People use Sempron 140's in 4 card mining rigs.
I doubt it's bottlenecking you.

I have two rigs running caseless.
One has a Biostar AMD 770 ATX motherboard (got it on sale for $45, came with a free 120Gb HDD)
The other rig has a Foxconn 790GX ATX motherboard (got it on sale for $45, free shipping)
The Biostar board doesn't have an onboard power switch to turn the unit on...
So I have to short the on/off jumpers on the motherboard with something metal for it to turn on.
At this point I've turned that mobo on, via a key, a penny, pliers, scissors, a knife, pretty much any nearby metal object.
Works perfectly fine though.
I made a makeshift case for this board out of a shoebox.
It's currently hashing using a single 5830 and a Xigmatek 400w PSU(The Xigmatek PSU is practically silent, I am very surprised at it's awesome build quality, 80+ Bronze and a lifetime warranty.).
The Foxconn board actually has a power button built onto the board.
So I can turn it on/off directly on the board.
It's running two 5830's, powered by a 750w Antec Earthwatts PSU.
I have it laid out flat across the box that it came in.

Hello, I'm totally new to BitCoins, but figured I should start mining during the nights at my university. I have 40 computers with NVIDIA Quadro FX 4800 at my hands. Is that a good graphic card to mine with? Which software would you recommend me to use? All the computers have Windows 7 on them, and I have no admin access, so I can't install anything on them. It would be neat with some application that could be stored on a USB-stick. I've tried bitcoinplus.com, but I have a feeling it isn't optimal. Thanks in advance, and sorry if my questions are nooby.  Nvidia cards are notorious for being garbage at mining. So it would really suck. At best, you'd pull about as much as someone with a single 6990. You'd be using about 40x as much power, and you'd also probably get royally screwed. |

I had a rig mining for Deepbit a few days ago, and the Bitcoin.exe program showed that it generated .223741 BTC?
How the heck did that happen?
I know 100% the GPU was mining for Deepbit, since the only file on that computer I have for starting poclbm is set to Deepbit.

errr its working again, but my miner is down 55 hash on speed.... maintenance done that? I havnt changed my miner one bit and it was running at 440 for a few days now
Miner speed is an estimate over 15 minutes, same as always. Since the pool was down, give it time to average out. It'll always have variance (a 420 MH/sec miner can easily swing between 320 and 520 for example). I really need to just remove the column since it's just a measure of your miner's luck. All pools show it and it is an interesting stat. It does surprise me that people don't seem to understand the difference between the hashing rate reported by their miners and the hashing rate reported by the pool. Having said that, please don't remove it  Maybe at some point, an explanation of what it really means and how it is calculated and why it varies can be added to the site somewhere, or if it can be made terse enough, perhaps over the rate themselves as tooltips.
The reason is the pool estimates your hash rate based on the amount of shares over a given time. Your miner doesn't report the current hashrate to the pool, that would use up too much bandwidth, as the hashrate is constantly changing. |

Someone needs to come up with a server script that, when multiple connections are incoming...
The first connection is answered in X time.
The next connection within Y seconds from the first connection is answered in X + (Y-1) seconds.
So if there's an instant connect attempt, the next one will take at least Y seconds to be answered/accepted.
In instances of a DDOS attempt of multiple logins, this would help mitigate the issue greatly.

Good Point MiningBuddy, as we have already seen some major BTC losses because of .dat file mismanagement. BTW what happens to all those coins that are in lost/idle wallets... Does the network "release" them back sometime in the future? There is no doubt that 100's of thousands of coins will be lost due to mistakes and noobs...
They are actually just lost forever. You see, there's no way to differentiate over the network, lost bitcoins, versus bitcoins that are just being stored. |

I would personally buy enough mining rigs to pull 10 Gh/s And invest the rest in BTC directly. 10 seems to be a very solid number recently.  |

Pool will be going down for approximately 1 minute to get the new pushpool deployed. The long rounds have shown the weaknesses in the current DB scheme when it comes to providing real-time statistics. This new update is addressing that issue, which may have been the culprit for some miner idle errors earlier during our 2.8m round.
