101  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: ★★★★ Selling member accounts for newbies ★★★★ new price!!!! on: December 25, 2013, 09:37:35 PM
One account sold and 50% price cut now 0.025BTC

Are you really charging 15-20 bucks for making a few forum posts?

I registered yesterday evening and most of my posting restrictions are already gone.

This is the biggest scam I have seen in almost a week.

A friend of mine has a sizable mining operation - he earns close to a BTC a day but he's REALLY into Litecoin...given *coin's current price he prefers to "store" anything he generates in cold hard cash. He does okay.

I would have to say as long as you have the means to start mining effectively, you should... although I have made many hundreds just by wheeling and dealing day to day.

103  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: So you're newbie, have you already bought BTC or are you waiting for a drop? on: December 25, 2013, 03:09:51 PM
Looks like its still going down to me.

Well what im willing to pay doesnt matter does it?

What is with people saying it's going down?

Going by Coinbase's prices, it has been hovering around $650 with remarkable consistency for the last week.

More to the point of the original post:

I have bought and will continue to buy BTC for the next few weeks at least. I expect big things in 2014.
104  Bitcoin / Press / [Week of 12-18-13 to 12-25-13] WWE Superstar Kane on BTC on: December 25, 2013, 02:58:20 PM
When I was a kid, my favorite wrassler was a masked 7-foot, 330 pound monster named Kane.

Turns out Kane's real name is Glenn Jacobs, and he's a very thoughtful, very intelligent guy. He is also very aware of Bitcoin.

He has started publishing articles/giving interviews about Bitcoin among other libertarian-type stuff... I am amazed someone whose job it was to smash other men with steel chairs is so articulate.
105  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: If anyone can create an altcoin, isn't it the same as printing money? on: December 25, 2013, 02:37:35 PM
Interesting theory, but not "anyone" can create an altcoin.

Even with a model to work with, could you imagine how much time and how many resources an average programmer would need to make it work? He'd need people working under him, the money to pay them assuming they aren't doing it pro-bono, as well as the wherewithal to conduct what they do/how they do it/when they do it.

The TL;DR version:

No. There are millions of people using Bitcoin/altcoins and only 10 or so brands are at all relevant - 9 of them being periods at the end of the sentence that is Bitcoin.

(That wouldn't be grammatically valid but you know what I mean.)
106  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: We might get lucky? on: December 25, 2013, 01:27:22 AM
I guess we all are here because we think we might get rich. We believe that the "crypto/online" currency innovation that bitcoin (and all the altcoins) is can be successful. I'm curious if one of you is thinking otherwise. Please share your thoughts.

My time lurking here tells me that almost anyone who has a negative opinion of crypto is full of "FUD". The overwhelming majority of users here are in it for the long-term. Their faith gives value to this currency.

Why someone who doesn't believe in its viability would spend time here is beyond me, but hey...

Other than BTC you mean?

I'd say Litecoin, given it is the most popular. In theory it should be nearer 1/4th the value of BTC as time goes on, so it has plenty of room for growth. Although it is basically a carbon-copy of BTC so its value is going to be tied to big brother, proportionately. Let's hope it's a good year for both.

Another interesting get for speculators is Dogecoin. If the joke doesn't get old, someone could put in a relatively low amount of FIAT and see it grow 2-3 times in a very short period. I wouldn't gamble with house money on that one though.

Just wanted to introduce myself -

I'm relatively new to the whole Bitcoin thing, but have been lurking here several weeks and have found the intelligence of this community as a whole to be enlightening. Thought it might be fun to participate myself.

I will start by saying that in technical terms, I am everything you hate.

  • I got into BTC during the November rise and started day-trading.
  • I use Coinbase.
  • I invest in BTC almost purely as a speculator and am waiting to become one of the new "wealthy elite" by selling them off.
  • I am bearish.

That being said, as a web developer and programmer I am fascinated by the mechanisms behind BTC and the community that has adopted its use - and I am in it for the long haul. I have about 5 BTC I intend to keep long-term, and would never be opposed to hearing you wise early-adopters out on something BTC-related.

So ...

Sup?
