive ones.  In fact, gambling is a net economic loser.

Productive part of society? No. Productive part of the economy? Yes. What is the difference between selling oranges, weed, or poker chips? Economically, nothing. Each is a good being bought and sold.

No it's not.  Moving money without production activity (resources extracted, refined, goods improved, services provided in a more efficient way so others can things *they're* better at, etc).  This is why BitCoin may be better than fiat.  But it's not why roulette is as good as farming fruit.

Gambling is just moving money from people who are bad at math to those who have a high school education and/or have resources to be a casino.

A gambling site does all of that. The "resources" bought are the domain and all of the people that work on it. The "refining" process is turning a blank page into a functional website. The improved service is pretty obvious; every gambling site will try to work the best.

You're right, farming fruit is more necessary than roulette. But this isn't the medeival times, so not everyone has to be a farmer. There is room for luxuries.

As for your last statement, congratulations, you've described 99% of all products on Earth. There are very few things that we actually need.
116  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Assault weapon bans on: August 19, 2013, 08:01:03 PM
So it takes 3 months to get your license. 3 months and you can have a military grade automatic weapon. I'd say that's pretty easy.

The license is prohibitively expensive to the point of infringing on my rights. The weapon itself will be extremely expensive thanks to the laws surrounding it. You say pretty easy, I say the cost is ridiculous. That is, if you are interested in the legal route. Common criminals have a much easier time.

A common criminal is not getting an automatic weapon. Unless of course he walks down to the store to get it.

Perhaps common was the wrong word. I don't mean the average criminal, but I do mean that the criminal requires no special abilities to acquire one. He simply purchases an illegally modified firearm from any other thug he happens to be in contact with.

That is not how it works. You're talking about incredibly serious criminals, not the majority of criminals. Those criminals will just as easily buy an rpg or a grenade; I guess we should legalize those because why bother if they'll just get it anyways.

Why make it easier for them?

I never said a "majority". My point is that it is incredibly easy for a criminal to get a fully automatic weapon, even with the various bans in place. I don't think RPGs or grenades are manufactured to the extent of semi-automatic firearms, so I don't think you can say "just as easily".

"the criminal" implies the stereotypical, average criminal, however I never said you meant the majority. You didn't clarify that you meant a very small percentage of criminals before.

And actually, the RPG is one of the most common weapons on Earth. Grenades are produced even more abundantly. This is pretty obvious, when you think about it, since grenades are one-use only and RPGs need to be replaced more often as they take more stress than a normal weapon.

http://listverse.com/2012/10/02/top-10-most-popular-firearms/

If a criminal has enough connections to get a fully automatic weapon, they will be able to get a grenade or RPG just as easily.

Gambling and drugs are a "real" part of any economy.

Yes, but not productive ones.  In fact, gambling is a net economic loser.

Productive part of society? No. Productive part of the economy? Yes. What is the difference between selling oranges, weed, or poker chips? Economically, nothing. Each is a good being bought and sold.
