101  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What is the best overclocking tool? (windows) on: June 02, 2011, 08:23:35 PM
MSI Afterburner can if you edit the config file.
102  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Is this going to work? 6870 + 5830 + Corsair 550W on: June 02, 2011, 07:48:57 PM
Should work just using the VGA cable.
I have a monitor that's not even turned on plugged into my other 5830 triggering it to work in windows.
103  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: 4 Card motherboard on: June 02, 2011, 07:24:15 PM
Or you know, if you can recommend a board you're currently using in this manner?
104  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Is this going to work? 6870 + 5830 + Corsair 550W on: June 02, 2011, 07:21:51 PM
I just want to point out the TDP != Power Consumption
Never assume that.
Always look up reviews on a processor or graphics card and check the power consumption section.
105  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Is this going to work? 6870 + 5830 + Corsair 550W on: June 02, 2011, 07:05:18 PM
Possibly, but if you overclock you might load it down to the point of a hard lockup.
106  Bitcoin / Mining / 4 Card motherboard on: June 02, 2011, 07:00:17 PM
What's the cheapest motherboard than I can mine with 4 cards on?
Including via PCI-E 1X slots

I want a board that is known to work this way, because some boards have issues using both 1x and 16x slots simultaneously.
107  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: entering a new phase in mining : constrained capacity. This is good news. on: June 02, 2011, 06:24:01 PM
ebay's still good dude
I saw a 5870 on there for like $150 the other day
108  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: My current minning card in personal pc specs on: June 02, 2011, 05:27:23 PM
Great OC
Did you have to up the voltage?
You should be able to turn the memory lower.
109  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What assumptions are people using to justify adding mining rigs? on: June 02, 2011, 05:21:45 PM
Your calculation only takes in account the current spot price, just as calculations a month ago were made assuming $4 or lower spot price, and 3 months ago a fraction of that.

I don't deny the profitability is volatile at best if you are starting out just now. I just don't see a likely scenario where the price will suddenly start plummeting or simply stagnating at $9-$10 when mining becomes harder & more users become aware of bitcoin every day.

Not been into economics long, eh?

I've seen more bubbles burst than a kid chewing bubble gum.
110  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: What assumptions are people using to justify adding mining rigs? on: June 02, 2011, 05:18:39 PM
Nope, you're right on.
The only thing people are using to justify investing large amounts of money into this...
Is Bitcoin price speculation.

Ok, seriously, this 6 hour round is BS.

What the hell's going on?

"cheapest" parts?
5830 all the way bro
If you want it expandable in the future, make sure your motherboard has the slots for it, and that you get a PSU that can handle it.
113  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Best PSU to buy? on: June 02, 2011, 04:06:31 PM
Can a PSU straddle more than one machine?  Say you have two boxes with 4 cards each.  Could you stick a 600-700 on each mobo and then set up a third PSU to feed some of the cards off of each mobo?

Yep, that's possible.
There's actually supplemental PSU's they sell made just to juice graphics cards and processors.
Some even fit in a 5.25" drive bay.
114  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Does More Accepted/Hour = More Blocks Found? on: June 02, 2011, 04:03:16 PM
It would, but regardless of which pool you're in, local or external, your cards are only solving shares of 1 difficulty each.
That's what the "accepted" is.
It might be better to mine locally just due to the fact you don't have to connect to an external pool.
(External pools can crash/go down)
So it's an extra point of failure.
If you're mining by yourself and your own connection goes down, well, that would have affected you regardless, but if you connect to an external pool, and they go down, you won't be mining either.

You're probably best mining on your own due to that fact.
You should solve a block every week or two with the Gh/s you're pulling, unless you have bad luck.
115  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Third card doesn't work on: June 02, 2011, 03:22:42 PM
It's probably a hardware level transistor that switches it off.
If it's software level, a modified BIOS might do the trick, but if it's board specific... Probably a hardware level transistor switch and you're SOL.
116  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Does More Accepted/Hour = More Blocks Found? on: June 02, 2011, 03:13:58 PM
It's a lottery no matter how you look at it.
Pools suffer from variance.
To get a serious look at the values you'd need to run for about a week solo, and about a week in a pool.
Then compare the median values, and deviations.
Averages don't get you anywhere when variance, pool hopping, and just plain rotten luck exists.
117  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Disappearing solo miners on: June 01, 2011, 06:01:42 AM
If a pool grows over 50% we should DDoS the shit out of it.
It's basically our only weapon...

That's against the spirit of Bitcoin.

Bitcoin is a capitalist market.
He who holds the most riches has the best chance at profit.
He who has the most power has the best chance at profit.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817256071

This PSU will do just fine, and only costs about $10 more than the Diablotek one.

Also, the Silverstone's warranty is 5 year, vs Diablotek's 3 year.
Your entire rig is worthless if your power supply blows out, so I'd go with a better brand than Diablotek.
119  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Yet Another Beginner Rig Thread on: May 31, 2011, 10:37:56 PM
That hard drive sale, just ended recently.
My bad.

Case wise, I recommend the Apex Vortex 3620
It's only about $45 with shipping, but it's just as good as an Antec Three Hundred, if not better.

Trust me when I say, you do NOT want that Diablotek PSU.
Those things are pieces of junk.
120  Bitcoin / Mining / Multiple Workers Question on: May 31, 2011, 05:30:35 PM
So, let's say I have an account with a mining pool.

I have three computers, and four graphics cards.

Is there any advantage to me, to have a separate worker for each card?
Because if I point them all to the same worker, I get the same total hash speed.
It won't make me mine any faster, right?
Separate workers are just for organization, right?
