101  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: New: Bitmains S9 Hydro 18TH ! on: August 28, 2018, 03:35:42 PM
They did the same thing to me when I tried to make a thread about another variant of the S9. Someone's OCD is a little overbearing...

Anyway keep in mind that the miner is 1728W @ 25C and the fan/radiator uses another 32W @ 25C.

So that's 1760W at 25C. Cost is $780 for the miner, $129 for fan/radiator, and $92 for PSU. That's $1001.00 plus shipping.

So you folks that are excited about this for home mining, do the math.
102  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain's Released Antminer S9, World's First 16nm Miner Ready to Order on: August 23, 2018, 06:09:28 PM

is it common for bitmain to release china-only products? relatively new to this

any chance this would be available in NA?

Yes, they do that occasionally. They had a GPU miner (G1 I think) that was only ever available in China.

We'll have to wait and see. I'd like to get a couple of those S9 Hydro. If they're as quiet as the C1 was it would be perfect for heating during the winter.

I cannot read Chinese and most of the specs are in picture format so Google translate is of limited use, but I do see 45DBA mentioned. Now weather that is the miner fan, radiator fan, pumps, etc who knows. However is the entire setup only puts out 45DBA this would resurrect home mining where people have affordable electricity.
103  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: PSU Arching on: August 23, 2018, 06:05:14 PM
Ok, I was going to have the company run an order for me today on a couple server psu's. Thinking though I might wait for the APW7 (1800w) to post again? Or are their psu's other recommend? I'll probably freshen up on philipma's posts here shortly.

My Bitmain PSUs run great with my Bitmain gear. I know they are maligned, but I'd run everything from the same company. Sounds like you need one Bitmain PSU and one Canaan PSU.
104  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: PSU Arching on: August 23, 2018, 02:36:21 PM
Hi,

In the last couple weeks I've had two 1600T2 evga psu's arch on me, melting plugs on the psu side. One on a Canaan and one on a s9. I'm wondering what conditions contribute to this that I can control? I did some google searching but nothing really yielded much outside of replace the psu asap. Just hoping to control what I can to keep down time to a minimum.

They are running on 110V right? Have you measured wattage, temp, and amperage?

I am curious if anyone knows what the minimum temperature should be during the winter to keep S9 miners working well?  Is 40F too low?  I ran two last winter at 50F and they seemed to run ok...

That'll be fine, I've run mine around that temp and a bit cooler in the winter no problem.

What electricity rate are you basing your very inaccurate and misleading statement off of?

Interesting, I've never had any alerts get flagged as spam when I was in other pools. And my GPU rig alerts come through as well.

But, you are right, something like Awesomeminer is much better, for many reasons.

I saw the new housing. It looks like it won't be cooled with 1 fan anymore. This may just be the miner to end all other miners all the way til the next halving

This is VERY encouraging!
110  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 17.2TH/s, 1570W Innosilicon announces the most powerful and efficient BTC Miner on: August 07, 2018, 09:32:43 PM
The problem is that even if you mine at subzero temperatures and the miner itself runs cool not needing high fanspeed, the PSU that's built into these still runs its fans flat out and they're those horrible little 40mm fans. Nothing can quieten that part down no matter how low speed you run the miner.

Yes, I know my M3s PSUs were awful. It'd be interesting to find a way to compare just PSU DB over a range of temps and wattage.

Thanks as I said in another post I aint the best at searches even on this forum I get a lot of "not found" notices. Looked at your links and will keep searching. Day two and so far the wife hasn't killed me yet, hehehe. Cheesy

Give her time Smiley

112  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 4in Shrouds vs 6in Shrouds what makes a miner cooler? on: August 07, 2018, 04:02:16 PM
@userghost, good bad, whatever it'd be good if you could post your results for others.

Also I've PM'd you with no response, can you go ahead and ship me back the ducts?

Is there any way to cut the noise/heat of a T2T? Thanks for any help. Looked the internet but not much found.

This forum has a pretty good search tool, also I just scrolled through a couple of this section's pages and found these

Those metal rack adapters are nice, would they support the miners if they were mounted horizontally?
115  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 17.2TH/s, 1570W Innosilicon announces the most powerful and efficient BTC Miner on: August 07, 2018, 03:22:54 PM
Is there any way to make these, T2T, less noisy? I've turned mine right down to efficency setting and still it is running very loud. Update the firmware as well but I think the wife might murder me if I can't make it quieter.

Noise and heat, it's what makes an ASIC miner an ASIC miner Smiley

There's quite a few guides and posts on how to quiet an ASIC down, but be careful, a lot of them will make it run very hot.

I gotta say I do hope we keep the main com channels limited to just here and Discord. Already getting information fragmentation with some technical/operations points being bought up in Discord that has never been mentioned here and most likely won't be. ceste' la'vie

I agree, I like the Discord channel, but it is quite a bit easier to pop on here for a quick scan of announcements, issues, etc.
117  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 851 on its way. on: August 03, 2018, 03:33:03 PM
That is not just a Canaan issue. The s9's also increase power consumption as temps rise. The Bitmain & Sorcerer PSU's and probably most others drop efficiency as well.

100% truth! During these 100-112 days we had here in Texas my 2 S9s and 1 S9i used up to 4700 watts total when room temp was 108-109 F. Usage would drop down to around 43-4500 in the evenings as it cooled down. All 3 PSUs were APW3+++.

Also meant to say my Whatsminer M3's would use up to 2400 watts each in high temps!

That's cool and scary at the same time Smiley I wish it had daily, weekly, monthly, etc breakdowns though. Anyway, pretty nice.

Oh it's hot, but I'm OK with that this will just solo mine so no revenue anyway unless I hit a block Smiley

So I've looked in the marketplace and eBay, without a whole lot of luck. I have an old S7 that I want to just stick in the corner and let it solo mine since I cannot sell it. Do any Kano folks have an APW3++ PSU for a reasonable cost?
