105  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / New film "Bitcoin: Buenos Aires" worldwide distribution built on Bitcoin on: September 12, 2014, 04:40:37 PM
First off, THANKS to everyone that contributed, retweeted, liked, subscribed, and helped push our crowdfunding campaign across the finish line. We had such a diverse group of people from across the globe get involved, some giving as little as $0.50 and some giving as much as $1000!

You did your part, now here's mine…

"Bitcoin: Buenos Aires" is partnering with Meetup.com groups from around the world to arrange special private screenings for local bitcoin Meetups. We have 21 Meetups and counting! The first batch of screenings will start on Monday:

9/15 Bitcoin Budapest
9/16 Nashville Bitcoin
9/17 Bitcoin Decentral Toronto
9/18 Bitcoin Vancouver

with additional commitments from: Edinburgh, Zürich, Amsterdam, New York, Austin, South Florida, Washington DC, Seattle, Denver, St. Louis, Houston, Perth, Portland, Auckland, Tampa, Milwaukee, and Raleigh. If you want to arrange a screening for your Meetup.com group get in touch through my Meetup profile.

Next Friday, September 19th, we will be offering the film to everyone! Here's how you can see it:

1) Download it directly from TheProtocol.TV - Pay with Bitcoin - $2.00
2) Download it directly from TheProtocol.TV or Vimeo - Pay with PayPal/credit/debit - $3.00
3) Watch it with advertisements on YouTube - FREE
4) And…here we go… Download it with Bittorrent and pay what you want -- Listen, someone would have torrented the film anyway. So, for those who are going to get the movie this way, please tip to the public address embedded in the file. At the very least, please subscribe to our YouTube channel and/or follow us on Twitter.

** A SPECIAL NOTE TO CONTRIBUTORS **

This is all new territory for us. As such, we didn't really work out this distribution plan until well after the crowdfunding campaign was under way. So, to realign the rewards to your contribution level…everyone is getting upgraded! So that means, if you put in for a Twitter "thanks" then you will still get that AND we're adding the next level which is a digital download. If you put in for the digital download then you will get that AND the special edition DVD. And so on. It's going to take us a little while to reconcile all the contributions, names, and final credits so that is why the film will not be released to the general public until next Friday. Thank you for your patience.

What an amazing ride! I have learned so much in the process and I can't wait to get working on our next film. Until then join our newsletter to keep up with everything that is happening with TheProtocol.TV. The next series of video interviews includes Andreas Antonopoulos, former Director of the U.S. Mint Edmund Moy, Dave Babbitt of SWARM, and Adam Draper of Boost.vc

Our new beta website will launch during Inside Bitcoins: Las Vegas. If you happen to be in attendance, stop by the panel I'm on: "Tales from the Crypto: Bitcoin Inspired Art" and say hello.

Cheers! -v.

111  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Take my Gridseed Blade and Orb! on: August 23, 2014, 03:50:16 AM
I've got two different problems with these miners:

1) Blade - The blinking lights don't turn on anymore and it's not recognized by the mining software. If power is plugged in, the fan still goes. But, otherwise, nothing.

2) Orb - The little USB connector came off. I tried to re-solder it but my skills are rusty as hell and I just made it worse.

My thinking is that the actual Gridseed chips are still fine on both machines. It's just that for me to have someone repair them would cost more than they're worth. I'll give them away to whoever wants to arrange for shipping from Los Angeles, California.

Unfortunately, an information vacuum is easily filled with negativity. And, let's face it, there's not much being down to provide a "fair-and-balanced" view of bitcoin.

That's why I took it upon myself to make "Bitcoin: Buenos Aires"…real people using this technology to solve real problems. Help us spread the word!

The only way to combat "bad" media is to overpower it with "good" media. Unfortunately, there isn't a lot of "good" media being produced by the picture makers of the world. That's why I took it upon myself to make "Bitcoin: Buenos Aires" to show how this technology can be used to solve real problems. Help us spread the word!

115  Bitcoin / Project Development / The coolest bitcoin movie is right here, now! on: August 18, 2014, 04:17:03 PM
Watch the first two minutes of the film here.

Hey everybody! I'm a filmmaker that lives and works in Los Angeles. I am also a bitcoiner. Recently I was in Buenos Aires and decided to make a short documentary about the impact of bitcoin there. The film, "Bitcoin: Buenos Aires" just premiered at the Cryptolina Bitcoin Expo in Raleigh, North Carolina. The crowd really liked it and, although I may be biased, I think it's pretty awesome!

Before I went down the road of making this movie I thought very hard about how to finance its creation. Do I try Kickstarter, find angel investors, issue a digital token? In the end, I decided to shoot first, ask questions later.

So, to help partially fund this film (that I've already personally paid to make) I am taking a page from Vitalik Buterin. Before he created Bitcoin Magazine, Vitalik was one of the first people to write about bitcoin. In the early days what he would do is write an article, then only release a small part of it. Next, he would accept bitcoin donations until he reached a target. Upon reaching that goal, the entire article would be published. I figure if that model is good enough for one of the creators of Ethereum, then it should be good enough for us.

Join our "Proof-of-Production" crowdfunding campaign on (Crowd)Tilt.

We decided to use Tilt as our host platform because, even though they don't have bitcoin directly integrated yet, they actively encourage its use while still accepting traditional payment methods.

The campaign will feature a host of rewards based on contribution level. Want to be credited as Executive Producer on the film? Go for it! Once we reach our goal, then the film will be released shortly thereafter!

I can't wait to share this film. And, maybe even more importantly, I can't wait to make more! Whether we reach our crowdfunding goal or not, the film will be released when the campaign expires. We're just looking for a way to make the process market driven and economically viable. Hopefully this works!

Thanks for the encouragement! I happened to be in Buenos Aires after spending some time in Brasil for the World Cup. For two days, I met a lot of people at the heart of the Bitcoin community in Argentina. The video you see is part of a much larger piece that is currently being edited. But, considering the recent release of Copay by BitPay, I felt it was important to share immediately. Visit http://www.BitcoinMediaProject.com and https://twitter.com/bitcoinmp to keep up with our progress.

Manuel Aráoz, Bitcoin Core developer, was instrumental in developing the newly released "Copay" (http://blog.bitpay.com/2014/07/09/copay-beta-an-open-source-multisig-wallet.html) multi-signature wallet from BitPay. In Buenos Aires, Argentina, Manuel expands on the importance of multi-sig technology and Bitcoin security. Filmed July 3, 2014.
