I think the dev has inaccurately described the retarget period. Here's the actual code: static const int64 nTargetTimespan = 6 * 8 * 60; // Gaelcoin: 2 days static const int64 nTargetSpacing = 2 * 60; // Gaelcoin: 2 minutes
Although the OP (and the code comment) claim 2 days, the code itself actually dictates a retarget every 6*8*60 seconds = 48 minutes on average, or every 24 blocks. That may help to explain how the difficulty adjusted upwards so quickly after the initial post. You are right ! And they should have informed me of that as well..

Premined and Instamined ?
Who announces a coin after mining has started ?
Good Luck with your coin
SELL SELL SELL
Mining started for a short period for testing as we wanted to make sure the wallets are functioning properly including testing a pool as i've witnessed many altcoins releasing buggy and non functional coins based on the 0.6 bitcoin frame work. However the difficulty is still very reasonable and any coins that where pre-mined during the testing period will be given back to those who help make this Ireland's first successful coin.

Premine 1% 1 % pre-mined
with 2 min block time = 180.555556 days of premining Wow. lol. What a sneaky launch. [/quote] 1% of total was taken on first block similar to auroracoin. Difficulty is climbing high due to many miners connecting.

Gaelcoin Ireland's first Cryptocurrency About GaelcoinWhen was Gaelcoin created ?Gaelcoin development started in early 2014 to provide an alternative electronic currency for Ireland. How is Gaelcoin different to, for example, Spaincoin or Greececoin?First of all, we only pre-mined 1% of the Gaelcoins leaving the remaining 99% of Gaelcoins available to be mined. This gives the ownership of the Gaelcoin currency to the early adopters and the miners and not the developers. Many other currencies pre-mine 50% of the total avaiable coins which creates an enourmous risk as the the majority of the currency will remain in the hands of a few developers. Secondly, Gaelcoin is not an easy coin to mine. Compared to 99% of all the other cryptocurrencies that have been launched, Gaelcoin has a much higher mining difficulty. This is to create a more stable Crypto-currency as many “pump & dump” miners looking to make a quick buck would stay away from mining the coin. What is pre-mining?Pre-mining is a process of awarding the initial miners a bonus, which can then be used for further development of the currency. Gaelcoin is 1% pre-mined, which is a very small percentage compared to many of the other alternative currencies out there The first 100.000? There are a lot more people living in Ireland...Correct, many of the other crytocurrencies go for the 50% pre-mine approach with the promise that they will give an amount of their currency free to each citizen of the country they are mining for. However, we strongly believe that this approach will create a highly unstable currency as the majority of the currency will always stay in the hands of a select few people. It is impossible and impractical to give each and every citizen their share of the 50% pre-mined coins leaving a large number of coins unclaimed. This large amount can then be used to heavily influence the market price of the currency by the currency developers leading to market crashes or artificial inflation.Resident of Ireland?
